4-0 out of 5 stars Truly originalHeavy music
Wow. This is an awesome album filled with emotionally charged music and hard rocking beats and excellent vocals to top it off. Isaw these guys at Stubbs BBQ in Austin, Texas a few years back and I have to admit they blew thursday out of the water. They even gave some of the heavy metal bands a run for their money. In my opinion they are just as good as any metal band I have seen and this is considering that I have seen Pantera(R.I.P. Dimebag)three times and Megadeth twice. What is really great is there music can't be lumped in with everything else that is out right now. They have crafted songs with melody but with a dose of anger and sprinkled with emotion, they make even the most hardcore headbangers and punk rockers sing along. They definately blur the line between Punk and metal yet they are neither.Songs like "Under a Killing Moon" tell tales of witchcraft and Being burnt at the stake.More politically charged tunes like "Paper Tigers" show them at their best. This song is my personal favorite and is a highlight on this particular album. Only one star is deducted because I felt that this one isn't as great as their previous releases. (The Illusion of Safety,Identity Crisis)
a little more watered down yet still a solid effort from a very underated band. They paved the way for bands like Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold, and from Autumn to Ashes and made this style popular. If I had to call them anything it would be Great musicians and excellent songwriters. Four Stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars THRICE BEST CD
I was introduced to Thrice by a friend who loves them and also by their video of the single "Stare at the sun" .I really liked so much that song and I was totally addicted to it and wanted to hear more Thrice. I have to say that I tought that Thrice were not "heavy music" becasue the single isn't heavy but it keeps the energy of the band in a very good way with one of the best choruses I have ever heard on my life it is totally awesome. When I decided to buy the cd I tought "The most probable thing is that stare at the sun is the only good song on th cd like a lot of other bands do". I was with this negative idea until I put the Cd on the stereo and started to hear the first song "Cold cash and colder hearts" this song is totally aewsome and has nice lyrics and a good message and at the end the screaming and specially the way the screaming complements the music totally blows me away. The cd con be divided into to parts the soft song or the songs that don't have screaming (stare at the sun , all thats left and the artist in the ambulance) and teh songs that are heavier (all the other songs ). My favorite of this heavy songs are sillohuete ( it reminds me deadbolt)and the abolition of man both are just totally awesome. The artist in the ambulance is a very good song also wich combines the energy of teh group with nice lyrics and awesome guitar by Teppei. I totally recomend this cd and also their previous releases and theyre new DVD (the new DVD has acoustic versions of cold cash colder hearts and the artist in the ambulance you have got to check them out it also contains two of the songs of the comming cd).

5-0 out of 5 stars A very high quality album.
This CD is very well put together. It has great music, good lyrics, and the they teach good moral values. One of the better CD's I own.If you don't like it at first listen, don't worry, it really isn't my style of music so I was iffy at first.I have listened to it dozens of times now and I simply love it. ... Editorial Review

Just two albums in, and Further Seems Forever seems destined to be known as the band that launched Chris Carrabba’s solo career. Too bad. The Dashboard Confessional frontman may have provided the vocals for the band’s debut, The Moon Is Down, but with newly recruited singer Jason Gleason, the Florida band has developed into a dynamic unit, imbuing its hardcore roots with thoughtful lyrics and incredibly elaborate song structures. How to Start a Fire showcases a set of well crafted, expertly played rock tunes, particularly the inspirational title track, "Pride War," and "Insincerity as an Art Form." The band would probably shudder at the thought of being labeled the emo Genesis, but it’s honestly a compliment to Further Seems Forever’s precision guitar work and dramatic flair. --Aidin Vaziri ... Editorial Review

Chicago’s Alkaline Trio rip off more playful emo punk on Good Mourning, as Matt Skiba’s profane poetry yields another set of sad but very fun songs. The band’s overt pop instincts stayed were muted on past albums, notably their debut, Goddamnit!, butMourning isn’t nearly so abrasive. Draped in silky production, the band’s painful odes to lost love and bittersweet joy lose some edge (witness the toothless opener, "This Could Be Love"). Still, the band has rarely been tighter, and the likes of "We’ve Had Enough" have enough juice to fuel mosh pits throughout the land. Skiba can make you feel bad about yourself no matter how good your mood, a talent that only true emo masters wield with such authority. --Matthew Cooke ... Read more

