5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read for Seekers
I am a recently born again Christian and chose this Bible to help me learn. I am so glad I did since it even has a reading plan to get into the Bible and one to get through it. I have two copies of this one at the office and one at home (the small one I take to church on Sundays, where we use this along with other translations). I find the index very useful and the maps instructive in putting places in perspective.

although I should not respond to the previous scathing review, I feel I must just ask a question: Why is it that non believers are so angry at us? Is it because we're deluded or because they are empty and still in search of their promise. I say "'Why should you care?" And most things taken out of context or literally can be toxic. Just as toxic as the hatred spewed forth by the reviewer who is much more to be prayed for than condemned.

3-0 out of 5 stars Know Your Bibles
Most denominations have a translation of the bible that works best for their faith. It is important to note that different translations take on different meanings to the people who read them. Ever wonder how there can be so much variation in one religion? Translation is a big factor. Here is a list of translations along with the denomination that commonly uses it

Catholics-- NAS, Jerusalem

Liberal Christians (Episcopal, Presbyterians, Congregationalist, ELCA Lutheran) -- NRSV, CEV, Good News (TEV)

Conservative Christians (Baptist, Evangelical, Mormon, Wisconsin and Missouri Lutheran) -- King James, NIV

1-0 out of 5 stars This is not a GOOD BOOK, deluded people!
Oh, yeah. Everyone says the bible is a good book and that it's the word of God.
Get yourself together, people, and stop worshipping a vicious creature, who it can be proven, controls his "children" through fear and is completely authoritarian.
Every one of the right-wing wierdos I've ever listened to speak says that christianity is the foundation of a democratic society. Yeah, right. Seems more like communism to me. Right-wing wierdos probably don't even read their beloved "good book."
May i remind you as to the numerous quotes in the bible which tell the followers of God to kill homosexuals and other abnormal people or outcasts of society?
Allow me to quote Deutoronomy 21:18-19 (This is for all you christian parents)
"If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, "this son of ours is sutbborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard. Then all the men of the town shall stone him to death. Tou must purge the evil from among you. All Isreal will hear of it and be afraid."
God sounds more like one of those dictators you keep hearing about in the news than I kind and loving father. Come out of the darkness, worshippers of foul Jehovah!
I'm just glad god isn't in charge of my country! This people, is the reason there is a seperation between church and state!
And if you think Isreal was the only place where this brutal and wicked law was ever put into effect, read the mayflower compact.
And if you still don't believe me, read exodus 22:18- "You shall not suffer a witch to live."
Many people in this day and age misunderstand what is meant by witch and slaughter and harm wiccans and practitioners of magic.
"witch" in the bible does not refer to either of these, but a person who practices the magical arts for evil purposes.
This led to the witch burnings of the middle ages and the sick, deranged trials of colonial America. And many of those slaughtered weren't even real witches, but early feminists and political opponents of those in power!
Which leads to the issue of religious intolerance: I know many of the people who read the bible on a daily basis are religiously intolerant, and will probably be the people reading this review.
But the golden calf chapter and the story of how Moses and his followers slew three thousand of the gold calf's worshippers sickened me.
Perhaps its just because of my liberal upbringing, but I see this as a horrid, hateful book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Through The Bible In One Year
I personally found this bible study to be excellent. The lessons were broken out into logical and easy-to-follow chapters and the pace of the lessons were realistic to complete in a one year timeframe. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to do a bible study--it's scripturally sound and very informative.

2-0 out of 5 stars Through the Bible In One Year; A must for the serious studen
When I had the privilege to study this work under Dr. Stringfellow, I was fed by a true student of the word of God. Dr. Stringfellow made the Bible come alive which made me want continue studying after he completed thre study. I was able to go through the study a total of three time with this magnificent man of God. I came out with a great knowledge of the word of God which led me to further studying of the word of God. I would highly recommend this study to any student of the word of God.After going through this study, one can feel blessed by God.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Bible Study!
Through the Bible in One Year. Alan B. Stringfellow's rigorous Bible study is one of the few I've seen that takes you through the Bible starting at page one and reading through to the end. It has outlines, central themes, and study questions for each book of the Bible. It is designed to take you through the old testament the first 6 months and the new testament the remaining 6 months. This gives you much more emphasis on the new testament. The old testament sudies are designed to let you see how it points to Jesus Christ. The text of the Bible is not contained in this study making this a lot of study for your money. Excellent Bible study! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Basically sound, but ponderous, lay study guide
The Introduction For Students and Teachers suggests this 322-page, 52-chapter doctrinal guide should be completed in one year, but accomplishing this feat would require the teacher and student to approach the topical outlines in only the most superficial way.

