3-0 out of 5 stars good acoustic cuts some funny comedy mixed in
locally done in worcester ma , it freaked me out when i heard it in colorado soon after its release. personally have hung with rocko (sorry to say)& have to admit his comedy on the cd doesn't suck especially thesponsoring child thing(your BAD rocko). the bands are good & theacoustic versions of their songs are even more appealing than their studiocuts.worth adding to your tired collection ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Introduction To Some of the Best of 80's Punk
Oi, this is one of the best 80's punk comp's you can get.40 songs and one bad quality video. Don't buy this for the bonus video of Peter and the Test tubes. Quality on that is bad and it's running off old cd/vid program to make matters worse! Anyways on to the actual album. Has so many great bands from the Violators to Action Pact! UK Subs to Vice Squad to The Dark!!!! This is the best of a three series called Punk and Disorderly from I believe 81-83. Highly recommend one picks up those too! VL 3 is overall the best of what England had to offer while some of the other volumes have american and sub par brit bands. This cd more or less has almost all of those 3 sets but, in a random chaotic order thats not as well laid out as the orgional lps. Lucky for you if you wish to get the origional LPs amazon carries them!! But, if you just want to check out what the heck was all that fuss over oi and street punk of the eighties and don't want to spend much then grab this double CD set and pogo all night long!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This is probably the best warped comp. out there to date. I got this cd about a year ago and i still listen to it all the time.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Finish
I love this Cd.It's one of my top 10 favorite CDs in my collection of over 600.Every song is great, and i think i'll always own this CD.The reason i entitled this review "A Perfect Finish" is because this is the last decent Warped Tour comp that has been released to date, and none will ever top it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just buy Hardest Hits [BOX SET] [IMPORT] for volumes 3-5 cheap!!!
Hardest Hits [BOX SET] [IMPORT] has volumes 3-5 at less than 25 bux here on amazon, so all you have to do is hunt down volume 2 (disc 1 was pulled off the market due to licensing reasons).Odd name for this SPG series, but I assume they mean Hardest to find on CD hits...almost entirely made up of 12" versions this is a series that will help you get rid of a load of 12" singles-and introduce you to some new wave tracks you may have missed out on back in the 80s. Track times on this volume:
4-0 out of 5 stars Livin' in the 80's
If you want a cd that has rare songs on it, buy this one. There are songs on this cd that you will think you are hearing for the first time but, you will hear a song and say or think "wow, I've heard this before and I love this song". The tracks I like on the cd are; track #4, You Move Me (One Good Reason) by The Comsat Angels, track #9, Dance With Me (Extended Version) by Lords of the New Church, track #13, New York (Dance Floor Cut) by Micro Chip League, and track #14, Transdance by Night Moves. All of these songs are pretty much extended versions, and are all from the 80's. I also purchased Volumes 4 and 5 but do not have Volume 2 (limited availability), Volume 1 for some reason is not produced anymore, would love to have volumes 1 and 2 (Oh well, tomorrow's another day). The prices are very nice for this collection so go ahead and splurge and buy the three volumes that are available, you also might want to think about buying a similar collection called 'Classic Alternatives', containing more hard to find and rare alternative (and extended dance/alternative) songs. Happy Listening. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Delightful Jamaican Beats
This is a delightful compilation of the best of early to mid-60s Jamaican beats, with most of the big names like Desmond "It Mek" Dekker, Jimmy Cliff, Roland Alphonso, The Pioneers and The Ethiopians. This music inspired the glorious Two Tone revival in the UK at the beginning of the 80s, with great bands like The Selecter, Madness and others launching their careers by way of tribute to these original Jamaican artists. My favorites include Dave & Ansel Collins' organ-driven "Double Barrel" (although it dates from 1971), The Skatalites' "Guns of Navarone" that kicks off in a volley of guns, the soulful "Shanty Town' by Desmond Dekker and the equally subtle and soulful "Train to Skaville" by The Ethiopians. Other classics included here are "The Return of Django", "Phoenix City", "Rudy, a message to you" and the evergreen "Carry Go Bring home' that I think was also covered by Millie who sang "My Boy Lollipop." This is really tuneful, joyous music from an era before reggae became "heavy" with the likes of Peter Tosh and Bob Marley.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good CD
This CD has a nice bunch of different Ska songs. It gives the listener a chance to hear several different groups. All are really good songs that make you feel (as a previous reviewer put it) happy.Definitely worthbuying.

