5-0 out of 5 stars The Real Deal & Sloppy Wonderful
Don't think of buying this instead of the two (2) studio albums. Buy this as companion. This is what the Dolls sounded like when you saw them in a cramped, sweaty club in 1973. Young, hungry, urgent, sassy, and confident. The star is Jerry Nolan's drumming. No matter what chaos was happening up front, Jerry slams the back beat and keeps the boys in line. Arthur's rumble bass is up front, and better represented here than in either studio album. Let's hear it for the underappreciated rhythm section. David is in exceptional voice throughout, and Johnny's nasal off-key vocals make me smile. I can see his screwed up face everytime he squeals "Trash!" or "I'm a human bein'." That's Queens, N'Yawk talkin' at you. Syl fills in all the blanks energetically and inventively. I've been waiting years to relive the Dolls' sloppy wonderful version of "Give Her A Great Big Kiss." Marty Thau's liner notes are heartfelt. I remember him first showing up at the Mercer Arts Center. Looking old school record biz promotor with a gang of juvenile deliquents. My only regret is that "Endless Party" was left off. It was always my favorite Dolls' song, and one that typified what they were like. RIP Billy, Johnny, Jerry, Arthur. Rock on, David and Syl!

5-0 out of 5 stars New York Dolls at their Best!
This is the good stuff.....raw and live versions with better sound quality than any of their studio recordings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Private World
Where did these guys come from? How'd they make women's clothes look masculine?I can imagine Marty's amazement when he walked into the Mercer Arts Center.Amazement and joy.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Top Five Live Albums of All Time
If you can only have one Talking Heads album, then get this one. Frenetic energy, fabulous changes, perfect pacing, it captures the entire Talking Heads legacy. "Life During Wartime" and "Take Me to the River" are unbelievable to end the set. I wish The Clash had something like this for posterity. This compares to The Band's "Last Waltz" for best rock performance in a live setting. Daniel

3-0 out of 5 stars I like the liner notes better than the music.
I love Talking Heads.I do.But I love them in the way that someone who knows them mainly through hearing his older siblings constantly playing them as he grew up loves them.I don't own many of their albums, and I've never even see the film "Stop Making Sense," though I've watched David Byrne's "True Stories" dozens of times.I picked this CD up out of a bargain bin a couple of years ago, and though I like it, I just don't feel it's Talking Heads at their best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, inventive and extremely important.......the debut from DK about 4 1/2 stars
DK burst on the scene in the late 70's with an innovative and extremely funny sound. Blending elements of punk, hardcore and rockabilly with lyrical content based souly on political awareness the Dead Kennedys were leading the charge on the movement of getting the word out. Lead by master lyricist Jello Biafra (who was a man on a mission), surf rock guitarist East Bay Ray, bass player extraordinaire Klaus Flouride and Ted on drums. The Dead Kennedys were embarking on a dangerous and untraveled road against all odds. This reissue of their debut is a perfect starting point for all those revolutionaries out there who truly want to listen to something important. Many great songs here. There are a few fillerson the album but those tracks don't take away from the intensity of 'Fresh Fruit'. As a bonus with this reissue you get a 55 minute documentary dvd which offers insight into the beginnings of DK. Early performances of the band which are out of this world, interviews and Jello's short run for Mayor of San Francisco. Incredible to say the least.

5-0 out of 5 stars forget alternative tentacles, get this!!
first, i am surprised at the amount of obviously brain-washed people giving bad reviews to all DK albums. okay, so the profits are not going to Jello Biafra. first, who cares? there are 3 other band members who still deserve profits. hell, Jello didn't even start this band! East Bay Ray was the guy who was responsible for them coming together!....and if you do end up finding a used alternative tentacles version..who gets the cash then? some second hand cd exchange seller who will probably spend it on beer?..... all i can say, is Jello Biafra will not get any money from any DK album you buy. so why not at least support the three other musicians who worked hard on the DK albums?
5-0 out of 5 stars Still As Fresh 25 Years On
Just a cursory glance through the titles of this 1980 San Francisco punk classic should prepare you for the madness contained within the album's 14 tracks. Landlords are being lynched, children and the poor killed, drugs and chemical warfare indulged in, and somewhat tamely in comparison, people's mail stolen. It all rounds off with one of the classic punk covers, as the DK's tear through the King's Viva Las Vegas. Hearing them lambast then-Californian Governor Jerry Brown and the American army- on California Uber Alles and When Ya Get Drafted respectively-you get the impression Messrs. Bush Jnr and Schwarzenegger are relieved this lot were born twenty-five years too early to shower them with vitriol.

