Hello? Beck is still brilliant and he proves it with THE INFORMATION
I admit that my first impression of THE INFORMATION was that Beck had phoned this one in, kinda like a "Beck-By-Numbers" pastiche. But it only took a few more listens for his fantastic songwriting ability to shine through for me. Beck already merged just about every conceivable music genre on MELLOW GOLD and ODELAY, so it's not really fair to expect him to reinvent the freakin' wheel with every new album.
Get your hands on the Best Buy bonus track "This Girl That I Know"!!
This is not really a review for the CD which is just sick (that's good).I downloaded the bonus track thinking whatever, it's free. I'll listen then delete it.I have no idea why it's not on the CD!I guess they're really trying to get legitimate songs as bonus tracks so you'll actually read about how good it is and feel like you need to go rebuy it which sucks.But anyway, get your hand on it somehow.It's one of the best tracks on the CD (or not on the CD I should say!)

Beck's Fourth Best Album!
Rumor is on the street that Beck was deep in the mix on this project then abandoned it to release "Guero" instead. Next thing he knew, he was overseeing "Guerolito" and embroiled in a seemingly non-stop tour in support of both of those runaway projects.

cinematography is crap..too many cheap effects...jump cuts, makes for a rough viewing especially compared to devotional or one night in paris..also the sound is flat...does not seem to be very inspired...

The best DM live dvd by far
This is by far the most enjoyable dvd by DM. Yes i am sure that Devotional DVD and Exciter DVD were great but in terms of denstiy and powerful, it seems that this dvd is better, Anton is great for making music video but i don't think he is good for live performance as the camera angels in Devotional DVD and Exciter DVD looked plain and focus too much on the screens and stage (which he designed).Yes, i agreed with other reviewers that there're a bit too much of effect on this

An ecclectic, thoroughly entertaining record
I first heard the Scissor Sisters' music when a friend of mine played me a couple videos of theirs.At first, I thought it was Fleetwood Mac (please note, I was listening and not paying any attention to the actual video).When I heard it was a relatively new band, one with such a distinctively retro sound, I immediately became interested.
The best CD I've bought in years
So rarely do I buy a CD that I find myself listening to over and over again without getting sick of it. This is the first CD in many years I've been able to play repeatedly, loving it more each time I hear it.
Good, Though Not As Good as their debut; 3.5 Stars
After making both one of the most hailed and one of the most controversial albums of 2004, Scissor Sisters had to find a new path for their much anticipated sophomore album TA-DAH. You have to feel some sympathy for the quirky band considering how do you supercede or surpass a gay concept album the quality of SCISSOR SISTERS.Sure TA-DAH once again affirms the sexuality of the majority of the band through glamorous pop things, but it is nowhere near the level of SCISSOR SISTERS.With that said, TA-DAH is consistent and nearly as good as SCISSOR SISTERS, though it isn't as exciting.Here you don't have the "gay-concept" think as heavily as ingrained as the debut and the listener must rely on the pop, dance, electronic arrangements more as opposed to the lyrics such as "t*ts on the radio" or "I left My heart in San Francisco/ at a motherf**king disco".While there may be no hit the size of "Take Your Mam", the Sisters have definitely still got it, if not to the same exciting level as they did before.

Everything old is new again
A friend introduced me to two songs from this group and I got hooked and ordered a few CDs.I've listened to this one over and over again and while I like some songs more than others it was definitely money well spent.
Oldtimer likes it too
I've been a fan of Pink Floyd since the 70's.I never much cared for the whole disco movement in the 80's, so why do I like this album so much?Maybe it's just that good.

Good stuff.
Don't pay attention to people leaving one star reviews, all they have to say about the album is that they can't believe that anyone has the nerve to cover Comfortably Numb this way.

A return to form while still progressing.
I find this album to be my favorite since Semantic Spaces, but in its own way.They definitely started down a particular path with Karma onward, but Chimera and Poem just didn't grab me.This one does, and shakes hard.I found myself moved to tears in some spots, much like the first time I heard "Silence" or "Flowers Become Screens" - it's somewhat less sensual, unfortunately, but still evocative, touching, moving.I'd been worried that things would turn too "pop" ever since Poem, but this represents a return to complexity I just didn't feel in those last two albums.

Enchanting
Delerium is one of my all time favorite bands. I have been a fan for several years now. I must admit their last studio album "Chimera" was far from perfect. There were some good songs but the album wasn't as good as "Karma" and "Poem" were to me. I was a bit nervous about the new album "Nuages du Monde" after my mild disappointment with "Chimera". Thankfully worries were put to rest. I found "Nuages du Monde" to be a real gem. I love the operatic sounds of "Angelicus". Isabel Bayrakdarian has a lovely voice and it matches well with the music. Gotta love Katherine Blake and the gals in Mediaevael Baebes. Their contributions to Delerium's music, past and present, is always a delight to hear. And it is always good to hear the enchanting vocals by Kristy Thirsk and Kirsty Hawkshaw. What would a Delerium cd be without their lovely ethereal voices? I just bought "Nuages du Monde" today and I am already listening to it for the second time which says a lot about what I think of the cd.

pretty sounding but lacks memorable songs
I'm a huge Delerium fan and own all their albums.I have sung their praises and turned friends onto their music.Their fifth album for Nettwerk Records, Nuages Du Monde (Clouds of the World) is lush, exotic, cinematic, and features a fine assortment of breathy female vocalists, however, the experience is like listening to sonic wallpaper.Songs meander aimlessly.The compositions are not all that memorable. The whole is not greater than the sum of the parts, unfortunately.

