2-0 out of 5 stars Uneven Song Selection
The only reason I bought this soundtrack was for the version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," sung by Rufus Wainwright. I couldn't find that version on another CD. Didn't care for the rest of the songs on this CD that much.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Ok
It's an Ok cd I'd Rather watch the movie than listen to the soundtrack some of the songs R either too slow and old or the fast songs need action or something . I got the cd 4 smashmouth's songs really .

4-0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Cool Soundtack. SHREK ROCKS
Shrek is, like, one of my "Top 10" movies. Er, that list is in my mind. The soundtrack is equally good. Some of the songs were in the movie, some were'nt. But, whatever.

I bought this CD for a specific song that I love, but I think all the songs are excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really great c.d.
This c.d. is awesome, but remember to buy it new, not used because the proceeds are donated to the national breast cancer foundation!! The music on this c.d. is so worth paying full price!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD!!
One Tree Hill has the best music because it's all so different. I love finding new bands from them too. The last song is my favorite (For Blue Skies) and Strays Don't Sleep has a new AWESOME CD that I just downloaded on iTunes...check it out!! ... Read more

Emotionally over-the-top pop extravaganzas like the string-swelling "Tonight Tonight," the Metallica-influenced alternative rock of "Zero," the techno via new wave of "1979"--the 28 songs on this swell two-disc album are as eclectic as their themes are epic and ambitious. Billy Corgan's thin whine isn't much of an instrument, but he makes the most of it by writing smart songs that take emotional chances that more-typical alt rockers would deem uncool. Pessimistic and feeling trapped but still wanting to believe in love, in a future, in something--this is the sound of Gen X at the millennium, with all the self-indulgence and power that would suggest. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Wall of the 90's.....Yes!
I at first didn't care for the album that much and only listened to the songs which had videos playing on MTV. Later I decided to put the album on and just let it play through while I cleaned my room...it was then that I saw this album for what it is...a complete masterpiece!
1-0 out of 5 stars Sadness Leads to Godliness Leads to Emptyness
I had been a Smashing Pumpkins fan for 10 years. I formerlly collected every CD that ever existed. I've met James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlain, and even Billy Corgan.

I don't know, why it has taken me this long to write a review for this album.I purschased this album in 1995 when it first came out. After my first listen, I was impressed, but I did not truly apriciate this album, until I listented to it several times all the way through. This is truly a masterpeice of an album. It has every emotion on this album.Yes I love Siamese Dream and Gish, but this album is the best and I understand why Billy went a differnt direction after this album, because how do you top a masterpiece.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Love" Songs
I have loved this cd for many years and while I do not listen to it very often it is one of my favorites. It is the greatest cd to "get it on" to that I have ever heard.Try it and you will agree

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I recently discovered Portishead's music and I am absolutely amazed!Beth Gibbons voice is almost heavenly in nature and the production throughout "Dummy" perfectly compliments her soothing vocals. While not a CD to listen to on a bright, sunny day, "Dummy" is one of my favorite CD's at the moment and it sets a wonderfully dark mood. This is trip - hop at its best!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a trip.
It looks like it's all been said about this album by now. Few would argue that "Dummy" is the essential Portishead disc, and possibly the epitome of the genre. Smooth, creepy, sexy, and hypnotic. It definitely sets a mood. The production and beats are a perfect match to Beth's vocals. If there was a hit here it would be "Sour Times", but the entire disc holds up to that track, and some are much better I think. This album seems to have no equal, and if it did I suppose it would be Massive Attack's "Mezzanine". Just opinion of course. If you suspect you might like this, you won't. You'll love it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I enjoy each song
I got this cd when it first came out.I liked it back then but not as much as I do now.I love every song on this cd.Each song is very acoustic and each note is written in a way that lets you feel each song.I listen to this all the time and I now know all the words. The cd is at such a low price now and is such a great cd that anyone who likes blues/acoustic stuff should get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars <3
I started likeing John Mayer when "Room For Squares" came out and have not stoped! I think with his age though his music is getting worst, or maybe i'm just loseing interest. To me he started going down hill with TRY! Maybe because I dont really like live cds, or because his style has changed abit, but oh well it does not make this album bad! SO BUY IT!! The hole cd is amazeing all the way threw!! From start to finish! CHECK IT OUT! You will deffantly be happy. Esp. because of the last 5 acoustic tracks! One being Neon! Its amazeing!
5-0 out of 5 stars I love it
John Mayer originally put out this CD himself before he became famous. It is NOT a full CD-only has 8 tracks.Four of them are on Room For Squares. What makes this CD worth 5 stars is the fact that it is John Mayer on an acoustic guitar without any editing or altering. It is his wonderful, humbling voice in its natural form.If you think you like an artist, you have to hear their natural voice; you will either love it or be disappointed.I love it.Editing takes away from an artist's individuality. If the artist is talented (John is), this is bad.If the artist is bad, then editing will probably help them sell CDS.You can hear the difference between "My Stupid Mouth" on this CD and Room for Squares.Buy this CD if you are a JM fan. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars NOT THE BEST CRANBERRIES
I bought this best-of cd wanting to hear a band I liked and saw a few times back in college. The problem is, Amazon doesn't let you know that the songs are the "singles" versions that were shortened for radio. "Promises" is hacked down to practically nothing. I'd recommend just buying their original cd's as opposed to this.

