5-0 out of 5 stars Ecstatic Drone
This CD presents a different sort of ambience. The first, 44-min. track consists of a continuous pulsating drone, gradually rising & falling in intensity, with accompanying gentle sitar melodies. The rest of the CD offers a steady (as opposed to pulsating) drone with a high, moog-like accompanyment. There are no vocals. The whole CD presents a mystic vibe--and dares your mind to merge with it...with meditative ecstasy the desired result...if you can dig it.Upon repeated listenings, this music works its way into your brain like a gentle bliss-drill---and that's when true enjoyment kicks in. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Some of it barely sounds like polka
Some of the album has a definite polka sound, but a few trackshave such a heavy rock influence it doesn't barely sound like polka at all."Come Back to Me" and "Pretty Dancing Girl" are examples, and two fine songs. The "Polka Medley" is great.I wish they would do some of those songs individually. Some of the record even sounds vaguely like ska music.I would highly recommend this to any younger listener of polka, and anyone who likes to dance polka. It may even appeal to some listeners of lighter core ska.

4-0 out of 5 stars The future of modern polka music.
This is a fine example of a robust live performance by a superb, energeticmodern polka band.Renditions of the High Bounce Polka and the PeanutsPolka are true classics in the fast tempo "Eastern Style" ofpolka. This collection could possibly be the best example in its appeal tothe modern polka listener of the future. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Live Side
I held off buying this CD because I already had all the studio stuff and thought the live set without Damon Edge would be lame - I was Dead Wrong. The players assembled for the live shows faithfully recreate Chrome's sound from the mid-90's and add some outstanding embellishment on many of the songs. I've played the live CD so loud and so many times the neighbors have finally stopped coming by to see what's exploding over here. If you are any type of Chrome fan, buy this for the live side - it will jam your fossil.

4-0 out of 5 stars Crazy studio junk and a smokin live set from venus

Editorial Review

This chapter of Pearl Jam's grandiose scheme to foil pirates and charm their hard-core fans by releasing complete documentation of their 2000 tour finds the band a bit more ragged and raw than on the first night of their Wembley Arena stand, but that only adds to the drama. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Too many shortcomings
There's a lot not to like about this show. Start with some unfortunate lyrical stumbles on Corduroy, Dissident, and In Hiding early in the set- the latter is absolutely ruined, which is a shame because it's such a great song. Just as importantly, the encore is a scant six songs- this would be great for any other band, but for Pearl Jam, it's a night off. By ending the set with six standards, it was no doubt a crowd-pleasing show, but it wouldn't have killed them to throw a "Baba O'Riley" or "Yellow Ledbetter" at the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant bootleg for all die-hards of Pearl Jam!
Pearl Jam is the best live band on the planet. This is an incredible concert that will be looked for years from now, when it's out of print. The band is flawless, energetic, playful, but most of all outstanding. Some of the band's most enigmatic material is on display in this rare experience. Classics like SOmetimes, Hail, Hail, ANimal, Habit, Off he Goes, not For you, Immortality, ALive ( a brilliant performance), Black. Oh, I could go on all day long. This is the band at one of its finest moments. Rock on, pearl Jam!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I was there!
This is my favourite bootleg from the series because I was at this gig & it was the first time I'd ever seen PJ live. The atmosphere was beautiful, total strangers hugged me during the show & said things like 'isn't this fantastic!' It was the first time the band had played in England for about 10 years & most of us had waited that long to see them. Every time I listen to this CD it brings back the rapturous happiness of that night.Read more

