5-0 out of 5 stars WORTH TWICE THE ASKING PRICE
Worth twice the asking price just for Nik Kershaw's Wouldn't It Be Good!! Rest of the tracks are "vintage" 80s' also. The whole Just Can't Get Enough series is a must for 80s' music fans. Absolutely no clunkers!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Gotta have if you're an 80's fan!
Got a good mix of old favorites (Relax, Cruel Summer) and some not-so-easy-to-find gems like Whisper To A Scream.I love this cd!

4-0 out of 5 stars best singular '80s compilation out there
While this compilation manages to have unappealing tracks("Girls", "Free Nelson Mandela"), there are some reallynice songs on here."Hold Me Now" and "Cruel Summer"are really great songs to commute to, and "The Stand" is apowerful and anthemic delight."Wouldn't It Be Good" isdelectable and "Whisper to a Scream" is a rare gem. This is amust buy for anyone wanting an '80s compilation that doesn't contain theusual hackneyed "hitsapalooza".I even liked "Hero Takes aFall" and I never knew I could like a Bangles song! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars good stuff
this is a good cd, especially the songs by taking back sunday and yellowcard.Yellowcard's "Powder" is one of their best songs.it is amazing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Run out and buy it ... I AM!!!
My friend just bought this CD (and volumes 1 and 3 too) and it's AWESOME!!!It's a 2-CD set and we both prefer the second CD to the first (although that one's good too)!!!The highlights have to be "Powder" by Yellowcard and "Up to Me" by Movielife!!!It's awesome and there are tons of songs!!!If you like this one, I would recommend you to check out volumes 1 and 3 also ... they rock just as hard!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Compilation
Wow. This is one of the best compilations that I have right now. There are a few songs on the first disk that I don't like, Poison the Well, Avenged Sevenfold, Snapcase, etc, but the entire second disk is amazing. Some of my favorites are Yellowcard, The Amazing Transparent Man, Tsunami Bomb, The Plus Ones, etc. I definately reccomend this CD. It is for a great cause as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Muito bom !!!
Como eu gosto muito de musica gotica, sou suspeita..
2-0 out of 5 stars classy goth type stuff.
the music can be explained and defined pretty much as the title itself just think of "classic". I assumed the music was going to be very club material that has a history of songs being played after the years by clubs.. a large portion of the cd i cannot see it as a gothic "club" material esspecially throwing in some type-o.. i been through alot of clubs and i cannot find a way to hit that song in the dance floor.. if not i guess i have been in the wrong places.. it looks to me they ran out of ideas and threw in some mainstream that everyone listens to so they wouldi was very dissapointed in the whole cd. listened to a few songs here and there, if you are into the old stuff then this is the stuff for you.. i really dont recomend this cd to any collection besides you want to be blasted in the past..

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad....Not Bad At All!
Having left my Gothic Club mix CD at home, I decided to buy this one. What hooked me first was the live recording of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus, which is classic Goth music. Some of the bands I liked, some I didn't, but all in all this is a great CD. My favorite is "Sheryl" on the second CD. This is a great CD for chilling, dancing, or showing the uneducated masses what Goth music really is. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars On a Need to Know Basis
This CD must be on a "need to know basis" because I sure don't get it. I do not understand the mission of David Arnold's James Bond Project. I do not understand the point of the music. There's a lot of sound, some noise, some melody and I can't even describe the rest. How could this CD come from the same person who composed the scores for TOMORROW NEVER DIES, THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH and DIE ANOTHER DAY ? I hope his score for CASINO ROYALE (2006) will be good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Shaken and Satisfied!
When I first heard this CD a long time ago in a galaxy far far away... I knew I was destined to purchase it. The Composistion from David Arnold is fantastic! Whenever I play the CD in my quality Personal Computer I realize how much I enjoy this music. If you need to relax, if your in the mood for adventure, if you have a vehicle with a CD player and a long stretch of road to cruise down, then listening to this music is a must. Go Bond GO! Thumbs up to David Arnold and his crew. Great product!

