5-0 out of 5 stars 'Straight Outta Burbank' 2-CD various artists (Bomp)
Two discs, with a total of forty-five bands.Due to space limitations,I'll just list the bands and not the tunes of the tracks that I enjoyed the most.Disc one introduces bands on the Bomp and Voxx labels.I dug the tunes by The Zeros,Dead Boys,Brian Jonestown Massacre,Psychotic Youth,Iggy&The Stooges,The Germs,The Heartbreakers(no,not Tom Petty's band),DMZ(doing a 13th Floor Elevator cover)and the Martians.Disc two features bands from the Total Energy and Alive labels. It's equally as good and includes some killer cuts by Swell Maps,Street Walkin' Cheetahs,U.S.Bombs,Pink Fairies,Deviants,MC5,John Sinclair and Sun Ra And His Solar Myth Arkestra.Comes with a 16-page booklet that lists the line-up and details of each song.Fantastic cover!

5-0 out of 5 stars What? I can't hear you...play louder!
Incredible collection of must-have tracks from Bomp, Alive and Total Energy. From Iggy and the Stooges, the Dead Boys, Zeros, Germs, Dils, Swell Maps, Deviants, etc etc etc -- this is the best compilation I've ever heard.Having the musical pedigree Bomp has, this shouldn't be surprising, but most comps aren't worth picking up.This one is -- especially if your copy comes with a great Bomp sticker in it!(Did I mention Sun Ra? and the Pink Fairies? and Tav Falco? . . . .)Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A BIG LETDOWN EVEN AT 4 BUCKS
This was one of the worst compilations I have heard. Seriously. Do notpurchase this disk unless you want to give away 4 bucks. If you were todivide the price of this disk by the twenty-five or so bands thatcontributed to it.. you would still come up with a value well beyond theworth of this CD. Not trying to be mean, just keepin it real.

5-0 out of 5 stars good ska tunes!

3-0 out of 5 stars ALKALINE TRIO SAVED THIS ALBUM!
I have loved the RHPS for as long as I can remember..
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I'm a huge fan of RHPS as well as a fan of all different types of punk music.I heard this album and was greatly disappointed in it.There were some alright songs but a majority of them were horribly done, ESPECIALLY the Time Warp.I definately do not recommend this to anyone, save your money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Overall, a dissapointment.
Only about 3 or 4 really solid tracks.Perhaps I was expecting a bit much, but when I purchased this album, I was expecting to hear punked up versions of the songs of RHPS, not songs from the RHPS performed by punk bands exactly like it is on the soundtrack, except with the gain cranked up.I wanted to hear songs hard and fast, and based on my experience with the body of work of most of the artists on the compilation, I expected it to be a pretty good cd.The majority of songs on this album are as I said, performed almost exactly the same as the original soundtrack, but that's not really what I feel is advertised. And so much talent on this cd! Man, I was really dissapointed.Really, all a few songs needed was the punk rock gallop on the drums, and maybe kick it up about 10-20 BPM, and would have been a kickin' cd.The stand out tracks are by Apocalypse Hoboken(Performed almost exactly the same, but the vocalist does such an excellent job of it), Luckie Strike, The Secretions(man, they rip the hell out of "In Just Seven Days," the song clocks in at about a minute-twenty, the way it should be.), and the Migraines did a fine job.Me First And The Gimme Gimmes did a nice take on Science Fiction Double Feature, Harmonies were right on, but I would have liked to have heard it about 20 bpm faster. As much as I like the Groovie Ghoulies other works, their rendition of Time Warp is excruciating to listen to.Flat, uninspired vocal delivery, and NO HARMONIES!!!Sucked all the life from such a classic, fun musical number.Pansy Division was awful here.Majorly let down by the Swingin Utters. Some of the songs didn't even last 10 seconds before I skipped them, and I don't usually skip songs on cds.Perhaps my expectations were too high.If you are a HUGE fan of RHPS, but maybe not so much into punk, and just want a slightly different take on the classics, give it a spin.If you want another copy of the RHPS soundtrack, it's an option.Just don't go in with expectations very high. You're likely to be dissapointed.