Editorial Review

Connoisseurs of sludgy, guitar-driven noise-pop revere the first three Dinosaur (the first two of which were originally released without the Jr. appendage) full-lengths with all the awe duly afforded Crazy Horse, Meat Puppets,Dream Syndicate, and My Bloody Valentine. With 8 of the 10 stripped-down songs hailing from those first 3 albums and recorded while Lou Barlow melodically assaulted bass and Murph played drums, this disc revisits the band at their peak. As Byron Coley rhapsodizes in the sleeve notes, singer-guitarist J Mascis and band "gave voice to the previously inchoate art-soul of hardcore, imbuing their music with a range of emotion without sacrificing its impenetrable surface." Previously the province of bootlegs, these BBC sessions are rawer and more tightly wound than their album counterparts--notable on the revved "Budge" and Barlow-crooned "Does It Float." The xylophone added to the hair-flying anthem "No Bones" is a nice touch, and the two mellow songs from 1992--recorded with Mike Johnson--do not suck. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars very cool
I love this cd it has all the stuff that is worth listening to for dinosaur my favorite was in a jar it sounded more grungy then the origanal so did get me and bulbs of passion. This was very cool I highly recommend this.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Disc
If you like Dinosaur like I do. Nice sound quality, and Great selection of songs from the YLAOM/BUG era, it is a little short- only about 36 minutes but that doesnt effect how many stars i give it. I just throw this in my three disc changer with Youre living all over me and Dinosaur, and hit the continous button it all sound great to me i really enjoy it and you will to if you are a D.J fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile release for fans
This is a great document of several live-in-the-studio Dinosaur, Jr. performances, most (all?) of them done for John Peel's famous BBC radio show.A lot of these tracks have been available previously only throughbootlegs. The songs are selected mostly from the "You're Living AllOver Me" and "Bug" era.The quality of the recordings arenot spectacular, but they are definitely very listenable.Sometimes theguitar is not as high in the mix as you'd like, and sometimes the vocal orbass might not be high enough, but in general these are clean recordingsthat you will have no trouble listening to over and over again.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Bombshell
Everyone knows that "Grace" is one hell of an album, but just as deserving of attention is this less popular early EP from the Buckley collection. With 4 tracks, clocking in at around 27 minutes, this cannot be beat for the five dollars you can pick it up for. 'Mojo Pin' is just as good here as it is on Grace, but this solo rendition is much more haunting than on his proper debut LP.It's drenched in mountains of reverb and is amazingly ghost-like.'Eternal Life' contains just as much intensity as it does on it's full-band counterpart recorded later. While the cover of 'Je N'en Connais Pas La Fin' is fine and reveals Buckley's penchant for choosing eclectic covers, the real high-note here is his 10 minute cover of Van Morrison's 'The Way Young Lovers Do'.It is a masterpiece of improvatory ferocity with Buckley strumming and scatting like a madman (and I dig that stunned silence of the crowd right after the song comes to a close).5-0 out of 5 stars Love Jeff = Love Sine-E
Sine-E is the essence of Jeff and his talent.I am thankful that Columbia released music capturing Jeff at the place and in the format that led to all of the buzz about him. Each track shows a unique side of his musical tastes and abilities. To make a statement that one track or another should be left off the cd is missing the point. The review indicating that there are other artists with a better range is accurate, but there is more to his voice than his range. If you are thinking of buying this cd, you may want to wait as this fall they are releasing 2 cds full of these recordings and others that were recorded at that same time.I was fortunate enough to preview this release and it will blow you away!

4-0 out of 5 stars A diamond in the rough
Add another star if you are truly a Jeff fan... that means beyond "Grace" i guess.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Frightening!