Editorial Review

Fellow Californian Mike Love of the Beach Boys is sampled to introduce this latest Offspring release and immediately it's down to business as usual. Which for the Offspring means the best-produced punk rock money can buy. Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam) turns the knobs in the producer's chair and he works pure sonic architecture. The guitars crunch with perfectly defined distortion, the drums come down the middle, and--most importantly--singer Dexter Holland is juiced to the max. Though his voice sits in the "whine" range, double tracking and other studio enhancements give the vocals an incredible presence beyond standard range, and Holland works them to convincing effect. "Come Out Swinging" does exactly that. "Want You Bad" recalls the southern California punk pop of the Descendents. "One Fine Day" double-times into both hardcore and a galloping country terrain. Essentially, it's full speed ahead with the pedal to the metal and no airbags in sight. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Good Release!
Conspiracy of One is very similar in sound as well as rating to Americana. Both have great songs mixed in with some okay ones. Still no release yet has been as good as Smash even though each album released so far still satisfies. The album is just another good release by the band. My favorite tracks are "Living In Chaos", "Special Delivery", "Denial, Revisited", and "Vultures". Those are my favorites even though there are still really good other tracks on the album.
4-0 out of 5 stars My first Offspring CD........but definitely not my last
I've wanted to check The Offspring out for quite some time and finally got a chance to. After listening to the CD for the first time I thought it was pretty decent, I also like Green Day and thought that Conspirancy of One even sounded a little better than Green Day. After about my 5th listen to the CD i realized how genius it was. Track #8 "Special Delivery" is my favorite, it's one of those songs that just pump you up.
2-0 out of 5 stars My least favourite Offspring disc
My most recent purchase of this disc ellicited only "modified rapture". I found many songs to be irritating at first, with "Original Prankster" being the most offensive. I actually had to turn it off - I've NEVER done that with an Offspring song but once and that was during "Cool to Hate" (Ixnay), which I eventually warmed up to, and this one too, after another chance. Is it odd that "Dammit I changed again" has a similar reappearance in "Lightning Rod" (Splinter)? And listen to "One Fine Day" (my favourite on the disc) - tell me you don't immediately think of Green Day! OK, maybe only the introduction. One of the few highlights for me was "Special Delivery", but probably because I can relate to the words.

This collection spans the best of the career of these DC/NYC reggae/hardcore musicans.Later stuff is OK....but Bad Brains aren't the same without HR's "throat".
5-0 out of 5 stars best hardcore band EVER
No hardcore band beats the bad brains. They play so damn fast you cant understand them...its great! These guys don't jsut play hardcore either, on this album theres metal and theres reggae. Theres no reason why not to buy it if you like punk (none of that pop-punk crap.)

Cajun music might not need a tribute--after all, it has held its own andremained popular for a very long time now--but the music on this disc isglittering enough to shine in any company. Ann Savoy (the grande dame of Cajunmusic who assembled this project) andLinda Ronstadt pair upto gorgeous effect on two songs,Richard Thompson offershis own particular edgy style to "Les Flammes d'Enfer,"Nick Lowe soundsconvincingly Arcadian on "Arrette Pas la Musique," andMaria McKee brings atransparent soulfulness to her contributions. 5-0 out of 5 stars Back Home On Saturday Night
This album is so much like being back on the bayou once again on a Saturday night, dancing on old wooden floors, having a cold drink and playing pool. The songs transform a car or living room into a long lost world of childhood nights when people had not much money, but something to laugh about, and took time to make the most of what they did have. I am definately buying my memories today.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bland Lame Mockery
What should have been done with this project - Ann Savoy where is your common sense(?) - was to have incorporated TRUE Cajun artists' 'tributes' alongside mainstream artists' watered down lame interpretations just, if only, to add a bit of spice, zest and life to these horrendous "filler" tracks. Some of these artists have jumped on the wagon for a last gasp of possible exposure to their sagging careers. I'm very disappointed in Linda Ronstadt - seems all her projects from the past decade beyond her "Feels Like Home" album are mere warmups for indistinct singing which plainly implies she'd be much better off singing somewhere in a choir in anonymous obscurity. Somebody needs to grab Linda and shake her back to her own musical realities - what a shameful waste of her vocal abilities. [Ronstadt is leaving her "tierra" of Tuscon, Arizona in 2005 for a move back to San Francisco after a decade in commercial career doldrums - an obviously planned prestaging for a future "comeback" to her rightful throne as the Queen Of Pop.] If Ann Savoy envisioned massive universal exposure and commercial success for Cajun Music by influencing these 'blasts from their own pasts' to perform this genre of music, she was way off the mark and this entire project misfires. The artists on this tribute may indeed love Cajun, but, their musical visions fall flatly off base too fast. Sure, all music is out there and can be 'covered' by whoever wishes to do so, but, at least create an impressive contribution for the sake of keeping it vibrantly alive. We in Texas recognize and applaud the true Cajun artists[both famous and obscure]who come across the TX-LA border to perform at local & statewide celebrations only to leave audiences mesmerized and blown away long after they've packed up and gone back home to perform elsewhere. If you must have Cajun music in your collection out of a sincere love and appreciation for it, PLEASE look up the genre's rightfully endowed artists and obtain their Cd albums instead - at least give them their due.[You can also listen to Cajun Music saturday mornings for a few hours on Houston's own KPFT 90.1 FM on the internet at www.kpft.org - nothing but the real stuff is played there!]

