The Promise of Summer Average Customer Review: Audio CD (08 October, 2002) list price: $15.98 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (6)
I am putting the cd "mike: the lessons of autum" for sale on ebay on may 27, 2004. It will have his pictures and more facts. Just browse under cd's Mike Garrigan .
On this album specifically, Mike went with a full band electric sound. This, his third solo album, is a depature from his first two albums which were much more acoustic. These two original albums are at present only available direct from his website. However, this album is still excellent, and he sounds just as good singing over electric guitar as he does over acoustic. "Rusted Radio," "She Alone," "A Better Place," "Sour Milk," "See You Tonight," and"Don't Fade Away" are the more serious but still upbeat tracks."Summer Machine," "Sigourney Weaver," and "God Lives in My Backyard" fit more as the very upbeat songs, and have are about less serious topics."4th of July" is rather low key, and mildly melancholy."Throwaway, A Race Horse" is by far the most low key and nearly heartwrenching song on the album, depending on how you interpret the lyrics.I do know some people who take it as a song of hope as well. In any case, this is a brilliant album.Expect more great work from Mike in the future.

Telepathic Last Words Average Customer Review: Audio CD (20 January, 1998) list price: $15.98 -- our price: $15.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Course of Empire has always been tricky to pigeonhole: a little goth, a little industrial, a little metal, a (very) little pop. Add glam to the mix and you've got Telepathic Last Words. It's the band's most ambitious record, but it would appear that ambition doesn't suit Course of Empire so well. While there are some decent riffs and rhythms there, such moments rarely coincide. --Keven McAlester ... Read more Reviews (14)
The only thing to hold against Course of Empire on this album is that they sometimes take too long to finish a track. While New Maps (or Neli Maps if you prefer) and Information are great metal-industrial songs of perfect lenght, songs like Persian Song and Respect take too long to finish. That said, it's really a minor detail. The best songs on this album (without taking anything from the others) are definitely in the last segment of the album, starting with 59 Minutes and ending with Respect. I often quote the lyrics from 59 Minutes : "Nothing will save you from human behavior, Nothing will save you, you built your own savior." Then there's Freaks that you can listen when you're mad (it helps!). Captain Control is the pop song on the album, and it's a catchy one. Then comes Respect, which is the song you'll want to listen to loud. Well, the first half of it anyway (I said earlier it should have been shorter). So, from the great intro (I could just listen to Radio Teheran and the first seconds of New Maps over and over) to the hidden track, this is a wonderful achievement. If I would to compare this band to any other, it would be Stabbing Westward. Both bands are worth checking out. So do it. Now. Come on now! Carry on.

Science Average Customer Review: Audio CD (09 September, 1997) list price: $11.98 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (208)
At first listen I was more surprised by the difference between S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Morning View than anything.I didn't really understand what was going on with the music - the funky, syncopated groove of songs like 'Redefine' and 'New Skin' went right over my head.'Vitamin' was much more friendly, since I listen to a lot of hard rock and it immediately seemed right at home (this CD has a lot of bass in the mix.I blew my speakers listening to 'Vitamin' too loud ;)A couple of the songs I just didn't understand - like the heavy-quiet 'Idiot Box,' and 'Magic Medicine' with its bass, drums, and children's book reading, while others like 'Glass' and 'Deep Inside' I loved the first time I heard them. The CD stayed in my player for about a month, and over that time I finally started to get my head around the idea of funk - and I realized that I really liked it, especially when fused with the hard rock that I like so much. This combination put Incubus in my top 4 favorite bands, along with I Mother Earth, Spacehog, and Dream Theater. If you like funk or hard rock and are looking for a little new music, give this album a listen. If you really like A Crow Left Of The Murder and are looking for more along those lines, try Make Yourself or Morning View instead. If you want to see Incubus' true roots, check this album out.No true Incubus fan that I know likes only their new stuff. The only problem I have with it is the fact that it's Incubus' only album like this.More musical, tighter, and more polished than their previous stuff, but before they turned to where they are now.Their new music isn't a compromise made for radio play or anything - they just took a COMPLETELY different direction. If you listen to 'A Crow Left Of The Murder' and 'S.C.I.E.N.C.E.' it sounds like two different bands.