5-0 out of 5 stars the shins are mindblowing
The thing that stands out most in this exceptional album are the lyrical depths that this band manages to reach. Before Radiohead became the biggest critics' darling since Pavement or Dr. Dre, they were just another pre-Oasis British band with some loose indie ties, trying to gain some cred. Loopy enough to name this moody, often battering debut album for a Jerky Boys routine, they were also a lot more interesting when they hadn't yet learned the word "soundscape." "Creep," the miserably majestic single they now claim nearly ruined them, may not even be the best thing here; try "Anyone Can Play Guitar," an epitaph for River Phoenix before the fact. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Before The Nerdiness
I'll concede that OK Computer and The Bends were their peak performances, but this is still a good album from their "we-still-play-musical-instruments" stage of their career. After OK Computer they somehow morfed into this pseudo-intellectual computer generized cluster, that somehow became trendy for critics on both sides of teh pond to slurp. Pablo Honey isn't gonna win any awards, but at least it showed signs of traditional songwriting and musical talent, and not a bad soundtrack to a Nintendo game or a bad rip-off of Moby. Lets face it, nobody actually likes that stuff by Radiohead, but it feels pretty cool to say that you do, doesn't it?

4-0 out of 5 stars It grows on you.
Now before any of you give the below reviewer an un-helpful vote, read his profile, as he states that his reviews are jokes. Anyway, this was Radiohead's beginning. Thom and co. were from a city no one really heard about, but they were determined to make it in the music business. Keep in mind that Pablo Honey was made when grunge was still popular. Radiohead tried to make a record influenced by grunge without ripping off greats like Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and... Nirvana... who weren't all that great (and if I hear a Nirvana fan bash this...).
4-0 out of 5 stars Radiohead's Only Good Album!
People, get over yourselves. "OK Computer", "The Bends", and "Kid A" were all horrible and boring as hell albums. Few can deny that besides idiots. Here, they started off as a really good Brit Pop-Rock band with Grunge influences. If the band stayed this way, all their albums would be good and maybe they would ACTUALLY progress instead of making crappy boring electro indie alt whatever "music". Most of the songs on here are great, but I rated it a star less since I'm a bit tired of their only true rock radio hit "Creep". (I'm SERIOUS on that one, are you so called true Radiohead fans (even though I'm not lol w/e) getting this?) Still a decent song and better than any other crap they've done though. All in all, this is the only album by them you should EVER hear.

