4-0 out of 5 stars Why Don't You Own This Already?
"The Rutles" is a Beatles spoof that, surprisingly enough, is so well-loved by Beatles fans that it practically qualifies as supplemental material. All the music here is written by Neil Innes and parodies virtually every distinct period in Beatles history. From the early days of Beatlemania, to their psychedelic era, to their "get back" stage - the Rutles includes something for everyone. Far from being a one-joke phenomenon, "The Rutles" holds up very well almost 30 years later and there's a lot of cleverness contained within the CD. For sheer entertainment value, these 20 songs beat most of the "Anthology" hands-down.
5-0 out of 5 stars rutles cd
excellent prompt service

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just parody - GREAT SONGS!
I grew up with both The Beatles and The Rutles. My parents would listen to Rubber Soul on Saturday night, then my brother and I would be up on Sunday morning watching our favourite video - The Rutles "All You Need Is Cash". For a while I even thought they were the same thing for a while (and I used to humm Rutles songs thinking they were Beatles songs sometimes). This is testament to the quality of the film's parody, but also to the high quality songwriting - on a par with the Beatles on some occasions (the bridge section of "Number One" for example). OK, so they are copying the Beatles styles of songwriting, but that never really harmed Oasis's career did it? The songs are excellent, and this raises them up above the level of parody. As well as making you laugh, these are truly great songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes it is that good
I came across some fairly brutal reviews for this album. Ah well, every man to his own. This work is impossibly subtle, daydream for a second and you miss a mindblowing transisition. If you think I'm joking try finding the twenty-something transistions my midi program detected on track 2. The theme is middle easternish which is the perfect atmosphere for Gerrard's impossible voice. What I like most about this album, and the reason I am writing this review is becasue of the way each track ends. No seriously, even if you don't like the track in question, you have to admit.... I mean I haven't seen such stunning fade offs since Tony Gonzalez's "Unrecorded"
5-0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly beautiful, soothingly mystical, fulfillingly Eastern sound
I was never a fan of 'Dead can Dance' only because I'd never heard them. But a friend of mine saw that I liked Caroline Lavelle and said: "I think you'll like this album."Let me just say, I've never put this album away and had to replace it twice (once was worn and broken, once a boyfriend stole my copy.)I think I have yet to find someone I know who will listen to it and it doesn't move them somewhat.
2-0 out of 5 stars No!... Not Disappointment!!
I must say that after being a fan of Dead Can Dance for years now, and hearing that Lisa was out making music for movies, and sharing her beautiful talents with the world I was looking forward to buying one of her solo albums.

It can't be said enough: Gomez is probably the most unlikely name for a five British kids who worship Tom Waits and the Grateful Dead. But that's nothing compared to their sound, a growling brand of blues-rock that sounds like it originates on the Mississippi rather than the Thames. The group's previous album, 2002's Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great indie rock album by Gomez!
Gomez's "Split The Difference" is a great indie rock album with a lot of catchy and fun tunes. Tom Gray and Ben Ottewell do a very goob job on the vocals, though they're not perfect. One of them (I'm not sure which one is which) has a really good voice, but the other has a rough voice which is a little questionable. This second singer might turn some people off, but I think you'll get used to him over time. Every song here is very good, and there's also a couple hitworthy songs ("Silence" and "Sweet Virginia" are the most notable). The musicianship is pretty interesting and always catchy - you definitely won't get bored listening to this. If you like indie rock then chances are you'll like this album a heck of a lot. Absolutely recommended!
4-0 out of 5 stars Don't give up on this CD!
I had never heard of Gomez, but one day I happen to come across the group on the internet. I'm always looking for new artists to check out. I love all sorts of genres and artists.
5-0 out of 5 stars New and wonderful direction
After a few spins, the album grew on me (much like Liquid Skin). The sound is diverse and lovely - and they are amazing live!