    Editorial Review

While anything but novel, the follow-up to Brand New's emo-punk-blast debut Your Favorite Weapon features unexpected touches and wisps of maturity. YFW was all about the rage and misery of young, explosive love, presented with Weezer-like hooks. Deja Entendu isn’t really over it yet; lead singer Jesse Lacey still sounds damaged and full of self-loathing on mopey, post-Smiths pop like "The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot." But amidst the Jimmy Eat World choruses are experiments with sudden dynamic shifts and style (like Lacey channeling Adam Duritz for "Play Crack The Sky"), along with ruminations about the misery of cancer ("Guernica"). If Deja Entendu sounds like the work of musicians discovering their talents, it's also about learning that desperate heartache isn't just about girls who don’t call back. --Matthew Cooke ... 5-0 out of 5 stars ........Speechless
This is one of those albums, in which all you can say is wow! From start to finish I wonderful peice of work. I have not heard much of "your favorite weapon" but from what I have this band has matured greatly. Sophmore slump...yeah right. Buy This Album.
    You won't be dissapointed.
    Highlights:
    Play Crack The Sky
Okay, I believe you, but my tommy gun don't
    Me. vs. Madonna vs. Elvis
    Guernica

4-0 out of 5 stars "a diamond in the rough.."
This album brings back a certain quote from Aladdin "a diamond in the rough.." OK, maybe not a diamond.. but some sort of semi-rare rock. In other words, people that listen to both good (radiohead, etc) and bad (all of the bands on the recommended artists on this page)music will probably like this.

    5-0 out of 5 stars I can't understand...ahh...popularity....
Popularity does things to a bands credit...for the worse sometimes. This album is amazing, start to finish, that's all there is to know.Who cares how many people like it, sheesh.First of all, the lyrics are intense and thoughtful and really great, not at all poppy or anything even close to that (i.e. "If I could I would shrink myself, sink through your skin to your blood cells, remove whatever makes you hurt, but I am too weak to be your cure.")I honestly listened to this CD habitually for weeks on end when I bought, in fact, it's starting to skip because of all the wear and tear I've put it through... ... 3-0 out of 5 stars I don't get it..
Why do people keep comparing this to Thursday? They sound nothing like Thursday. (I adore Thursday.) I think this album is 'ok'.last two tracks are my favorite but it's just like "Three Cheers..." where I can't get over his annoying voice. It's just a bit much. (One track in 3 cheers is a perfect example, where he says "by the grace of goooooooooood".He always sounds like he's just been crying for 3 hours and has that 3 year old-temper-tantrum-can't-catch-my-breath sound.)

Still, good stuff, ok, mediocre, a better than 'nothing special'.Not saying I hate them, just that they're albums aren't on heavy rotation in my stereo.Buy it if it's cheap.Better yet download 6-7 songs from either album to get a feel and then buy it if you like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Chemical Romance's first album is a must.
Lets just say If my house was on fire I'd run in to get this and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Chemical Romance
If your looking for deep, eerie, and powerful music, this is the cd for you. Personally, Ive known My Chemical Romance since early 2003, before they started becomming mainstream, in other words: their BEST moments. Tracks such as Drowning Lessons, and Demolition Lovers demonstrate one extreme to another. From brutally drowning a beautiful bride to running away and dying in a hail of bullets with her, this cd is one of a kind. After all, all we are is bullets. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ALEXISONFIRE...A MASTERPIECE!!! ONE OF THE BEST BANDS EVER!!
    (a 15 year old)

WOW is all i can say to describe this album...wow...melodic, hardcore, beautiful, intricate, the guitars..the vocals. I was skeptical about the screaming at first but if you let it sink in it grips at your heart and your ears are glued to every note, every scream, every drum beat..and its amazing..i first bought this CD a day before i was to go to New York for the weekend a 3-hour drive so i popped in the CD...from .44 Caliber Love Letter to Pulmonary Archery.this is a masterpiece..if you just put the repeat on your CD player and listen to this front to back you have to appreciate Alexisonfire..hardcore melodic screams with harmonious singing and an emo-core feel at times..ive had this CD now for 4 months and i still dont get sick of it!!!