The author reasons mostly from a standard Evangelical Baptist doctrinal perspective, with some unexpected interjections of personal conviction and preference. The "fill in the blank" format does not lend itself very well to promoting class or group discussion.

This is a basic, standard doctrinal study best suited for individuals and groups who want to be told what standard Evangelical/Baptist beliefs are. If you want an inductive study in this regard, or to grapple with the personal or societal implications of these beliefs, look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent

1-0 out of 5 stars i'm giving this away
i've been a christian all my life and was looking for something written by a lay christian woman to help me enrich my spirituality. this is why i bought this book. but it was a disastrous purchase. i agree with an earlier review: this book is shallow. almost everything is based on stormie's personal experience, her own interpretations of scripture, and plentiful quotes from the bible--but without context. but she obviously does not have yet a thorough and well-contemplated understanding of the bible and other christian concepts. maybe another reason i didn't like this book is because i'm catholic, and stormie isn't. so i was mentally arguing with her while reading the book. those who are new to christianity and looking towards religion for a "quick fix" in their life would probably get more from this book. the lord did answer my prayer and i found a copy of "full of grace" by johnette benkovich. that is a richer more in-depth guide for lay women looking for the path to holiness.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have, can read over and over!
This book, wow! I enjoy knowing her life and her past to know that she has come so far, it gives me hope, more hope in God and His Will for my life. I can read this book several times and will read it several times. It gives depth and new purpose in prayer. I got so excited I would read more than one chapter at a time.

I really enjoyed the chapter on Praying to Know the Power of Prayer. This chapter explains why we should pray and the relationship we have with our Creator when we do pray.

Another chapter I really was engrossed in (which the whole book drew me in) was Praying to Forgive Yourself, God, and Others. I think this is an area that hinders many Christians, especially me, although before this chapter I would have not known I had issues of dealing with the past issues that I had not forgiven people for.

I would highly reccomend this book! I cannot seem to express the depth it has brought to my Prayer Life and Walk with the Almighty.

God Bless!

2-0 out of 5 stars Shallow
This book in completely based on the author's own experiences and lacks depth. She gives many examples of her own life and how praying one simple prayer changed everything. For example she prayed for a husband, and poof in a few months she got one, etc. Life doesn't work that way. We can pray for soemthing for years and not get it. She presents prayer as having fast results. She "promises" if you pray her prayers for 20 days you will see drastic results. Give me a break. God works out things in our life as a process and he gives us a lifetime to do it in. This type of teaching can be very disappointing for new beleivers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Prayer Guide I've Read This Year!!!
I would definetly recommend this book to any woman who is seeking a deeper more meaningful realtionship with God. This is an excellent book for encouragement and inspiration. Many of us are in a "Shallow Walk" with God, however this book along with the willingness to open up your heart to God's Holy Spirit will definetl change you for the better. I was skeptial at first about reading this book. I thought it was just another one of those "This is my opinion Religious Finatic Books" But to the contray it was the total opposite. Stormie hit the nail right on the head. She reminds us that all that we need, want, and desire in our lives as women walking with God, can only be obtained through God! She also gives us helpful and very useful prayer guides and prayers as well to help assist us with the opening up of our Hearts to obtain God's Blessings. It grabed my attention from the moment I opened it up and I can definetly say that it has helped me with my walk with the Lord. Reading her book is like having my own personal prayer partner by my side. I hope she continues to do such Great Works for The Lord and for all of us who are atempting to be more like him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Useful and Will Change Your Life If Applied
This book is excellent and will open your mind and show you what the bible has to say about the struggles facing women today. For example, this book addresses topics such as releasing negative emotions, God's desire to prosper us, healing, friendship, etc. etc. In her chapter about friends, she identifies certain signs of unhealthy friends. In her chapter about wisdom, she lists the benefits of seeking and obtaining wisdom as stated in the bible and the actions of a wise woman. She talks about controlling your words, praying for protection of your friends, how serving God will actually lead to living our your destiny and many other topics relevant for today.