5-0 out of 5 stars The eight legs of the Devil will not let my people go.
In 1991, on the month of October, Diamanda Galas ascended the stage of New York City's Cathedral of St. John the Divine. There, she performed and recorded what may be the most memorable sound ritual ever to be heard by audiences. Both harrowing and angelic, "The Plague Mass" is a vocal exorcism birthed by a modern banshee. In most of the tracks, her operatic screams echo off the walls of the church, piercing the brain like flying shards of stained glass. Other moments allow her to disturb listeners with her hoarse, beastly hisses. However, Galas's intention was not merely to shock the religious. Instead, she turned the Holy Bible inside out in order to address the rampant suffering caused by AIDS. At a time when this disease was ruled as a divine punishment for gays and lesbians, Galas chose to spit gospel curses to every Christian responsible for persecuting and ostracizing HIV-infected patients. With candles flickering in the darkness, she speaks in manic tongues, vomiting forth a gospel hurricane that showed compassion to AIDS victims and unforgiveness to the viciously pious.
5-0 out of 5 stars All Music Guide Review
"Galas, who has been known for both her own work and as a singer of extremely demanding modern scores, has created this heart-wrenching cry about the physical suffering caused by the AIDS plague being compounded by the shameful arrogance of self-appointed moralists. Maintaining an incredible intensity and depth for over an hour's solo vocal (recorded live at The Cathedral of St. John The Divine, NYC, with suitably minimal band and electronics backup), Galas proceeds through Mahalia Jackson-influenced spiritual singing, saxophone-like wails, to dramatic dialogues in many dialects and languages ("there are no more tickets to the funeral") to engrossing Portugese "fado" singing to taking on the attributes of Satan (in "Sono L'Antichristo," I Am The Anti-Christ) in order to challenge the concept of a vengeful, instead of compassionate deity (and society), much as Nina Simone did in her controversial song "God is a Killer" in the 60's... the Mass ends with the heart-felt lyrics "I go to sleep each evening now dreaming of the grave and see the friends I used to know calling out my name. O Lord Jesus, do you think I've served my time?"" ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing, loud, and inspiring
This cd is simply amazing. The songs on this disc have so much more energy than their "warning" studio album. the songs here are filled with so much emotion form billie joe's lyrics that you can tell what he sings he really means. the crowd in this cd just adds to the amazing and unique sound green day gives in this disc. the music is all about inspirationothing less and that harmonica part in "minority" is simply brilliant, not to mention it would be quite hard not to sing along to all the songs in this album. a must for any green day fan and well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD!!!
This is a great CD!!!The songs are great picks to make into a live CD.The crowd is also screaming and chanting throughout the entire CD, which gives it more energy.Church On Sunday is awsome live, a must hear for any fan.Castawy is one of the best on the CD, evnen though he stops in the middle to get the crowd chanting.Blood, Sex, and Booze is very good.King For a Day is funny and it has an awsome beat to it.Waiting is also one of the greatest "new" Green Day song, and I was happy to see they put in on a live CD because it sounds s lot better live.Minoriy is also good, but they stop in the middle to get the crowd chanting.Macy's Day Parade is THE best song on this entire CD.It has a different soound to it, but a better one, and it's an aswsome CD finisher.I highly recomend this D to anyone, even if you're not sure if you like Green Day.Also, another great CD to buy is Foot in Mouth, by Green Day.It has their earlier songs on it, and both of these CDs are Live, which makes it 100 times better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Iggy Pop - 'Sister Midnight' (Cleopatra)
Another decent archive performance from the Igster.'Sister Midnight' was recorded live at the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland,Ohio.THIS was the tour in which David Bowie played piano and supplied some of the back-up vocals.I remember reading an article about this in the old Rock Scene 'zine.Notice that most of the twelve songs here do appear to have a bit of a different arrangement than previously released versions. Most of the standouts are in fact Stooge numbers like "Raw Power","Search 'N Destroy","TV Eye","Gimme Danger" and "No Fun".This is in FACT a soundboard recording.Very nice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Iggy's finest!
This is a rollicking rollercoaster of a performance.2-0 out of 5 stars I DARE YOU TOSTAY AWAKE THROUGH THIS ALBUM.
YOU'VE ALREADY GOT THE 'STOOGES', 'FUNHOUSE', 'RAW POWER', AND 'METALLIC K.O.'. YOU'VE SIFTED THROUGH HOURS OF POORLY RECORDED (YET GLORIOUS) DEMOS, OUTTAKES, AND LIVE SHOWS. YOU CRAVE MORE. ALTHOUGH YOU WERE DISAPPOINTED WITH IGGY'S BOWIE PRODUCED (FIRST TWO, NOT COUNTING THE SUPERIOR 'KILL CITY')SOLO ALBUMS, YOU THOUGHT PERHAPS LIVE VERSIONS OF THOSE SONGS WOULD BE A LITTLE MORE RAW, A LITTLE MORE IGGY. THROW IN LIVE STOOGES CLASSICS WITH BETTER FIDELITY AND YOU CAN'T LOSE, RIGHT? WRONG. TURN BACK NOW. LIKE LOU REED'S 'ROCK N ROLL ANIMAL', THIS ALBUM CONTAINS ..., DILUTED VERSIONS OF RIGHTEOUS CLASSICS WITH WEAK NEW MATERIAL STREWN THROUGHOUT. COP YOUR FIX ELSEWHERE. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Cold night but good performance
I bought this concert because I was there that night.I'm glad PJ made the show available to us fans.It was a super cold night and it wasn't their best performance but I'd rather have this then a crappy tshirt!

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting Pretty Tired
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This San Bernardino bootleg is one of the low points in the third leg of the massive 2000 tour. Granted, at 66th out of 72 shows, the band was understandably very tired. This show and the next one in Sacramento show clearly how tired the band was, before they got a last rush of adrenaline to finish the final four or five shows with a bang. In a very unusual move, the band starts tonight's show with "Rearviewmirror," which was almost always used to close the first or second set. Surprisingly, opening the show with this rave-up actually works, instrumental jam session and all. Unfortunately, after a pretty good start, this performance starts to drag with sluggish tempos and many musical errors. Things bottom out in the encore, with horrendous takes on "Insignificance" and "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter..." which are full of bum notes and forgotten lyrics. The band does manage to perk up a little before the end of the show though, with strong takes on "Crazy Mary" and the cool B-side "U." Watch for Eddie's chant of "let's hear it for LOVE!" during the jam in "Daughter," which is about as cheesy as Robert Plant's plea for people to remember laughter in classic live recordings of "Stairway to Heaven." One interesting aspect of this bootleg is the presence of one very loud-mouthed fellow near the soundboard, who manages to say the F-word many times on tape. Good for him.