5-0 out of 5 stars Slight disagreement....
I disagree with the previous review on a few things.First of all, CCR WAS influenced by Swamp Pop, but Swamp Pop is HEAVILY influenced by Cajun music; for those who don't know, it's essentially the music that came out when young Cajuns decided to play rock and roll instead of their own music, and they added Cajun instruments, rhythms and French lyrics to rock and roll, forming a "new" (but actually evolved) style of music. But that's just a technicality.

4-0 out of 5 stars What Am I Doing With a Devo Album!?!
I must confess that I am not a fan of New Wave. I can certainly "stomach"...and in some cases really enjoy certain bands from the genre such as The Cars, Talking Heads and The Fixx, but I absolutely adore "New Traditionalists". I actually "unshelved" this CD recently after many years of not listening to it...and it brought it all back for me and prompted me to write the one and only review I'll likely write for a New Wave release. It also got me wondering exactly how (and why) I ended up with this recording---- usually I can remember who, how and where I was "turned-on" to a new artist or band...but for the life of me, I can't remember how "NT" found its way into my collection? I don't own any other Devo albums, and probably never will---- I grew up with Hard Rock, Heavy Metal and a small portion of Pop Rock and Singer/Songwriter music....so I KNOW I didn't purchase this (besides, the mention of a band like Devo would have gotten me laughed right out of the Rock/Metal band I was playing in at the time I "aquired" this album). Anyway...enough of my ramblings. Without going into individual songs, I can say that I really enjoy every track on the original release....though I can do without the extra tracks here on the remastered CD. If pressed to name favorites, I would pick "Pity You", "Going Under", "Through Being Cool", "LWA" and "Beautiful World". Other reviews here mention how the band was trying to "say" something within the individual songs on "NT"---- I guess I can see (hear) that, however, if I want a listening experience with a "message" and social commentary, I'm not going to grab for this to get that "fix". On the other hand, if I'm in the mood for some cool, quirky and fun music that doesn't take too much "brain power" to enjoy, this exceptional release is always on 'stand-by' for me. If your looking for an 'initiation' into this band, I would (and can only) recommend looking no further than "New Traditionalists....4.5 stars