At their career zenith, Oasis were lauded as the best band in the world. They were actually never the greatest rock & roll band at any time, but for a few years they were the biggest. While they offered the '90s two of its most defining albums, and a resurgence of '60s-influenced Manchester rock, Oasis tumbled off the top of the mountain in the last half of the decade. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately underrated
For the most part, this is a rock-n-roll album with big guitars. In spots, it's a bit overproduced.Like all its predecessors, this Oasis album has that air of familiarity and gives you that, "I've heard this before" feeling.I think it's quite fresh, though.Oasis is a paradox: they beg, steal and borrow from the Who, the Beatles, the Stones, the Stone Roses, Slade, T. Rex, Bowie, etc, but still come out sounding like Oasis. With the exception of one or two songs that are blatant rip-offs, the worst that can be said for its originality is that it's "derivative" in places.
2-0 out of 5 stars Two stars is generous!
Perhaps its the fact that "Owen Morris" is not producing their albums anymore, or the fact that they need a producer, because Oasis produced this album themselves, and while thats all well and good. Noel Gallaghar (singer/songwriter/lead guitarist)said in a interview around the time of this release that the band should take responsibilty for their own records, its actually very dissapointing even compared to "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants" and "Be Here Now" both which got more flak than they deserved because they were by no means bad albums at all, they were just unfoccussed.
3-0 out of 5 stars Weak
Really 2.5 stars.People who have read my other reviews know I am a big Oasis fan.No other rock band of the past 15 years has put out such a huge volume of high quality music.Oasis' first two albums are straight up classics.I also think "Be Here Now" is one of the most underrated albums of the 90's and will be recognized as a classic in time.Oasis' newest, "Don't Believe the Truth," is great as well-- as good as anything they've ever done.I am sure they have a lot more in them as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Albums Ever

5-0 out of 5 stars Chairs Missing is incredible; and if you don't have it, you really should
In 1978, being qualified as "the Pink Floyd of the New Wave" might have come across as something of an insult; and by today's artistic strategies of rampant revivalism such a pithy remark may ring true to many a listener. That statement was, in fact, the critique prescribed to Chairs Missing, Wire's second album, as the album decelerated the pogo punk minimalism found on their first album with an increasing use of experimental production. In hindsight, Chairs Missing is the perfect transition between the high-strung velocity of Pink Flag and the staggering gloominess of 154; yet most transition records have a clunkiness about them, like a lanky teenager not quite able to fit into his sunday best. But Chairs Missing is miles above the average transition album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gomez Is Great!
Since their debut a few years ago, Gomez have continually stretched themselves to make music that is both challenging and effective. These guys certainly know their way around a recording studio, using it as a means of filtering and expanding their ideas beyond what might be considered `conventional'. While they lack the `star quality' that causes others to be labeled visionaries, In Our Gun leaves little doubt that they are remarkably creative. For me, it took more than one listen to recognize the depth of this album's appeal, but the best stuff usually does require extra attention.
4-0 out of 5 stars We're jamming
Every review I read about Gomez goes like this: "Hey, they won the Mercury Prize...." I also know that John Lee Hooker confessed that he liked the music of Bring It On. But who cares in the end? (...) What have you done for me lately? I am lonely! Plus the fact that Gomez was just this obscure band to us in America that sounded as if they were from New Mexico but were not. I mean these guys wrote "Tijuana Lady" right? I saw them play with the glam-outfit Placebo once in a dim hotel in Times Square and Gomez appeared like roadies in comparison. There was nothing exciting about them. They looked like unhappy students who were embarrassed by being on stage. From the American perspective we were wondering why those critics ever liked Gomez and Gay Dad. 5-0 out of 5 stars music u wont necessary love, but u definately wont hate
Im gonna keep this short and simple, Gomez are a british band whos music is so unlike anyone elses. The best way to describe it is a sort of chillout music. Every gomez track is excellent and impossible to hate, they have catchy tunes and intriguing lyrics. A particularly good time to listen to Gomez is just after a party when everyone is chilling out, or u can listen to them wenever u like cuz they will sound incredible all the time. If u dont believe me then listen to the previews on this website and ENJOY!!!!!! ... Read more

I loved Kate's earlier albums and I was primed for the release of THE DREAMING, or so I thought. It blew me away! What could be greater than one of your favorite artists producing a massively great album, even better than their previous efforts..? I used to listen to this one each and every morning, it was a great start to the day!
5-0 out of 5 stars Wierd - eh, like no...
I am sick of people classifying this album as wacky or wierd. This was the first Bush record I purchased [for 3.99 by the way, as it has always been seen as her commercial failure]. This is her best, a blossom waiting to flower, and that is the best time surely to savour something lovely.

