5-0 out of 5 stars Great music for a great cause!
I bought the PROTECT CD because, at this price, even if it wasn't very good I'd have supported some musicians and my money would go to a good cause.
3-0 out of 5 stars almost amazing until you hit track 2
The most powerful song i think ever written about love and security is the first song on this album "Demons Away" By Matt Skiba of the Alkaline Trio, the rest of the album is hard to fallow and really doesn't do that great of a job but it is an awsome cd check it out if you like the plea for peace comps take action or any of the sort of benefit comps (fo some reason bands put their best songs on thee hard to find cds) ... 2-0 out of 5 stars not good
I bought this because I like both the cover bands and Neil Young, but it isn't very good.I wouldn't pay more than $5 if you see it in a 'used' bin.

5-0 out of 5 stars the most important album of 1989
this album was created by caroline records & N.Young to have some current/alt (very alternative at the time PTV does a tune ...)do some covers for a school.. THe Bridge school was no-funded alt. school for kids in jeopardy but were gifted(i.e.autistic but could do 10 digit math probs no sweat. Anyways its all here pixies at their hieght soul asylum before "runaway train" crushed the life out of them. Bongwater ,sonic youth,so many and the cd has like seven bonus trax not on the lp or tape if your truly old skool were really there this ones for YOU!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars It is what it is.
Obviously this is going to appeal mostly to fans of "Neil Young", but the bands on here are pretty great as well. First of all, any album with "Sonic Youth", "The Pixies", AND "Dinosaur Jr." must be good, and all their covers are good. I also like the covers from "Soul Asylum", "Flaming Lips", and "Psychic TV". The only thing about this disc though, like all tributes, is that it just makes you want to listen to the real thing, which of course "Neil" is. Also check out Willie Nelsons tribute album "Twisted Willie", which has the same caliber of bands. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing
The artists on this label are amazing. This comp is one of the best out there!! It gives some of the lesser known Trustkill artists a chance to be heard. I got introduced to Fight Paris on this comp and just love them. It Dies Today is another amazing band as are Bullet for my Valentine and Bedlight for blueEYES (Track 3- Ephemeral Addictions), Roses are Red, and Hopesfall. This comp is a must for any fan of Trustkill Records. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD!
This compilation has some wonderful tracks, including a liveversion of "Come Undone" that can't be beat.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Mix of '90s Hits
Containing album versions of EMF's "Unbelievable", Lenny Kravitz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way", Radiohead's "Creep", and Enigma's "Return to Innocence", the CD also features some hard-to-find nuggets: the 12" Mix of Blur's "Girls & Boys", a live version of Duran Duran's "Come Undone" (featuring an excellent backup singer), the acoustic version of Tasmin Archer's "Sleeping Satellite" (a must have), and an acoustic version of Milla's "Gentleman Who Fell" (surprisingly great).4-0 out of 5 stars Eclectically-good but weird compilation...
Some good rare tracks on here (for me anyway), notably Come Undone (live) by Duran and the PSB remix of Blur's Girls&Boys. Oh and look out for an acoustic version of Tasmin Archer's UK #1 Sleeping Satellite... chillingly awesome ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars rap for everyone
This is a pretty interesting disc.I guess some of the songs are rap, but mostly it's a collection of songs you've probably heard in the mid 90's.It's worth noting that people who aren't fans of rap might like what they hear on this disc. It's one of those albums you want to pull out every so often to see if you find it as fascinating as you did when you first heard it.I think you'll be surprised it holds up over the years.

