3-0 out of 5 stars Can't sleep in the "Bedroom"
When a band has oddly-monikered members like "J" and "Achilles," you know it must be worth looking at. New York-based The Fever burst onto the scene with the delicious trash'n'glam rock EP"Pink on Pink." Now the weirdly-named band members follow up with an solid debut LP, "Red Bedroom," full of the sort of music you'd hear in a robot-themed club. It's plenty of fun, if not much more.
5-0 out of 5 stars Red Bedroom = Red Rum
If Billy Idol and Nicky Sixx beat up the rest of the Beach Boys, kidnapped Brian Wilson and took him to every dirty bar in Mexico before locking him in a studio for three days with nothing but old porno mags, Red Bedroom is the album he'd make. The Fever is music's answer to television's Three's Company.Jasper is a like a vocal Jack Tripper. He knocks and kicks over each song with John Ritter's chaotic-grace while Pony's baselines bounce more than Suzanne Somers returning from a jazzercise class.Sanchez's guitar is sexier than when Terri played the naughty nurse and J's organ play is sleazier than one of Larry's come-ons.Achilles keeps the whole gang together and grounded better than a one of Janet's orchestrated group hugs and hits harder than Mr. Furley's karate chops. The Fever is crazed antics and limitless madness and Red Bedroom is like a reckless night at the Regal Beagle. If you've ever tried to wash a regrettable night out of your soul with a shower and some mouth wash, only to find yourself reveling about it a week later and returning to the scene of the crime, The Fever is your band and Red Bedroom is your soundtrack. 4-0 out of 5 stars Nice...Pretty Varied
The Fever's a pretty decent band, they always remind me of '80s rock, but that's just me. I like this CD because the song types vary. "Dream Machine" is sort of slow and creepy, "Scorpio" is like a slighty techno song, and "Gray Ghost" sounds nearly ska in a few parts. It's a very nice mix of different styles of songs. It's certainly worth buying. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Play it LOUD!
I first saw Boss Martians live at a festival 2-3 years ago, and they totally blew the other bands away!Great power/pop/punk attitude.Think Cheap Trick on steroids with some Elvis Costello/Replacements/Paybacks in the mix.Great songwriting and Evan Foster is a SHREDDER on guitar.Top to Bottom this is slightly more solid than their previous effort, "Making the Rounds", but I'd give Making the Rounds a slight nod as the best songs are stronger. All in all a GREAT band that's flying just slightly under the radar thought probably not for long.I hear they're in the studio putting together a new album now (Feb 06).

3-0 out of 5 stars LOUD, man--LOUD!!!
Comparisons with Cheap Trick are very apt;I doubt I've heard a previous band THIS loud who were also so REFINED-- and MELODIC.So what's Rick Nielsen done good in the last 15 years???Move over-- Evan Foster's here now!!5-0 out of 5 stars Best "Unknown" Band I've Found
Words cannot describe how fantastic this CD is.I first heard these guys at 2 in the morning on our local classic rock station, and I've been hooked ever since.People say the Strokes and White Stripes are 'saving rock and roll', and while that may be true (I'm a fan of them as well), the Boss Martians just have such a pure sound that's impossible to dislike. If you are even the most casual fan of the classic rock sound, you have to get this album.I think the other review says it best, these songs WILL cheer you up on a rainy day. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Illuminator
This one through me for a loop when I first heard it;
5-0 out of 5 stars Revolutionary!
Weird War has always been an important band. They have also done records as Scene Creamers. A few of them were in the band The Makeup. They have explored soul and funk in the past. Weird War has always been more of a psychedelic funk band with political leanings. Lead singer Ian Svenonius was recently stopped by the FBI and asked about his plans to assassinate the president of the USA. Fashionista bass player Michelle Mae has always been a sidekick. The guitar playing of Alex Minoff has evolved over the years. On this album he is basically soloing the whole time. He refuses to play any bar chords and simple noted. On "Mental Poisoning" he is bending notes for four minutes. This sound is sheer Hendrix (see Electric Ladyland). The songs are brilliant as always. "Illuminated" and "Girls Like That" are catchy and memorable. I guess they have a regular drummer now. Sebastian Thomson used to be in Trans Am. This album seems to be inspired by the groovy sounds of 1970s. Weird War brought in some folky sounds too. They seem like they can do anything and it would be interesting. Even though Weird War have been one of those bands who have preached that a revolution starts on the dancefloor, the United States has become a worse place in their four years of existence. Hopefully their live shows this year will save this land? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Evil tastes pretty good
Wow, this makes it convenient to be a rabid 'suckers collector.I have most of these on those "rare, fan-club only, 7' colored vinyl" versions, but as DK would say, "Give me Convenience, or Give me Death."I love the glow-in-the-dark vinyl I picked up of this release, and I can't recommend it enough for anyone who hasn't heard Jerry Reed, the Commodores, and, yes, Outkast covered by the mighty Supersuckers.A great trip exploring the vast inspirations that motivate Eddie Spaghetti and Co.Please buy this and encourage the Supersuckers to dig further in their vaults and produce a "Devil's Food 2."

