5-0 out of 5 stars The World Begins to Disappear...
Counting Crows are an absolute blast of a band to listen to or play along with. Ever begining guitarist needs to learn Mr. Jones for it's immediatly recognizable party appeal, and almost every other song on this disk can be played by a single acoustic just as well. Films about Ghosts presents a bouncy set of Counting Crows best songs, combing 90's alt pop with a bit of lyrical genius to form an irresistable combo.

5-0 out of 5 stars This album is just great!
This album is excellent, this new version also has "Accidentally in Love" that is a cool song too.

Editorial Review

After Chris Hillman dragged new friend Gram Parsons into the Byrds, they made an album as close to a country masterpiece as a rock act could ever make. In fact, the only tunes better than the definitive covers here of songs by Bob Dylan ("You Ain't Going Nowhere"), Guthrie ("Pretty Boy Floyd"), and the Louvin Brothers ("The Christian Life") are Parsons's originals, especially the incomparable "Hickory Wind." 3-0 out of 5 stars Heretic #2
Gram was pretty (say what you want but that's part of it), now he's dead but he still can't sing.Everybody's riding that wagon about how important this album is and that's an arguable point, but get back to the music and while I still occasionally enjoy hearing a bunch of good ole hippie's try country, it's pretty much amateur hour compared to MH, JC, WJ, and WN. The Stones did a lot better "country" than this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Influential - stands the test of time
At a time when rock bands were beginning to explore other genres, The Byrds released rhis record which took them back to their country roots. A fabulous blend of originals and covers the approach led the way for the country-rock revival of the early 70's and influenced a host of bands not the least of which was the Grateful Dead who's American Beauty rivals this as the best of the bunch.
5-0 out of 5 stars McGuinn's radical masterpiece...
About 30 years ago BYRDMASTER Roger McGuinn got sick of David Crosby's antics and kicked him out of--next to the Beach Boys--America's most successful band.THE NOTORIOUS BYRD BROTHERS is arguably(orginal formation)The Byrds most accomplished studio album and matched-well against Brian Wilson's triumphant GOOD VIBRATIONS(which was to be coda of only recently completed SMILE. Wilson's nervous breakdown is pop legend in its own right, and his vindication as artist is now indisputable. The irony of THE BYRDS

This is a great listening CD!I really loved the collection of hits!Being a newcomer to CS, starting with Youth and thenimmediately following with this CD, it gave me such great insight into the band's music and what they were all about.Because I really got hooked on this CD, I then had to go back in time and do some soul searching with all of their previous albums, which I am so grateful that I did.I'm now such a great fan of theirs and just love their music.Buy this CD, you truly can't go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing, haunting, almost gothic at times
Ever since i listened to Don't Follow, Nutshell, and Rotten Apple, I like AIC better than Nirvana, Nutshell has some of the best acoustics crossed with distortion ever, very haunting, almost ambient at times, the lyrics are really good too, Along with the crossover song Don't Follow, which is the only song that i like that has harmanicas in it, it's acutally kind of a feel good song, but the lyrics aren't and the acoustics are outstanding, Rotten Apple is also very haunting with some of the best acoustics crossed with distortion that i've heard, almost a gothic touch up to it. Whale and Wasp is an exquisite instrumental, it has no singing, which i don't listen to much. Overall you will be impressed, this album is totally underrated, and overlooked.

