4-0 out of 5 stars Another Martha Classic!
Here's another Martha book for the collection! With all the ideas and beautiful pictures, it's a book that sure to inspire most to creating beautiful tables and decorations for your own spectacular party!

2-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre for Martha
In this month's (Nov. 2000) issue of ************************, Martha's traditional opening letter proudly describes the way she gave a presentation to potential stockholders about "spreading our costs of creating fresh and timely and evergreen content."What that means for us, Martha's consumptive public, is increasingly recycled content, which is unfortunately the case in this book.

While previous Holiday books have also consisted of compilations of recipes and projects from the magazine, they were richly useful and well-organized.This book doesn't even bother to reformat the original content. The book is divided into three parts - "The Parties," "The Projects," and "The Recipes."So, "The Parties," are basically reprinted articles from the magazine in their original "story" form, whose recipes are inconveniently clustered at the back.Of course, the quality of the recipes is high -included in this book are my favorite cookie recipe ever (Torie's Oatmeal cookies),and you'll be interested in the menus if you're thinking of making crown roast or roast goose this year."Party plan" timelines are also included. However, I see no real reason to buy this book if you've subscribed to the magazine for a few years, or what advantage this book has over the newly released compilation of MSL recipes.

"The Projects" section's obvious intended highlight is the creation of the candy decorations featured on the cover.People with children might be interested in this, as there is a menu devoted to accompany a "Candy Craft Party with Kids," with the quintessentially traditionalpeanut-butter and jelly sandwiches, mac and cheese, little pigs-in-blankets, and cocoa with candy canes.Other projects, like ideas for giveaways, are skimpily represented.

On the whole, I am a great fan of Martha's, but I find previous Holiday books, such as "Christmas with Martha Stewart Living," or "Handmade Christmas" more charming.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's About Time!!
After searching for several years for a Christmas craft book that is simple enough for the average person to follow, Martha Stewarts "Parties and Projects for the Holidays" hit the spot. She does an excellent job of illustrating the instructions to make them easy to follow. She also included some great crafts for children of all ages in this book. Not only are there these beautiful crafts for us to try, but just as many good recipes.A definate and all around great buy!! ... Editorial Review

With the infectious enthusiasm of a kid on Christmas morning, Mario Batali--who presides over a culinary empire that includes the popular Food Network television show Molto Mario, four acclaimed New York restaurants, and a wine store--presents four complete menus for the holidays and captures all the fun and festivity that epitomize Italian celebrations. True to the commitment to simple cooking evident in his first book, Simple Italian Food, the dishes here deliver maximum flavor and enjoyment without being overly complicated.

Batali's version of the famous Italian seafood extravaganza traditionally served on Christmas Eve--known as the Feast of Seven Fishes--includes no fewer than 15 enticing dishes. Marinated Fresh Anchovies are both surprisingly delectable and delightful in their simplicity. Salt Cod with Capers and Mint, Grilled Lobster with Herbs and Arugula, and Sea Bass Ravioli with Marjoram and Potatoes would each be showstoppers as the centerpiece of any meal. Served together, they comprise a truly unforgettable feast.

The Christmas Day menu is equally lavish, centering on a succulent boned turkey breast stuffed with chestnuts and prunes, while the New Year's Day spread is pure decadence. The latter begins innocently enough, with a refreshing aperitivo of tangerine juice, Compari, and soda, then proceeds through a parade of richly flavored dishes, from the hot-pepper-spiked Octopus in the Style of the Prostitutes of Napoli, to the meatball-filled "mythic pasta dome" known as Timpano di Maccheroni, to the prosciutto-wrapped Braised Pork Roll. An irresistible selection of dolci (sweets), including Cinnamon Chocolate Pudding with Pine Nuts and Waffle Cookies, rounds out the meal. New Year's Day welcomes a relaxed daylong open house replete with an ever-changing spread of antipasti, pasta, and dolci, most of which can be prepared at leisure and served at room temperature, enabling the hosts to enjoy the party as much as the guests.

