3-0 out of 5 stars Angel Delivered!
I bought this CD because it has the original 1983 version of Real Life's "Send Me An Angel" which I couldn't find anywhere else.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money for "Just Got Lucky" and "Emotion"
Volume 11 of the New Wave Dance Hits series is an excellent collection of great 80's rock mixing some of the biggest new wave hits with other lesser known but still strong tracks. The tracks "99 Luftballons", "True", "Talking In Your Sleep", and "One Thing Leads To Another" were all Top 5 singles in the early 80's. Of these tracks, only "One Thing..." has stood the test of time as it still gets regular airplay on modern rock radio. 5-0 out of 5 stars VERY Shiny
It automatically gets 5 stars just for including Haysi Fantayzee! It never leaves my carousel, except maybe for a trip on the subway in my discman. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars To Ally
The reason why the singer on Element 101's cover of "I'm Like A Bird" sounds like a girl is because it is a girl. They had/have (not sure if they're still recording) a female lead singer through most of their career. This CD is decent at best.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best but still good
I bought this cd since I l-o-v-e-d Punk Goes 80's. While there are some good songs on here (Bye,Bye,Bye ; The Way You Love Me; I Want It That Way), there are some that are just plain laughable. For example, the cover of ...Baby One More Time is just.. horrendous. And, Student Rick's Heaven Is A Place On Earth is just funny (the lead singer cannot hit those high notes). Also, the cover of I'm Like A Bird is... confusing. The lead singer sounds kinda like a girl. By NO means are ANY of the bands on this cd "punk". Seriously. Rufio is screamo/emo and so is the Starting Line, and both of those are the closest things to punk on the cd.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great cd!
I got a burned copy from my brother a few years ago and thought it was just a cd he had put together, then I found out it was a real cd! I think it's really funny because the people singing put their own twist on the songs. It's pretty funny to listen to. I enjoy it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun CD to listen to
I can't speak with authority as to the styles of music on this compilation because I don't listen to a lot of it. The only band on this CD I'm familiar with is Dropkick Murphys, but I bought it to try something different and for the most part enjoyed it. Not every song is a keeper, but most are good to listen to. I liked the Murphys song as well as the ones by Hepcat, The Business, Voodoo Glow Skulls and Swingin' Utters. There is a nice mix of punk and ska and I'm sure other styles I don't know the terminology for. It's a strong compilation and a good way to try out new bands and new musical styles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Punks Learn How To Loves Ska On This CD!
As we all know that Hellcat records is owned and runned by Lars from Rancid. Well being a punk, I know that right now, all that is considered 'punk' is either A)This main-stream crap which sucks badly or B)All these emo and hardcore/metal bands appearing in the underground right now. So being a dude waiting for some new punk band to change everything in the punk genre...they havent made it. 4-0 out of 5 stars Punks should steer clear, but SKA FANS LISTEN UP!!

5-0 out of 5 stars 99 Red balloons!
If you loved 99 Red Ballons but can't find the English language radio version that they played--this album has it.It's not a re-mix this is the original song [not to be confused with the travesty English version off Nena's album of greatest hits titled: Nena].That is the only reason I bought this 3 pack, for the one song but you know what there are some other gerat things on here as well! And finding a used copy of this makes it a STEAL!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love the 80s!

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly a classic hard-core album
This is a really decent punk rock compilation.Pretty much every song is good, top to bottom. It is cool to see some Northwest bands and some hard-to-find old school outfits from 80s such as DFL (my favorite band) and Poison Idea. This is a good mixture of music and a must buy for punk rock aficionados. Not many better compilations out there!