4-0 out of 5 stars First Review...great music
I'm surprised no one has reviewed this album yet.I just purchased it, and absolutely enjoy it.It was a good set, great music. Not one bad song on the album. There probably are better tour bootlegs availible, but this is a good one, despite the lack of the symbol in the corner that marks the "best" albums.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Paul Revere Isn't Riding Tonight
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This second bootleg from Boston is a little weaker than its predecessor, and suffers for a very un-enthusiastic performance by the band. There is trouble right from the beginning of the show, as the band forgets to perform a large chunk of "Release," and the song ends in utter confusion. Things perk up with strong renditions of "Animal" and "Hail Hail" early on, plus a surprise "In My Tree." But the band continues its unstructured and out-of-sync ways with the jam session in "Daughter," which suffers from a lack of cohesion in which nobody in the band can decide which way to go with the jam. Disc two begins with dreadfully out-of-tune takes on "Insignificance" and "Black," with first Eddie Vedder and then Mike McCready making major errors on guitar. This is a problem that also wrecks the closer, Young Neil's "Rockin' in the Free World," which is not the barnstormer that it is in the band's other renditions. As compared to all of the other bootlegs in this massive series, some just have to be below average, and unfortunately this is one of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
I attended the Boston show on the previous night, 8/29/00, so this was my first opportunity to hear the second show 8/30/00.As soon as the opening riffs of "Release" began on this album I got chills and a knot in my stomach.Eddie and the PJ crew continue to amaze me.This concert played a greater variety of their older stuff whereas the night before consited of more songs from Binural. Both are awesome and a must for any PJ fan, especially one living in New England!:)

5-0 out of 5 stars I cried
This was my 5th time seeing the greatest band in the world, and the second night at Great Woods (as we know and love it) was ten times better than the first night. Not to say that ANY show they do is bad! But the second night just had a totally different feeling to it. The first night was much more mellow and low key, but right from the start of the second night they ROCKED non-stop. I couldn't believe how hard and loud they kept it going. It was amazing. I was dancing in the aisles all night! My favorite song of the night being "Not for You". When I finally got my cd from tenclub, I put it in my cd player in my car and I couldn't believe the emotions that swept through me all over again. The quality was so beautiful it just brought me back there all over again and I began to cry. I will never forget those nights. Thank you to the people who decided to put these bootlegs out. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I was there
Here's my review of the concert that was published in The Miami Herald on 8/11/00 and posted on my web site, wordsonwords.com
4-0 out of 5 stars Solid Show From the 2000 Tour
I think some reviewers are unduly harsh with many of these official bootlegs.Every show I've heard has great soundboard quality, a nice seperation of instruments and witty stage banter from Eddie Vedder. In fact, the live versions of songs like "Breakerfall", "God's Dice", "Evacuation" and "Pilate" make me like the songs, which I didn't care for in their original studio renditions.
3-0 out of 5 stars They Should Have Bussed this Audience to Tampa
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. When Pearl Jam offered fans the chance to listen to all 72 shows from the 2000 world tour on disc, they would have expected fans to notice the shows that were far below average. This is one of them. The people who went to this second of two concerts in West Palm Beach definitely did not see Pearl Jam at their best. This show is full of errors by all band members. Stone Gossard and Mike McCready are beset by out-of-tune guitars and fail to pull off the intricate interplay that is necessary in so many of PJ's better songs. Jeff Ament sounds sleepy and barely registers, and Eddie Vedder forgets many lyrics, mumbles others without putting in the effort, and applies extra buttery fingers to his guitar. Even the normally rock-solid Matt Cameron, who saves many a rusty show in this tour, commits several errors, especially with tempo and timing. The errors start to pile up right from the first song, "Of the Girl," which the band barely manages to complete. Other songs that collapse into destruction include "Pilate" and "Last Exit," both of which sound like the guys are in five different time zones. There are a few real winners tonight, especially "Once," "Gods' Dice," and "Black," but these rare moments of clarity fail to save this dying show. But what can you say, every single gig can't be a winner. Pearl Jam might have felt bad about this one, because at the next show in Tampa they delivered one of the most awesome and devastating performances in the entire tour. They should have put the folks who had the misfortune to see this West Palm Beach show on a bus to Tampa the next day, so they could see the Pearl Jam that they really paid for. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Quite as Hot as the Temperature
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. At several point in this show, Eddie Vedder mentions how hot it was that night. Perhaps the high temperature made the band a little sluggish. Eddie is very talkative and enthusiastic tonight, and the crowd holds up very well, but the musical performance on this bootleg is very average, with a slow-moving and tired feel overall. But what could have turned out to be a way below average show is saved by a very intriguing set list. Several songs that were played rarely elsewhere in the tour appear tonight, like "Gods' Dice," "Red Mosquito," "Present Tense," "Smile," and "Soldier of Love." In an unexpected twist, "Of the Girl" adds some mystery to the middle of the set, instead of appearing as the opener like usual. In one of the funniest passages in the entire tour, Eddie invites a guy with a broken leg named Andy to the stage to help sing "Smile," and the band messes with his mind when he tries to get the song started. Way to go, Andy. Fun moments like this, plus the unusual song selection, make this a pretty enjoyable bootleg despite the rather sluggish performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!!
I was at this show and it was wonderful. This is a great bootleg to buy because it has one of the best versions of Jeremy I have ever heard. There is so much energy in their performance. Some highlights of this bootleg include: Soldier of Love, Smile (duet with Andy York, a fan), Porch,Yellowledbetter and Jeremy. It was a fantastic show. It is a great example of how exciting this band is live.I highly recomend purchasing this cd. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Until the End
One of the longest of the European bootlegs, "Berlin" clocks in with 32 songs.Amazingly, the band keeps up the energy level and drive until the last selection "Indifference" which, weighed down by a slightly out of tune bass line, collapses onto itself at the end.The rest of show more than makes up for this one slight disappointment, especially a stellar version of "Immortality" that will stay with you long after you have finished listening.