4-0 out of 5 stars The Spud Boy's Fourth Album
Really, this is where the Spud's edginess ends. A very solid CD by the boys from Ohio. Some great videos came off this CD as well (Beautiful World, Love Without Anger).
5-0 out of 5 stars 23+ years of listening bliss (just ask my sons)!
I wore out the vinyl and my parents' eardrums when this LP came out in 1981. Who could have predicted that, years later, my sons (the oldest of whom is the age I was when "Whip It" came out!) & I would be singing along together as the CD blared from my BMW's speakers?(They even think their old mom has great taste in music.) "Mecha Mania Boy" makes the special edition worth the extra dough, but that doesn't mean you can get away with not buying "Duty." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This album saved my life.
My War is one of the most important albums in my collection, because it helped me get through some really tough times in my life. The whole aura of the release is depression and anguish, but at the same time the album can sooth because the lyrics are deep and moving. Some people might not like this album, because they can solve emotional issues on their own, but if you need comfort and guidance to let off anger and pain, put My War on maximum volume with the lyrics booket in hand and begin to heal all emotional pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Album is a smack in the jaw
Henry rollins and Greg Ginn Working together for this 1983 master piece. You can feel rollins spitting in your face while he sings "My War! your one of them you say, your my friend but your one of them". this album is nothing to f**k with buy it but warning don't listen to if, your having relationship problems, job problems, school problems exc.. because if your in a good mood before this album you will want to kick someone in the n*ts after this. plus we don't want to see you on the news.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Tonight I sit right down in my room..."
This album is Black Flag's best, without a doubt. The songs are packed full of emotion, Henry can deliver words with such intensity, the guitar is muddy and sounds almost like you're listening to Black Sabbath's Master of Reality. This album also contains the infamous 3 slow songs, which most Black Flag fans did not like. Out of all the songs on the album, those 3 are my favorite. They are so intense, you feel every word hit you like a trainwreck. I cannot describe the way I felt when I first heard "Three Nights" or "Nothing Left Inside", JUST GET THIS ALBUM. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Walking around with your head in the clouds.
This CD features the a-sides and b-sides of two Husker Du singles."Eight Miles High" is a good cover version of the classic Byrds song."Masochism World" is a poorly recorded live version of a song from Husker Du's third album."Make No Sense at All" is a great original song by the group."Love is All Around" is a good version of The Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song, which could have been great if the group had learned the second verse, instead of just repeating the first verse.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Track in the History of Rock
What do you get when you shove oceans' full of adrenaline, melancholy, anger, joy, yearning, nihilsm, optimism, surrender, ecstasy all into one 45 rpm single?A rock explosion that has never been surpassed. In the summer of 1984 I had dropped out of school, moved to the East Village, NYC, and started playing guitar in some crappy band. All the neighborhood record-store and rock band hipsters, who rarely looked for music produced outside New York and London, were talking about the band from Minneapolis and their incredible cover of "Eight Miles High."I loved it too, played it a thousand times at maximum volume, but never would have thought a track so raw would hold up over time.Twenty years later it actually sounds ten times better. An unbelievably great achievement.

5-0 out of 5 stars UNBELIEVABLE!
Husker Du's version of "Eight Miles High" is amazing! The screaming, agonized vocals of Bob Mould combined with the thundering bass and drums of Greg Norton and Grant Hart make this a must buy for any Husker Du fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Spaciously coiled, sonic tension, brainy brawn
One of the first CDs I bought was Rykodisc's 1987 MoB complete compilation; it was at the time the longest CD yet issued! The sound on that, I thought, could not be bettered, but after waiting a while to buy the remastered EP, this is not a cash-in job simply getting you to pay for the album again in (for me) its third form (counting my vinyl). I tend not to 'upgrade' a CD unless absolutely convinced it's one needing improvement. On this, I admit I gambled. I thought MoB sounded fine on that pioneering CD, but this re-issue nearly a decade later shows the sound's tighter and ratcheted up a bit more in intensity.
5-0 out of 5 stars the pinnacle of post-punk
I first encountered Burma on the radio; "Academy fight Song" and "Revolver" were actually "hits" on a major Boston radio station -- this being waaay back in the day before Clearchannel bought up everything and radio became the same sucky suck on every channel. Good catchy punk songs, they grab you quickly. (Though "Academy" really reveals its multi-tracked mystery in headphones...) It wasn't till some time later, coming down on clear MIT-blotter acid one misty dawn, that I heard "Signals, Calls, and Marches" in full, but when i did, it completely redefined what I thought was possible with a guitar, a bass, and some drums. (And tape loops, aaah, the tape loops...) "Revolver" pulls you in with its angular intensity, shakes you around ("and now the sky is empty, but that is nothing new..."), then leaves you hanging on this melancholy chord, which --before you ever have time to process it-- has Peter Prescott pushing you with his kick drum into "Outlaw", which kicks in with a jagged, ideologically choppy riff. "Fame and Fortune" rolls in on an epic, moody wave, and build in intensity before crashing into this haunting, spacious breakdown that has Roger pulling all sorts of sounds out of his guitar. And for two guys who never really put technique before passion in their vocals, Roger & Clint always come up with these rough harmonies that seem all the more effective for rising out of a sea of noise. (Something Husker Du would later take to the bank...) Side 2 (oops, showing my age) kicks off with "This Is Not A Photograph" which features Dada-esque lyrics, an absolutely PRIMAL riff, and some sicksickSICK slide guitar plunges from Roger."Red" is a journey through all sorts of terrain; "there's a window in my head", don't you know it. This one starts off thrashing, and dissolves into this abstract chaos, a looping octave-jumping bassline with a completely note-free guitar-solo, and swirling loops of vocal madness that just take this BEYOND. Then it all comes down with the chiming, double-guitar chords of "All World Cowboy Romance", perhaps Burma's most melodic track, and all without a vocal (except for their trademark "oohs" in the background...) Rhytmically, structurally, tonally, lyrically, this band was capable ofstuff I haven't heard anyone equal since. (OK, well UZI and early Sonic Youth came close.) But with this band, it all came down to an indefinable mad passion and intensity, and that comes across clearly on this record. I remember deciding to listen to this every day for 100 days straight, and I did, because I wasn't sure I'd ever hear anything as good and I wanted to savor this album, to burn it into my brain so deeply that it would cut the grooves on the grey matter. To this day, I can hear this album note for note in my head, and that's an intimacy I have declined to share with any other record.