4-0 out of 5 stars wholsome punk rock goodness
I bought this one about 10 min after i had bought Vol. 6 sence i was driving from one record store to another. This one is pretty good, but saddly its kind of a tease today, seeing as many of the tracks are from albums that went out of print years ago. This one is probably one of the best out of the 10 Punk-O-Rama compilations so far. The only two that i would rate better would be vol. 1, and the somewhat rare and un heard of Vol. 2.1, which was a special deal at the 97 warped tour(looks the same only the moster on the cover is skateboarding, not urinating on a wall, and it has the Wapred Tour logos) 2.1 featured a slightly modified track list with stronger tracks from SNFU, Down By Law and Pennywise. Its worth the money youll spend if you ever see a copy in the used cd bin. Anyway, Punk-O-Rama 2 is a pretty good collection of punk from the 90s as well as the two 80s hardcore bands Poison Idea and DFL. If you want to sample a pretty broad spectum that is punk music, this is a good place to start, as it gives you not only some of today's vetran bands' older material, but some seriously old scool stuff too. also some of these tracks arent for those turned off by questionable subject matter...Namely the one TSOL track

5-0 out of 5 stars ahhhhhhhh this reminds me of times past.....
It was 1996, I was young and pissed off, had problems with school, parents and girlfriends. This CD came right on time. The Offspring's Smash brought the Epitaph name to my attention, so I saw this for 10 Guilders (Yes, guilders...damn the euro)and picked it up. I was not dissapointed. It was angry, loud and fast. Descendents, NOFX, Pennywise, Bad Religion.. Loved it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must and a classic
This was the first Goth compilation I ever bought - I was at a little used record place in Boston and was drawn to it. I've used it for my own compilations and as a teaching tool to learn about the Dark at Heart. Excellent choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent compilation
Im probably considered a newbie to Goth and Darkwave, but I have found this compilation to have some really interesting and good tracks from a variety of artists. Artists I have not been exposed to yet.CD 3 is my favorite with many songs I liked. I recommend this release

4-0 out of 5 stars A good starter set, not for every fledgling batling.

3-0 out of 5 stars decent cd 4 punk fans
i think punk rock is awesome. this cd has a few good punk songs but u could listen 2 a lot of it buy it u wont regret it but it is not as good as the first 5

5-0 out of 5 stars this cd got me into punk
when i looked at this cd on the cd rack, it was only 5 bucks so i bought just for the hell of it. so one day i put in that cd and i was blown away. songs like blackeye, can i borrow some ambition, bath of last resistance, true believers, coming down with me are all great. I LOVE THIS CD. ITS WORTH IT TO BUY IT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Punk-O-Rama.....Enough Said
This was the first Punk-O-Rama CD I listened to, and boy I was not dissapointed. Most of the songs on this CD are the type of punk I would listen to, Quite fast and energetic. The best song on the CD has to be either NOFX - Bath of Least Resistance (NOFX being the greatest punk band of all time, of course), or Beatsteaks - Let me in. I heard the Beatsteaks for the first time on this CD and there absolutely bloody excellent. Obviously, The Cd is made complete with songs from the Descendents, Pulley, Pennywise, Dropkick Murphy's. The only let down on this CD is Noise Conspiracy, there song on this CD, well plainly sucks i'm sorry to say. But overall this CD is one hell of a good listen if your into punk. That's all, oh yeah, buy it! bye ... Read more

I know most reviews say that this is not the best Punk O Rama volume. But I'll have to disagree. It's the best.3-0 out of 5 stars Weak effort Punk-O-Rama
This album was good and all but it just seems like they grabbed a handful of songs and threw them on a CD.The songs featured are not the best by the bands.

5-0 out of 5 stars Freaking great
This is an amazing collection of live studio music. The variety of songs and artists is wonderful, it will be hard to wear this out with such different styles of music on this cd. This station and KGSR out of Austin, Tx, do some of the best (if not the best) live compilation cd's that I know of. The bare bones version of Coldplay's Yellow is just amazingly soulful....the Dido contribution is a real surprise too, these are just two of the highlights, but the whole thing is so very good...buy, listen, and enjoy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pass on this one
Radio station in-house recordings can be hit or miss. The Mountain and others have some really great productions.I wish I had passed on this one. The selections are poor with no production quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous live (unplugged) performances from the best artists
This album (the second in the "Sounds Eclectic" series) compiles some of the best works from one of the most eclectic radio shows there is: Morning Becomes Eclectic, which airs from Santa Monica's station KCRW (also catch the streamed version of their programs at KCRW.org). It's hard to pick one of the tracks above others: all in all, the album provides an excellent sample of some of today's best acts. However, I do have some personal favorites:Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Punk at a broader view
Some of the reviews of this comp seem to be narrow minded. If you've ever listened to the other punk o ramas you'd see that this cd follows the trend though Epitaph seems to be broadening its selection slightly. This cd has most of the regulars and adds a few newbies to punkorama like Atmosphere, Eyedea, and Error.Hiphop artists like Sage Francis and Atmosphere have been traversing into the punk scene lately and it makes a lot of sense to include them in the punkoramas. All in all, this cd was pieced together very well and has a ton of good songs.Well worth it for about $5.