It’s likely that a decade after its debut record this band now has fans who might ask, "You mean Dave Grohl was in a band before the Foo Fighters?" But they, or any Foo followers who pine for the increasingly refined vocals and polished pop-punk uniformity of the first four albums, will swallow this one whole--or at least half. For as much as vocalist/bandleader Grohl and Co. mix a similar concoction on the 20-song double CD, they manage to agitate the formula ever so slightly. Disc one follows the Foo’s classic sonic blueprint: lip-smacking melodies and enigmatic lyrics, double-barrel guitars and drums that attack. But songs take a gentle turn on the second CD, showcasing Grohl’s underrated vocals amidst a high-energy ensemble of acoustic guitars, piano and mandolin (by studio guest John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin). Singing, not shouting, Grohl flips potential teen-rock anthems like "Miracle" and "Cold Day in the Sun" (with drummer Taylor Hawkins handling lead vocals) into impending adult-oriented radio staples and, 11 years after Nirvana, the Foo Fighters may finally have their triumph. 5-0 out of 5 stars What a CD
I recently bought this cd and after having it for a few weeks it just seems to get better and better. The second cd is much mellower than the first, but the songs are well written and just seem to grow on you. It is one of the best cds I've ever bought. You won't be disappointed.
3-0 out of 5 stars A heavily flawed masterpiece in need of more focus.
I remember my first kiss, where I was when Princess Di died, and the first time I heard the song that changed my life. I was sat in the car waiting for my big brother to give me a lift to my friends house, so I switched on the radio. Lucky enough to catch the end of `Everlong' by Foo Fighters. I'd lived and breathed rock music for a good few years before that moment, hell, I was even at this point in a band. But somehow I'd managed to completely miss the story so far, of Dave Grohl and the ever changing line up of the fighters of Foo. I made my big bro buy me the album for my birthday. Pretty soon I was an obsessive fan. It was often an in joke between me and friends as to just how obsessed I was. Awaiting every album with Swiss quartz precision. It became a military manoeuvre to get a new release before every human possible. (Now due to downloading this has become impossible.) but when I heard that the Foo Fighters were planning a double album- Yes- a double album, my heart skipped.
5-0 out of 5 stars Searching for the roots!
Nowadays, Foo Fighters occupies a high status in the reduced scope of rock bands with innovative proposals. Their sound has turned more solid, with major emphasis in the discursive lines, and with the presence of a granitic expression where the riffs and beats ride together without free obstreperous, but in search of the wise balance between lyrics and the atmosphere of the heavy rock.

Like G. Love, Citizen Cope is a musical mixologist, fusing sluggish hip-hop beats with mellow piano melodies and new-school blues with easy-listening pop. On his debut album, Cope--née Clarence Greenwood, former DJ for the rap group Basehead--sounds at times like both a younger, drawling Sting and a folksy Wyclef Jean as he sings over slow, loose, loungy instrumentals. Though his music is a patchwork of breezy styles, Cope's lyrics tackle some serious subjects. "Contact" confronts the hypocrisy of police profiling, while "200,000 (in Counterfeit 50 Dollar Bills)" details the work of a shifty middle-aged hustler. Cope tells stories about crazy women ("Mistaken ID") and lost souls with short fuses ("Appetite (for Lightin' Dynamite)"), and even fantasizes about the musician's fight with the stay pure ("Salvation"), tucking a gritty street realism between the rosy rhythms dancing through these 13 songs. I enjoy pop music as much as the next person. And I enjoy many music styles (From Eminem and Big pun to My chemical romance and Foo fighters.)I heard "Son's gonna rise" in a pontiac commercial and it stuck in my head til it got to the point where I had to find out who sang that song.So after some searching I found out his name and I was happy with the results. He is a change of pace from other acts and whatever "type" of music he makes it sounds good and he has lyrical content behind the the catchy beats and easy, "marbles in the mouth" delivery.

THIS GUY MAKES ME HAPPY. I PUT IN THIS CD, OR HIS SECOND DISK, AND ITS INSTABLISS. I LOVE EVERY SONG, EVERY PAINFULLY TRUTHFULL LYRIC, AND EVERY BEAUTIFUL MOMENT THIS MAN CREATES ON THIS ALBUM. NEVER SINCE MY FIRST TIME HEARING BLACK SAILS HAVE I CONNECTED TO AN ARTIST AND FELT SO MUCH OF A CD I EXPECTED SO LITTLE FROM. TRUTH BE TOLD, I BOUGHT THIS CD BECAUSE HE LOOKED LIKE A SAMURAI ON THE COVER, BUT BELIEVE ME, THIS GUYS WAY SHARPER AND DEADLY THAN EVEN UMA HERSELF!