.44 Caliber Love Letter (15/10)- mabye my favorite song on the album, the intro just grabs your heart and doesnt let go..the guitar was amazing...a perfect song!

Counterparts and Number Them (10/10)- great singing and screaming....another amazing song

Adeleda (15/10)- omg...i almost pissed my pants when i heard this song..i was breathless at the end...

A Dagger Through the Heart of St. Angeles- (12/10) jesus...great song..all i can say..

Water Wings- (10/10) love how it starts off slow and they go crazy...reminds me somwhat of .44 Caliber Love Letter

Where No one Knows My Name- (11/10) wow...short song..but sweet Dallas with great singing and the screaming tied in perfectly..

The Kennedy Curse (12/10)- one of the more hardcore songs on the album...a great listen...one of the best hardcore songs ive hear in awhile

Pulmonary Archery (14/10)- THIS IS HOW YOU SHOULD END AN ALBUM!!!! this song f%^#$@n rocks! amazing guitars...singing...screaming...everything combines into a perfect blend of melody and screamo...

2-0 out of 5 stars great music, lyrics are bland
I loved this band because musically they are pretty impressive. but after listening to the lyrics it gets kinda boring.i can understand that simple lyrics can add a good classic touch to a song, but some lyrics are just really mediocre and monotone and very repetative. what really sux the most is at times in a song they'll have their good moments and then a few seconds later the lyrics are just horrible.keep the music, fix the lyrics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
So original, such good tunes, fluid melodys, every track on here is shire quality! Buy now!

    Editorial Review

With a handful of indie releases and a few hectic years of touring under their belts, this release marks the Ataris big-label bow. And if the concept uniting it is an ode to the power of memory--a conceit attributed to Richard Hell, but one that ironically might as well have originated with the likes of Billy Joel--Kris Roe and company blitz their way through it with kinetic power and hooks to spare. But therein lies the rub: Fans will find this an album rife with positive energy, bright, well-constructed songs, and upbeat deliveries (if sometimes in service of awkward intellectual pretensions like "Unopened Letter to the World"'s parallels between Kurt Cobain and no less than Emily Dickinson); cynics may hear at as further evidence that punk and alternative rock have been co-opted in service of formulas as well-honed--and rigid--as anything the dreaded Corp Rock '80s ever yielded. Still, if play-it-to-the-back-rows, unabashed power-pop is what the Ataris were after here, they've delivered it with nigh perfection, right down to a slick, pumped up cover of Don Henley's classic-rock warhorse "The Boys of Summer." --Jerry McCulley ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Pop-punk, but in this case, Its good.
Believe me, I hate hate HATE bands like good charotte, Sum 41 and Green day just as much as the next guy, but for some reason, I've really warmed up to The Ataris. I would have never bought this album on my own, but luckily, a friend of mine gave it to me after he listened and didn't like it. One of the things I really liked about "so long astoria" was it's warm, 80's-ish lyrics, stuff that sounds like it could play as a soundtrack to "the breakfast club", but never once overdoes the "teen punk" angle (i.e. GoodCharlotte- I'm not cool, the popular girl doesn't like me, High school blows, my dad hates me blah blah blah). Here's what I thought of each track:

    So long astoria 4/5
    Takeoffs and landings 4/5
    In this diary 5/5
    My reply 3.5/5
Unopened letter to the world 4/5
    The Saddest song 4/5
    Summer of 79' 4/5
The hero dies in this one 3/5
All that you can ever learn is what you already know 5/5
    The boys of summer 2/5
    Radio #2 4/5
    Looking back on today 3/5
    Eight of nine 5/5
    Bonus track #1 1/5
    Bonus track #2 4/5

Just to clue you in, I listen to everything from Nickelback to Simple plan to Fall out boy to Thursday to Breaking Benjamin to The Used, so my taste in rock is pretty diverse. I'm not too big on pop-punk (unless its simple plan, of course), but this album made me a fan. Highly recommended.

