Editorial Review

Barely out of high school when signed as the first act for Powered By Ramen's new Decaydance imprint, guitarist Ryan Ross and drummer Spencer Smith of Panic! at the Disco had previously cut their musical teeth in a local Las Vegas Blink 182 cover band. It's that familiar, contempo-punk-pop sensibility, bolstered by the amped-up emo-core ambitions of singer Brendan Urie (typified by the snarky gem "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage") that dominates the opening tracks of the album. It's a shrewd hook, one the band steadily expands -- sonically and lyrically -- thereafter. The nervous energy of "London Beckoned Songs About Money Written By Machines" is set off by sonic embroidery that's sounds as intriguing as the vocoder shtick of "Nails For Breakfast..." does dated. Yet "Camisado" quickly shakes up Supertramp's prog-pomp with a double-shot of modern punk-pop smarts, an alchemy the band and producer Mint Squire performs with similarly inventive, genre-blurring ambition (complete with a quasi-Grand Guignol "Intermission" nearly worthy of Queen) on "Lying is the Most Fun..." and such standouts as "But Its Better If You Do" and the arch delight "Build God, Then We'll Talk." Too many young bands are content slaves to fashion; this one has forged a promising debut by shrewdly taking fashion hostage, then standing it firmly on its head. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good CD
I personally love this CD. It is a mix of rock and tech in a sense, and is different from other things that I've heard. My favorite songs from it were "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage", "Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks", "Time to Dance", "Camisado", and "There's a Good REason Why These Tables are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought of it Yet".
4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
This was awesome. My favorite songs were It's Time To Dance, Camisado, But It's Better If You Do, Build God Then We'll Talk, but my number one favorite song was I Constantly Thank God...
4-0 out of 5 stars Eh.
When the video for "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies" came out, I never bothered to watch it or listen to the song. When "But It's Better If You Do"'s video was released, it just seemed to pop up on almost every music station. I listened to it once or twice, thinking it's not that great. Suddenly, one day, (mind you, my friends had the album already) I was in love. I borrowed it from one of them and I'd been listening to it for about 2 days tops. Final opinion:

I bought this CD for two main reasons - "Dirty Little Secret" and "Move Along." After sampling the tunes I found myself liking a few others and so I took the plunge and bought this CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loyal AFI Fan!!!
Decemberunderground is one of the greatest cd's ever!!! I love all of AFI's music and bands do change there style to keep up to date.Davey's style keeps the band going and his voice is great!!!Jade's style with his guitar is his own!! Every song on this CD is excellent and you will never tire of it. Even if you have never heard of AFI, you will love this CD, give it a try!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a shabby followup

3-0 out of 5 stars A bold new direction.....in cruise control.
AFI is one of the more exciting acts in the quasi-rock mainstream. While they aren't risk takers in the Tim Buckley sense, they certainly aren't scared of adding fresh interesting levels to their maturing foundation. This of course accumliated in their best release to date,"Sing the Sorrow."This isn't the case with "December Underground" as they appear to have cut themselves down to the old punk quick so that they may construct an entirely different sound from the rubble.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I have to admit, when I first heard about this band and viewed their website, everything about them screamed 'cookie-cutter pop/punk/screamo band'. You know what, they might even be just that, but their album is still pretty good, and that's what really matters.
1-0 out of 5 stars how much worse can it get
i'm tired of all these bands that come out and they think they sound good. this is another example of how dumb music is sometimes. RJA has copied every other band i've heard of and i'm sick of that. "Face Down" is there first single and it sounds like a rip of MXPX. so yeah not even that song."Guardian Angel" or whatever sounds like Copeland, or Lifehouse or something like that. i mean every song on the cd is a copy of other bands. no originality what so ever. i wish bands that are trying to make it big use their own skills in writing instead of others. one star is the least i could do, and that's sad cause i enjoy music, don't waste your time on this cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars Seriously. ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS I OWN!!!
When I saw these guys on some 'Ones to Watch' sort of thing on mtv, i was immediately entranced. They had a catchy song and I immediately found my way to Limewire and downloaded face down.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Listen - but stop this Punk foolishness
A good buy - fast, catchy, easy, and very polished. But Punk? No. Closer to US Corporate Rock than anything else, but don't hold that against them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Growing Pains?
What people seem to dislike about this album is that it does not sound like the New Found Glory we all know and love, despite the band's repeatedly stating that it would be completely different. Whle they did that with Catalyst as well, it still retained the lightning-quick, high-pitched NFG sound yet showed signs of things to come.
4-0 out of 5 stars NFG- New Sound
I have been a New Found Glory fan forever.I absolutely love their music. After listening to the new CD I had mixed feelings about it. Overall, it is a great CD.They are one of the only bands that I feel hasn't really ever "sold out."They changed their sound a bit but just because it is different does not make it a bad CD.I really like most of the songs on the CD and I think that their music matured a little.I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone who listend to the pop-punk genre and New Found Glory fans.Just listen to it with an open mind before you judge it. ... Editorial Review