4-0 out of 5 stars Eddie Is a Donut
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This extremely lengthy bootleg is one of the longest shows in the 2000 Pearl Jam world tour, and at a whopping 31 songs it's tied for first place in number of tracks. The other three shows in Germany were all a lot shorter than this, so maybe the band wanted to give the Berliners a marathon session to make up for it. This show gets off to an incredible start, with the surprisingly effective opener "Sometimes," followed by some PJ's heaviest rockers like "Hail Hail" and "Breakerfall." There are some surprises in the set list, like rare appearances by "In Hiding" and "Evacuation," and a creepy "Improv" tune (which sounds rehearsed to me, but still effective). "Not For You," "Immortality," and "Rearviewmirror" combine to bring the first set to a tremendous and transcendent close, while the evening unexpectedly ends with the chilling "Indifference." Unfortunately, this show starts to run out of steam in the encore, with "Thin Air" and "Wishlist" really dragging, and there are painfully obvious errors in "Do the Evolution" and "Alive." But by that point, the band was understandably tired, and so was the crowd. The funniest moment of the show is in the break in "Habit," when Eddie Vedder murmurs "I am a donut," giving a possible translation of JFK's infamous "Ich Bin Ein Berliner" speech. Who knew the guy was a history buff?

4-0 out of 5 stars Was expecting more
I agree with the other reviewers, the CD is worth purchasing. The impressive number of songs and live version of Indifference make it so, but I recently purchased the San Sebastian concert, and by comparison, I was disappointed with the energy at the Berlin concert.Vedder doesn't talk much, the band seems to be going through the motions, and the crowd doesn't seem to get into it until late in the show. With so many European concerts to choose from I read many of the reviews and tried to be discerning with my first purchase (San Sebastian) but happened to be in a music store and picked up the Berlin concert on a whim expecting similar awesome results.Next time I will do alittle research before purchasing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite show
Some of you may have read my review for the Lisbon, Portugal show, and at the time, I felt that show was the best on the tour, but I realize now how foolish that claim was.I now own 16 of the bootlegs, and no its not many, nowhere near bcramer520's all 72, but I love Pearl Jam and know a good show when I hear one (regardless of my Lisbon review).4-0 out of 5 stars A Few Problems, but PJ Rocks Boss-town
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This show, which is the first of two nights in Boston, can be considered one of the most enthusiastic and fun-loving gigs in the bootleg series. The band is clearly having a good time, they're having a lot of fun with the crowd, and the crowd returns the favor. Perhaps everybody was psyched by the dancing cow in the audience (acknowledged by Eddie Vedder in the intro to "Crazy Mary"). Eddie's cover of Little Steven Van Zandt's "I Am a Patriot" in the encore really pleases the locals, and he adds some humorous improv to the lyrics. But even with all the fun and good times, this evening is not an especially good musical performance by the band. Eddie is forgetting lyrics all over the place, especially in "Even Flow" and "Betterman," and he doesn't even try to improvise, but just adds some lazy mumbling instead. The band bungles the beginning of "Sleight of Hand" and have to stop and start over again, and the rarely-performed "Mankind" (with a jovial Stone Gossard on vocals) is a train wreck, mostly because Mike McCready forgets most of his lines in the song. So this particular bootleg is a little hard to judge. If you're looking for one in which the band is talkative, energetic, and everyone is having a roaring good time, then this one is for you. But if you're looking for a slamming display of musicianship by one of the world's top rock bands, well this ain't it.