5-0 out of 5 stars There isn't a better way to spend $14.
I just got this CD a few weeks ago, and I think it is great. These charities are very deserving of the money.I am a little disappointed that only 3 others have reviewed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great cd, with great heart, for a great cause....
After losing both my parents to cancer in 2002 & 2003 (Breast for my mom and Leukemia for my dad) I have made it my personal goal to do what ever I can to support finding a cure for cancer.I do the charity walks, were the ribbons, and am conscious about my purchases when they are benefiting this cause. This is why I gave this cd 5 stars. Not only is the music awesome, but it feels great to know that it is reaching beyond my own ears. Most of the other compilations out there supporting this cause are more mellow and mostly ballads (which are great and I also own), this cd is for the love of rock.I plan to buy more for Christmas gifts.Coincidently this cd is for the "younger" crowd and spreading the word to that crowd is key because you can not be "too young" to develop cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars worth every cent
everyone should own this comp because A) proceeds benefit various cancer organizations and B) the bands are awesome. All of the acoustic tracks, whether is be Staylight Run/TBS/Motion City Soundtrack etc., are worth the 11$ are their own. Also, i think comps. give people the opportunity to hear some bands they may never find on their own (like Murder By Death).Overall this cd is an excellent buy and worth ever cent. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
I love this Cd i think it is brilliant. I can't believe I am hearing anything negetive at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars STELLAR PERFORMANCES BY ALL
At the time I bought this I didn't know all the artist but made a apoint to and you should to. Other reviews have been negtive but I find no merit in their words. Even if the musicians played note for note Genesis(they didn't) this CD has the benefit of better sound production than the org. Yes I have the org. ATCO releases plus the artist all have better voices than PG and PC (Love them though)! The fact is that for the most part all do renewed versions beautifully. As others said some of the standouts are Kevin Gilbert,Enchant,Magellan,Cairo. Get this and check out all the wounderful artist own bands Shadow Gallery etc.Pick up Magna Carta's tribute to Rush also. Progressive Rock Lives today.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay, so what's the point?
I played drums on Over The Garden Wall's version of Firth Of Fifth.I agree that there is no point in releasing a CD of cover songs that are pretty much identical to the original, but let me explain. We were a bonafide Genesis Tribute Band!We prided ourselves on our ability to entertain people and make them feel that they were actually seeing and hearing the Genesis from the past. When we were asked to contribute to this CD, we literally had to record and mix the song in ONE day with 2 or 3 takes, and NO click track. We did not have any time to work out a clever arrangement or approach. Looking back on it now, we probably should have just said, "Why bother?" but we figured that this CD would help us get more gigs.

4-0 out of 5 stars The only review you need
Wtf are you guys complaining about? This CD is basically cover songs that try to sound as much like the originals using the bands instruments. These bands are by no means punk. Most of the songs I heard were pretty good considering how close they sounded to the originals. If you bought this CD expecting punk songs mind you the title then I think it's time you end yourself now.