2-0 out of 5 stars I'm Speechless ..
.. but I'll try to make a few, and I mean a few, comments. I bought this CD solely for the updated version of "Wichita Lineman" with Glen Campbell, Michelle Shocked, and the Texas Tornados (Freddy Fender). Now I know why it was listed for $4.99 and the used CD I received was virtually brand new. Because I can see this first time I listened to the CD will be just like that of the previous owners' -- the LAST!
4-0 out of 5 stars It's a fun, interesting CD
I listen to this CD occasionally, and I always enjoy it. The songs are quirky, given who the performers are. I think this CD took the whole Palooza thing to its rightful conclusion.

4-0 out of 5 stars Whatever
This is a pretty fun CD featuring contemporary performers paying tribute to lounge music.Although some of the tracks feature older performers like Steve and Eydie. In fact, Steve and Eydie's lounge-ish version of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" is the best track here (it's a hoot!).I also enjoyed most of the other tracks, which mostly feature modern artists doing songs associated with the lounge era.Not all of them work, but a high percentage of them do.Fans of the lounge music revival should enjoy this CD. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A large quantity of quality ska.
This really is a great deal. It's 4 16-track discs of killer ska from some classic bands, and at a good price. This is the real deal too, it's not what passes for ska today (Reel Big Fish), but the good stuff from the 70's and 80's. It's the best collection I've seen since the "Max The Dog Says, Do The Ska" album. If you're into groups like "Judge Dread", "The Hotknives", "The Riffs", "Natural Rhythm", and "Bad Manners", then this set was made for you. Also, one of the discs is all live.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
This is the best collection I've seen too lock in a strong collection of 2nd Wave Ska. It's all strong stuff. The draw back is if you alreadly own a lot of varity Ska CD's your going to get a LOT of duplication. I figure Ialreadly have 1/3 to 1/2 the tracks on this collection in other Ska CD suchas Ska-ville UK, SKAndalous, Dance Craze, Ska Down with Her and Runin Nakedthru the Cornfield. Not to mention the orginal albums. But at the price whocan knock 64 tracks and close to 4 hours of skanking Ska. This is your bestbuy if your new to Ska and not a bad buy if your a serious collector. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one of my 'desert island' discs
I'm a huge Willie Nelson fan and I love all sorts of music so this was a real treat.I bought it when it came out about a thousand years ago and it was money well spent. When I pull it out of the case, and listen to it, it never disapoints. If you get a chance to pick it up for $5 do it.You won't regret it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
I am a huge Willie Nelson fan so I bought this cd not knowing what to expect; alternative artists doing Willie Nelson songs, i thought to myself, "What do these artist really know about Willie Nelson besides that fact that everyone has heard on the road again?" Well even if they dont know much about him, they do a good job covering his songs. The cd starts out with this powerful electric guitar riff breaking into a great rendition of Time of the preacher; Johnny Cash on vocals does the song lots of justice. L7 does a good job making Three Days pretty heavy. The rockabilly version of Shotgun Willie is one of the jewels of this disk and Tenderloin does a remarkable job. When Jerry Cantrell preforms I've seen all the world I care to See, you can hear a sencerity in his voice that put you in a mood that Willie must have been in when he wrote the lyrics. One of the original outlaws Waylon Jennings almost makes I never cared for You, his own with his unmistakable voice. Angel flying too close to the Ground is very bizarre and as much as i like Kris Kristofferson, i have never listened to it all the way thru. The worst song, which happens to be a great song by Willie, is Still is still moving to me by Jello Biafra. Just like everything that involves Jello, the band is good, but he has such a horrible voice it makes it unlistenable as his voice sounds like Katherine Hepburns'. All in all this is a good cd and i would recommend giving it a listen.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Great I bought it twice!
I had this CD when it first came out years ago, and then lost it. I looked everywhere...even online file sharing, and could not find it anywhere. Enter Amazon.com! This is one of the best CD's ever!!! Everyone recognizes Willie's vocal style, but with this album, you really get a feel for his writing style too. This album is out of print and will be very collectable...so buy it while you can! My fav songs: L7, Presidents of the USA, and Jesse Dayton. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Where is the rest of the OXO album?
Amazing no one ever make any attempt to release the original OXO album. The whole LP was full of great pop songs which made dance a generation in the early 80s in Mar del Plata, Argentina Every DJ in town had a copy of the album. Despite their hit "Whirly Girl", "You make it sound so easy" and "I'll take you back" were on top. Please Rhino help us out!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars I think the Tubes would be embarrassed to be included here
I doubt the Tubes would want their song "She's a Beauty" lumped together in this package of songs. But you gotta love having access to a copy of OXO's "Whirly Girl".Geez, I can remember buyingthat album when it was first released in the early 80's!Great song!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hurried Home Too Early
Warren Zevon had more to give. This (2nd?) album of his songs done by other artists is testimony to that fact. It is good that
5-0 out of 5 stars I predict this motel will be standing ...
Awwww, it's very, very good.To me it rates comparison with two other tribute albums, "The World's a Wonderful Place" for Richard Thompson and "I'm Your Fan" for Leonard Cohen. All 3 present tributes from lesser-known artists (Roughly Enforcing Nostalgia, anyone?) that somehow shine a little brighter than the tributes from bigger names on "Enjoy Every Sandwich", "Beat the Retreat" and "Tower of Song" - which are all worthy in their own right.
5-0 out of 5 stars A worthy tribute album
This is the third Zevon tribute album. The first, "Dad, Get Me Out of This: String Quartet Tribute to Warren Zevon" (Vitamin Records, 2003), had its moments but cannot escape being typecast as a novelty item. In 2004 came "Enjoy Every Sandwich: The Songs of Warren Zevon", issued by Zevon's latter-stage record label, Artemis. Featuring the heavyweight presence of icons such as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt, David Lindley and Ry Cooder, and Don Henley, as well as relatively newer artists like Pete Yorn, Steve Earle, The Wallflowers, Jill Sobule, the Pixies, Adam Sandler (doing a fine and faithful version of "Werewolves of London"), and Warren's son Jordan Zevon (who stands out from the rest with his soulful interpretation of his father's unreleased gem "Studebaker"), this record is about as good a tribute as one could ever hope for. There are also two versions of Warren's sentimental swan song "Keep Me in Your Heart", one performed by his good friend and sideman Jorge Calderon (backed by Jennifer Warnes), the other an instrumental rendition by Van Dyke Parks. Perhaps the album's only miscue is the whispered rendition of "The Wind" by Zevon friend (and fellow OCD sufferer) Billy Bob Thornton.