5-0 out of 5 stars Back to my childhood
Oh my goodness....I had this on a vinyl LP back when I was a very young teenager and nearly drove my parents CRAZY with it. I listened to it 3 times a day for about two years....about 700 times or more...when I was 14 and 15.Now that I listen to it again, I see it was terribly formative for me, a major influence on my life.I never realized how much the lyrics interweave through my psyche even now, miles away, years later....Buy this and it will change your life. ... This is a terrific cd for many reasons;
5-0 out of 5 stars as good as it ever was
this album stands as stong as it ever did the original joe jackson band was far more tallented than they ever got credit for.but here it is One More Time,Is She Really Going Out With Him and the great Sunday Papers .yes they maybe a little dated but these were great times.you can hear it in the music.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic of the new wave era
Look Sharp! is the debut release of singer/songwriter Joe Jackson, who along with Elvis Costello and Graham Parker, is considered in the Big Three of the great songwriters of the new wave era. Like his counterparts, Joe Jackson combined the energy of punk rock with his witty and creative lyrics. And like Costello and Parker, Jackson had a killer band, whom despite their low profile, were very important to his sound. Although he seldom gets the credit that the popular Costello or the critically acclaimed Parker receives, Look Sharp! is an undeniable influence on what would become punk pop and emo in the 90's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mezmerizing . . .
The first 3 songs are hauntingly seductive.A *must play* for passionate make-out sessions (where I first heard the songs, myself . . . thank you, Jonathan).Highly recommended (the kissing AND the music). The next day I did a search on the Catherine Wheel, and discovered that it was a medieval torture device (sadly named after St Catherine, who died while being tortured).I've never heard why the band chose the name (or why the band broke up), but lead singer Rob Dickinson is still touring. He grew up in the UK; he's touring the US this year (2006).Back to the CD, the guitar riffs are divine. You will soar!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant
The pure beauty and melody this album has is haunting. It's a sin and a shame that so many great bands are swallowed up by the music industry's greed due to their promotion of more "marketable" bands. This album has pretty much everything you can think of that is supposed to be melodic rock. There aren't many more words I can saybecause of all the other great reviews. If you are thinking about getting this album, stop reading right now, go up to the top and purchase it.You WILL NOT REGRET IT.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fermented in history.
My first Catherine Wheel disc was "Happy Days", and while I do like that album, I picked this up because I was craving more of the shoegazer type sound. For the most part this is what I wanted. The infamous "Black Metallic" was the initial highlight, but after more listens I like most everything. "Indigo Is Blue" and "She's My Friend" are both wonderful, and I love "Tumbledown" and "Bill And Ben". However my current favorite track is easily "Flower To Hide", possibly because it reminds me alot of a good Lush song. Overall I hesitate to call it the masterpiece some do, but it is damn good. Now if they could just drop a "Best Of" album. ... Read more

Following a British rock tradition initiated by the Beatles and lovingly inherited by the Jam and the Clash, Oasis is the only band of the CD era to offer fans extra tracks on their singles that are often as good as, if not better than, the hits. Rather than saving his new songs for the next full album, Noel Gallagher prefers immediacy. Thus, this compilation of those various "B-Sides"--many available as nonimports for the first time--works just great as a listening experience, offering metallic rushes ("Acquiesce," "The Swamp Song") and absolute melodic beauty ("Talk Tonight," the marvelous "Rockin' Chair"), while conjuring up the ghosts of Mott the Hoople, T. Rex, the Fab Four, and Slade, although Oasis's "Cum On Feel the Noize" is sadly absent. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic collection of Oasis B-sides.
First, let me point out that Oasis is my favorite band. There isn't an Oasis song I don't like. So I'm going to guide you throughout the entire album and give you my overall opinion of the album. 4-0 out of 5 stars Still mad for it
Few would argue that the most essential Oasis albums are the first two, Definitely Maybe from August 1994 and (What's The Story) Morning Glory from October 1995, when they were young and mad for it, and Noel Gallagher had a pocket book seemingly stuffed to capacity with classic songs. So prolific was he that the singles from that brief period contained a further 20 new songs on the B-sides most of which were the equal of those on the albums, some arguably superior.
2-0 out of 5 stars Yes, this is B-side material
As you probably have read by now, this album is a compilation of material previously released as B-sides - and it probably should have stayed that way. Although this album is better than the absurdly awful "Be Here Now" - it is not as terribly bad and annoying as that album - there are real no standout tracks on this album. "Acquiesce," the first track is decent, but other tracks are average, don't stick out and don't stay in your memory long, or are just bad. I borrowed this CD from the library for 3 weeks and gave it several listens. That is usually enough time for me to judge an album enough for me to know whether it's worth buying, and this one just isn't. [...]