1-0 out of 5 stars found myself saying "i've heard this before"
i bought this album because "boys of summer" got stuck in my head. i thought itd be something new and fresh. i struck out there. after the first song everything sounds repetitive. i got bored by song 4, since i somewhat enjoyed "in this diary". i wanted to enjoy it, i really did, but it just seemed so recycled. every song seemed to try and make teenage girls cry. im not a girl but the only time i contemplated crying was when i realized i couldnt get my 15$ back. sure it sounds a bit different from the run-of-the-mill stuff we're getting today, but not by enough. every verse and chorus could be played over one riff, its that identical. im all for a band keeping with its style, but that doesnt mean the style has to be narrowed down and boring. i wouldn't recommend this to many people. sorry, its just weak

4-0 out of 5 stars very emotional
every song on this cd is like a letter. som songs will make you cry you can find out for yourselve all together 7.5/10

1-0 out of 5 stars Are you kidding?
I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why people think that they're badasses when they listen to My Chemical Romance and The Used. Guess what morons, the entire youth of the country is listening to your music, and you're not rebelling against anything in particular, except maybe yourself. Let's face it, the message behind this music is that cutting yourself and writing songs about the same thing over and over again will get you famous. All you need to be able to do is scream. F*ck singing, that doesn't matter. Screamin is badass. That'll get me my money. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Mildly entertaining, but nothing original
Without the vioilnist and Ryan's memorable vocals, I'd imagine this band being another boring dime-a-dozen, but because of those two elements, yellowcard brings more to the table than it's peers. I'd actually give this more like 3.5 stars. It's nothing that hasn't been done to death already, but it does make for a fun, summer record.

    Way Away 5/5
    Breathing 4/5
    Ocean Avenue 2/5
    Empty apartment 3/5
    Life of a Salesman 5/5
    Only one 2/5
    Miles apart 4/5
    Twenty three 2.5/5
    View from heaven 5/5
    Inside out 2/5
    Believe 5/5
    One year, six months 3.5/5
    Back home 3/5

Although they've been played to death on MTV and FUSE, I still find myself throwing on this album every now and then. Like I said, its a great summer album, but with the exception of a couple tracks, its nothing breaktaking.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sucks
This MTV band is one of the reasons real rock is on its last limb. The only fairly talented person in this band is the drummer.

5-0 out of 5 stars yellow card rocks
this band is awesome they are close to blink 182. They have afillde player, most bands have drums, guitar, bass and no fiddle. but this band is unique the fiddle player adds a certian charm to the band. Yellowcard's ablum Ocean Avenue is awesome. I love the songs Empty Apartment,Ocean Avenue and One. This ablum is cool ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars tasty!
on stage or on cd, they just keep getting better with each listen. i am so ready for june 7.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing.
My friend gave me this album, and since then, I have been in love with this band. They incorporate two guitarists, a moog, and an extremely talented lead singer for a very unique (and good) sound.Their lyrics can be as serious as you want to interpret, from random yet fun babble to philosophical thoughts on life. You'll likely hear more of the latter in the music though, but fittingly so: it's a fun album and just makes you happy. They've become one of my favorite bands, and everyone who I've introduced them to like them. Can't wait for their new album.

Standout songs: The Future Freaks Me Out, My Favorite Accident, Capital H, Perfect Teeth

    5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic album/band!
MCS is great! this album is wonderful! it's sad though that this album is only 5,000 somethin' on amazon's sales rank, while that really sucky matchbook romance S&A is 600 somethin'?! how can that be?! people really suck. And to the people who said this review didn't help you, well you're idiots. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great CD.
I think this is a great CD, and a great follow-up to their EP.It isn't, however, the most amazing CD I have ever heard.Yes, the songs are almost addicting and will get caught inside of the intricate veins in your head.Nonetheless, the songs are sickening after awhile. The lead singer's voice, at first, serenades you, and then it detests you.The songs become rather monotonous.Do I hate this CD, though? No.But do I love this CD?No, I have totally heard better.