5-0 out of 5 stars My First Listen to 90's Grunge
I don't know really too much about music history and "technicalities" so don't bust a nut after reading my title... But this was a CD my father gave me out of pure whim or something like that... Any way, it doesn't play any more, but I still have it to this very day. It has been 9 years since I first got it and still love ALL the songs. In short, (although a bit too late) BUZZ BIN vol. 1 is a great compilation from America's Anti-Music Television Station: MTV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly together
All of the songs on the album are ones that I'm fond of. I'm pretty surprised at how the songs flow into each other as well. Cranberries "Zombie after White Zombie is rather clever. Check this out if you miss the more heavy sounding songs from the 90's. MTV's Buzz Bin was one of the best things to me in the 90s, and I'm really sad that it's gone now. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not much quality
The big draw of this album is probably the big name bands (Pennywise and NOFX) and the big name Misfits songs they have covered (Astro Zombies and Last Caress). Unfortunately for this album, the two come off as some of the most dissapointing. Without Danzig's crooning voice, "Astro Zombies" comes off bland, and the whiny stylings of NOFX makes "Last Caress" sound like a immature third grader's joke. Goldfinger's "Ghoul's Night Out" isn't bad, but The Misfit's "12 Hits from Hell" version is miles better.
5-0 out of 5 stars no more texan reviews
First of all if you're from texas you have no right to an opinion of punk rock music being from the largest redneck state in this sick country. I personally enjoyed Pennywise's "astro zombies" and NOFX's "Last Caress". Some of the songs on this CD aren't that great but I'd pirate the good music instead of buying the entire CD from this greedy website!

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible!
I'm pretty much a traditionalist when it comes to Punk rock. And being a Misfits fan since 1984, I can say these are some of the worst Misfits covers ever! I know the groups gave their renditions and took some liberties..but some of this is pure crap. NofX? Now that was embarassing.. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The dead still can dance.
Dead Can Dance is that kind of band you cant review by this time. You can only watch its beauty, listen to that immortal music and voices of Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry. This is a legend, which we have to respect and pay worships. "The Carnival Within" is an obvious tribute to simply unearthly band, the one strange thing is that CD is single. The selection of bands is uncommonly felicitous, but not all songs deserve the prototype. Maybe because its impossible to get close to that inimitable ideal, which is Dead Can Dance. Maybe because songs of "The Carnival Within" should be more delicate as the object of tribute, because very often hard notes are breaking out in sudden places; in short here goes a storm without storm warning. Heart was bleeding for "Cantara" and "Yulunga" over lack of customary heavenly vocals and adorable clear percussion in their rehashes. Something like relief was given by Rheas Obsession, Javroe & PBK and Surface 10 with Athan Maroulis. In "Mesmerism" Rheas Obsession kept subtly those elusive notes of gothic charm, at the same time being themselves. "I Can See Now" by Javroe and PBK is agreeable for ears by soft singing and original sound. As for Athan Maroulis, hes not guilty for that his voice is familiar with vocals of Brendan Perry, and so his soloing in "Ulysses" was rather effective and realized. Leaether Strip had wildly fabulous sound in "Carnival is over", but, sorry, I laughed when Ive heard a whisper instead of speaking at least.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth it to me
This CD is worth it for the Leaetherstrip version of the "Carnival is Over".The whole thing is very mellow and atmospheric. It's not as good as DCD, but if you recognize and like these bands, you'll probably like this CD.