3-0 out of 5 stars it's ok
The only thing that really shines on this album is Strung Outs cover of every breath you take.Anyone who says this song blows is a complete moron. For the rest of the songs, ehh...., a lot of bands could have picked better songs to cover.Overall buy it used or discounted.

3-0 out of 5 stars Eh.
As if one 80's nostalga comp wasn't enough, Vagrant brings round 2 of your favorite punkers remembering the past. This star-studded comp contains big names such as NOFX, MxPx, The Get Up Kids, and Lagwagon. Maybe it's cause I'm a bit too young, but I don't recall ever hearing half these songs. There's only about half the songs that jog my memory on this CD, which are: the Suicide Machines' decent cover of "What I Like About You", the Hippos' quirky, MOOGish-sounding "Our Lips Are Sealed" by the Go Go's, the Bouncing Souls note for note rendition of "Don't You Forget About Me" (seriously, it sounds almost identical to the original; hearing it made me want to go watch "The Breakfast Club" again), the Gotohell's simple punk cover of "Just What I Needed" (I think this song is a staple for any halfway decent punk band to cover at some point in their career), Strung Out's completely horrible version of "Every Breath You Take," and ending the CD there is ALL's weak cover of "Rebel Yell" by the first punker I ever saw on TV, Mr. Billy Idol. I don't know if I should've paid full-price for this, but it is fairly enjoyable, if not for the music then for the hilarious 80's yearbook photos inside.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
Some pretty good bands on here, although the 80's songs are a little more obscure on this one from the last. The Get Up Kids and Strung Out both add some punch to the songs they cover. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kewl music with a great mix of style
I love Hopeless Records. Some of my favorite bands like Mustard Plug, Avenged Sevenfold, and The Weakerthans are featured on this label and appear multiple time on this album. The Hopelessly Devoted To You compilations are some of the best out there, especially since in my opinion the Punk-O-Rama series has gotten too dull.
5-0 out of 5 stars worth your money
this cd has an incredible mix of songs, and for 4 bucks i dont see any reason to complain even if you think it sucks.the stuff from avenged sevenfold (A7X) rocks, and its worth the money just in these two songs.against all authority has two good songs in there, along with scared of chaka and selby tigers.thrice surprisingly had some pretty hardcore songs on this.i admit the weakheartens suck, along with mustard plug and some other songs, but if you look past that this is a awesome cd, especially for 4 bucks.buy it if you want a great cd

3-0 out of 5 stars Very mixed feelings about this
This compilation contains a very strange mix of music. The only real reason I bought it was to get an unreleased Samiam song, and it was probably worth it for that. That track is very good. Also, I was happy to be introduced to Avenged Sevenfold, I may pick up some of their stuff... was very impressed with their songs. I also liked the Selby Tigers track, thought that was very good... not sure if I'd pick up their stuff but maybe. The track by Jeff Ott is OK and was cool to have in there, Scared of Chaka was OK as well.Read more

This CD features a lot of incredibly strange music. Most of these tracks are really bizarre, but interesting. The majority of them are taken directly from rare old records, so some of them are a bit scratchy. If you like strange old records, you need to get this CD.