5-0 out of 5 stars What I hear is unreal!
I am not really good at describing things as a whole, but I can rate each track individually to give you all a good idea of how I feel about this album.
1-0 out of 5 stars I would swat 6 of these flies as
They are no good. The first 6 songs are terrible. I know 2 hits came off of this: "No Excuses", and "I Stay Away", but they stink as well as "Whales and Wasp". It's a shame that they rushed this out after breaking through big time with "Dirt", but I guess the label knew best. The best on here is "Swing On This". This is another bad memory of my first few months in FL. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatness Defined
AllI can say about this CD is WOW!! This is one of the legendary bands to come out of the "Grunge" era. This CD has everything you could ask for in an acoustic set. Stanley's vocal power is not lost even though he is in a durg induced haze and a downward spin that would evenually cost him his life.Jerry Cantrell's guitar play is in a word Awesome. It is too bad that Stanley had to die before Alice came into the greatness they so richly deserve. I would highly recomend this CD to anyone who loves Alice in Chains as well as people that realy enjoy acoustic sets.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I remember when this came out. I thought it was late into the game because it was 1996 and grunge was over. Looking back on it now 1994 and 1996 wasn't a huge time difference, but when your a kid its eternity. Excellent album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
Alice in Chains "Unplugged" is my favorite MTV Unplugged. It was recorded, as you all probably know, after a three year hiatus from the stage. Even though vocalist Layne Staley wouldn't die until six years later, he looked strung out and weak throughout the show. That doesn't keep him from delivering a powerful vocal performance though. While I recommend the DVD over this, because you see the outtakes (like when Staley messes up on Sludge Factory and Mike Inez's message to Metallica written on his bass guitar). While there's a few songs I wish they would've done on this show, there's none that I would get rid of. There's nothing off their first album (Facelift), but there's plenty off their next three (Dirt, Jar of Flies, Alice in Chains). This is a great CD to burn some insence to in the dark and just zone out. Here's the tracks:

    Editorial Review

Most holidays exclude somebody--on grounds of religious beliefs, political persuasion, or refusal to eat our fine feathered friends--but not good old Halloween, which has a little something for everyone. The same can be said of this 15-track collection, which spans modern music's sonic and sensory spectrums. It encompasses the noisy and danceable, nasty and nice. Most of the set is given over to party-ready tunes like the B-52's' "Devil in My Car" and the Ramones' "Pet Sematary," but its darker corners offer up a few eerie moments--such as MX-80 Sound's rendition of the horror classic "Theme from Halloween" and Sonic Youth's "Halloween." The disc closes on an appropriately creepy note thanks to horror master Roky Erickson, who spins a cautionary yarn called "Creature with the Atom Brain" that's guaranteed to cause more nightmares than a Milk Dud overdose. New Wave Halloween has the best halloween music i've heard. I like this cd a lot it has good music and i love Halloween. It has The Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, wich is the best song on this cd and the best song from a Musical Movie. This Cd Rocks Like Halloween.
5-0 out of 5 stars Twisted Halloween fun!
Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Halloween is probably their best entry in that it will have the broadest appeal.A lively party of Halloween-themed music, it swings from the danceable to the dangerous, sometimes with little or no warning.

Recently I heard "Blue Moon" on the radio and was taken away to "another land".It was so beautiful.I searched online, found it was the Mavericks that recorded it and immediately ordered the CD.The entire CD has spectacular cuts on it.These hits were originally recorded when I was quite young (the 50's), but they're just as fresh as the latest popular Country music of today.Foot stompin', dream away, smooth, an excellent variety in this collection.I can't get enough of it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars give it a chance...
When i first got this cd, i was hesitant... i loved the first two albums but this one was an obvious departure from their previous material. suprisingly, when teamed with Metallica/Motley Crue producer, Bob Rock, the band lost a lot of its heavier "chuga chuga" guitar sound that was first heard on the band's debut album 'The Fake Sound of Progress'. Because of this, 'Liberation Transmission's first few listens may not be what Lostprophet fans are expecting. However, after a couple spins, it is evident that the band has grown together and found their sound. This album explores more melodies and harmonizing which in turn makes the music viciously catchy. Although it may be a dispointing departure for die-hard fans, if you give it a chance it is just as catchy and rocking as the previous cds. Overall, i still think i like 'Start Something' a bit more because of its heavier vibe...but everytime i listen to this album it gets better. Give it a chance and you'll catch yourself singing along whether you like it or not.
5-0 out of 5 stars Liberation Transmission everything i expected plus more
Now I just want to say I have never written a review, but I have to say that this cd made me write a review because it is so good. Yeah people say it relates to Start Something, their previous cd, but this cd just rocks. I dont know about anyone else, but I loved start something and I was hoping to hear sort of the same thing. The cd starts off with everyday combat settin the tone for the cd. It just explodes with sound and they just do their thing by rocking out. I cant say there are any bad songs because there isnt one. I have listened to this cd every single day since it came out. I really recommend people buy this cd because it is worth the money.
4-0 out of 5 stars Welsh rockers exchange agression for melody on LP3.
Behind the fashionable exterior of skinny ties and painstakingly sculpted hair, Lostprophets are a band that knows how to write a pop song. Every aspect of the young post-hardcore band recalls their hip contemporary image: from their designer clothes to the designer melodies of the twelve radio ready songs on Liberation Transmission, Lostprophets are indisputable proof that style is its own substance.