3-0 out of 5 stars PLEASANT ENOUGH
Although some of these covers tend towards the forgettable, this is a pleasant enough album. The delightful exceptions include the magnificent Ulysses by Surface 10 - a very impressive version with its solemn world-weary male voice and beautiful arrangement, the aggressive/erotic punk Cantara by Evil Mothers and the spooky, whispered Carnival Is Over by Leather Strip. And why is The Unbiquitous Mr Lovegrove covered twice? Far better candidates for memorable cover versions would have been Persephone (The Gathering Of Flowers) or The Host Of Seraphim. I can understand that DCD fanatics won't appreciate this album, but the above three tracks make it worthwhile. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Punk is awesome.
This is a great CD. The Falling Sickness song Dwindle is quite excellant and the uncredited cover of the song from Grease("We go Together") is excellant. If you like punk in the vein of Punk-O-Rama vol. 1, you'll like this. Some bands on here with good songs include: Falling Sickness, Funeral Oration(Another great band) and The Nobodys. Be sure to get this CD. But what really matters is you shouldn't buy this from Amazon, buy it direct from Hopeless. I got it at my local mom and pop record store, not a chain. You should buy from a local store or buy all your punk direct from the label. I don't know how this scam works, but they've even got Propagandhi's Less Talk, More Rock, which has no barcode, precisely so it couldn't be sold by big business. DON'T BUY PUNK FROM AMAZON! Amazon is cool for mainstream music and great for books, but not Punk. Hope they print this... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars if only they'd focused more on 12" singles versions...
with over 15 volumes in the "Just Can't Get Enough" series, this is the only volume that ever touched upon some 12" dance singles, not just 7" dance singles. You get a good amount here, but there are still some single mixes. And the version of Lawnchairs on here is the "original" and not the version most are familiar with--that version is actually much better. However, this volume is worth getting for the 12" version of Dominatrix on CD alone! Track times:
4-0 out of 5 stars Commercial New Wave, This Is Not! (That's a Very Good Thing)
For fans of New Wave music who idealize New Wave as being a cookie-cutter lineup of the Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears and Duran Duran (perhaps like the last reviewer), this is not your CD! That's the good news, because New Wave music is/was so much more than the Top 40 New Wave you currently hear in the increasing retro/flashback radio waves. Kudos to a compilation that explores some of the obscurity that true New Wave music originated from, the underground.

Great record! It's true a lot of people think the original punk bands were Black Flag & Circle Jerks which are great, but hear you see The Weirdos which is the FIRST California punk band and The Bags which, was probablythe FIRST hardcore band with a female singer. The Germs is probably thebest live show they've done that's been released. If you want to know aboutearly LA punk rock (we all know how expensive those Dangerhouse singles canget), or just the first wave of punkers this is a great place to start!

Wow. For anyone who likes novelty music this thing's an absolute goldmine--everything from the all-kazoo version of "Whole Lotta Love"to Seth Kirkland's "Famous Jews", which was a big hit on Dr.Demento but unreleased for years. In the meantime, Adam Sandler wrote asong that was more or less the same gag, but he had a record deal. Too badfor Seth. The second disc is a little less enjoyable than the first, butthey're still very solid efforts and worth their weight in platinum forfans of Big Daddy, or Wildman Fischer, or any of the other stars in theRhino galaxy. 3-0 out of 5 stars A shifty bit of reworking
To be brutally honest: this is merely a re-release of a slightly older punk compilation (originally released in 1997) that has been renamed. That's it.Humorously, the original 3-disc set was labelled "God Save The Queen: 1976-1996" and celebrated 20 years of punk rock. Now, the exact same 3-disc set is celebrating 25 years of punk, 1976-2001.This all reeks of profit on the part of the record company.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars L.A. punk comp from back in the day + 24 more:
I thought for sure the MINUTEMEN were on this.Maybe on the vinyl LP and not this CD?I'm confused.(I'm no longer cornfused, they're there, they're there! on the CD, yeah baby, and a good song too, tho, it's the opposite of an oxymoron. That is, there's really no such thing as a MINUTEMEN song that isn't good, question only is, is it a great one or just a really good one.Ah, such pleasurable questions to ponder).Meanwhile, there were a bunch of really classic punk/HC/thrash comps back in the day (all great, these are not ranked). Punk rock comps were a way to get the music into the hands of punx world wide in a bunch, instead of doing a 7" or an LP.Remember, there was no Internet so there was no filesharing or MP3.If you stumble on any one of these comps, take my word for it, you'll be happy owning it, assuming yer into punk/hc/thrash (there's no metal in any of this or rap or rock or post punk and I believe every comp listed here is from the 80's, mostly the early to mid 80's).
5-0 out of 5 stars classic l.a. hardcore
This album was my intro to the L.A. scene. Every great band from the area with the exception of Black Flag and Circle Jerks is represented here.If you are curious about the bands that influenced current bands like the Offspring and Blink 182 this is a good introduction. Of course after hearing these bands you will probably never listen to those bands again.