5-0 out of 5 stars Movin' On...
After the Brit Pop movement got exhausted, bands began to break off and move into very different directions. After the Great Escape, Blur treaded into really fuzzed-out and tripped out territory. A place where the White Sripes would eventually come from. And the results are mind-blowing. Where the weird sound effects gurgling on prior albums was subtle and hinted at, on this album it they hit you like a brick.
5-0 out of 5 stars Movin' On From Britpop
My favourite album's tend to be the one's where a successful band leaves behind their signature sound and ventures into new realms that you wouldn't have expected them to and this is no exception. That's not to say that Blur were always the indie pop meets music hall of 'Parklife' and 'The Great Escape', there was definitely evidence of them wanting to be a more challenging band on their second album 'Modern Life Is Rubbish' and prior to becoming Blur their previous incarnation as art punks 'Seymour' showed they were musically more ambitious than any of the Britpop bands of the mid-nineties.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hasn't left my cd player!
I first discovered Blur through Damon Albarn's side project, Gorillaz. Needless to say, Blur sounded completely different from the "zombie hip-hop" of Gorillaz, but I liked it - a lot. This is the third Blur CD I have, after their greatest hits album and "Parklife."

One needs only two Sex Pistols' albums: "Never Mind the Bollocks" and "Rock n Roll Swindle." There's just nothing out there that even remotely resembles the Pistols' version of 'Roadrunner' ("Steve, wait...wait....I don't know the f'n words!") and the pieces by Jones and Cook are excellent, and a great preview of their work together in The Professionals. For those who wish to go deeper, in addition to "Swindle" and "Bollocks," I'd recommend John Lydon's first album with PIL featuring "Religion I & II," ("Fat pig priest, sanctimonious smile...") along with PIL's greatest hits or Metal Box, also any work Lydon did with Leftfield, e.g. "Open Up"; anything by The Professionals is great ("I Didn't See It Coming"), and the soundtrack to 'Sid & Nancy' if only for the atmosphere provided by Pray for Rain and The Pogues. (By the way, if interested, you can probably find a few clips of Steve Jones and The Professionals in action on YouTube. Highly entertaining.)

3-0 out of 5 stars Sex Pistols - 'Kiss This:The Best Of The.....' (EMI)
Not only do you get every track here from the notorious clods of British punk's 1977's sole 'proper' record 'Never Mind The Bollocks',but this CD reissue has extra cuts that may not appeal to most anyone but possibly the completists. As always,it's a total scream listening to "Pretty Vacant","Holidays In The Sun","Bodies" and "Liar".Twenty songs total, decent compilation.

AMAZING album. Everything about it is perfect. The songs, the imagery, the execution. On a song like the title track "Hounds of Love", you can really hear and feel Kate's ambition. Beautiful.

Kate Bush's colorful career is a long and exciting road, with its share of bumps and twists along the way. Her albums are maddeningly uneven and she can casually throw a masterpiece after a 4-minute exhibition of pretense. "Hounds of Love' is one of the best moments of that career so far, but it is definetely a characteristic moment as well, including its good and bad.

1-0 out of 5 stars Simply dull
Dull and uninspiring, listening to this CD I couldn't see what distinguished the Doves from the other insipid sound-a-like bands that plague the modern music scene. If you like The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers then be grateful that they've saved rock music from boring dross like this!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Thing
I bought this album last year after having had it recommended to me. I bought without any previous experience of the band whatsoever (despite coming from Britain) but a single listen was all it took to turn me into a diehard Doves fan. You should wallow in the album. It envelops you, it draws you in. It tugs the heartstrings without being mawkish. It is a Beautiful Thing.