5-0 out of 5 stars DEVILS FOOD!!!!!!! If you dont dig this, theres something wrong with you
Usually im a bit sceptical of comps which are a collection of 'b-sides & rareties' because it often becomes apparent exactly why these tracks were left off albums....
5-0 out of 5 stars They totally rock!

4-0 out of 5 stars Best of "New Favorite Band"
Let it be said that when "Your New Favorite Band" was first released, it was far too early for the Hives to have a "best of" album -- they only had EPs and two albums in the bag. But it is a good sampler of their best songs, and a good introduction to their rough, raw brand of garage punk.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost better than Get Born
This is really a great album, I suppose the reason not many people know about it is because they considered it some kind of could-only-be-ordered-five-track-deal that wasn't worth it.Actually, I found this album at Best Buy for $15 only it didn't have the Japanese writing on the side.Anyway, this album is eight tracks and three music videos of pure Jet punk rock. The live versions of "Are You Going to be My Girl" and "Cold Hard B****" are almost better than the originals and "Sgt. Major" is one of the best songs Jet ever wrote and one of my favorite songs of all time. The other tracks like "You Don't Look the Same" and "Bruises" are a bit slower but still classics, none the less.Jet's version of "Back Door Santa" is also "da bomb."Their three music videos just add to the excellence of the disc.I'm not sure if this album can still be found at Best Buy, but if you really like Jet, then you would probably like this album. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Sweeden's Sweetest Treat - Hard Rock Candy
Sweeden's Hellacopters are nothing new. They've been on the scene now for 10+ years. This release is only a continuation of their long tapestry of slash-and-burn rock albums that prooves once again that this un-American group knows more about American R & R history than most American R & R bands.

4-0 out of 5 stars like nothing else!!
a buddy of mine burned me about five thousand cd's lately, so it's taking me a while to get around to listening to all of them, but i could not have popped this album on too soon. you know the fantastic feeling you get when you buy something having no idea what it's going to sound like, and then you unwrap it, stick it in the cd player, and something comes out of the speaker that is 100% original and delightful? that singular phenomenon that always makes your day? coz that's what you're gonna get if you buy this album. PS if you like this you should check out knoxville girls. this strikes me as having a similar kind of mood.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Joyous Outburst of Daydream with a Misleading Title
A friend once showed up at my house with a stack of records from such artists as The Oblivians, Thee Milkshakes, The Black Hands, Regina Spektar, Richard Hell & The Voidoids, Gene Vincent, and Beck. I reviewed these obscure sounds with delight and came across the Deadly Snakes. The name sounded like a death-metal band which turned me off, but he cued up "200 Nautical Miles" and I was enchanted. I listened to such joyous tracks as "Gore Veil," "Bird In The Hand is Worthless," "By Morning, It's Gone," and "Oh Lord, My Heart."I strongly recomend this record to anyone like myself who hears people listening to modern music and becomes violently ill. I would take Phil Ochs over Fallout Boy at any time, but, alas, this is not the case in everyone. But I digress, Parcella is a stupendous breath of fresh air.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This is one of the most anticipated records of the year. There is a lot of small talk about how happening Canada is. I think you have to start with The Deadly Snakes. They have been playing together for almost ten years. They are known as the best Canadian rock and roll band in the world. They opened for The Hives on most of their American tour in 2004. Why doesn't more people know about this band? They are nothing like Arcade Fire or Broken Social Scene. They are more like The Stones and The Heartbreakers. You listen to a little of this, it is a revolution. It's reminds one of things like Tom Waits and Nick Cave. It is truly psychedelic music. It transports one to another day and age. Songs like "Sissy Blues" and "Gore Veil" cause one to dream. There is some R&B and gospel moments. It reminds me of some of the latest Hives record. The Deadly Snakes have created an unpretentious, fabulous, and very listenable record, that makes me happy about the current state of music. This is the true Canada!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Band Ever!!!
This CD rocks!A must have for anyone with any taste in music! If you like real rock, check this out!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
I haven't been a Hellacopters fan for that long, I really never was into rock and roll bands for the most part. I was, and still am, a huge fan of Entombed, and was disappointed when Nicke Andersson left the band. His impact on them was huge, and you could tell something was missing on later albums,(though still a great band). More recently I found myself wanting something more out of my music, instead of the more extreme metal I usually listen to. Enter

5-0 out of 5 stars Roots Blues Electric...what spawned rock and roll.
Great album, pure and simple. The Porch Ghouls get down to the nitty gritty roots of Delta Blues. This is what originally made rock and roll back when it was rock and roll. It's great to hear something again that has grit, soul, heart, and passion. This is not for the faint at heart. This is the real enchilada!