4-0 out of 5 stars Shenanigans is petty good.
This cd was pretty ok, most of the songs were catchy and punk style, but i also wish they could of put the lyrics to the songs in the booklet! Oh well, pretty good album to add to your Green Day collecion!

5-0 out of 5 stars "Ha Ha We're Not Dead Yet!"
You could fill 3 discs with the shenanigans of Green Day, and I'll admit they left a lot out on this album, but this is the ultimate prelude to the operatic, arena-rock smash hit to follow. Remember the good old punk days of Green Day with "Shenanigans".

Distilling Iggy Pop's work down to 17 songs is nearly impossible. Anyone with an interest in Mr. Pop should first pick up the Stooges albums before exploring his later solo years. This collection, however, includes enough highlights to satisfy a casual fan. The Stooges are lightly covered with the essential punk anthem "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and the manic "Search and Destroy."The inclusion of the slinking "Sick of You" is a nice touch.Pop's pop leanings pop up with "Nightclubbing," "China Girl," and "Lust for Life," tracks in which the guitars are toned down a notch and Iggy exhibits a slightly more mellow side. Of course, he ultimately returns with a vengeance befitting one of rock's original wild men. Read more

..if you are a complete DORK! Iggy Pop changed his name from James Osterberg when he found out he was too dumb to spell it correctly. He was also a member of The Stooges but that group was never the same after Curley died.
2-0 out of 5 stars Overrated.
I never really saw what was so great about Iggy Pop.
3-0 out of 5 stars embarrassing evidence of how aging causes one to suck
When I got this album, I truly thought that Iggy Pop was the perfect candidate for a greatest hits compilation. He's got a dozen decent hits scattered across a dozen mediocre albums, and it would seem logical that gathering those songs together would produce one nearly perfect album.

When the Ramones left the confines of CBGB's in 1976--where they had developed their earmark three-chord speed delivery--and took the show on the road to England, they set the punk-rock juggernaut rolling. It can't be stressed enough how influential these boys from Forest Hills, Queens, were on Britain's emerging punk-rock scene, but a few seconds into Read more

Originally only available an imported LP, the group had already achieved legendary status in the New York City punk/new-wave scene throughperformances at CBGB's, which heavily influenced the UK punk movement.
5-0 out of 5 stars in your face
if you are looking for an in your face live ramones album, this is it. all 28 tracks recorded in 77 with all four org. members. the songs are wicked fast, bass and drums are slamming and the raw energy you feel off this record will have you set to go for the day. if your a ramones fan then if you don't have it, buy it. if you want to understand what punk was about and started then this, and rocket to russia will help you understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Absolute Peak Live
There's something about the Ramones that makes them enjoyable. The innocence of their early songs and the fact that their early infulences were 60's based music may have something to do with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Angry Rancid
This is by far Rancid's most "punk rock" album. It is very fast, ver hard, and most of the songs sound very angry. It's a lot different from the other albums, once again continuing Rancid's ever shifting genre.Good album.