This book is written in a way to encourage actual application of Stormie's insights. It is divided in short, readable chapters, with a prayer and relevant verses at the end of each chapter. This book can be read in any order as each chapter contains a stand-alone topic. While this book is presented in a very reader friendly format, the reader should not fly through this book. Rather, this book is extremely useful for daily devotions and life application. Each segment is useful for meditation and the verses set out at the end are empowering when memorized or frequently reviewed. I have used this book as a daily devotional and have found that consistent application of the teachings set forth in this book will change your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars POWER OF A PRAYING WOMAN -READ THIS BOOK!!!
God has really anointed the message in this book! I encourage you to read it with conviction and a open heart! Believe that the words that proceed from your mouth, has the power to change your home, loved ones, a situation that you may be battling with.
God listens when his daughters cry! Mighty women of God, sisters of faith, precious women! You may feel that your prayers have gone unanswered, or the enemy might have told you that God aint hearing your prayers. You stand in prayer believing! And confessing His word! 5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me restore my relationship with Christ Jesus
I was in the middle of darkness and felt like I had no hope, but after purchasing this book and reading it during one of the darkest times of my life I was able to put my life in perspective and go to God for forgiveness and restoration. I encourage all hurting women to read this book. In fact, I will be purchasing this book and giving it as gifts to all the women in my family.

Thanks Stormie, for pouring your heart and love for Jesus Christ into this book and helping to save lives. Be blessed.

5-0 out of 5 stars She covers A LOT OF GROUND in this book!
I honestly don't think I've ever seen a book packed with so much useful information on various subjects. Everything she talks about has an uniting theme, improving your life, emotional health, the strength of your relationship to God, and your physical health (which your emotional health can affect). She talks a little about taking care of your physical health in this book since it deserves mention, but I would also recommend her book "Greater Health God's Way" since you may read this section and feel like you want more information. The physical health section in this book does not include all the important notes she has on each of the steps (which are in "Greater Health God's Way"). The other great aspect of this book is her wonderful lists that make good reference material to review from time to time, such as reasons the scriptures (God's word) says that reading the Bible is important and what it will do for you (there are many more topics... but they follow the same format... answering the questions, why should I do this? what are the benefits that are listed in God's word relating to this subject?) Loving God with All your Mind is also a good book that is similar in that it is directed towards emotional health, but it is not as complete nor does it cover anywhere near the ground that Stormie covers. However, without looking at Loving God with All your Mind, which was recommended to me, I would have never known about this book. Thanks to amazon for their listings of similar books!! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Details for Living God's Priorities In Your Home
This book is a great guide for any woman who wants to better organize her life in order to accomplish all God has for her and to grow into a woman after God's own heart. Her practical advice on a woman's priorities (God, Husband, Children and home) are a literal "God Send". I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical and insightful on how to become God's woman
I had been seeking God about being all that He wanted me to be. I had already begun to streamline a lot of areas of my life. Then I was blessed with Elizabeth's book and I have begun to apply a number of principles in the book. I love the practical questions that's like a Bible study guide. It has been truly been a blessing to me. As much as I go to the Christian bookstore, I had never seen A woman after God's Own Heart. Thank God Walmart now carries it and it just leaped off the shelf to me.

I've really worn it out. Thank God for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!!!!
That's the reason my local Christian bookstore has a hard time keeping this book on the shelf! This book was nothing short of a tremendous blessing to me and I would recommend that every Christian woman purchase it. For the price of one movie ticket, your life can be tremendously transformed if you are open to receiving your blessings. I found every chapter helpful, esspecially the ones where she touched on things that I am weak in. Sometimes I'd have a little notebook next to me, because as I read I'd keep comming up with more and more things I needed to pray on. And do you know that within a few days I've seen wonderful, wonderful transformations and blessings in my life. The greatest blessing has been in my new and improved relationship with my son. I can understand how some may feel overwhelmed with our "assignment" as wives, mothers, women. But you know Elizabeth points out that through God's grace we are able to accomplish His will and purpose for our lives. And we must embrace that! Another thing is that I really loved how she admits her weaknesses in the book, reminds me know that I am not alone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly insightful
A great book just to read, or to use as a Bible study. Elizabeth George writes beautifully to women of the Christian faith. This book, when used with the study guide in the back, is one that really helps women to know how to love God in all circumstances, and how to rely on him through the day to day. Nothing short of spectacular.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life-Changing Book
I've spent a lot of my life being held captive by Giant Despair. This book brought me hope, help, and refreshment.