3-0 out of 5 stars Bluff City Ruckus
Pretty damn good for a first album. Its a kind of Gomez goes Beefheart kind of thing, with some Nashville undertones...5-0 out of 5 stars One of the better CD's I've purchased
As I once heard David Letterman say - this is a "tear up the place and go home with the waitress" kind of band. This is bare bones gutsy blues turned up about 15 notches.I first saw this band as they opened for Aerosmith/KISS in December 2003.Before the first song was over, I was completely blown away. This is like nothing I've heard before. It reminds me of Jimi Hendrix Blues, but it's got more punch.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Raw and "Legal"
The Hives are one of the hottest bands around today, mingling Stooges-type punk with acid-penned songwriting. "Barely Legal" is a faster, punkier, nastier, harder album that came before their breakout album "Veni Vidi Vicious." It's immensely good, but it does suffer from an overabundance of soundalike songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars F'ing Amazing
i bought this cd because i downloaded a few songs by Mudhoney and liked em. This was the only Mudhoney cd in the store, i was kind of disappointed since i was after thier first self titled album but i bought it anyway in disgust. 5-0 out of 5 stars Mindblowingly Rockin'
The sticker on the album says that this album rocks by some reviewer and he was right. I was hesitant about giving this CD five stars, because those are common reviews on this site, but this CD deserves it. Mudhoney is one of those bands that I have every CD of out of respect for how much I like some of their CDs. I always loved their early CDs, but their latter CDs left a bit to be desired and most of them failed to match their intensity. This CD makes up for that.Read more

I liked first two albums more, but this one is very close ..

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Say 'Roots Rock'
Hailing from the darkest back rooms and dirtiest saloons south of Eight-Mile Road in Detroit,The Gories single handedly capture the basest values of rock music.Predicted by Lester Bangs, The Gories existed forbut a fleeting moment, yet left an indelible mark an all that followed. This CD, their final assult on the recording establishment, contains someof their greatest recorded moments."He's Doin' It" is aboutDan's freaky cat, who 'danced' to whatever was on the stereo."Omologato" is Mick's paeon to his favorite type of car and hisrendering ('rendering'-think of a glue factory) of "There But For TheGrace Of God I Go" is the best version of a disco song never played onthe radio. All in all, this album is a stomper from start to finish.Anddon't call them 'Roots Rock' (or 'Damaged Blues' for that matter) becausethey transend any pigeon-holes a labeling could ever try to stuff them in. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Challenging prog filtered into spatial tension
This album's challenging: the first half-dozen times, I could not get into it, despite a love of recent Krautrock-inspired bands (Kinski, some Black Mountain, perhaps Acid Mothers Temple at times). This band in their earlier years has been described as liberal arts majors who pretended they were early 70s-metal. Now I guess they're more prog. Parts of this, such as the soaring opening "The Eiger," cascade memorably. Others, like the oddly Blue-Nile sounding "High Life," stumble. I have grown to like this album more, but it is very much the sound of intellectuals studying their 70s influences, rather than the fresh if naive efforts of those who take their forebears more seriously. It is not easy to love, however, but a bit chilly and detached. Still, if you like the newer space rock-meets-imitation prog done by former 90s post-grad alternative musicians seeking more ground to replow, this is a sensible purchase, and it should spark curiosity among any crowd you entertain.

4-0 out of 5 stars Oneida - The Wedding
This is basically a fantastic record marred by really half-assed singing. You guys sound out of breath - get in shape!
4-0 out of 5 stars Widely varied experimental rock
This is the kind of album that's hardest to describe -- it doesn't really fit cleanly into any available genre or comparison.Oneida experiments with a lot of different sounds, but doesn't go overboard and doesn't do 'weird-for-the-sake-of-weird' like some experimental rockers do.Some of their songs such as 'Run Through My Hair' and 'Lavender' are distinctly Velvet Underground influenced, some sound more like electronica, and one sounds like AC/DC.Every style they attempt -- they pull off.But the whole product seems somehow unsatisfying and unmemorable. It seems as if they started with the idea of exploring the range of their sonic palette, and ended up throwing in anything they could find that they thought sounded good. And it does sound good, but the closest it has to standout songs are 'Run Through My Hair' and 'Did I Die', the forementioned AC/DC-esque song.None of the songs particularly stand out, and the album lacks the unity and completeness it would need to really be a 'great' album.