4-0 out of 5 stars liveliest crowd
I enjoy listening to the concert recorded on this CD by PEARL JAM.Their Boston show of 29 August 2000 must have been an enthralling experience. The connection between Pearl Jam and the crowd is palpable.Pearl Jam blasts through the first seven titles with intense energy and commitment. After this non-stop assault, Mr Vedder addresses the raucous audience. He reflects that they are coming "to terms with the fact we've been together 10 years."The band then picks up to complete a fantastic, heartfelt performance. At the encore, Mr Vedder flatters the fans with the complement that they are "the liveliest crowd played to since Europe."Followed by an unpaid political announcement concerning the upcoming US Presidential Elections which segues nicely into a cover of Mr Steve Van Zandt's "Patriot".Mr Vedder introduces a boyfriend to the song with tongue in cheek. Not to be outdone, Mr McCready admits to a mistake in one of the previous songs (ardent fans will prove their metal by finding it).To repent for his sin, he punishes the crowd with "mankind".The last song is sung with exceptional gusto. If you are interested in great live events, this CD will interest you. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent live CD from one of the country's top music clubs.
The Iron Horse Music Cafe in Northampton, MA is one of the things I miss most about the other coast and this CD goes a long way to showing why - great music by great performers in a great setting. For fans of New Folk, this CD's got wonderful performances by some favorites: Richard Thompson's"Galway to Graceland", Maura O'Connell's version of Thompson's"Waltzing", and Ellis Paul's ethereal "Weightless" areall definitive versions. And if you haven't heard some of these folks live- like Martin Sexton for example! - here's a cheap way to find out what allthe deserved fuss is about. Can't wait for a "Vol. 2."

5-0 out of 5 stars Heavy Metal Machine Music
The intricate, extensive and sublimely rocking introduction to "Sweet Jane" which opens ROCK & ROLL ANIMAL must have made many of this album's earliest buyers think they'd fallen victim to a record company foul-up. Surely the soaring guitars, thundering bass and tight, swirling drums with which they were confronted couldn't have had anything to do with Lou Reed, legendarily laconic purveyor of atonal drones and decadent, rambling anecdotes. But sure enough, after three and a half minutes all that virtuosic showboating somehow morphed into the beloved Velvet Underground classic, with Reed tossing off his lines in a voice by turns sardonic, indifferent and haunted. The result was, and still is, an album both the hardcore Reed fan and the Reed-hating hard rocker can dig, an eminently successful experiment in classic seventies metal from a man whose prior recordings had firmly established him at the opposite pole of the sonic spectrum.
1-0 out of 5 stars atrocious and soulless
I don't know what you people are talking about. This album is horrendous. Terrible, Peter-Frampton-cum-Boston arrangements of Velvets songs. The guitar tones alone are enough to make me want to scream.
5-0 out of 5 stars Blistering guitar work!
This sounds just as good today as it did in 1973. This was one of the first CD's I bought to replace my worn out LP. Definitely one of the all time greatest rock albums, not just live albums. With out a doubt, if Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner were not playing guitar on this one, it would be just another ho hum Lou Reed album. They raise it to the zenith with their blistering guitar work, both rhythm and leads. From Intro/Sweet Jane to the unreal guitar solo in Heroin that just keeps going, to the classic, Rock N' Roll, this whole CD it great, I would love to see it on DVD! ... Read more