I cannot imagine how these two could surpass the beauty of this effort. Proof that true craftsmanship does not need big arrangements. You will not notice the sparse instrumentation while you are listening, and maybe they could carry the songs vocally without any instruments at all.As for the songs your heart will be broken and mended again by the end.

Really good , especially Elvis Presley Blues. Could listen to it over & over. What a voice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Understated so the power of purity can reach us.
This CD by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings is a wonderful paradox. At time sounding country, at times blues, and at others sounding folk. The delivery is often understated, underproduced so that the spare purity and the eloquent sincerity of voice, lyric, and instrumentation blaze more brightly.

A new album from Hank Williams III is always a revelation: first, because it came out at all (his relationship with his label is as stormy as the marriage of his legendary grandparents); and second, because of its content and execution. So it's something of a miracle to see a 2-CD set of some of III's most hardcore Hellbilly (as opposed to the relentless screaming of his Assjack), especially as a number of the songs had been scheduled to appear on his unreleased 2003 album

These are all great emotional, introspective songs. I cannot recommend this album enough. Mary has a twang but somehow I can't imagine these songs without it. Only one song doesn't feel like it was written by a person with values sympathetic to mine. Mercy Now, Wheel Inside a Wheel (about Mardi Gras from a Cajun perspective) and I Drink will be classics.

Rodrigo(Valencia-SPAIN)

Absolutely loved this album from the first to the last track. It's all good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just plain great rock.
There are some out there who say that bands should sound the same on each new album, and there are some who say they should change and stay "fresh" on each new album (Tool, for example).Yeah, so Seether have mostly the same sound, same structure, same attitude on K&E as they did on Disclaimer.I say "great".I like listening to Seether because they are Seether. The sound is about the same, but the songs are different. This album is a touch heavier than Disclaimer, which is awesome. But the lyrics are also better and the ballads are more emotional for the most part. How can anyone complain?Well, the fact remains that this is one of the few bands out there who've gotten popular and still, on their second album, sound like they recorded in a garage on most songs. But hey, that's their sound and I love it, so I won't say that it's a bad thing.I would recommend seeing Seether live - they are just so energetic and powerful, plus you'll usually get to hear a great beefed-up Nirvana cover (considering Shaun's voice tends to sound exactly like Kurt at times). ... COPPERHEAD ROAD is the best album ever by Steve Earle, blending influences from such artists as Johnny Cash, the Charlie Daniels Band, Waylon Jennings, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Willie Nelson, the Marshall Tucker Band, Tompall Glaser, the Outlaws, Billy Joe Shaver, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Band, and the AllmanBrothers Band circa BROTHERS AND SISTERS with a touch of alternative attitude, creating the best country-rock sound this side of the 70s Southern Rock boom. The songs on side one are a loose suite based on the experiences of Vietnam veterans during and after the war, with several lines in the title track being so cautionary about the dangers of going where you shouldn't be that they inspire me to look at pictures of pretty actresses as a deterrent against hanging out on the wrong side of the city where I currently live (Kingston, NY). Earle's belief that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia on drug-smuggling charges was unjustly convicted makes this an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as it ought to be
This is merely a fistful of Nirvana's most overplayed songs thrown together on a CD. It doesn't flow well as an album and isn't really a great selection of songs either. About half came from In Utero and I would highly recommend that you purchase that instead. It flows infinitely better and consequently the same songs sound better on it. Also, it has the electric version of "All Apologies" whereas this has the unplugged, which isn't as effective in my opinion.
2-0 out of 5 stars And why, exactly ... ?
Nirvana's deepest desire was to be indie rock, and appreciated as such. To be more than a trendy, ultracommercial mega-band with predictably loud, thrashy songs with a slick production, ready for the radio. They were punk rock. They were anti-establishment, anti-corporate, and -- to their ultimate destruction -- anti-fame, fortune, and stardom.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Long-Awaited Single Disc Nirvana Collection
Nirvana rocks. Lead singer Kurt Cobain was fueled not by fame and celebrity but by expereience and true emotion. The band was the leading part of the Seattle grunge movement.