3-0 out of 5 stars WOW!Was "Mickey" a GREAT song, or what?!
Nope, in fact it was one of the songs that I hated the first time I heard it and can still gather up a load of revulsion for today. The oddball tune that drags this collection up to the .500 line is Pete Shelley's "Homo Sapien".Funny, catchy and just plain clever, but I worry about Pete.Other than that volume 5 barely trips the meter.Welcome to the middle of the new wave road.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nearly Quintessential...Nearly
My biggest complaint about this particular album is the inclusion of"Hold onto Something" by Great Buildings. Many of these songs define my days in high school, but for the life of me I can't remember ever hearing of this band. However, I do remember hearing this song...or one very much like it -- Joe Jackson's incredibly popular song titled, "I'm the Man," from his album, "I'm the Man" (1979), which was hugely popular through the early eighties. 5-0 out of 5 stars Those Were The Days-- Great New Wave Collection!
The best entry in Rhino's awesome "New Wave Hits" series.(Volume 1 which covers the late 70's is also excellent). All 16 songs are culled from 1982 which was indeed a very good year for pop music. Haircut One Hundred's "Love Plus One" and Flock of Seagulls' "I Ran" were anthems of the(then) young MTV Generation. These quirky video darlings raged like a hurricane of fresh air in the face of bland corporate schlock which hogged the airwaves. Songs like the Go Go's "Vacation" and Tommy Tutone's "867-5309" were not only pure fun-- they were also well-crafted 3-minute pop gems. In fact, nearly every tune on volume 5 is cut from the same intelligent pop mold. Other standouts from this set include the vastly underrated Marshall Crenshaw's "Someday Someway", The Jam's "A Town Called Malice" and Soft Cell's absurdly humorous "Sex Dwarf". The only weak cuts are Gang of Four's "Man in Uniform" and the truly horrible "Art of Parties" by Japan. Overall, this is a fantastic collection which harkens back to a truly innovative time in pop music-- abrief time when catchy Hit Singles ruled and all possibilities seemed endless. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I still haven't reviewed this?...hmm...I will now
1.)TLC:No Scrubs- A I love this song!!!
4-0 out of 5 stars A Stable Collection Of Hits!
The first Totally Hits features a lot of top hits from superstar artists. I think is as good if not better than Now 3. TLC has the first track and they deserve it. No Scrubs was a huge, mega hit! That song is more popular than their record-breaking album! I also liked the slow Angel of Mine. This is Monica's best song and it is my second favorite song on this cd! Sugar Ray's Someday was a hit that doeen't make any since. It is slow and they sound like they're bored. Other bad tracks are Kid Rock's Bawitawba(I don't think I spelled that write),Santana's Smooth,NSYNC's A Little More Time On You, and 5ive's song. But I do like Cher,Whitney Houston,Madonna,Brandy,Usher,Deborah Cox,Faith Hill, and Barenaked Ladies. If you like R&B,slow pop,and little bit of rock you will love this cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Collection
A good collection of the hits of 98-99. I was especially surprised at the inclusion of "Angel" and "This Kiss" (in a good way). I was impressed with the variety of music. Deborah Cox, Faith Hill, Madonna, Whitney, and McLachlan kinda steal the show, but not to any large degree, which is another big surprise. I was very happy to find no out of place "non-hits." a good collection for a good year. ... Read more