Photos, along with helpful wine suggestions and practical advice on technique, accompany each menu. Throughout, Batali paints a portrait of his Italian-American family that reminds readers that the simple joy of being together is what the holidays are really about. The 60 simple yet elegant recipes can be mixed, matched, and adapted for any occasion. Served together or separately, each is cause for celebration. --Robin Donovan ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of great recipes
I enjoy Mario Batali's quality work, both his interesting/funny TV shows and his interesting/beautiful books (the photographs are beautiful). Often when you buy quality Italian cookbooks with traditional recipes you get the feeling that it's been produced for professional chefs only. The recipes are too advanced and time consuming, and often require access to an Italian food market in order to get all ingredients. The recipes in this book range from uncomplicated to advanced but is "possible" for regular hobby chefs. Most of the ingredients are available at regular grocery stores. However, this doesn't mean that the food and all the dishes are too basic or uncomplicated; it's just that they are "within" reach for us regular guys. I'm sure that both hobby- and more advanced chefs also can appreciate and learn a lot from this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Mario, just not enough to meet expectations
The very best thing about this book is that it is more of Mario Batali cooking Italian food. Once that is said, there are some things which are disappointing about this book.

First, the book only covers Christmas and New Year. I would hardly expect Molto Mario to cover Thanksgiving, but what about Easter? There are also the hundreds of festivals in both Italy and the United States where food is a major element of the festivities. The whole point of `carnevale' is food, as the meaning of the word is `a farewell to meat'.

Second, the book only covers Campania. What about the other 21 provinces of Italy? The best part of this selection is that it is the region from which the Italian food most familiar to America comes. I think Mario would have been much better to name the book `Holiday Food of Campania'. Joe Bastianich contributes some notes on the wines of Campania, reinforcing the impression that the book covers a limited range.

Third, the book is two-thirds the price for less than half the book you can find in Mario's first and third books.

If you are really interested in Italian Festival Food, check out the book of that name by Anne Bianchi published by Macmillan. It even includes a blurb from Mr. Molto himself on the dust jacket and I got it at a deep discount. Highly recommended.

All is not lost. This is still, after all, a cookbook by Mario. It's best feature is to give us recipes in order that we may do a Christmas Eve feast of the seven or ten or thirteen fishes (take your pick). It strikes me that this is another example where Italian food traditions depart broadly from the more formalized doctrines of France or Japan. While Richard Olney, our most analytical writer on French cuisine, dispairs of writing on improvisation in cooking, the Italians seem to revel in it. Like the Japanese, the Italians seem to really enjoy small portions of a lot of different dishes, at least at holiday meals. Mario warns us that because of this, portion sizes may be tricky.

The photographs of the food are much more colorful and more plentiful in this book than they are in Mario's first. They add some value to this rather slim offering. The list of sources at the back of the book is very good for a resident of New York City. I am especially happy to see DiPalo's cheese shop included.

If, like me, you are a Mario fan, you must have this book. This is especially true if you live vicariously through books and enjoy writers' tales of their holidays. If you are really looking for something with more meat on it's bones, check out the volume by Ms. Bianchi.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and traditional
I love this book. The recipes are traditional and delicious, the photographs are lovely, and I like the comments Mario includes with the recipes. I get hungry just looking through it. ... Read more

Snowfall: The Tony Bennett Christmas Album
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Audio CD (11 October, 1994)
list price: $9.98
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

Talk about smooth! Tony Bennett is the very definition of the word. Snowfall practically renders every other version of the songs included here null and void. Even "White Christmas" sounds better in Tony's hands than it did in Bing's. It could be because Bennett's warmth extends not only from the quality of those pipes but his delivery. How many other grown men do you know who could get away with "My Favorite Things"? But it goes without saying that the collection's finest moments come when the crooner takes the romantic lead, with "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas." The real killer here, however, is "The Christmas Song," which practically becomes an aphrodisiac when Bennett sings it. And it's not all about amore, as there's a truly beautiful version of "Silent Night." Snowfall is one holiday tradition you won't mind keeping. --Steve Gdula ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Rediscovered
Frank Sinatra once remarked that for his money, there was no singer he'd rather hear than Tony Bennett.