If you have ever struggled with the "If only" of the past, the "What if" of the future, or the "It wasn't supposed to be like this!" of the present, you will enjoy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Be Transformed by Renewing Your Mind
There's tremendous power in our thinking and our minds. Before we committed a particular action or sin, it began as an idea in our mind which we've then entertained and rationalized in our minds. Our minds is one of the most crucial areas the devil attacks. Our thinking affects our behavior. That's why the apostle Paul urges us, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the RENEWING OF YOUR MIND" (Rom. 12:2, emphasis mine) and by "taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ" (2 Cor. 10:3-5).

How do we take control of our mind? The chapters of this book include: Thinking on God's truth, winning over worry, taking one day at a time, remembering to forget what's behind us, perseverance, trusting the Lord, enduring difficult times, accepting the unacceptable. Though the author's target audience of the book is primarily women, men may also benefit from the Biblical principles taught throughout the pages.

One thing I like to suggest here is Scripture memorization. David said, "Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You" (Psalm 119:9-11). As we continue to fix the truth of God's Word in our minds, it becomes the dominant influence in our thoughts, our hearts, and our actions. The Word of God is also the "sword of the Spirit"--a spiritual armor piece for the battle in our mind (Eph. 6:17). To live a victorious Christian life, we must control our thought life and think God's thoughts after Him.

For those who struggle with a negative thought life or perhaps depression, this book is a helpful guide to overcome that. Our minds change the way we think, feel, and live. But we have control over what we choose to think. This book offers practical Scriptural principles to help us honor and please God with our thought life, and to "love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." (Matt. 22:37) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very convicting
This is one of the best books that I have read regarding women in the church. DeMoss makes no apologies for telling it like it is, and she doesn't shy away from difficult topics. Some of the issues she addresses have been accepted practice within many churches, and though some may have a problem with what she says, she is right- on. I recommend this book to my Christian women friends often.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lies exposed!
This book was wonderful! I immediately started to practice countering Satan's lies with God's Truth, and the results are amazing and supernatural. Nancy is a great writer - as a Christian, I find some Christian authors a little boring...not Nancy. She kept me interested the whole time, and I wanted more. Thank you, Nancy, for revealing the deception. I, for one, am transformed.

4-0 out of 5 stars perfect for a small group study!
This book is an incredible conversation starter for a small group. While my group did not necessarily agree with everything Ms. DeMoss wrote, we did have great discussions following each chapter. Many of us had never thought about the issues she brought up. And even though several chapters deal with marriage and child-rearing, it is appropriate for single women as well. If this thought-provoking, Scripture-based book doesn't get you talking, I don't know what will! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MICHELLE....YOU GO GURL!!!
I had the pleasure, blessing and the privelage to meet and hear the wonderful vessel of God speak at my church's Women's Season Recruitment Night and it was truly a blessing. This is what the Co-Pastor at my church is using in her women's season bible study. Michelle is such an awesome author because she is so serious about being an instrument of righteousness for the Lord and she basically is saying in this book that if you want to be blessed and highly favored in the sight of our heavenly Father than you have to seek Him early, seek Him reverently, seek Him prayerfully and seek Him as if nothing else on earth really matters. This book lets you know that those of us who half step with the Lord as far as being in His will , will always be half blessed. I strongly recommend all of her books. Michelle, I thank God for you and your ministry and continue to be blessed and highly favored.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Insight into a Man's Mind
I am a 26 year old woman who has been married for 8 years. My sister recommended this book to me and I have to say that I was absolutely engrossed in what it had to say. You can say that this book teaches ignorance or racism or sexist remarks, but it does nothing of the sort. You have to read this with an open mind. This book explains men inside and out. Every test that this author mentions, worked like a charm each and every time. I have saved my husband and I many many arguments by being able to understand how he feels. Men are just as complex as women and understanding men is simply a gift. This book tells women to love honor and cherish their husbands. Is it not true that women want the same thing. Haven't you ever heard the phrase "what goes around comes around." That's what this book is about. Treat your man with respect and honor and he will return the feeling with an honest heart. That's all there is to it.