Final Fantasy: Potion - Relaxin' With Final Fantasy Average Customer Review: Audio CD (17 April, 2001) list price: $44.49 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (2)
If you're new to collecting Final Fantasy music and you've haven't gotten a lot of Japanese releases, then I do recommend this CD.The selections are mostly all enjoyable -- his other CDs tend to have some "weird" songs on them that reflect his diversity as a composer (that's what they say) but they just annoy me.Regarding this CD, the winners are many, but I especially recommend picking it up for some of the music from Final Fantasy V that you'd miss out on -- Lenna's theme (dear friends version) is especially touching, the Theme of Love (celtic style) is enchanting, and of course, who can forget the very first track with Tina's song? So, like I said, if you have most of the music -- don't bother. But if you're missing a lot in the series, pick it up for a treat. ... Read more Asin: B00005HUYR |

The Ever Passing Moment Average Customer Review: Audio CD (16 May, 2000) list price: $13.98 -- our price: $13.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The Ever Passing Moment, Washington homespun punksters MxPx's eighth full-length album, will not disappoint the punk-thirsty faithful and will likely rouse many a fan-to-be from sleep. Showing no sign of letting up, this trio pumps it out with a relentless grind and an effortless finesse, demonstrating that artistic integrity is alive and well in the world of energy rock. The Ever Passing Moment showcases the band's aptitude for producing catchy anthemic choruses and clever rhythmic changeups while surging full force through each song. Vocal styling partially reflects the pop-punk band Green Day, and an honest tone prevails in the emotional moods of these outpourings. Throughout the project, the lyrics paradoxically demonstrate that the most profound things in life are also the simplest. Check out "My Life Story" or "Prove It to the World" to get a taste, but don't wait too long to get this album. At the rate these guys are going, it may soon be dated material. --Israel Button ... All the Great Hits Average Customer Review: Audio CD (22 September, 1998) list price: $20.99 -- our price: $20.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (6)
While I usually just raid my Buffett collection to create mix tapes, "All the Great Hits" manages to be a great mix on its own, and is one of Buffett's few albums I just drop into the CD player and listen to straight, over and over. A must have for Parrotheads and well worth the extra money.

Foma Average Customer Review: Audio CD (23 May, 1995) list price: $11.98 -- our price: $11.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The Nixons are one of the few bands hailing from Norman/Oklahoma City, but the foursome has nothing in common with the twisted psychedelia of theFlaming Lips or the transvestite punk of the Chainsaw Kittens. Its debut, Foma,is soulless, generic grunge. The album takes its title from author KurtVonnegut's phrase for meaningless lies that people live with to make themselvesfeel better-appropriate for a band that, given a different commercialenvironment, would probably sound like Poison. --Jim DeRogatis ... Classic Sinatra Average Customer Review: Audio CD (28 March, 2000) list price: $17.98 -- our price: $9.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Few would dispute that Frank Sinatra was one of the greatest popular singers of the 20th century. His voice had distinct power and majesty, whether he was belting out a swinging dance number or softly crooning a tender ballad. When he was at his height, no one could touch him, and the songs collected on Classic Sinatra showcase the range of his talent. Recorded during his memorable run for Capitol Records in the 1950s, the songs here are more than just his best, they're often the definitive recordings: "I Get a Kick out of You," "Young at Heart," "Witchcraft," "The Lady Is a Tramp," "In the Wee Small Hours," and"I've Got You Under My Skin." Like almost everything Sinatra recorded during this period, there isn't a dud to be found, which makes Classic Sinatra a perfect introduction to the work of this truly great talent. --Robert Burrow ...