Lagwagon is awsome to, BUY THIS CD MAN

4-0 out of 5 stars Fat is good.
Good collection.Remake of "California Dreamin'" not as good as I'd hoped it be (really like the original Momma's and Poppa's) but "Country Roads" just kicks it.Thinking of buying stock in Fat Wreck Chords.

Chances are you've heard them on the full length CDs from each band on here. There are a few exclusives though.Check out the song "Vincent" by NOFX...probably my all time favorite NOFX song! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best 'Boot
Of the Give 'Em The Boot albums this is simply the best and certainly one of the best punk samplers ever.It is a great mix of crusty punk and ska.It showcases the best bands that Epitaph has to offer. This is a must have for any punk or ska fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST SKA/PUNK SAMPLER OUT THERE (vol. 2)
OK, no one's done a track-by-track review yet, so here goes:5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Mix
This is my favorite out of the Give Em the Boot series. I think it's the perfect mix of punk and ska, and the track selections were excellent. It's one of my favorite compilations to listen to on the road. There isn't a song on it that a generally skip, which says a lot for a compilation cd. There is great variety, but every song is good. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Mad, Bad, & Dangerous to Know
I'm no expert when it comes to Brazilian music, but I've picked up a few Brazil-oriented CDs over the years, most recently the soundtracks to "City of God" and "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou" (featuring those great Bowie covers by actor/musician Seu Jorge, aka "Knockout Ned"). This CD doesn't remind me of those releases--or of the music of Caetano Veloso, Os Mutantes, or even Sepultura. Some of the (non-Brazilian) names other writers have mentioned include Gang of Four, Bauhaus, and LiliPUT. I agree. This is the darker end of the post-punk spectrum. Not goth per se, but these folks do sound mad in a Pop Group--as opposed to a Sex Pistols--kind of way. For more Brazilian post-punk, see the Soul Jazz compilation, "The Sexual Life of the Savages."

