5-0 out of 5 stars To Expand Your Musical Horizons (Or At Least To Expand Mine)
I adored this CD. Being a huge Gilmore Girls fan I asked for this for my birthday as I had no money, and have not regretted it. I can listen to it over and over without getting sick of it, and I never want to skip a track, though I have my preferences (Clear Spot, One Line, I'm The Man Who Murdered Love, Human Behaviour, Where You Lead I Will Follow, I Don't Mind, It's Alright, Baby, God Only Knows). I was pleased to hear that I agreed with Rory on Child Psychology - I liked it because it made me 'gloomy'. I also love Sam Phillips and the 'la-la' music from the show, and the cues make great transitions on this CD, just as they do in between scenes. I'm ashamed to say I hardly knew any of this music before watching Gilmore Girls, but this CD has made me want albums by every artist on here, so that's probably what my next birthday list will consist of.

3-0 out of 5 stars Our Little Corner of the World: Music From Gilmore Girls
The CD provides the themes heard on Gilmore Girls and that is interesting. However, I was looking for something more such as music referred to by Lorelai, Rory and Lane. As an example, it might have had "Shadow Dancing". It is not a CD I would RIP to a hard drive for inclusion with an evening of music. I would have a hard time playing the CD more than the three times I have played it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Gilmore Girls Rock
I loved the CD. The main reason I bought the CD is that my 8 month old daughter loves the music during the episodes. I own the 1st 4 seasons on DVD and we are just about out of shows to watch. She loves the opening song and the closing credits. The only thing I was upset over was that the closing credits were not on the CD. Otherwise, it is a CD that will rock in our household for years to come. ... Read more

This is good stuff lol. I love five for fighting. I love alternitive music (hope i spelled that right lol). I love 100 years and If god made you. Great job five for fighting. YE-AH! lol.

4-0 out of 5 stars An amazing album
This is an extraordinary album with very good instruments. The way this guy combines his voice with the piano is unbelievable. It's a really heart warming album that puts a smile on your face and sometimes brings out tears of joy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing album
There seems to be two groups of reviewers with regard to FFF, the 5-star gang who love John Ondrasik's musical versatility, opera-trained voice, and whimsical songwriting, and those who disparage the album for 'only having one good song' or Ondrasik for having too high a voice or writing lyrics that don't always make sense.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nothing like before
If you're anything like me, then you probably plugged this disc in expecting to hear driving rhythms accompanied by mindless vocals: testosterone fueled screeming, snarling, growling, and incomprehensible lyrics that wouldn't hold much value even if you could understand them.Basically then, all the same components that permeate most modern metal/heavy metal acts such as Slipknot-from which Stone Sour was born- and the like.It seems to be a fair assumption because that's the direction that their debut album took. That's what Slipknot, Corey Taylor's other band, have been doing for years now.Start to listen and you will still find some of that in Stone Sour's music, but it's held to a minimum, and they also have something more to offer. There's a softer and more melodic side to their music than there has been in the past.A number of songs are steered in the direction of alternative rock and alternative metal. This is evidenced mainly by such songs as "sillyworld", "Through Glass", "Socio", and "Zzyzx Rd."They do start to regress into their old style in the middle of the CD with tracks 5-7: "Made of Scars", "Reborn", and "Your God", but they rebound in a big way toward the end of the disc.Another positive is that some of their harder edged songs are more listenable.Take for example "30/30-150" and "Come What(ever) May", two of the highlights.

I am in love with the song "through glass"!!! i heard it on the radio and fell in love... its the best song ive heard from them in a long time. if you dont think this song is good your crazy

4-0 out of 5 stars Bluesy riffs reminiscent of GN'R and Aerosmith in their prime, BUT...
...there's also some filler (as per usual with Buckcherry). Songs like Next 2 You are catchy and cool, but not really as substantial as one would hope; comparatively the sleaze-rock hit Crazy Bitch is cool but almost tries too hard to capture the spirit of misogynistic '80s hard rock (think It's So Easy meets 2 Live Crew). The guitars are bluesy and capture the vibe of Perry and Slash and Josh Todd's have the raw screech of Steven Tyler, but overall I still think this band has a bit of a way to go before they become truly great - their albums tend to have a bit of filler and this is no exception. All they need now is a substantial hit like "Sweet Child O' Mine" and to put out a few songs that aren't quite as simplistic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally
At last, a rock band for the 21st century is back with an awesome CD that I would reccommend to everyone. My sister, who listens almost exclusively to Pop is in love with Buckcherry's 15 as well. What are you waiting for?Add this to your Cart!