2-0 out of 5 stars pop pretending to be punk goes pop
I was not impressed with this CD. Sadly, most of the covers sound quite a bit like the original. If you are looking for a good punk CD, I do not recommend this one. Most of the bands in my opinion are not very good anyway. If you do, unfortunatly, like some of them, you may want to check this CD out. And may god have mercy on your soul.5-0 out of 5 stars the best of both worlds
This is an AWESOME compilation!!!Not only do I love punk and emo but my first love was pop (I know, it's embarrassing to admit)!!!I especially love Yellowcard's version of "Everywhere" by Michelle Branch and The Starting Line's version of "I'm Real" by J.Lo.And dare I admit, I even love Further Seems Forever's take on "Bye Bye Bye"!!!It's a really awesome album for anyone who equally loves hardcore and top 40!!!I thoroughly recommend it!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars the most self respecting compilation this year
There is new material, or unreleased/live material from every band on this compilation, and seeing as how it has delivered bands like Alkaline Trio Thursday Hot Water Music Boy Sets Fire etc, it deserves some recognition.Simply buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I like it.I like it a lot.
This really is one of my favorite cd's. So much diverstiy and good music on one cd - it's quite novel. There's like 2 songs that I'm not sure how the eff they got on here (like the zero zero song - it's too techno-ish for me) but the rest of the cd makes up for the not as great songs. It's one of those cds you throw in your car when you haveta drive far (man - that rhymed) and don't want to worry about changing the music.Every song is at least listen-to-able if not extremely awesome. The best in my opinion?Boy Sets Fire, At the Drive-in, Thursday, Good Riddance, AFI, Thrice (some of my favorite bands, the songs on here are a good representation of their music). The let downs? OK, actually I'm fully in love with most of the cd.I think they throw in the few not as good songs to keep it from god-level or people like me might start worshipping the cd (well maybe not...).It's a good buy.Really.I wouldn't lie to you.Buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you like-a-tha sub city...
I've grown a great respesct for Sub City as of late... they're one of the few record labels out there that aren't about just making muisc.making music is great, but making it with a purpose is even better. If you thought you'd get a better circle of musicians together, you were wrong when you bought this comp. It's not the BEST Sub City take action comp, but it features so many good bands that if you never heard the original Take Action compilation you'd have thought so.This compilation single-handedly turned me back to punk rock, and even though it's a little poppier than my original punk tastes, it gave me a broader view of what good punk can be.And this is good punk rock. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Just Can't Get Enough - vol. 6
As a person who spent their formative years through the eighties, I collect music from that era.To those who didn't live it, it would be less geeky to collect stamps or wheat pennies. But I tell you, the confectionsfound on this series is purely delightful. It is the songs many of us grewup with.We cranked up the radio in our big, gas guzzling cars and cruisedthe strip to this music.Sure, the "preps" were listening toMichael Jackson and Madonna, while the "burn-outs" were listeningto AC/DC and still going off in shop class about Van Halen using keyboardsin their music. But those of us somewhere in between listened to THIS.Weknew The Cure and REM were musical geniuses.Of course, we also thoughtthe same about Kajagoogoo and Bow Wow Wow, but hey...we still love to hearthem and remember some of our finer days.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The birth of alternative rock
MTV's "120 Minutes" was one of the best and longest running shows on the now disgraced channel. This record is a good sample of what you heard on that program back in the late 80s and early 90s. If you ever wondered about the origins of alternative rock, this is a must. It covers all the basic genres. From new wave (Joy Division) to industrial (Ministry). I remember when I had this originally on tape. Side one ended with "The Killing Moon". What a great intermission!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Alternative Compilation
I first owned this album years ago and have looked for it used for a long time (since it was stolen in college). This CD introduced me to thr Ramones, Husker Du, and the Sugar Cubes. It also reinforced the fact that liking Ministry and Morrissey can coexist. The only song on here I skipped over on repeated listenings was the Faith No More Song, but that is just personal preferrence.Great CD!

....ok ok I love fat comps....but this one is not the greatest....yeah I know the NOFX song is so great and the closed track from wizo and even mfatgg but that's it..this album has some nice unreleased songs from no use for a name and good riddance but after that starts a boring environment....I think it needed some propagandhi stuff......or something.....but don't get mad....this album is quite greater than the first edition....ok ok that's not true.....the other fat comps .are great...go buy one fellas....thy re pretty cheap just like you....

5-0 out of 5 stars Brent's idea of a great compilation
Anyone who remotely likes punk rock should definately buy this extremely good cd right now. It opens with an awesome song by Lagwagon, then Mad Caddies and No Use For Name. The Ataris kick some a** in the middle, and NOFX, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes and Wizo close it on a very positve note. I hope you enjoy, I mean i know you'll enjoy this spectacular punk rock compilation.

2-0 out of 5 stars Totally uneven
In my opinion, NOFX, Screeching Weasel, and Wizo are way too good for this compilation. Only like the last 5 songs are interesting on this cd. If you are fans of the bands I've listed, just buy their albums and skip the rest of this. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars my favorite comp. of all time
it just doesnt get any better.... every single song is amazing especially olive me, ultimate devotion, cool kids, stand and the 2 snuff songs

4-0 out of 5 stars Fat III - more of the good stuff
Yup, just that.NOFX "Olive Me" - good.Read about it in the other reviews.Snuff's second song on the disc - well I'm sure it be great to hear them play it in a club, but it detracts from this disc.Lagwagon's "Raise a Family" - well worth the time to listen to over and over again.5-0 out of 5 stars Best Compilation Ever!!!!
This is by far the best compilation I have ever heard. It beats the pants off the Warped Tour compilations which have like 5 good songs out of 50. There is so much great music on here I don't skip anything. The best song on here is Hi-Standards song. It's fast, fun, and completely hilarious. Olive Me from Nofx is a decent song, but not their best. Stand is my favorite Good Riddance song. Snuff's first song is pretty good, I like it alot. Strung Out could've done better and so could've Screw 32 and Propaghandi, but The Goober Patrol, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Screeching Weasel, Tilt, Bracket, and Lagwagon are on the top of their game. The Swingin Utters, the Dickies, and 88 Fingers Louie are definitely capable of better but they are still good songs. NUFAN's song is the worst song on the album. I just don't like it much. And I don't understand why the second Snuff song is on the album. This album should've ended with the Gimme Gimmes but for some reason they added another Snuff song which is pretty mediocre. Anyway just get this album. It is a good intro to alot of great bands. It also has some of the bands best songs. Its only four bucks, so what are you waiting for? The Hi-Standard song is alone worth the price. Buy it! Its fantastic. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nostalgic Memories
The best song on this album is "Fish" by Throwing Muses, from which the title of this moody, angst-ridden gets its name "Lonely is as lonely does. Lonely is an eyesore." I used to listen to this when I was 19,in 1993,wanting to be goth, writing bad poetry, and this seemed like the soundtrack to my life. It's a good mix of dark (Clan of Xymox, Dead can Dance) and light (Throwing Muses, Cocteau Twins).