It tells me why my husband says and does the things that he does and helps me to help him. Women want to be treated with respect and honor and dignity and this book shows you how to achieve this on a kind and honorable level. It is not a book about being a doormat and it does not say that you have to give sex on demand as one of the reviewers mentioned. It simply says that when we are kind and loving to others, they will be kind and loving to us.

The only thing I found difficult was the part about not being employed. I agree that there is no more noble a career than being a homemaker, but in todays expensive world, there are often times, no way around it and if you're going to have to work, it might as well be something that you enjoy and if you have to go to school for that then so be it. This book does NOT say to train your daughters to not think for themselves, it simply tells you to teach them the beauty in domestication and femininity.

This book made me feel proud to be a woman and helped me understand the importance of my role in my family and in society. This book teaches that women have the power and gift to make a happy home and raise God fearing, respectible girls and boys.

Take pride in your femeninity and love unselfishly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Religious extremisms at its best
If you firmly believe that woman are meant to be controlled by men and that you must do everything you can to please them (no matter how much it goes against your sense of right and wrong) then by all means, read this book.

If you are living in the 21st Century and are able to see that every person in this world is an individual as well as being equal, you will get nothing from this book but giggles.

Times have changed, and this book is for those that are stuck in the past and for people who married their fathers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, no, Amazing, yes
I have read this book several times over, for other reasons, and have determined that it's teachings mainly facilitate abuse in male-female relationships (especially marriage) and does not empower anyone to adequately address problem issues with any degree of maturity, responsibility, liberty, rationality, etc. Upon reviewing the book, I am marveled by how wonderfully people, who claim to be of character depth and intellectual maturity, can stuff themselves in short sighted ideologies, as suggested in our very own "Fascinating Womanhood". Although Andelin claims that women ought not reduce themselves to the level of doormat or "Severe" abuse, she does not empower them with the necessary tools to avoid such happenings. Indeed, the broadly educated or uneducated, careerless woman with no "masculine skill" is encouraged to escape the confines of "Severe" mental and physical abuse by removing herself and the children. The suggestions in this well respected reading are, at best, surface and pacifying. They are insulting to men and women. I have read all of the reviews and noted a peculiar pattern of thinking among those in support and those in opposition. Clearly, there is intellectual and character disparity in favor of the cons. Has anyone noticed?

If we are to simulate, as many believe, the role of the man in the home to the love that Christ has for the church, then his role, as head, is a service oriented and sacrificial one. He is there to take a leadership and initiating role of service and sacrifice. A role such as this requires utmost care, detail, emotional intelligence, spiritual vigor, maturity, sensitivity, etc, all of which most men are not properly reared to exhibit. If men were being reared with these engrained qualities, they would not be overly dependent on women to placate serious inward character deficiencies as adults. The woman is the man's helpmeet, his equal, not his "fascinating...childlike" helper. It is time people are rightly measured against the bible teachings we claim to support. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Secrets of an Irresistible Woman
First of all I want to start by saying that I met Ms Mckinney-Hammond last year at a Conference in Louisville, Ky (St Stephen Baptist Church - pastor Kevin Cosby. I cried in her arms and she let me. I told her that I had bought this book 10 times and passed it along to other women (ages 13 and up and they have passed it on also). I myself have read the book 3 times along with some of her others. I wish the rating went to 10 then I would give and 11. This book was *****AWESOME*****. All of her books are **** Awesome *** Michelle is so real and I learned a lot about how God loves the women and especially the chapter about dating an unsaved man. I recommend this book to the whole world. Every woman should read this book. I love the way she writes. It flows and it is so easy to read. It also has some funny parts. The 1st time I read I cried because I had no clue how much God really loved me. I grew closer to the Lord reading this book. She (in case some of you didn't know) is a magnificent singer. She sings love songs to the Lord. Thank you Michelle. God is really using you.

5-0 out of 5 stars You owe it to yourself to read this book!
From the time I started reading this book to the time I finished, my attention was "arrested" by the power of the Holy Spirit/Anointing that rests on this author's work.

The book, "Secrets of An Irresistible Woman", deals with timeless Principles that Christian women (single and married) should adhere to. One major point of interest for me was that she consistently used scripture to back-up each given Principle.