In an era when pop nihilism fulfilled its dark promise all too regularly, Pearl Jam not only survived, but thrived to become one of rock's greatest bands. This 33-track double-disc career retrospective documents the arc of a career that went from arena and radio triumphs in the early 90's (while Nirvana's promise imploded in the wake of hype, Pearl Jam's crowd-pleasing fame only burgeoned) to the uncompromising, core audience-focused tack that carried the band into the 21st century. Shrewdly compiled by the band into an "Up" disc that chronicles the band's driving, Stone Gossard-Mike McCready fueled hard rock dramatics (including such early career landmarks as "Jeremy," "Alive" and "Even Flow" alongside more aggressive fare like "Go" and "Spin the Black Circle") and a "Down" side that focuses more on Eddie Vedder's brooding, often darkballads ("Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town," "Yellow Ledbetter," their unlikely hit cover of the oldie "Last Kiss"), it's a collection that underscores both the band's range and musical integrity. Though centered largely on the band's pre-Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely the best of Pearl Jam
This 2 disc collection is absolutely awesome. I was a HUGE PJ fan in the early 90's when they burst on the scene, but as I got older I drifted away from them. I've recently rediscovered them and wow, what a set! My favorite PJ tunes are here, and they flow great. Yellow Ledbetter, Alive, Even Flow, Dissident, Black to name a few.I'm listening to it now as I write this review, and feeling rather nostalgic. Some great times with Pearl Jam as part of the soundtrack!

5-0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars for "Continuum's" seed packet
I am writing this less than two weeks after hearing John live in Indianapolis, where he played Tracks 1-3 and 5 (not #4--thank goodness--more about that later). "Continuum" was three days away from release. Because my husband and I went to the concert for Sheryl Crow, we'd assumed he was opening for her. When she came out first, we realized this guy must be someone big that we'd just never hear of (we tend to listen to jazz, 70s Rock, and for our daughter, whatever's on Radio Disney).Because this music was brand new to us, we couldn't tell older songs from newer. It was all solid and good.I left the concert bound and determined to find all his recordings.
5-0 out of 5 stars Luv, Luv, LUV this CD!!
John Mayer is offically my Boyfriend!!! The CD is great from start to finish. My favorite, St. Patrick's Day, is so simple and beautiful. His sense of humor shows though in almost every song. The lyrics are sweet and just make me smile:) I've had it for a couple years and it hasn't gotten old yet!