It's all about the power chord and the sing-along chorus. With the exception of the stark title track, Christopher Carrabba's once-prominent acoustic strumming is now in short supply. Along with Scott Schoenbeck, John Lefler, and Mike Marsh, the Dashboard Confessional mastermind cranks it all up on his fourth full-length: the guitars, vocals, drums, the works. Consequently, some listeners have been tossing around the letter "U" and the numeral "2." It's a bit of a stretch, although the album Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lifelong Fans will be a little dissapointed
Let me start this review by saying that i have been a hardcore dashboard fan for over 6 years back when it was just Chris and his guitar. I have always loved dashboard, and even when A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar came out i was still very impressed. This album however fell short of the normal Dashboard glory.
5-0 out of 5 stars <3
I waited all summer for this cd and it was worth it. This, alongside the soon to be released Sam's Town, will probably be my favourite albums this year. The only song I initially disliked was Slow Decay, but I looked at the lyrics and now I love it. It just sort of scared me at first, because it is so different than any other DC song.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great CD - Great lyrics - Great music
No outrageous rock and roll here. All the tracks have a nice tune to all of them.

3-0 out of 5 stars POWER POP ROCK
Firstly the new generation have a different understanding on the 'punk' vibe. Punk was more hard and aggressive than what is being pumped out today, take a listen to The Sex Pistols and Black Flag and this should give you a flavour of what punk is/was....
5-0 out of 5 stars Just funning...
Fall Out Boy "From Under the Cork Tree" is pure fun for me. I'm in my early 20's, probably over the intended demographic, but I love this band and their music. It's just fun stuff to dance around to or sing along in the car. I think the band had a lot of fun making the album, and I have fun listening to it. Okay, occasionally, some of their stuff is heavy-handed (to say the least), but I believe they meant it ironically, and even if they don't, I sing it that way.
1-0 out of 5 stars Poor
Ok, first things first, FALL OUT BOY IS NOT PUNK! Fall out boy is emo. Not punk. Punk Is black flag, agent orange...but NOT fall out boy! Their songs are bad, mostly about how their girlfriends wont sleep with them and they can not play their instroments at all. Listen to the bassist!