    Editorial Review

Garage-rock hero Jack White producing honky-tonk legend Loretta Lynn? And Lynn comparing him to renowned Nashville producer Owen Bradley? Yes, we all know the world is rapidly shrinking, but now we've seen everything. Most stunning of all--they nailed it. For the first time, Lynn has written all of an album's songs, and her lyrics are as cutting and incisive as ever. On the powerful, biting "Family Tree," she brings her babies to the home of her husband's mistress so that they can see the "woman that's burning down our family tree." Throughout she cunningly tackles tried-and-true honky-tonk themes of love gone bad, drinkin', cheatin', and murder. Lynn even offers a compelling slice of theological fatalism ("God Makes No Mistakes"). White's production--mostly stark and atmospheric--ranges from more-traditional country to straight-up White Stripes, with most tracks falling somewhere in between. White duets with Lynn on the rousing one-night-stand story "Portland, Oregon," but he does not need to sing to leave his personal stamp. At 70, Lynn seems thoroughly engaged and delighted; at times she delivers some of the most emotionally potent singing of her career. A decade earlier, Johnny Cash turned to rock and rap producer Rick Rubin, and the move resuscitated Cash's career. Now, Jack White has done the same for Loretta Lynn, another country legend whose music is simply too raw and honest for the contemporary country crowd. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An album that is as brilliant as it is improbable
Who'd a thunk it?Loretta Lynn, the grande dame of country music, retired for most of a decade with only a single mediocre album to show for her return to the business after her husband's death, teaming with punk-garage genius Jack White to produce the best album of her career.I only recently discovered this beauty of a disc.I had Lynn's MCA collection ALL TIME GREATEST HITS, which contained about all of the Loretta Lynn I ever expected to own.But going on a White Stripes binge lately it suddenly inspired me to sample the album I remembered he had done with Lynn.It simply bowled me over.
5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
Loretta Lynn rocks.Awesome cd."Portland Oregon" is one of the best songs I have heard in a long, long, time.No one says "Oregon" like Loretta.Rock on, Loretta!

5-0 out of 5 stars Yeah, Hey!
It is the rare CD that leaves me wanting more.It is rarer still that I hear anything out of Nashville that engages me, period.

    5-0 out of 5 stars "A MASTERPIECE!"
Carencro is so good that it concerns me what he may have up his sleeve. How could someone improve - but then again, if anyone could - Marc Broussard could. I first heard of this artist on "The Late, Late Show" and was truly blown away. I not only purchased this CD the very next day, I proceeded to purchase atleast 10 more to give to friends - not including the same # of his other CD, Momentary Setback. I also had the chance to catch his tour in Boston last summer - He is something to behold: An Amazing stage presence. Every Damn Song Is Perfect - well written, sung, produced, etc. He is proof reincarnation is possible. His talent is unique, rare and MUST BE HEARD BY EVERYONE! It pains me to know of other artists of much less skill, ability getting more exposure. *MARC, PLSE COME BACK TO THE EAST COAST VERY SOON!*

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing and Versatile Voice
I loved this refreshing and original album. True, these songs are not all the same style; but versatility marks real talent. I love the variety. Home is great, also Hope for Me Yet, Where You Are, and Saturday. Marc has a great feel for pop, rock, and soul. What a delightful mix of sound!