1-0 out of 5 stars At Least It's for a Good Cause
Well, here's your chance to show your level of political commitment.About the only good thing I can say about this collection is 50% of the proceeds from the wholesale price will benefit ACLU's lesbian/gay rights and AIDS projects.Rather than showcase the wide variety of gay & lesbian talent out there, they have filled this CD (two disc's worth) with maudlin folksie ballads (disc one) and novelty songs (disc two). The only artist with whom I was familiar was RuPaul, and even his contribution was bland. It's a shame ACLU couldn't follow HRC's example and create an exciting collection of music with a bit more variety to appeal to all ears.I'd buy HRC's Being Out Rocks collection instead. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars --
I laugh at those of you who don't like this cd because it has songs by liberal bands. Why did you even bother buying this if you are in support of Bush? The title should have given you a hint as to what kind of message it was sending out...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This cd rocks! I didn't like Bush since he became our leader and I still don't like him now! I love the way all the artists came together and made this cd. The song Favorite Son by Green Day is great. it's on of those songs that just gets stuck in your head because it's so catchy. Also Green Day is one of the best political bands that I've heard and met. So to wrap up what I'm trying to say is: this is a great cd, all the songs are catchy except for mabey one, the message that this cd is giving out is that Bush sucks. He might be the worst president ever!, This cd is great and it is one of the best cd's I've heard in a long time. So you should get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars good compileation
this is a very good compileation of classic alt/rock artists to relitivley new people, all with very good songs. many exclusive/new tracks, that if you are a fan of the band you definatly want to get. (i got it for 'favorite son' and ended up loving all of it). also sends out the message of punkvoter.com and against the criminal/ingornat bush administration. comes with a dvd that includes some great music vidoes, very hilarious comedy bits(by will fereal, greg proops, and patton oswalt), and informative political shorts. highly recomend it if you are pro-peace, anti-bush, a punk music lover, or all of the above. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This album was a classic when it came out, still blasts ya today.
How many different covers did Dischord do re-pressing this album?Meanwhile, you got a great taste of the early 80's DC punk rock/hardcore scene.Does it stand the test of time? Does it still sound great today? To my ears (enjoying punk and hardcore since 1978, so, they're old ears now) it's almost as great today as This Is Boston, Not L.A./Unsafe At Any Speed CD which has weathered time just a nudge better than Flex Your Head.Still, if you want U.S. hardcore and you favor the DC scene, if you don't own this sucka, well, yer odd.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great overview of early DC punk!
This is a great sampler and overview of early DC / Dischord punk rock. It's a bit withering to listen to the whole thing at once, but as a sampler it really works well and intices you to seek out the individual artists. Recommended as a good historical document as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars uh

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent 80's tunes
The gem on this disc is obviously Ultravox's Vienna. While the others are very, very good and a few crappy tunes I can't even remember getting air time back in the day, the disc is an overall prize.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cult Classics
With songs like "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and "Echo Beach," this collection is definitely worth having. The titles that aren't familiar are bound to grow on anyone open to hearing something they haven't heard before.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cultural Gap?
After reading the first few reviews I thought it might be appropriate to respond. There are a large number of hits on this album, but a lot of them weren't US hits.If you lived in the UK, Europe or Australia - you will know and like a lot of these songs - even americans who got into the new wave scene in the late 70s and early 80s will know songs from clubs that never got radio play.I really enjoyed this album - and if you know a reasonable number of the songs - I am sure you will enjoy it - it's great at parties too!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Detroit Radio 80's classics!!
I ordered this CD used & what a bargain!! Almost every song takes me right back to the tunes that had radio play in Detroit in the 80's - 89X! I don't think you'll be sorry with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another excellent disc in the NWHOT80's series
I tend to judge these discs not by the number of instantly familiar tracks that they have, but rather by the number of great songs that you heard once or twice and could never manage to track down anywhere else.Of the big hits, only the Human League's "(Keep Feeling) Fascination" actively nauseates, but this is only a minor criticism. The rest of the songs make for an overall enjoyable listen, with The Jam's "Beat Surrender", The Plimsoul's "A Million Miles Away" and A Flock Of Seagulls "Wishing" all combining to push the collection over the top and out of the realm of the ordinary.(Extra points because the Jam and the Plimsouls songs are truly excellent and as far as I'm concerned were truly lost.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for Beginners
Volume 10 in this complete and unprecedented New Wave series certainly lives up to the standards of the rest of the albums. It includes severalmore well known songs (Our House--a standard in any 80s compilation), aswell as many more 80s tunes less universally known (Putin' on the Ritz, etc). For fans of the New Wave series and New Wave music in general, thisCD is a valuable addition to your collection. However, if you are onlylooking for the standards in 80s music and the best of New Wave, I wouldsuggest you shop around first to see if there are any better New Wave CDswith more of the classic hits you want. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars best compilation i own
This cd is the best compilation i own. It has a devils brigade song called vampire girl. devils brigade is a psychobilly band which is everyone in rancid except for lars. it also has good tracks from tiger army, lars and the bastards, nekromantix, rancid, distillers, agnostic front, dropkick murphys and some other this compilation is awesome but at the end theres some ska i dont enjoy too much. this cd also contains 2 videos you can watch on your computer. one is dropkick murphys - spicy mchaggis jig and the other is tiger army - cupids victim. this is a very good compilation its well worth 5-6 bucks.i hope they come out with give em the boot 4.