2-0 out of 5 stars ehhhh
this is by far the worst rancid record. people calling it a return to the bands earlier sound could not be further from the truth. this album sounds NOTHING like "lets go" or their s/t effor..it doens't even sound like 7" they point out on lookout records back in '92.Lars' voice sounds like total crap..i usually love the tracks he does vocals on. but i don't like a single song on here that he sings...he's trying to scream way to much instead of actually signing.there are a few pretty cool songs "black hawk down" "radio havana" "black derby jacket"but the bad songs realy really take away from the good...i always felt that this record was sort of in repsonse for some fans reaction to "life won't wait" (amazing album) but i could be wrong...overall..just not that impressed...I just gotta say i read a few other reviews below...i think someone said something how this album had "a lil dub influence" yeah i don't see it. No i mean there is not an ounce of dub on here. just thought i'd point on that

4-0 out of 5 stars a bit of a change of pace, but a fresh breath of air!
even though they are classics, lets go, life wont wait, and out come the wolves all contained the poppy worn out rancid that we have all grown to love...but life wont wait, still being really good, was starting to lag behind compared to the previous two....now along comes this album and it is a complete hardcore in your face album that really rejuvenates them.

In some ways, singer-songwriter Patti Smith seems an unlikely choice for a full-bore anthology. After all, she's had only one charting single with "Because the Night." Even at that time, most people probably were more familiar with Gilda Radner's spot-on parody of her on Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars LAND/Patti Smith
PATTI SMITH is a forerunner of the punk movement before it had entered pop culture. She has always been uncompromising in her often-devastating attack on the false values of commercialist society.LAND is the result of a 30-year career that has excited & delighted the turned-on & the open minded-and outraged the bourgeoisie. It was not uncommon for family-value, morality police to call in the cops to prevent her performing in their narrow-minded little towns. LAND is a double disk CD containing not only the singer's most popular hits, but there are also outtakes from such hits as Redondo Beach and a live version of 25th Floor. Patti sometimes seems to effectively channel a male persona, and her howl in Boy Cried Wolf-that could be corny-is chilling. LAND also features a beautiful rendition When Doves Cry penned by Prince.
5-0 out of 5 stars Completely satisfying!
Usually greatest hits collections don't saitisfy me much, but this one is an exception. Perfection! All the basic songs are here and the second disc has AMAZING studio outtakes, live takes, and demos. And the new cover of "When Doves Cry" is absolute perfection. Great! Great! Great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Patti Smiths' "Land"
Excellent collection from this exciting singer/writer. Only one serious letdown: Where is the song Land itself, aka Horses? The absence of her haunting and thrilling masterpiece is weird and disappointing. "The boy was in the hallway drinking a glass of tea...The boy looked at Johnny, Johnny wanted to run,Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars And to Think John Doe became an actor.
Emerging out of the early 80's punk scene X was much more talented then their punk brethren. Poet Exene Cervenka and John Doe's slightly off key harmonies somehow add the missing ingredient into the mixture of pop punk and pure rock and roll. Similarities to Beefheart and the Ramones cannot go unnoticed, but with lyrics like "I'll replace your drunk old man" (White Girl) it's suffice to say they have lyrically matured from the first album. "When Our Love Passed Out On The Couch" exemplifies what everyone has felt when a relationship goes sour. Get out your Docs and skank around the couch as the neighbors downstairs call the cops.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely no Second Album Slump
One of the biggest impressions I got from this album on first hearing is that it's much sadder than their debut. One quick comparison of the dangerhouse/rough mix of Adult Books on LA and the album release on Wild Gift will bear this out. However, John Doe's bouncy bass lines (In This House That I Call Home) nicely balance out some of the more down songs. and Exene and John's harmonies are too die for. is there any band better than X at mixing rockabilly, punk and country? I don't think so.

4-0 out of 5 stars Second Review
After giving this album a second run, I change my opinion. This is a pretty good album, and the newer mix brings it all together. And while I still believe that "So Alone" and the Dolls first album are superior, I've come to appreciate this album on its own terms.Better than most other punk.High level of musicianship on Johnny's part (no pun intended.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock 'n' roll bloodbath
Catchy, powerful, brutal, funny, lo-fi, punk, not punk. Who cares? This album rocks. The vocals sound desperate. The guitars are dirty. And there's a murderous cover of "Do You Love Me?".

This is one of johnny thunders best albums period. all the songs are extremley good, i have the "revisited" version which was relesed earlier but is esentualy the same cd. One of the best songs by far on the album is "pirate love" a catchy rock n' roll tune that will please any person who trully knows and loves rock n' roll. "born to lose" another classic. "chinese rocks" which was actualy writen with Dee Dee Ramone form the ramones and Richard Hell both of whom are also great artists.