This is the first album I've bought by the Turks and it won't be the last. These guys sound as though the only albums they've ever heard are Raw Power by the Stooges, Never Mind the Bollocks and the Dead Boys first album and man its great. They rock in an offhand, distorted FU kind of way.Punk meets garage in an infected pus dripping loud wound of an album.Great drumming, slamming distorted guitars and snotty but melodic vocals.Hell yes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A true CLASSIC
I hate to say that they actually have a BEST disc because they are all UNREAL...but if I had to choose...this would be the one I would want the world to hear.Toe-tapping, head-bopping, booty-shakin' rock and roll.Simple and to the point. This is the real northwest rock.Garage rock at it's BEST!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Go go go go!
I bought this CD when it first came out in 1993 and have played it probably a hundred times, but I'm still not sick of it yet. I've seen probably 30 or so of this band's live shows and this CD captures the fun that is Girl Trouble onstage! They sound like maybe a cross between theSonics, The Cramps, The Ramones, and a little bit of 60's Elvis thrown in.The cover they do of a little know Elvis song, "Put the Blame OnMe" is one of the highlights of the CD. Some of their best all-timesongs are on here, such as "House of Stone" and "StormWarning." When they play these songs live, I dance so hard Ipractically get whiplash, and they are just as kick-*ss on the CD. Doyourself a big favor and pick this one up, especially if you've seen thisband live-- you won't regret it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Detroit: Where The Weak Are Killed And Eaten...
Musical accompaniment on a recent jaunt straight up I-75 to the wilds of northern Michigan was provided courtesy of the "Shrek 2" soundtrack (Pete Yorn covering the Buzzcocks' "Ever Fallen In Love"? - I think I feel sick.) and my wife's Norah Jones and Dave Matthews Band CD's (ditto). As if that wasn't enough to send a mere mortal to be fitted for a straight white vest, there was also the news that New York Dolls bassist Arthur "Killer" Kane, recently revitalized and sounding better than ever during a series of reunion shows, had died from leukemia, the revelation that Roger Daltrey was embracing the corporate dollar by appearing on an infomercial pushing Time-Life's latest 70's classic rock collection, and the happenstance discovery of Alice Cooper's mug on a can of Miller Genuine Draft at a gas station convenience store.I'm not sure what upset me more - the fact that Miller and "Rolling Stone" are using the 50th anniversary of rock and roll to push their respective products or the irony of Cooper being a dedicated Budweiser man back in the '70s, drinking a case of the suds every day.
5-0 out of 5 stars Follow up albumn is as solid as the first
I stumbled on these guys as an opening act in Seattle by accident. What a great stumble! EVERY track is tight and rocks. No pop b.s., no filler. Straight rock. I have played this sucker over and over and never grow tired of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ride the highway, baybeh!!
I didn't think a band could follow up a 5 star release with what could possibly be...YET ANOTHER 5 STAR RELEASE?I don't know how they managed to do it,but The New Bomb Turks manage to follow upDestroy-Oh-Boy with another amazing album.Information Highway Revisited is exponentially more complex than their first outing, but somehow doesn't lose that punk brutality and honesty. Its not often that a band can compose two albums with not one bad song to be had,but the Turks serve up distorted perfection on both counts with enough gumption to fuel three bands for three albums.I have but one thing to say.....BUY IT,BUY IT NOW!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This rocks!
The New Bomb Turks along with a few other bands pioneered a major change in the sub-pop scene in the early to mid 90's--a new wave of 70's style garage rock. The sound has only just surfaced recently in the mainstream with bands like Jet and the Hives who owe homage to the Turks like the Turks owe it to Led Zepplin and Aerosmith.
5-0 out of 5 stars Oh Yeah!
O.K. folks, this be the rock'n'roll album of the century! The Turks got me into buyin' music again after a self imposed exile from rock'n'roll caused by grunge in the early 90's ( this "new" garage revival is gettin' me down too by the way!)I simply can't describe how I felt when the raw, heart-felt and rockin' sounds of this album came blastin' from my hi-fi set. This stuff makes ya' feel all angry, sad and really darn happy all at the same time. The Turks walk a fine line between pure rage and absolute enthusiasm and it is impossible not to get wrapped up in the moment! The best part is that these guys create totally IRONY FREE rock'n'roll, they really mean it and it shows. No matching red and white outfits, no cute shaggy hair, no matching Blues Brothers-like suits and NO marketing strategy. You WILL buy this. You WILL love it. Trust me would ya'? ... Read more