Uninspired .......... and boring
I just can't figure Beck out -- This album offers very little entertainment. You could always count on Beck for something different each time out--- but not with this album. The songs sound like tunes that were from previous sessions and just left of off earlier albums.
4.5 Stars - My Favorite Beck album
How you could not like this album is way beyond my comprehension.Beck absolutely rocks on this release.The comparisons to Odelay are hard to avoid because it is a fun, upbeat album full of "Beckisms"...goofy lyrics, gatchy grooves and ryhmes you can't get out of your head.
Great album, but not Beck's best
Guero is definitely enjoyable to listen to, but it still doesn't match Odelay. I like pretty much every song on the album, but some of them are kind of boring to listen to. I don't know why, I just didn't enjoy this album as much as some of Beck's others. Here are my ratings for each song:

Whoo! Alright - Yeah...Uh Huh
Not easy to compete with 'echoes',one of my favourite albums of the past 5 years but i think a good follow-up. less edgy, more rythm.
excellent record
i was driving home from work, listening to my local college radio station, and i heard "get myself into it" ... i was awkened from deep thought and was wondering what i was listening to... the "sound" reminded me of NYC 1981 ... but i wasn't sure ... i heard the dj announce the name of the band, i bought the cd the following day, and i can't wait to see this band perform live ... you might not like every track on this cd, but to this listener's ears, the majority of tracks are well worth the purchase price ... can't wait to get ahold of their first record...

synthy dance rock at its best
this is what future rock is supposed to be. i love the contrast and creativity between the tracks. each one has its own soul and feeling. this band doesn't try to be anything other than what it is, a party monster. this much energy can't be contained with just ten tracks. you scream for more after each song, and yell for defness as you analize each sonic creation. i listen to electronic dance music, and have a hard time following anything in the "rock" segment. this totally keeps my interest.... ... Ok, this is trip hop at its best (and not pop like some reviewers called it).

Massive Attack's Finest Hour
Easily this ecclectic group's best album, "Mezzanine" is really a strong testament to how well developed this band's sound became up to this point in their carreer. Although this album suffers a bit on the back end, the first 4 tracks (skipping the 5th track) and then the 6th track are probably the best rapid succession of trip-hop (with a darker, more organic edge) songs one could wish to hear. My only complaint is that the final five songs can almost be dismissed although to do so would probably not allow the first bunch of songs shine as much as they do. ... Read more

Emiliana's Best So Far...
This is an amazing piece of work: haunting, memorable, captivating.It was in my CD for weeks last summer, couldn't take it out.I can't say the same for Fisherman's Wife though - if you're into acoustics, it will be right up your alley.It's definitely not in the same vein as LitToS.Try Daugher Darling or Baxter if you are looking for similar 'moods'.

Iceland Rocks!
Love In The Time Of Science is an interesting mix of Emiliana Torrini's haunting voice and lyricism and Roland Orzabal's synth loving producing.I've heard Torrini compared to fellow Icelandic chanteuse, Bjork.Their voices sometimes do sound alike, but there the comparison ends.Where Bjork likes a heavy disco beat, Torrini prefers a jazzier, more ethereal sound and unexpected chord changes.Her cool, understated style is nicely complemented here by Orzabal's synthesizers.

Good workout music
I agree with another reviewer that the first 4 songs are the best...the album goes downhill after that. But ALL the songs still have a good beat, and it keeps me motivated during my ball workout!

On her own... and doing great!
I was more than proud of Gwen when she came out with this Cd. I am sure we were all worried when we found out she was leaving No Doubt behind, and whether she could make it on her own without a killer band to back her up. Well no point in worrying because this girl just kept going and showed she could be an even better solo artist then a lead singer of a band.

I did notice there is alot of swares in Hollaback Girl, One of my favorite songs on the cd.

Suburbia!
I have to say that this is my second compact disc because the other one got scratched up. I decided since I love their music to buy another one because the one hit that I love the most is Suburbia. I love listening to it over and over again. I love the other hits like West End Boys and What have I done to deserve this? and others on this collection. I love the sound and keep thinking about London, England and being on the underground or the tube. It's quite a great collection!

1984 West End Girls version?
While I like the 1986 version of WEGs, I LOVE the original 1984 version better. Does anyone know if it is available on CD?