I purchased this book unwittingly, as I'd never heard of the

author . . . the title sounded interesting so I ordered it and hoped for the best. The book said "amen" to truths God has whispered to me over the years for instance, "The responsibility of the man is to love the woman; our response is submission" (Ephesians 5:22-33). This is so important because so many Christian women (myself included), have jumped headlong into relationships at the slightest bit of expressed interest from men to our own destruction. Men will pursue what they want; after all, that's their job . . . "He who finds a wife . . ."

Ms. McKinney Hammond provides practical insight and suggestions along with a detailed Study that corresponds to each chapter of the book which I found particularly helpful. This book is an easy read . . . she speaks strictly sister-to-sister; as I read, I began to feel as if we were engaged in a conversation.

This book is on my Christmas Gift List for all my single (and one of my married) friends.

Single Christian Woman, you owe it to yourself to read this book! God Bless you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have book for all Christian singles!!
When a friend lent me this book, I couldn't put it down!! As page after page I read Ms. Eliot's words reflect what my heart and soul had been going through, I knew God had put this book in my hand! I had to buy my own copy, and then I bought copies for friends. In fact I often find myself reccommending this book while in casual conversation. This book changed my life, however, it was hard for me toward the end when she pointed out mistakes women often make, and I kept hitting my head---I'd made the same one's she talked about over and over! It seemed as if she had been following me all of my dating life to write this book--and as I have discussed it with friends I find that they feel the same.
I am a 24 year single mother, if I could apply her words to my life, you can too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Do you want God's choice for your marriage? Then read on....
If you really want the lifetime mate that GOD HAS CHOSEN FOR YOU, then this is the book for you. Elisabeth Elliot effectively communicates the Biblical principle that if you do things God's way, and not the way our culture says to, then you can find the mate He has chosen for you. And then you can fulfill the plan God has for your lives. As Christians, why would you want it any other way? When I became a Christian, I realized that my choices so far had not been the best ones, and that a sovereign God can, and is willing, to do that for me. When I realized that God did have the perfect person for me, that I just had to wait on him, then to me dating others was a waste of my time. Why indulge my flesh kissing someone I have not plans to marry? I wouldn't want my husband to be kissing someone else before I met him, so why should I? I learned to depend on God during the uncertain, and sometimes lonely times until I married 5 years ago. Elisabeth Elliot gives you a practical roadmap to achieve this. This is one of the best books I have ever read. I have many other friends who depended on God, and not themselves, to provide a mate and are all happily married.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Influential Book of My Life
Passion and Purity by Elisabeth Elliot has had a major impact on my life. I've always loved reading from authors who are frank and to the point; those who do not mess around with millions of metaphors and fancy phrasing to get around telling it like it is. Elliot is such an author. Her style of writing is down to earth and inspiring, putting a different spin on everyday thinking. It is refreshing to read a book that presents God's truth in a way that is straight forward and clear. While the subtitle of the book implies that it is like every other dating book out there, let me say that it is anything but that. It probes our true motivations, our pains, and our victories in a way that made me forget that I was reading a so-called "dating commentary". It encouraged me to switch my views around, set better moral standards with more definite lines, and cleared up many gray areas. I believe that every Christian who wishes to date should read Passion and Purity so that they are prepared for all the challenges and temptations that dating holds. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a God-send!!
I recommend this book for any woman, married or single. Dannah speaks directly to the reader as if she was sitting right next to you. She gets your attention and keeps it through the entire book. The information is relative to today's teen, yesterday's teen, and tomorrow's teen. I strongly encourage any woman, seeking to grow closer to God and her future/present husband to read this book. And if you have already compromised your purity, this book can help show you the forgiveness and steadfast love of Christ and how to get back on the path of purity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Honest and Challenging
I just finished reading "and the Bride Wore White" and i was really blown away. I have never read a book on this subject before that was so honest. Dannah Gresh did an excellent job putting herself out there and sharing her insights about what she learned on her journey. It's challenging, readable, and helps you to focus on what God has in store for you concerning sexual purity. It is a pretty radical difference from what our world tells us!