My favorite song, however, is "Tiger Lily".Lyrically, emotionally, poetically, and musically, this song is one I can understand and listen to day in and day out.Check it out sometime.

3-0 out of 5 stars to familiar
I think this is just to familiar. its not bad music but its music you've heard before in emo soits realy a downside.
i hope they can find there own sound then they;ll be different and better.

5-0 out of 5 stars totally awesome
Alot of people that give this cd a bad rating are only listening to what it "sounds like" not what the words are. Alot of the lyrics are easily applied to your average 20 or so year old. I love it, one of my favorite bands...definitely buy it, plus andy has the hottest voice EVER!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fans of hardcore death metal need this album!!!
I first heard of this band when i picked up a sampler CD at a Hot Topic store. It was the only one on the 28-song disc that really caught my attention. F.I.F. can be put in the same category with Soilent Green, and Skinless. The tempo changes, screaming riffs, and throat-slashing vocals remind me of S.G.'s style somewhat, although this band is definitely like nothing you've heard before. Every once in a while the album hits a mellow spot, where the music gets soft and flowing, only to slap you right square in the face with a blast beat and a triple picked run. This is true death metal. i've listened to the album four times, and each time i listen it's like the first time. there so much going on in this album! also, it's an enhanced CD, so it's got stuff for your computer, too. can't wait for their next album!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece
This EP is brilliant, other bands which almost compare are: Finch, a static lullaby, matchbook romance, thursday, Underoath. for something a bit more screamo try, planes mistaken for stars, further seems forever, beutiful mistake. For all who think ffaf sucks, you have a right to your own opinion but you obviously dont know what good emocore is, these guys are extremely talented and are gonna go far!

3-0 out of 5 stars If you like this sort of thing
this album is fine if you are into the one thing that everyone is doing these days - a nice, whiny singing voice to compensate for the lack of emotion that the singer is really able to express. The singing is just so much like whiny bands people hate. BUT the screaming on this cd is amazing.paired together you either love it or you hate it. I personally feel that these guys are very talented, but if you lean more to hardcore, you should check out bands like every time i die, as i lay dying, norma jean, between the buried and me, some girls, haste the day, the locust, the blood brothers, etc.If you enjoywhining then screaming then whining than this is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
Some have said that this isn't good screamo. They probably know nothing about music. These guys are not only capable of writing really appealing music, but they are also very talented musicians.

I rate these songs very harshly...

    1. Amsterdam Conversations (7/10):I bit too much of a pop feel for me.

    2. Red Is The New Black (9/10):Very good song.Slightly boring at some points with the guitar work, but overall, very good.

    3. The Art Of American Football (7/10):I must give this song an 7 simply based on the guitar work alone. However, it is very repetitive and i dont find myself listening to it much.

    4. The Getaway Plan (9/10):Great Song.Quarter beat snare in the verse kills me though :) .

    5. This Year's Most Open Heartbreak (10/10):Enough Said.

    6. Kiss And Make Up (7/10):Pretty good song, doesn't really grab me though.

    7. Escape Artists Never Die (10/10):Simply Amazing song, though it does drag on a little at the end. But, hey, its the last song. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Over It's Best Release Yet!
Over It is quite possibly the closest thing to a sure bet on the up-and-coming Lobster Records. Their latest album release is nothing short of excellent fast punk. Songs like Fall, among many others, keep this LP in high gear for a full hour. The album takes a few times through to get used to for an emo-kid like myself, but now I can't get it out of my CD player. A surefire effort by the band, Timing Is Everything encompasses everything that Over It has to offer. I'm excited to hear future releases, but probably won't get tired of this one until another is out on the market. A great album altogether, and a good way to spend your hard-earned bucks.

4-0 out of 5 stars timing IS everything
I liked this album at first, but then after listening to it more and more I began to love it, which was proof that "Timing is everything" These guys have come a long way, from being a local band playing dances at MV to the warped tour 2002.These guys rock! JUST BUY THE RECORD!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars older is better
over it is an awesome band don't get me wrong, but their style has changed, go listen to "hindsight...20/20" and tell me that they havn't changed. They got played on 99.1 whfs the other day though that was cool. ... Read more