5-0 out of 5 stars good mix
give em the boot 2 had a lot of reggae & ska on it & this one is more punk rock, which is good. the bands on it were really good and i pretty much liked every song (the joe strummer one was kind of weird...not like the clash at all). i would recommend it especially since it's so cheap.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another in a great series
Hellcat Records has turned out another great compilation.I must say that it sounds a little harder, the music a little less melodic and more hardcore. That's just fine by me.The music videos are a nice touch."The Spicy McHaggis Jig" video is one of the funniest videos I've seen in a long time.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have...
A rare gem I didn't expect to see on CD.I have loved this record since I found it in a used record store in Poughkeepsie in the 80's.Early Elvis the C, Nick Lowe, Dave Edumunds, Wreckless Eric...All recorded live in clubs with real drunk fans out for a good time.

5-0 out of 5 stars yo
This is a wonderfully eccentric, thrilling album. All have unique styleexcept for the boring Larry Wallis, Police Car. Note: Rolling Stone pannedit in 1977, except for Larry Wallis. And they always act like they werealways so cool..... We must have more Wreckless Eric! Bring his stuff outon CD. 5-0 out of 5 stars A True Punk Classic--Too Often IGNORED!
Okay. I confess I love this album and saw NOTHING about it here on amazon. Protest the lack of info! Every punk worth his or her safety pins should own this classic. It has a heartbreakingly lovely version of the young andangry Elvis Costello singing Burt Bacharach--more honest and also a littlemeaner than on his other more recent album. Lots of fun punk stuff: IanDrury and The Blockheads doing Sex and Drugs and Rock & Roll, and theAustin Powers of Punk, Wreckless Eric with great big power pop songs. Nick Lowe, too. Much more. Great fun. Happy bouncy punk with a streak ofexplosive noise and madness. Kind of a classic. A great party album.Looking back (it's almost 20 years old) it seems sweet, insane, andwonderfully optimistic about music in the post-disco era.

5-0 out of 5 stars UNARECOPILACION COMPLETA

So we have here 23 cuts from 23 different albums.Passable listening for those times when you really don't know what you want to listen to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent sampler by the DGM label
This CD is a VERY GOOD sampler of the various artists signed to Discipline Global Mobile (Robert Fripp's label). It features 23 long clips of the music by those artists, and focuses mainly (as should be expected) onFripp's bands and offshoots.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Still fails to please
I have never really liked comps as i always have to get up and skip tracks which i dont like and there is usually a few, much as i like some of the bands on this fat comp it still just does'nt work really i mean some tracks are great on it it's just a bit of a let down thats a waste of money considering i bought it for 15 when i should have been 5. Having said that the previous fat comp is alot better than this.

4-0 out of 5 stars In Mattersville you can do whatever you please.....-Fat Mike
..oh yeah, I'm just another sorry kid who bought this compilation just for the NOFX song, but who cares, the album is pretty awesome,I loved the wizo song and dillinger plan were pretty awesome too ,I feel a lil' dissapointed for the gimme gimmes but not that much really, but Mattersville took all the awards, just cuz it's funny and with a rare old school punk scent, but if ye like good fat comps, buy Live Fat Die Young,it's a way better,

5-0 out of 5 stars Uncontrollable Flatulence, awesome name, awesome CD
This album is definelty a stellar compilation done by Fat Music, though I'm not familiar with Fat Music. With bands such as Less Than Jake, Nofx, Anti-Flag, and Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies, this album is priceless. My personal favorites are Generation Lost, Friends of the Enemy, Your Worst Mistake, and Faction. ... Read more