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing music. Not only for punk funk fans.
Who would have thought that there was such amazing No Wave, post punk, and odd Devo influenced electro-rock going on in Brazil from 1982-88?? That's what this is, a collection of some obscure art rock, no wave and odd pop from Brazil during the mid-80s. I'd say these bands are more new wave than no wave but that might be splitting hairs. The influences are wide including more standard new wave, like Gary Numan and Devo and even some psychedelic sounds. Unlike a lot of American No Wave the funk and reggae influences are no there. Instead you'll find some Trapacalia influence (track 2 could be a Tom Ze track) and some sounds like that of XTC.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent post punk CD.
When you thought you heard it all in post punk, comes this CD compilation with impossible to find post punk from Brazil. Yes, they had their very own post punk scene down there, that incorporated what happened in New York, Berlin and London during the early Eighties. Mixing the styles from the North with their very own Brazilian music elements, bands such as AKT, Agentss, Black Future created the most exciting form of post punkl. Imagine Joy Division with batucada beats, A Flock Of Seagulls with a samba feeling - all to be heard of Nao Wave. A true musical revelation. I love it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lover's of Tom Waits, Many!
For those that have not liked this CD, that's just fine, in the Tom Waits tradition, you don't need to. Every Tom Waits offering, whether by himeself, or by others that love his diversity of work, never, yes, never, has indifferent devotees, or even middle of the road critics. One usually either loves his work or they do not. Yet, and this is unique with criticisms of artists, one may love and hate pieces on the same CD of Tom Waits. This, I believe, is why he is an Artist, one of his own making, and not either by you and me, the buying public, or the music industry. This, I believe, takes courage, and is one of the reasons that his work endures when most others only enjoy the popularity that the industry, the owners of most musicians and artists, will give them. I applaud Tom Waits for being who and what he chooses, not what I, you, or the business world might want him to be. This is why these artists offering of Tom's art is worthwhile. They offer his work in their interpretation. If you don't like all of it, big deal. You belong to a big club, those that love Tom Waits' art, but sometimes do not.
5-0 out of 5 stars gets better with a little time
Tom himself is weird, so it's actually appropriate that some of these covers sound a little strange at first. After listening to this album a few times, though, it starts to make sense. In fact, if you keep listening, it begins to make a lot of sense.I actually listened to it so much that my roommate banned it when he was in the room, which illustrates both aspects of this album: it is a little weird, but quite addictive if you take the time to listen carefully.5-0 out of 5 stars Unusual, but great
Ever since '96 this has been one of my favourite CDs. Yes, I am a devout Tom Waits fan and I understand it may hurt to hear his songs that distorted. But I have never heard a sadder "Ruby's Arms" (Frente!), a more chilling "Jersey Girl" (Pale Saints) or a faster "Old Shoes" (Drugstore). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Tributation?
Astralasia shines on this LP.Any fan of Madonna would SAVOR and SALIVATE over this collection of "tributes".It's pure fun to hear these artists record these songs. What great fun to critique and poke fun as needed. This isn't rocket science, but even some of Madonna's rather bland tracks: "Swim" and "Live To Tell" are brought home.Another shiner is "Frozen".Applause to Cleopatra Records. Clap. Clap. Clap. Clap....(fade)

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite Madonna tribute album
I personally love Cleopatra Records' tribute albums, let alone goth and industrial music. And being a big Madonna fan, I thought the idea of synth-pop, goth, and industrial artists/bands covering Madonna's songs were a wicked idea. Normally I'm not wild on tribute albums, especially nowadays when even Britney Spears and NSYNC have tribute albums out (i.e a bunch of unknown singers covering bad pop music). Personally I prefer the second volume of "Virgin Voices". Still the first album had some first rate cover songs. One of my particular favorites is Loleatta Holloway's cover of "Like a Prayer". She turns the pop song into a house classic. I didn't realize until later on that this tribute album would be my first introduction to one of my favorte pop/rock artists Amanda Ghost. I'm not wild on "Bad Girl" as a song but Amanda's contributions to the song was enjoyable enough for me. I thought KMFDM and Front Line Assembly did an excellent job of giving the listener an earful on their versions of "Material Girl" and "Justify My Love". Their abrasive, industrial beats allowed them to turn Madonna's songs into their own. I can't say that I like "Like a Virgin" as a song nor did I like the version that Bow Wow Wow singer Annabella Lwin did. Being a big Dead or Alive fan, I loved their version of "Why It's So Hard". That isn't really one of my favorite Madonna songs but they way they covered the song made me appreciate the song even more so. The only other miss I found on this album was the "Burning Up" [Interface Mix] by The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black. I'm not really familiar with the song itself nor did I enjoy the TVHKB's version. Other than that and "Like a Virgin", I loved what the artists and bands brought to the table with their renditions of classic Madonna songs. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great compilation for everything Alternative
Firstly, I was lucky to pick up this CD (a rare find) for a good price. I didn't have to hear to buy it, as I had heard 12 of the 18 numbers. It contains a good line-up of artists from the Brit-alt rock scene and American Alt as well. Most American Alternative CDs have few British bands listed, this is an exception. Starting off with the smash, Walkin on the Sun by Smashmouth, followed by Elastica's Connection and some cool trip-hop by England's Portishead on Sour Times, the CD is a must-buy. Liverpool's Space comes out with mod lyrics on Female of the Species, and the popular Lovefool by Cardigans to Common People by Pulp, the CD then does justice to popular American songs, some ska such as Here in your Bedroom by Goldfinger and Sell Out by Reel Big Fish. So there you have it! A great CD that samples all the Alternative styles for a nice price. Just Buy it! ... Read more