5-0 out of 5 stars BOOK GOOD ENOUGH FOR ADULTS
I am reading the book and I am single 38 years old. I find the book extremely helpful. I think if you want to have a pure life for God as a single woman I think this book would be a good one. I am ready to give the book to several of my friends. I find that it is a decision about being pure. I plan to also share the book with my church website and suggest the teen and possibly the preteen girls of the church read this book and the boys read "Who Moved the Goal Post?". The chapters are just right for the teenagers. I plan to get the leadership book so that I can lead a Bible Study group on this. Thanks so much Dannah and Bob. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Read The Book! Do'nt Become Another Statistic!
I belong to a Bible study that is reading this book. What an amazing time it has been to fully ingest God's word and understand WHY HE created sex in the first place. Our views of sex have gone from to procreate to do it whenever and where ever with whom ever you want. I think that many of us Americans can say we tried that and what did it get us but some mixed up emotions and feeling in some ways used up? Was it all it was cracked up to be? Perhaps it wasn't all it was cracked up to be because we weren't going about it in the way it was planned in the first place. I always thought Christians or God's way would be for prudes....hello? Have you read the Bible? I hadn't. I had no clue. I had no idea that if you follow God's plan for sex in marriage ONLY that it could be so much better. I had no idea that God commands us to have sex almost contantly! We are only to obstain to pray for a short time and then rejoin so as to not be tempted by Satan? Read the book. Be transformed. I think this book or any book on this topic should be a must for any young couple deciding to get married. Heck, it should be earlier introduced to kids that question sex, so that they truly understand what God had planned...and to abstain not to be a prude, but because the best is yet to come. Renew your mind. Change your attitude. Enjoy God's gifts. These are lessons I have had to learn.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has Biblical answers to very private questions.
For too long Christians have looked to the world for our view of sex. It's time we looked to the One who created it. This book is not fluff or an instant solution and it is frank enough to make many women blush. If you are willing to turn the most personal aspect of your marriage over to God, reading this book is a great place to start. I wish I had read it when my husband and I were first married. It would have saved me years of wrong attitudes and mistaken beliefs. I especially appreciated the scripture to back up every point. The 21 questions in the title are definitately questions that my Christian friends and I have thought about, but didn't know where to go for answers. I can't wait to share this with other women.

5-0 out of 5 stars See Sex in a whole new light
This book is INCREDIBLE! It is thorough and hits on many topics that may actually be the underlying problem in your physical relationship with your husband (examples are: abuse as a child, previous sexual relationships, your husband's involvement in pornography, etc.). You will be challenged to grow as a wife, and view your husband through God's eyes. You will find out what it means to be sensual (I think that was my favorite part).

However, the best part is that you will be utterly bathed in scripture. Obviously, our Pastors cannot preach these issues in detail from the pulpit on Sundays! So, this book privately walks you through God's word and teaches you all that you've missed before. It is well researched, and gives you insight into the original text (for those of us who never took Greek or Hebrew!).

Love your marriage enough to read this book! ... Read more

I definitely recommend this book to a woman who wants a good christian man to come into her life......

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting the dating thing right!
Well after making several bad choices in my dating life, I finally grew up. My sister sent this book to me. It really changed her life. This book then changed my life. The book teaches how to first enjoy being single. Then it teaches you to how to date God's way. The author covers issues like building a strong communication foundation, a foundation on prayer and incorporating GOD as the center of the relationship. Then she talks about how to date with the intention of marriage. The author speaks about the importance of listening to God's voice when choosing a lifelong partner. For God looks at the heart while man looks at the outer appearance. If you think you have dating standards, this book will challenge the validity of them. If you follow the advice and example of the author you will find marriage a desirable and an attainable goal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Refreshing take on single christian life
I highly recommend this book. It is a breath of fresh air amoung the other singles books I have read. Dr. Cook helps you to explore yourself and she teaches you how you can be a better woman, so that God can bring your mate into your life. While most books focus on improving your looks, financial(all important!) she takes it further and talks about your attitude, expectations, and walk with Christ. When she talks about a behavior or attitude that is wrong she is not condemming but has an attitude of care. Because she was single (for a long time)and is now married, she explains why you should change, and how it can be done. If you want to improve your relationships and yourself. get this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Please read this book if you have questions but no answers
This book tells it like it is. Michelle writes very basic and down to earth. My 16 year old sister loved this book as much as I did. It came at the right time for her as she is in a relationship that is heading toward a sexual nature that she is not comfortable with. I have been there too. I am a Christian but have been putting my wants for a husband before God and got burned. I am 24 years old and had a very serious relationship for 3 years to a man that I should never have been involved with. This book helped me to see that and helped me to decide what to do with this relationship. It wasn't easy but life never is. I recommend this book to anyone is not happy in their singlehood or in a realtionship that they are not sure of. Please read all of Michelle's books. She makes it very plain how a single, Christian woman should be and how she should conduct her life so she that she will be truly happy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kissed dating good-bye? Now embrass waiting on love.
What To Do Untill Love Finds You by Michelle McKinney Hammond is truly a book worth reading. If you are a single woman who has ever gotten the "why am I still single bug" this is the book for you. Michelle says that our primary question should be "why am I here" and not "why am I alone." Michelle does not beat around the bush. You honestly feel like you are sitting at the kitchen table with your best friend. She is funny and truthful. Her straightforward manor is a breath of fresh air. As a single woman herself, she knows of what she speaks. She shares her bumps and bruises with the hopes that God will use them for good in the lives of others.