Is $14.98 too much to ask for one perfect pop song?
Are you the kind of person who would spend $3.50 for the perfect oyster at a raw bar? How about $7.00 for a perfectly drawn pint of ale in a midtown New York bar? Then dropping $35.00 for a t-shirt because it was made in the US or $18.00 for that small jar of cashews from the minibar because you 'just had to have something to munch on" before going to dinner? If you answered yes to any of the above, you would have no problem dropping the full price (Amazon, $14.98) to have a red-book CD copy (no inferior compressed downloads, thank you) of the perfect pop song, "What have I done to Deserve this?" from Pet Shop Boys. One of the most beautifully sung and arranged female pop vocals ever recorded is to be found on this one song. It is well known that Dusty Springfield demanded several run-throughs and takes to make this cut. She is said to have sweated every single note to perfection because she felt so strongly about her performance. Believe me, it shows. Perfection. And now for something completely... uh... different?
Suffice it to say that the debut from Under The Influence of Giants is easily a hodge-podge of styles.Generally, I think such a mixture can yield some very interesting results.In this case, I'd say the results are interesting, but not for the reasons you might think.

Honestly, I thought I reviewed this album already, but I guess I didn't...well, here we go again!!!I agree with the reviewer that this debut rekkid by UTIOG will, in 10+ years, be viewed as a future classic, and right now, I think it's an easy contender for my top 10 of 2006...possibly best DEBUT album of this year, no doubt!!!

More than the sum of their parts
Having followed Phoenix's discography along with Air, Tahiti 80, Zoot Woman, and a long list of other French bands that I found from links that traced back to Daft Punk, I suddenly find them in a class higher above -- and all their own -- compared to many of their ilk.
THe more I listen to it, the better it gets
I was blown away by these guys in concert.They carried their earlier, more poppy stuff well, but their new stuff really rocked!THis album is full of great tunes that allude a bit to the early 80s punk movement, but also throw a couple unique styles out there.The use of repetition is the most blatant thing on the album that I haven't heard anywhere else.It kinda throws you off at first, but then, you learn to love it- great stuff!

Great record; never rests, never falters.
I'm more and more impressed by Phoenix the longer I listen to them.This record has a beautiful sense of the power of repetition in a pop song.The subtle sonic and lyric shifts allow the songs to flex and bob about themselves, creating songs that more akin to woven compositions than just verse/corus/verse.

A must have for Massive Attack fans!!!
Great compilation of songs from Massive Attack, all of their singles plus new never release songs. The videos are great and their new single 'live with me' is a great song (very sad video though). Includes new version/remix of 'I want you' with madonna. The combo is great you can own ALL of the videos, is a lot of fun to see the videos from blue lines until 100th window from the 90s all the way to the new single, the changes in the way they used to make music videos. There's even the first video with Tricky).

Ugh..
Another album plagued by their ballads. If they'd only stick to the dance beats like "Minimal".

Basic greatness
Truly a gorgeous collection of songs crafted with precision and grace. PSB are the consummate perfectionists, always striving to out-perform their last effort - usually a monumental task! I heard that Earl Harvin played on this one. That's a lethal combination that makes this one irresistible. These songs will grow on you in magical ways.
In this case, "typical" means GOOD.
Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe have not lost their touch."Fundamental" is good stuff from the Pet Shop Boys, as usual.It is somewhat more political, but isn't everything these days?!A celebrity has ONE opinion, just like you and me, but otherwise this is a fine album. ... Read more

Better than the UK Version
All tracks are classics in their own way a must have for any diehard New order fan as the track listing differs from the UK version. Gone are the tracks found on Substance and in come the opening tracks from new orders first 3 albums + Lets Go(Nothing for me) a barnstormer of a track which I believe is only available on here or on the Retro box set. All in all a fine add on to your collection.

7 Years and Going Strong
That's how long it's been since I've discovered New Order and, consequently, it's also how long they've been my favorite band.I am reviewing this album a second time because I forgot the e-mail and password I had for my other account (brilliant move, I know).With that said, this sweet, resplendent compilation was the second CD I purchased by the group, following Substance.While I love both collections with about the same intensity now, I have to admit that I liked New Order's "Best Of" much more at the start.While Substance is an awesome album of singles that is a nessecity for any true fan of the band, "The Best Of New Order" is more accessible to new fans as well as to those who may be only casual listeners.The songs are short, but sweet: an excellent fusion of rock, pop and techno.It's difficult to choose the standouts, because doing so would mean having to name at least 3/4's of the tracks on this CD.
Very Innovative
I'm a college student, and I find that current pop music doesn't do it for me. In fact, most of my friends listen to music that dates from the 1960s to the early 90s. I love this CD, New Order is very easy to listen to and enjoy. You can even hear the foundations of modern day house music within some of the tracks. The melancholy tone of the lead singer is definitive of a lot of the pop in the 80s, yet he does not bore you. Although I do admit, you can tell that all the tracks have somewhat of a general way of being constructed; so I recommend listening to the 30 second snippets that Amazon provides to decided if you really want to buy it. However, if you want a CD that is somewhat definitive of 80s Brit Pop, and made a huge impact on the Pop scene, I would definitely recommend buying this.