When I heard "Sideways" on Santana's "Shaman" CD, I was immediately mesmerized by Greenwood's subtle genius. I picked up a copy of "Cope" and was ecstatic to hear a fresh voice in music - not the same old 'top ten' that commercial radio dishes out. I told everyone who would listen to it to buy it. It is important to purchase the music of new artists, otherwise record companies think no one is interested in their music and won't promote, encourage, or support future recordings. Greenwood is an incredible artist that everyone should hear. His music is poetry. It is visceral and palpable - not to be ignored or dismissed. ... Read more

Let's face it. Once in awhile, life hands us something that makes us want to say "ewww".That happened to me last night about 2:30 in the morning after listening to the debut album Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! from cute boy band Hellogoodbye.
2-0 out of 5 stars Fluffy Pretentiousness
HelloGoodbye has a sound that's really in vogue right now. The problem is they forgot that no amount of 'being hip' can replace 'tired cliche writing'. In many regards - most of the songs on the album could have been sung by a female pop group in the 90s and it would have sounded perfectly in place (especially Touchdown Turnaround (Don't Give Up On Me) which is borderline annoying).
4-0 out of 5 stars Hellogoodbye scores with Debut CD
Hellogoodbye has recently become one of my favorite new bands. They have a unique emo sound , with a touch of techno . The best tracks on their Debut " Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!", in my opinion are their first single " Here (in your arms)", " Baby , It's Fact" , " Touchdown Turnaround (don't give up on me) " , and " All of your love" . Their lyrics are just plain catchy , and their songs vary throughout the album . Some are loud , and some are soft love songs . Out of all the songs on the album , I can totally see Touchdown Turnaround as their next single . It's a great song , with really fun lyrics . If your a fan of Bright Eyes , you'll like this band . For some reason , they remind me of them in some songs . It's a fun CD that can be played over and over again. ... Read more

Though the Wilco leader teams with the Jayhawks' Gary Louris on a pair of nimble pop songs--the elegantly strummed "Listen Joe" and Kinks cover "Strangers"--it's Louris who's clearly at the head of the class with self-assured vocals ("Another Fine Day," "Think About Yourself"), lush harmonies ("Long Time Ago") and those unmistakable guitar leads ("Frying Pan Eyes"). Soul Asylum guitarist Dan Murphy's obligatory rocker "Hurricane" is a high point, as is the album's lead track "You Make It Easy," which has Kraig Johnson warbling over a thumping piano lead and chunky fuzz guitar. But most welcome among the 15 songs are two contributions from Louris's fellow Jayhawk Marc Perlman: the refreshing "Corvette" and "Cure for This," a '60s-speckled pop song sung by Muni Loco, the wife of producer Paco Loco and the first female to grace a recording by Golden Smog. 1-0 out of 5 stars This one goes to the used CD store...
I had such high hopes for this one! However, after about a dozen tries, I cannot stand this music. It is uninteresting and possibly contains the worst songwriting and lyrics I have heard in years.Or maybe it's the schmultzy music that is so unbelievably weak.Whatever it is, it has no magic, no risk, no intelligence.

3-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointed
Maybe a few more listens will help, but this album reminds me in a lot of ways of Bubble Gum music from the late 60's.Way too cute. After eight years I expected a lot more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Subjectively speaking, a great disk. Period.
Okay, these user reviews are plagued by a high degree of subjectivity, though what is objective about music? Plainly speaking, after listening to AFD for four weeks now, I believe this disc is quite exceptional both in its variety, the quality of songwriting, and overall production. This was my first exposure to Golden Smog, but since I have explored (that is, purchased) "Weird Tales." I just don't have the same feeling toward that disc as I do for AFD. For the record, I am not overly enamored with Wilco's recorded output, and had no previous exposure to the Jayhawks. Another Fine Day, then, needs no antecedents to make a salient musical impression. I am not given to hyperbole, but can best sum up my feeling about AFD this way: I have already downloaded it in its entirety from ITMS, but am now ordering two physical discs from Amazon--one for my 24-year old son, and one just for posterity. ... try enya , or sarah brightman, yes they may be overated, but they are also THE BEST PERIOD..i hate to say it but emiliana needs to go back to iceland...try celine dion, dolores from the cranberries, italian singer laura paussini, eroz rammazotti, now thats creme!!!!!!!!! notEMILIANA TORRINI from iceland!!! in my opinion, she doesnt hit a single note, humm thats so sad..whats up with tuna fish????the only way i like my tuna is in a sandwich...not in a song.....lol

5-0 out of 5 stars Emiliana's Best So Far...
This is an amazing piece of work: haunting, memorable, captivating. It was in my CD for weeks last summer, couldn't take it out.I can't say the same for Fisherman's Wife though - if you're into acoustics, it will be right up your alley. It's definitely not in the same vein as LitToS.Try Daugher Darling or Baxter if you are looking for similar 'moods'.