2-0 out of 5 stars If you actually want to listen to punk...
...don't buy this CD.Most of this is emo, and quite a bit of it is meandering and not particularly catchy. There are a few good bands on this CD--enough to merit maybe listening to it once or twice, but it's not worth your time if you're an actual punk fan.It has an interesting mix of music, but it doesn't fit together too well. The upsides to this compilation are as follows:one, the Dropkick Murphys song, and two, it's inexpensive. However, it's even less expensive to just forget about buying this CD at all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good and different, but what is rap doing on here.
I see a lot of reviewers have said that this was the 1st punk

Editorial Review

Punk rock has long been known for its short, loud, and snotty anthems, but this is taking things to extremes. None of the songs found here reaches the one-minute mark. Some are among punk's most esteemed anthems, while others are casual additions to the canon. In either case, even if you don't like one tune, well, there's another one coming in just a few seconds. This isn't the best introduction to these bands. The Descendents, for example, are punk-pop titans who and not at their best when aping the hardcore set. However, where else can you find Less Than Jake, Nerf Herder, Blink 182, Green Day, the Mr. T. Experience, Gwar, the Circle Jerks,D.O.A., Agnostic Front, and the Muffs all on one CD? There's no shortage of top-shelf names here, and more than a few surprises will keep you hopping. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Infectious!
The first listen you will be unimpressed. The second you will be intrigued. The third, you won't be able to get these 30 second songs out of your head! This CD is fun, in a decade when music takes itself way to seriously.

5-0 out of 5 stars hot shelf
Okay guys, this cd is awesome, I heard that there was a super rare vinyl pressing of this, but I mean, is that for real?Anyways, yeah you should buy this cd, it's kinda wierd saying this, but it sounds... dated.Yeah I know it's only seven years since this came back and most of this bands are still around (and putting out some lame albums) but even the bad bands seem to put some good songs on this joint! No joke.I can listen to the whole thing through and through cause it has shoit songs... I don't see why you wouldn't get it, I mean it's a classic comp, I wish there'd be more like it, you know like an updated thingee.Oh yeah the Ataris song is suprising to my liking, it's all about those lame bands that the radio STILL plays even though it's been like (oh eight or so) many years since that song was written.Blah blah blah... anyways, I think fat wreck should put out short music volume 2, I mean what is wrong with that, it must have been hell getting this together though, I don't doubt em for not doing it again...

4-0 out of 5 stars good but it leaves you wanting more...
The cd has alot of good songs, but they are not enough to get a true sense of each bands particular style. So even if you like a band's thirty seccond teaser, you may not like that band's other music. ... Read more

A passable collection of covers; some are excellent, a few totally mutilate the originals, and the remainder are mediocre imitations of Elliott.