2-0 out of 5 stars Now I found you
I just want to say that "No Such Thing" is a sludge of crap. That song made me so depressed in late 2002 that it was not funny. I felt as though that nailed the coffin shut on rock and roll as I knew it; most of these songs didn't even try to hit the mark. There were some that were halfway decent like "Why Georgia?" and "Neon", but there was only one really good song on here which was "Love Song For No One". Listening to this made me think that he was more concerned with making sure that the sound on this record was as stripped down to where no one would suspect that he used any machines, but that's only half the battle the rest are good solid songs that can stick to your ribs, and none of these would. To me it reminded me of eating Tofu, and we know how wet and runny that is. "No Such Thing" is a song that just didn't take off with me, and I feel it has no meaning, and then when you top it off with a melody, and notes that are about as cheerful as sitting through a dark, gray, dreary rainy season this will make you want to end it all. I often wonder what Mayer had in mind when he recorded this. To me he should stop hiding, and show the world who he is, and what music is at the center of his heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite albums ...
I dont pretend Yorke is God but i like Radiohead.I loved OK Computer, I liked The Bends and Hail To The Theif, I could tolerate Kid A, and I despised Amnesiac and Pablo Honey.
5-0 out of 5 stars pure music from the inner soul
i remember when this came out. i think i was in 6th or 7th grade. radiohead was known to me by the two songs "high and dry" and "fake plastic trees" from their bends album, so the name wasn't totally lost in my memory.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone...
My college roommate played this cd relentlessly when it first came out & it won me over. More than one listen is probably a requirement in order to fall for this album. Its definitley out there. Apparently the lyrics are about the way machines dehumanize people but I loved to listen to the music even before I could understand what the heck the lyrics were saying.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Album
This is a very good album.Lyrically, it doesn't do much for me, but musically, it's simple but poignant and says much deeper what the lyrics shallowly convey.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great album
This is easily the best album I have heard in the last 10 years. I haven't had an album that was this addictive since Pulp's Different Class. I don't listen to the radio a lot and the only song I had heard before was Somewhere Only We Know, so I was very pleased to find that there were 4 or 5 songs that I really liked. As I listened to it over and over, I found that each song was a masterpiece. I don't know where they can go from here, to me this was a perfect debut and they can't possibly do another album that can top this. Any band will be hard pressed to top this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest album ever made.
Keane is one of the greatest bands of all time. The fact that they use piano/keyboards/bass/drums on every song, with no guitars at all, shows that they are more musically sophisticated than all the other mindless guitar rock that's out there. There are more than enough guitar-based bands. "Somewhere Only We Know" is the best song of all time. Beautiful lyrics, solid piano backbone, and a steady, moderate tempo, make it a brilliant album-opener. The album has upbeat pop/rock, like "Bend and Break" and "This is the Last Time," slow, sorrowful ballads, like "She Has No Time" and "We Might as Well be Strangers," gentle, peaceful melodies, like "Sunshine," and slightly ethereal, unearthly ones like "Untitled 1" and "Bedshaped." Plus, all the lyrics are intensely personal and honest, ones that everyone can relate to, in one way or another. All together, the album is a classic, one that (if the American public knows anything about music) will live on to be known as one of the greatest albums ever made. Every song is a masterpiece. There are no fillers. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Deathcab for Snoozie - whining set to music
I'm an indie rock fan but I guess I'm just not at all an "emo" fan.Every time I hear emo I think of whining set to music. This disc has a few catchy songs ("Title and Registration", "The Sound of Settling" stand out) but the rest of it is just so slow as to put me into a coma.If that's the desired effect then OK, but just not for me.I don't mind slow songs and think most good discs have a mix of uptempo and downtempo songs but the downtempo is just too heavy here.It doesn't suck by any means, just not my sort of stuff. The lyrics are good, but it doesn't overcome the overall mood.I worry about this generation if this sort of music represents their overall mood - things aren't that bad - wait til you get older and you'll see.Go listen to punk rock or something...

3-0 out of 5 stars meh
Pure magic my a%!.This CD like the other Death Cab has a couple fantastic songs but it doesn't make the album 5 stars.Get the singles from the apple store and you're set.Don't waste your money on the full album unless it's 50% off.

Bought it unheard when recommended by the dude at the bookstore and really really have enjoyed it.Yeah, it's pretty much pop, but with a smart twist.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK ...
I love Get Over It as much as the next person but these guys are not exactly "smart" rock. I also dont believe they are as nerdy as Weezer either. But they try almost as hard as Weezer to portray their "(un)fashionable" image. They try too hard and overproduce everything. Also the lyrics, while they can be catchy, are just awful after Get Over It.They can nail some big hooks but these just disguise how formulated this album is.To me they are like a better Weezer, which isnt saying much. After the first 3 songs there is nothing very exciting on this album. Also "hey" is their favorite word, have you noticed?
4-0 out of 5 stars OK Go amazes the crowds.
OK Go displays a great style, whether it be the actual music or even their clothing.Their music has a great sound to it, very new-age rock with the slightest bit of old time rock and roll (or at least that's what I hear in it).

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff
I just bought this on itunes mainly because I saw them play "a certain romance" on saturday night live and it inspired me to play my guitar along with the recording. the rest of the album is good but i still think "a certain romance" is well beyond anything else on the album. i actually find the single "i bet you look good on the dancefloor" kind of annoying but some of the other tracks are great!