3-0 out of 5 stars Ewww...
Let's face it. Once in awhile, life hands us something that makes us want to say "ewww".That happened to me last night about 2:30 in the morning after listening to the debut album Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! from cute boy band Hellogoodbye.
2-0 out of 5 stars Fluffy Pretentiousness
HelloGoodbye has a sound that's really in vogue right now. The problem is they forgot that no amount of 'being hip' can replace 'tired cliche writing'. In many regards - most of the songs on the album could have been sung by a female pop group in the 90s and it would have sounded perfectly in place (especially Touchdown Turnaround (Don't Give Up On Me) which is borderline annoying).
4-0 out of 5 stars Hellogoodbye scores with Debut CD
Hellogoodbye has recently become one of my favorite new bands. They have a unique emo sound , with a touch of techno . The best tracks on their Debut " Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!", in my opinion are their first single " Here (in your arms)", " Baby , It's Fact" , " Touchdown Turnaround (don't give up on me) " , and " All of your love" . Their lyrics are just plain catchy , and their songs vary throughout the album . Some are loud , and some are soft love songs . Out of all the songs on the album , I can totally see Touchdown Turnaround as their next single . It's a great song , with really fun lyrics . If your a fan of Bright Eyes , you'll like this band . For some reason , they remind me of them in some songs . It's a fun CD that can be played over and over again. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly, this album doesn't suck!
I thought this album was not going to be very good, but I gave it a chance and was extremely surprised. It does not suck, as a matter of fact, it's actually pretty good! It's growing on me, "Let it Enfold You" didn't.The addition of Heath on guitar has DEFINATELY changed this band for the better. This is worth a listen or two, it'll grow on you.
4-0 out of 5 stars Senses Fail has yet to "fail"
This album is good. I feel that I have now given it enough listens to give an accurate opinion.
4-0 out of 5 stars Still Searching for SF's Older Stuff
Okay so Senses Fail is known to scream. Scream their god damn lungs out. They're there to give you a headache but to entertain you at the same time. Their older stuff is WAY more screamo then this stuff. This new stuff is good but way different than From Depths of Dreams and Let It Enfold You. It's still good but I will have to get used to it first. I'm so used to their old stuff where all they do is scream. But SF is like one of my favorite bands, so I will make an effort to get used to them. "Everyday Is A Struggle" and "Can't be saved" are two of my favorite songs on this CD so I guess I recommend them to you. Or anybody reading this right now. So yeah, if you know Senses Fail by their older stuff, this CD is a little different because they don't scream as much, it's more guitar licks and more singing. But it's still good so I'm not complaining. So uhh go buy it. It's different, but a good different. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wear Yourself Out With REAL Rock To HANG High
There's nothing sweeter than REVENGE and this album has songs that will cause you to storm up a room of blastin rock 'n' roll that will cause your parents to scream, your neighbors to feel annoyance, and most of all to boost rebellious minds - the ultimate aphrodisiac!
4-0 out of 5 stars Take it for what it is: this is a good album
In certain crowds, you're not supposed to like bands like My Chemical Romance, because you're supposed to despise anything that gets air time on MTV. If you're that type of person, stay away from this album. If you can appreciate music for what it is and not worry so much about what's politically correct to listen to, you may really like this album. The songs are catchy, the lead singer does a good job and the production is good overall.
5-0 out of 5 stars Technically great, but people refuse to see it.
I like MCR. There. I said it. MCR is good, despite what all the haters say. I've found out that the main reason people don't like Green Day, MCR, etc. is because they don't want to be associated with "that kind of person." I can see that, and that's why I don't openly love MCR. I don't want the haters to shun me, and I don't want the lovers inviting me into their crowd.

First of all let me say that i'm really rating this album with THREE STARS. I gave it 5 stars to balance the rating due to all the idiotic hate reviews this album and band are getting.
5-0 out of 5 stars Crazy
This cd is one word Crazy.I Love every song on it.If you love rock/metal.You will love this cd.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't give them all the power when your future's in desperate trouble
Since I bought this album a year ago I've moved onto harder and heavier bands, like Slayer and Cradle of Filth, and even some older ones too, like Iron Maiden and Ozzy. Avenged Sevenfold has evolved into something that fits right in the middle of all of that. They even seem to have an anti-war feeling in two of the songs, despite the fact that they claim to not be a political band at all.