this cd makes me miss Elliott - we lost him too soon. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent alternative rock compilation
Amazing songs from some of the best groups in recent history. This CD is an awesome mix of the blues-influenced alternative and punk music that Detroit is known to produce. I would highly recommend this album to anyone who enjoys a little bit of blues a little bit of edginess, great lyrics and great songwriting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great stuff
if you are like me and are an avid fan of the White Stripes, you are probably waiting for their next album, with De Stijl and Elephant in the CD player to tide you over. The White Stripes weren't always Grammy Nominees, they were once a new band on the Detroit music scene. Fortunately, jack White really stayed true to his roots and was able to give us the awesome album. It will really give an inside look at new bands, that have that same raw, real, simple sound that the White Stripes are known for. For the White Stripes fan this is a must buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Album - No defect
The album simply is a great buy for anyone even slightly into the detroit music scene.Just to clear up one issue though there is no problem with the product, anyone with the 'Candy Coloured Blues' unauthorised white stripes documentry will know that the cut short tracks are an interesting experiment in which Jack White asked band members to simply play something bluesey, in an effort to reveal somthing about the detroit bands he was showcasing. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good music, bad game.
As a real old-school goth- one who was listening to gothic music and dressing in goth-style thrift clothes in 1983- I have to say this is a good music compilation. Each song is a good representative of the goth subculture, though a bit too modern to be a real sampler of goth.
4-0 out of 5 stars I have a split personality, and this CD made me realize it!
Ok, I absolutely LOVE this CD. I am no where NEAR being anything of a goth epicurian, and after listening to this CD I immediately looked for each artists' websites and/or music clips online. Sadly, I didn't find anything else that really peaked my ears like this CD did. 4-0 out of 5 stars Some good stuff from the edge of the 80's
It could be argued that much of what's included in this set actually belonged on a 70's collection, but that's beside the point. You get pretty good bang for the buck with this disc unless you have already invested in another collection that includes some of the more common songs on here.(By common I mean songs like The Knack's "My Sharona".Good, but is it new wave?)By contrast, songs like Blondie's "One Way Or Another", Nick Lowe's excellent "Cruel To Be Kind", Graham Parker's likewise brilliant "Local Girls", Dave Edmunds' "Girls Talk" or The Flying Lizards' version of "Money", are nothing short of brilliant inclusions.Plastic Bertrand's "Ca Plane Pour Moi" never struck me as great, but when I played this disc in the car with my daughter and her friends one day, they shocked me by singing along with the song word for word.Turns out it made a Mary Kate & Ashley movie soundtrack.(And I haven't seen Vol. 1 since.)Great stuff, but "Video Killed The Radio Star"?Was that necessary?

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent faire for the 80's enthusiast's
A few of these songs on this disc are pretty common amongst 80's fans (Blondie's One Way or Another, Nick Lowe's Cruel to Be Kind, The Knack's My Sharona and The Buggles VKtRS) but there are a few seriously excellent unknown gems on this disc that a majority of the people will enjoy I think.Starting with Ca Plane Pour Moi from Plastic Bertrand, then skipping to Graham Parker's Local Girls. The highlight of the disc is Tim Curry's (Rocky Horror Picture Show) insane song, I Do the Rock which seems to get better with every listen.Out of the entire collection, I give this one a rating of 7.5 out of 10

4-0 out of 5 stars A decent sampling of early New Wave hits (dancing optional)
New Wave was the term used to describe the music that came after punk rock in the late 1970s and early 1980s, although certainly it included post-punk music as well. However, I never really thought of it sas "dance" music, which means nothing because I never went dancing to disco, techno, or anything in between. So this might be Volume 1 of "New Wave Dance Hits" but I just think of it as a solid New Wave collection.New Wave might have been the pop music of its time, but it retained the vigor and irreverence of punk music as well as being musically more sophisticated with its interest in electronics and such. This collection has the virtue of including the songs that defined the change in music, namely the Knack's "My Sharona," the Ramones "Rock & Roll High School," and the song that heralded the creation of MTV, "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles. These sixteen tracks are devoted more to the one-hit wonders like Tim Curry's "I Do the Rock" and "Gidget Goes to Hell" by Suburban Lawns rather than the big name groups like Blondie (Nick Lowe and Graham Parker are not quite in Deborah Harry's league). But once you get beyond "One Way or Another" you are dealing with Plastic Bertrand and the Flying Lizards rather than Duran Duran, Culture Club, and the Pretends, which is fine, because the point of a hit collection like this one is to add songs you do not have to your music library. In that regard, Volume 1 of "New Wave Dance Hits" should easily provide you with a half-dozen songs worth having. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Good thing it costs less than six bucks....
And it't not even worth that. The Puke-O-Rama is terrible.Out of the 28 songs there are maybe three good ones. There are some ok bands on here, but they sure picked some crappy songs from those bands. This CD is filled with poser punks and a bunch of pop punk.Spend your money elsewhere.