5-0 out of 5 stars great sound, should be getting more cred
arctic monkeys rock. litteraly. they are a great alternative rock group that cant help but make you want to turn up the volume and just start jamming. these guys are much better compared to many other upbeat rock groups that are trying to make it out there. these guys are definately legit. songs that i have enjoyed on this cd include fake tales of san francisco, a certain romance, and i bet you look good on the dance floor. like i said these guys are great and are bound to make you feel happier and more energetic when you listen to them. definately a good cd.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Lesser Imitation...
...of much better bands. The Arctic Monkeys have been quickly labeled as a brilliant, breakthrough band by their fans and a great deal of the British media. The NME has hailed "Whatever People Say I Am, I'm Not" as one of the best British albums ever, ranking it at #5, just below The Beatles, The Smiths, Oasis, and The Sex Pistols and ranking higher than Blur, Pulp, The Clash, and The Libertines! The NME has earned quite a reputation for seizing upon certain new bands and shoving them in everyone's face; they did this with The Libertines. The difference is, however, that The Libertines were worthy of this recognition because they were actually a fantastic band and have been a major influence for newer bands. Some people, obviously, may disagree because musical genius is up to personal interpretation...but, to me, the Arctic Monkeys merely sound like the leftover scraps, bits, and pieces of their contemporaries. I thought "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" was rather catchy, so I bought the whole CD. I can't say I was disappointed, because it was exactly what I was expecting; more of the same! Though that particular song is a highlight (as well as "The View from the Afternoon", "Riot Van, and "When the Sun Goes Down"), the rest of the album is VERY forgettable. I've listened to it several times now, but I really don't recall most of the other songs off-hand until I hear them again. This album got to #24 at it's peak in the US and #1 in the UK (where it had the fastest first week sales of an album in UK history). It's not a particularly unfortunate thing that they're popular; they are, at least, a decent band. The problem that I have is that they're kind of stealing the thunder from some bands (like the Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party) that are far more polished and memorable than the Arctic Monkeys. It's also easy to pick up the hint of influence of The Strokes and The Libertines lurking within many of the songs. Perhaps this band's originality will finally come through in their second album. ... Read more

One thing you know you'll get from Franti and Spearhead is a certain kind of crystal clarity--on the production, musicianship, and, of course, in the righteous political message. Released two years after Franti traveled by himself to war-ravaged Baghdad, Gaza Strip, and the West Bank, each of these songs deals with the human cost of war poignantly and pointedly. The lyrics may seem simplistic when removed from the songs--"Those who start wars never fight them/And those who fight wars never like them" and "The F15 is a homicide bomber"--but very few artists have the honesty and balls that Franti does. Bless him for that. Spearhead might lose credibility with some by tying Peter Tosh's chant to "legalize it" to their call for revolution, but those folks are not in the target demographic, anyway. Those who are will thoroughly dig this. From the jam band accents of "Time to Go Home" to the reggae of "Light Up Ya Lighter" to the U2-ish ballad "I Know I'm Not Alone," it's easily Franti's best album yet. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great music with a real world message
This is an outstanding CD full of insightful music with lyrics that express emotions toward war and violence that are felt by many, but expressed far too little by today's musicians. And although the music is somewhat eclectic reggae, pop, rock, it has just enough reggae vibes for a roots lover like me. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars OMG I LOVE THIS CD!!!!!!
This is one of my most favorite CD'S ever!!! I love the music, beat, and lyrics for every song!!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Underrated