1-0 out of 5 stars Make Damn Sure
If you happen upon the video for MakeDamnSure and the sound on your television is off, then you would think that the band Taking Back Sunday is ripping one hell of a energetic and explosive tune. They look like the MC5 in the video, jumping off amps, winging guitars around there head, looking serious as all hell. But if your like me and you turn the sound back on, your going to hear that it's another whiny and droning effort from the emo machine designed to make kids in high school feel self important.
3-0 out of 5 stars ugh
TBS is my favorite band, no matter what. Tell all your friends and where you want to be were amazing cds with amazing songs. Everything about TBS was perfect. I was really pumped for Louder Now and when I finally got it I was really dissapointed, yes their sound is different but thats not really the problem. The songs just didn't have that special something that the other two albums had. I do however very much enjoy "ill let you live", "error operator", "whats it feel like to be a ghost", and "make damn sure"
4-0 out of 5 stars Slightly Dissapointed...
Yes, I have to be honest, I'm slightly dissapointed with this album, yet I'm giving it 4 stars. My reason for being "slightly "dissapointed, is that the album really starts off with a bang, but then drops of a little. The first 3 songs are so strong and sound so amazing that the rest of the album really just can't keep up. What It Feels Like To Be A Ghost, Liar, and MakeDamnSure, are just fantastic songs, some of the best work that TBS has done. For those three alone, Louder Now is worth buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Take a risk and check them out
I first heard Kill Hannah on a tour with Clear Static and Shiny Toy Guns earlier this year. I was hooked with the first set I heard from them. (I went on to hear them twice more in the next 3 days.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this cd.
If you are unfamilar with Kill Hannah, then buy either of their albums available here on amazon.
3-0 out of 5 stars Glam rock that shifts gears often enough to cause engine damage.
As elegant as it is over the top, as sophisticated as it is bombastic, Chicago based Kill Hannah's second major label offering balances between excess and subtlety while never letting one outweigh the other. High energy glam rock anthems like 'Love You to Death' and album's first single 'Lips Like Morphine' hold nothing back while slower and decidedly mellower selections like 'Black Poison Blood' and 'The Collapse' recall the pleasant, drawn out melodies of Smashing Pumpkins' later days. While this balance of polarized song styles makes for a varied and enjoyable record, sometimes the group delves a bit too far into each side. Some tracks go beyond being subtle, becoming dull and tedious ('Statues Without Eyes') while others are almost too over the top to be taken seriously (see the 80's synth pop excess of 'Crazy Angel'). Overall, Until There's Nothing Left of Us is a solid and enjoyable effort and the album's excellent last three songs more than compensate for its few steps in the wrong direction. ... Read more

It's hard to pinpoint the exact moment Modest Mouse started sounding like a real band. For the longest time, singer-songwriter Isaac Brock seemed to exist solely to defy the established rules, forging forward on sheer momentum and ingenuity. Even Pavement looked relatively ordinary in comparison to the band's early releases like 1996's Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars brilliant and accessible
Modest Mouse is hard to love. Many of their albums are grating. I know they are good, but for the life of me I can't enjoy them wholly. Maybe this makes me less intelligent somehow, that I prefer the more mainstream Good News... to their other albums. But I find that Good News gets stuck to me and I just can't shake the songs. This album all feels very new. It is welcome on mainstream radio, but remains unique. The single Float On was a bit hit and rightly so...it feels good and honest. It's what pop should sound like. The album is still intensely creative, and while sometimes that is tiring (I get older waiting for genius songs to grow on me) here the songs immediately catch. Favorites are Ocean Breathes Salty, The View, Satin in a coffin, and black cadillacs.
2-0 out of 5 stars Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News

4-0 out of 5 stars Really unique and fun to listen to!
I got this CD in January or February and I really like it. I've heard Float On a million times before I bought it and I thought " Wow, this is pretty weird music but I actually like it ". My aunt also has this album and the songs are really good. My favorite songs are The World At Large and The Ocean Breathes Salty. Some of the songs on the album are really nice listening to and SOME of them are calm. One song where Isaac sings F**k F**k F**k is calm, hehe, but I still really like this CD. It's great and unique. I recommend this album to anybody who loves soft rock/indie music. 4.5/5 stars! ... Read more