Her ideas are Biblical based. The references send me running to my Bible. Michelle put words to every thing that I was feeling, but did not know how to express. Now, my heart truly has a voice. The only problem is that it won't shut up! This book is encouraging and extremely practical. Good for a dateless night! Just Kidding!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for your soul!
All of Michelle's books have been very empowering for me. This book has given me inspiration that we as woman are a true treasure, and the right man will be guided to us. We should not look for them! So sit back ladies, and let your spiritual beliefs keep you strong! Read this book for inspiration, empowerment and a reminder that life is precious and we don't NEED a man, but want that special man in our lives when the time is right. Keep busy, do things you love to do, "get a life" and we will glow! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile addition to your library...
Let's face it, Christians have somewhat of a reputation of being goody two shoes ethereal nerds with an easy life provided by fairy god angels. Nothing could be further from the truth. David Foster busts that myth wide open. From both the Old and New Testaments, he brings forth examples to prove that God's chosen people are going to have it tough. That is intimidating, but he also shows that by our attitude to these difficulties, roadblocks can become mountains to conquer. Wasting no words, he makes clear and concise points regarding depression, regrets, rejection, burnout, etc.

*** Fans of Philip Yancey or Alan L. McGinnis will find this to be a worthwhile addition to their library. Maybe reading this will not make the load you have been entrusted with lighter, but it will help build the muscles to carry it. ***

5-0 out of 5 stars Screwtape is a must read!
The Screwtape Letters is a diabolical delight, a must read for every professing Christian or anyone seeking insight into the mind of the Evil. Lewis delves into the darkest realm of self-absorbance, pride, and the temptation of the human soul through the fictitious correspondence of Screwtape, a senior "Tempter", to his nephew, Wormwood. In so doing, Lewis creates a correspondence with imagery likening to that of Milton and Dante, but with far greater illumination as to the thinking and workings of the spiritual forces opposed to their "Enemy", God. Yet within this disclosure of the nature of Evil, Lewis invokes contemplation upon the true attributes of the Divine. Although short and to the point, this book speaks volumes to the goings-on in the eternal struggle between Good and Evil. Read and reread this masterfully crafted work of Lewis's, and prepare to be drawn into a reflection upon the unseen realm of the supernatural.

5-0 out of 5 stars So that's what they're thinking
C. S. Lewis takes you into the mindset of a pair of demons named Screwtape and his nephew Wormwood, who connive to corrupt an unnamed British man living during World War II. The elder Screwtape is imparting his wisdom on the lesser experienced Wormwood throughout the letters, often agonizing on the effect the "enemy" (God) is having on the subject human. Screwtape discusses a variety of tactics Wormwood might take in pulling this man's soul toward their goal.

The book is very interesting, but somewhat difficult to read. Lewis writes in an academic style which one might expect from an Oxford professor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book About the Christian View of Demons
This book consists of thirty-one letters written from a demon (Wormwood) to his nephew (Screwtape) who is also a demon. CS Lewis does a great job of picturing how demons think and act. The demons address many different issues, and how they use these issues to further their cause of evil. The book has helpful in that it made the existence and danger of demons very real. It caused me to think, "How do demons try and ruin me?" One of the most important tools of the demons is religion. Satan and his workers tried to use religion to draw people away from God and God's Word. This book was a fun read, but also a difficult read in some areas. Parts of the book are very philosophical, and somewhat separated from the overall narrative. I think the book was very helpful, and would be enjoyed by the Christian who is interested in the spirit world. ... Read more