2-0 out of 5 stars A sad triumph of greed over quality
BEP was one of my favorite hip-hop acts of the late 90's. Their Debut album "Behind the Front" and even their Sophomore album "Bridging the Gap" continued a musical approach and ideology more akin to Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kweli, De La Soul, and the Roots than the current Gangster Rap trend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kinks - 'The Ultimate Collection' (Red X)
The title of this 2-CD Kinks compilation says it all,'Ultimate Collection'.Total of 48 tracks for our listening pleasure. Sound quality is over the top, which is to say it is simply S-U-P-E-R-B! The FM radio hits you all have 'etched' in the back of your minds like I do are all here, like "You Really Got Me", "All Day And All Of The Night", "Tired Of Waiting For You" (my personal Kinks favorite), "Sunny Afternoon", the so-so "Come Dancing" (I like the video better than I do the song), "Lola"," Mr. Pleasant" and the unforgetable "Celluloid Heros". Just all around great British Invasion rock&roll. A must-have.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of all the Kinks' greatest hits compilations
This is a quality double CD that tracks the history of one of the most talented and influential groups ever, not just of the 60's and 70's. There are some great "B" sides with all of their major hits included. There are a few songs left out that, if included, would have made this an even better collection - Misfits, 20th Century Man, Destroyer, Low Budget come to mind. But the Kinks have such a vast repertoire' I guess only a boxed set of 3-4 CD's could contain the entire depth and span of their music that many of us would like. But this is a gem for what it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Compilations Ever For Any Band
This cd, which I have been looking for for ages, is a truly awesome collection of all The Kinks' best stuff. These two discs contain just about everything you need if you only want one Kinks cd in your collection. Everything from "You Reallly Got Me" to "Lola" to "Celluloid Heroes" to "Come Dancing" and so much more is included. There's a great wealth of lesser known tracks (including some Dave Davies solo material) that are just as good as their biggest hits, there's a great essay for the liner notes and the sound quality is pitch perfect.

Editorial Review

Resembling at times a soft-sung Robert Plant, Buckley was an intuitive vocalist capable of dizzying arabesques and choir-boy sweetness. He is joined here by a tight band for 10 tracks highlighting his stylistic range--Pearl Jam bluesy on "Eternal Life," impossibly serene on Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," art-school noisy on "So Real," Led Zep daring on "Mojo Pin." Unorthodox, this was the debut of '94. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Moving...
How else can you describe the combination of his beautiful voice and well written music?I can't add anything to the volumes that have been written about this album already. An album with well over 500 reviews that is holding a 4.5 star average must have something going for it.
2-0 out of 5 stars Born to Croon
Jeff Buckley sounds like what Marc Bolan would have sounded like if Bolan had taken Perry Como as his musical muse.Seriously, think about Marc Bolan trying to sound like a '50's crooner and you'll know what Jeff Buckley sounds like.

5-0 out of 5 stars Genius
Gone to soon. What would he have become we will never really know and we are not better off because of his untimely death. An artist with creative vision and the talent to back it up. There is so little of his original music available it is difficult to really understand were he was headed and were his creative would have eventually taken him. The multiple albums of his original music has captured his songs in different stages of develoment and arrangement such that no two versions are completely the same and document his development.

Editorial Review

Music doesn't come more touching than this. With their debut single alone, the emotion-fortified "Shiver," Coldplay prove they can shift between elated and crushed in a breath, as singer Chris Martin pours out music's oldest chestnut (unconditional yet unrequited love) with the shakiest of voices and a backdrop of epic guitars. 5-0 out of 5 stars Classic
I'm really late on this review.Parachutes is a classic album and my personal favorite from Coldplay.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice debut
I really am shocked by some of the things said by metalheads against this album... And then they go as far to say things such as "Try [insert bad metal band here], they're so much better than this pussy band... Chris Martin has no testicles!"
5-0 out of 5 stars SCHUBERT NOSTALGIA
Lyrics and Mood are extremely important when considering songs! This is perhaps the best showcase of song writing since... When I hear this album I am saved-I realate it to the intensity of Schubert and the wit of Wolf. This is darn intelligent, thought provoking and praise worthy song literature! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
This CD is brilliant! Six stars! It perfectly melds classical music with rock. I can't recommend it highly enough. Shara Worden's lyrics and vocals are gorgeous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Original, and bright
While driving recently, I was lucky enough to hear a large part of Shara Worden's new CD, Bring me the Workhorse. I don't often listen to rock music--these days, classical is my preference when I'm not stuck in the car, glued to my kids' rap and hip hop--and I can't remember the last time I bought any. But this is one CD I'd consider. It's so original, and, well, musical.