1-0 out of 5 stars Best Punk Compilation Ever? I Beg To Differ!):<
Let's get one thing strait: I am deffidently not a punk hater, and DEFFIDENTLY not an mtv loser fan. In fact, punk rock is my favorite type of music. But I did not like punk o rama volume 5. I just did not find it cool, catchy, or even ok. It sucked. The only songs I really liked were the Pennywise song and the Vision song(which is about being close minded, and I don't like people who are close minded), and the Pulley song was okay, though the singer's voice annoys the heck outta me. The rest is bland, unoriginal, and annoying. Even the Rancid song was annoing. Yes, you heard me right. Everyone's so-called favorite punk band's song was annoying. At Borders, I had the choice between this and AFI's All Hollows E.P. I now know better than that. If you liked this CD, fine. Just remember to buy good punk CDs from bands like The Distillers, Misfits, The Ramones, Offspring, Rise Against, and early AFI, out of respect for good punk.

5-0 out of 5 stars Damn good punk, fewer pennies
There is something about good punk and this album has it. Crank it up to annoy the hip hop posers in mama's 'burban next to you at a red light. Anti social behaviors induced by playing this album are an intended side effect. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Many Highlights
Most compilations are dodgy affairs, and benefit/charity releases are especially guilty, but this sneak hit in the "Red Hot + ___" series of AIDS-benefit/awareness releases was easily the best of the bunch, and presents a surprisingly freethinking travelogue of the rock underground, circa '94, just as that underground was cruising into mainstream consciousness.
2-0 out of 5 stars Normally I'm open minded
Sorry, this CD just isn't the exact genre that I was thinking. Buying the wrong kind of compilation was my mistake, but with the Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, i thought maybe it was going to be a little heavier than what it was. Turned out to be the light alt-pop bands from the 90's.
4-0 out of 5 stars The kind of CD that never leaves you
No Alternative is one of those CDs that you listen to on your way to work for a month straight, finally tire of, forget for a few years, and then remember all over again, listening to it on your way to work for a month straight. The beauty of compilations and soundtracks is that, when they're done right, they're diverse enough to keep your interest far longer than an album by a single artist ever could. 3-0 out of 5 stars Probably the best Atticus Comp
I have to say, I enjoy all 3 Atticus CD's greatly, despite the fact that many people claim that they demean in quality as they grow higher in number.I do think though, that this one is probably the best all around.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best Punk-O-Rama!
It has its high points, but some real stinkers contaminate it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Easily the best Punk-o-Rama
This introduced me to the world of Epitaph punk. Good thing it was like 8 years ago instead of now because Epitaph sucks now.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great.
I dont get why this got so many bad reviews.Sure its not exactly Punk but it does have a few quality tracks and for 15$ for 33 tracks whos complaining. This Compilation features some of "modern"punks most high profile bands Rancid,NOFX,Bad Religion,Pennywise,Millencolin,Tiger Army,No fun at all.But its not all good,God knows what the Hell Epitaph were thinking when they signed Matchbook Romance. If your a fan of Epitaph bands its probably worth the small price,If you are a punk "purist"this will just infuriate you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheapcashin-O-Rama
This is the poorest collection of "punk" songs I have ever seen put together, if you are looking for a real punk compilation rather than the trash you hear on the radio AND the trash produced by labels such as Epitaph who are just as much in it for the money then buy something like "100% Hardcore Punk" (goto www.interpunk.com). Only settle for buying a compilation if it is the last thing you do! Most of the songs on the punk-o-rama series are not even remotely punk anyway; a lot of what is put onto the compilations is emo just to sell the record to a wider audience. Sod that for a laugh, emo is not punk; emo goes against almost everything punk is for. Musically, I'm sure it's great (!) but as the majority of people reviewing this album are saying "buy it because it's so much more punk than anything you've bought before" I will review on this basis aswell. Buy some A Global Threat, Aus-Rotten, Unseen or Crass and get into some real punk rock rather than this garbage produce for MTV2.

1-0 out of 5 stars NO!
I just got this punk o rama from a friend, and its not a very good cd at all, in fact, it sucks.