4-0 out of 5 stars Iceland Rocks!
Love In The Time Of Science is an interesting mix of Emiliana Torrini's haunting voice and lyricism and Roland Orzabal's synth loving producing.I've heard Torrini compared to fellow Icelandic chanteuse, Bjork.Their voices sometimes do sound alike, but there the comparison ends.Where Bjork likes a heavy disco beat, Torrini prefers a jazzier, more ethereal sound and unexpected chord changes. Her cool, understated style is nicely complemented here by Orzabal's synthesizers.

Biting, sometimes base satire and humor populates this 21-cut comedy-rock debut from actor-musician Jack Black and his band, Tenacious D. Sort of like a trashier, more casual and less musical Beck, vocalist-guitarist Black and guitarist-vocalist Kyle Gass, with help from Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, Redd Kross's Steve McDonald, and Page McConnell of Phish, deliver oddball musings that will appeal mostly to fans of the talented Black, whose earned a following thanks to memorable, frenetic turns in the films Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Mix of Songs
I really liked this as a full album. The songs all fit really well together, but they all had very different musical influences to them from old timey to funky.I love a good beat and all the songs had that. The lyrics were also inventive and fun.It is really the type of record that you can get into and listen to over and over again.I highly recommend it for rock lovers and people who like to listen to music that makes them bop around in the house, car, or on the street with their ipod.Give it a try and have a little fun!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Instrumentals, but too Simple Songwriting
"The White Stripes" is a band that has some perfected examples of instrumental composition. Yet, the band's minimalist lyrics make them a little too basic when they begin to concentrate on them; and through that they then begin to loosen their sly, diverse, and devilish charm that they have propelled exceptionally onto the listener, otherwise.
5-0 out of 5 stars If you think the songs, Jack wrote em all wrong, well ya just don't belong man.If you like it but try to resist, do the twist!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh............

3-0 out of 5 stars And now for something completely... uh... different?
Suffice it to say that the debut from Under The Influence of Giants is easily a hodge-podge of styles.Generally, I think such a mixture can yield some very interesting results. In this case, I'd say the results are interesting, but not for the reasons you might think.
5-0 out of 5 stars FUTURE CLASSIC INDEED!!!
Honestly, I thought I reviewed this album already, but I guess I didn't...well, here we go again!!!I agree with the reviewer that this debut rekkid by UTIOG will, in 10+ years, be viewed as a future classic, and right now, I think it's an easy contender for my top 10 of 2006...possibly best DEBUT album of this year, no doubt!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome
I discovered this album purely by chance. I went to buy Scissors Sisters's cd, and the guy in the store introduced me to this cd. As soon as I heard Mama's Room, I was hooked. Actually now I love this CD much more than the Scissor's cd. Great album. It's hard to lable them, it has bit of everything. You have to listen to it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I used to listen to this on CASSETTE, yo
Has it really been 12 years since this came out? I remember buying this and wanting more, and I waited forever for "recovering the satelites' to come out. The band has since released four studio efforts (plus a live and a best of), and this remains their highlight. I said in my review of Smashing Pumpkins' "Mellon Collie" that either that or this may be my fav cd of all time, so I'll mention it again. I mean, this is the album that got me off of that mainstream country (or should I say, rock-a-billy) mumbo-jumbo. So many memories that come from this disc, but I'll save them and stick to the review:
5-0 out of 5 stars The Original and the Best
I received this album as a gift 12 years ago, I snickered at it when I opened it.I had heard Mr. Jones so many times my first reaction was to shatter the disc.I found it surprising that after a couple of listens this album really started to resonate with me.12 years later this remains one of my all time favorite albums. The Counting Crows albums released since this debut lack the melancholy tone that made this album stand out.I wonder if there will ever be a Counting Crows album as good as this.Deep inside of me there is a solemn hope that they will eventually try to stop writing big hit songs like Mr. Jones and will release another heartfelt album with more subdued tracks like Anna Begins and Raining in Baltimore.

3-0 out of 5 stars 3 POINT 5
"Time and Time Again" is a really good song.