3-0 out of 5 stars Essential for 4AD collectors, but the music's dull
LONELY IS AN EYESORE was a concept of the influential music label 4AD. In 1987 label chief Ivo Watts-Russell wanted give the world a view of their current output, wrapped up in superb design by 23 Envelope, the partnership of Vaughan Oliver, the greatest British designer of the past 20 years, and photographer Nigel Grierson. There were at least three versions, a limited edition wooden box of only 100 copies (occasionally auctioned off and snatched up by art museums, always fetching a couple of thousand dollars), an LP, and this CD. While this was a key event in the history of 4AD, the LONELY IS AN EYESORE compact disc will disappoint anyone who isn't a hardcore fan of this the world's greatest music label.5-0 out of 5 stars CLASSIC ALTERNATIVE
My first taste of Alternative Music when this album came out and the damage had been done, there was no turning back. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Down At The Rock-N-Roll Club...
Of all the punk comps floating around out there (there are zillions - buyer beware), this is one of the absolute best, documenting one of the more vital up-from-the-underground DIY scenes with crystalline precision.
4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun!
Okay, if you're a fan of punk and new wave, you've probably got at least 6or 7 of the 19 songs here scattered around your collection already, onBlondie, Ramones, and Television records. But if you're like me and havenever heard the Dictators, the Heartbreakers, and several of the otherless-famous bands here, you're in for a treat. And Patti Smith, who neverappealed to me much, comes across well in the context of like-minded bands.5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Brilliant
The score card: 13 songs, 10 groups, 5 chords, 0 notes on key.But it's hard to imagine anything more visceral, fun, and rebellious. The thing you get most here is the humour: "Born to Lose" and "Sheena is aPunk Rocker" are good examples. Some say the English dropped the bombthat shook up rock and roll, but I believe the Ramones and Television(being one of the prime movers of U2) are every bit as important.Afterall, it was the American record scene that was most bloated, and hence mostneeded the kick.Sure, there are omissions (Talking Heads?) but theremaining give a pretty fair assessment of New York Punk."BlankGeneration" indeed! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Long time listener, frist time reviewer...
I bought this CD when it first came out for the sole reason that it had a remake of Gremmie Out of Control, originally by the Silly Surfers (see: Big Daddy Roth).I've been listening to it a lot lately, and now I think I might have to get the rest of the series.Highly recomended for fans of the water.

4-0 out of 5 stars enthusiastic good-will project
A musical compilation of 23 mostly surf-related tracks being sold to save the world's oceans. This features an atypically cheery Pearl Jam, a typically rambunctious Ramones singing California Sun, a great goof-off by the Beastie Boys, and some blissed-out island haze from Porno for Pyros. Primus gurgles out a wacky and writhing Mr. Know It All from "somewhere on tour, Jewel softly coos Quiet Warrior, Silverchair fend admirably with the foolish turbo thrust of Surfin' Bird, No Doubt leaves no stone unturned on the revelrous Sailin' On, and the classic Wipeout is given a good run by Gary Hoey with Donavon Frankenreiter.4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but alot of the songs are to slow
This is a good comp.Blink 182's Waggy is the best song on it, Sprung Monkey and Everclear have good songs too. There is some good remakes too, like Pennywise doing Surfin' USA.This is good but too many slow songs. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Well Done Deathrock Sampler
Overall this comp. put out by Fiend Force records in Germany isn't too shabby. Due to the fact that their are some real class acts that have been rockin' and roll'in for years. Learning their lessons, paying their dues, and striving for a sound of their own. Such as Nekromantix and Mad Sin (which last time I checked are both Psychobilly and not "horror-punk"). The bad side of this disc stems from the inclusion of new-school pop-punk deathrock wanna'be stars such as Blitzkid. Their sound is just not well suited to stand by the likes of say Bobby Steele's Undead or the aformentioned kings of psychobilly. Overall not too bad a disc tho. ... Read more