Editorial Review

There's a classic episode of The Little Rascals where one of the gang can't join everybody else on the ballfield because he has to stay home with his younger brother, who has the croup. "I can't come out and play," he whines. "I've got to stay home and grease Wheezer!" Nobody at Geffen Records knows whether this was the inspiration in naming Weezer, but it makes sense. Like many of their peers, the members of the Los Angeles quartet seem to have spent their formative years in front of the TV; when they were a little older, they were just as entranced by college rock. Finally, ala the Rascals, one of the gang said, "Hey, kids, let's put on a show!," and the result is Weezer's uplifting, unpretentious, and extremely endearing debut. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Joey woulda liked this
I'm positive that Joey Ramone liked this disc.In a decade where "nothing really knocked me out anymore", this disc did it.And it's still spinning. In a lackluster, harmonically bland decade, with Rubbish flannel clad grunge bands like Pearl Jam, this was a standout. An anger veiled in sugar. Rivers and the geek boys are king.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best albums are simply colors
Once in a while an album will be produced and it will have no name, simply because the amount of talent and energy put into it could not be defined or summed up in any set of words. And these albums will go down in history as being the best of their time. The White album in 1968, Metallica's Black album of 91, and Weezer's Blue album of 94. That's right, I hold the Blue album up next to the White album. And why not, Rivers is not only the appealing front man but also the humble song writer and lead guitarist. The album creates an immediate first impression on your ears with a catchy verse chorus verse, but with better guitar riffs and licks then you would hear any normal punk rock musican pull off. The album progresses through and all of the feelings that 90's alternative (yes alternative) rock gives a fan come shooting into your veins. The teenage angst pulls you back into your garage by your sweater and you find yourself staring at old posters on the wall and when you ask your friend...whats the name of this album...you are surprised of his response when you only hear...."the blue album"....

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands down, one of the best albums you'll ever listen to.
Definitely one of the best albums there is. Every song is great, Say it aint so is a favorite, as well as The world has turned. I recommend this album to anyone aspiring to buy a weezer album, the BLUE album should be a first pick. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars well, it's progression.......but backwards
lets revisit the history of the band plain white t's. their debut album "stop" was a very anthem filled songs about life and relationships that would appeal to mostly to people in highschool or perhaps young college students. this being said because the album talks alot about doing something with your life at pivotal moments and of course relationships.
5-0 out of 5 stars improvement
are you people serious? their last album "all that we needed" was terrible! i was so disappointed because of my pure enjoyment of their old stuff, i just didn't think it was up to par and i think that the band felt the same way because they didn't wait long before releasing "every second counts" which is awesome! it's exactly what i was hoping for from this band, and if they keep it up, they'll make it big!

1-0 out of 5 stars Uninspired.
Half the effort of their previous work. The lyrics for every song are about relationships. Gets real tedious if you listen to the album straight through.

1-0 out of 5 stars Fair Rating
I haven't offer reviews before, relying on other opinions to broaden my music horizons.I just couldn't let this one go by.This would get a half star if there was such a rating. No value whatsoever.Stick to Porcupine Tree, Afrocelt Sound System, Gentle Giant to name a few exploratory groups with talent.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
And I don't even like prog-rock that much. There is such a devine space created by these guys though that I'm compelled to listen... over, and over, and over... you get the idea. I've also listened to Amputechture and Frances the Mute and for myself personally De-Loused is the go to album of these guys - the others seem a tad to overbearing and overindulgent (even prog-rock is supposed to represent these two ideologies). Somehow the inspiration of their friend's coma experience and subsequent death helps elevate this piece of material above the other two in my opinion. On a purely technical level, these guys have chops, the engineering makes perfect use of the stereo range, and the mastering job is one of the best and most natural that I've heard in a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars They could be the next Pink Floyd!
I bought FTM and loved it, and I knew then that I was in need of this fantastic album! A great suprise. The album tells a stroy.