As one of the last surviving crooners of his generation, Tony has become a swingin' elder statesman of the music world, and has even enjoyed the unlikely honor of a buzz clip on MTV in the 90's. When it comes to tunes with a holiday flavor, you will not be disappointed by his velvety vocals, and Snowfall certainly delivers quality material.

It is decidedly commonplace to repackage gifts for the holidays, and Snowfall neatly fits that idea. Many of these tracks are original recordings from around '64, during Tony's peak, and showcase his pleasant, smooth warbling. This album was originally released to CD in 1994, and comes back to the forefront again in 2004 with the added bonus of a previously unavailable performance of "I'll Be Home for Christmas".

The new track (recorded live on the Jon Stewart Show) is worth the re-release, and easily this reviewer's favorite for its up-tempo swinging bounce. Fans who own either of the previous two versions of this album may be a little skeptical on purchasing it again for one new song, glorious CD packaging notwithstanding.

The body of this album has some really nice pieces, including Bennett's elegant, fast-waltz interpretation of "My Favorite Things" and a moving, emotive "The Christmas Song" that would make Nat "King" Cole proud. There's a great well-arranged medley of "I Love the Winter Weather" and "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" that does something fresh for both songs, particularly when you consider how often they get recorded.

"Snowfall" and "White Christmas" both serve the purpose off stimulating reflection by way of Tony's clear, intoxicating vocals. "Christmasland", "Winter Wonderland" and a medley packed with traditional standards like "Silent Night" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" create a sense of nostalgia for classics-and that's no surprise, Tony Bennett is a classic himself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exellent christmas jazz cd
A great Bennett traditional cd that is jazz and swings. With a great live bonus track.ESSENTIAL

5-0 out of 5 stars 10 STARS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!
What makes this album a superb classic?

Tony Bennett at the peak of his voice in the mid 60s sounding smooth like a saxophone.....

A lush orchestra conducted and arranged by legendary Robert Farnon probably with at least 40 musicians except for the last song which is more recent and done nicely with the trio!

Along with that all that you get CHRISTMAS classics and few lesser knows CHRISMAS songs which is refreshing e.g. SNOWFALL OR I LOVE THE WINTER.

And unlike the early Christmas albums by Nat, Frank and Bing...this one is in STEREO!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Natalie may not be Nat , but she is certainly VERY GOOD!
This album is softer, more mellow then her best-selling "Holly and Ivy."With the strong support of the London Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Cole shows several facets of herself as a singer.Natalie can be attacked, for lacking the edge, the individuality that any singer (ecspecially a"Jazz Singer") needs to set themselves apart from the others. Yet one can not deny that Ms. Cole has a very strong musical ear, a solidvoice, and a warmth that is all her own!Yet Ms. Cole is not a "JazzSinger," she would be best described as a "Pop/Jazz Singer." The Magic of Christmas is certainly a Pop/Jazz album. Her voice is softlike silk, and yet earthy-strong and soaring! She is gifted.Natalie notonly listened to music as a child, she absorbed the music of her father,Louie, Ella, Aretha, etc.. into the fabric of who she is.Would I likeNatalie to be more authentic, less pleasing and sweet, less perfect, a"JAZZ SINGER."Well, sure! I am a huge jazz vocal fan.Yet isthat who she is?Can she sing a song like Sarah or Carmen? Perhaps not. Perhaps as she gets older, and is truly satisfied with her POPular successshe will do less "MOR" music..perhaps not.All I know is, herholiday album is filled with great singing, excellent musicians andarrangers. It is a mellow Natalie, bringing in the holdiays with suchclass that even Nat himself would be proud of.The critic above iscorrect, Natalie has added yet another piece to the greatness of the Colelegacy.A legacy that both father and daughter share.Letsremember...Natalie has survived in the industry since the year of mybith-1975.That is close to 25 years folks, I am sorry, but her fatherdidn't make that happen.Natalie a great many of her supporters made thathappen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Magical
Once again, Ms. Cole displays class and sophistication on her new Christmas album.Nobody can do to a song what this lady does.I have said it before and I will say it again.Natalie is in a class all by herself. Her voice is so clear, so sweet, so strong. What else is there to say.Agreat voice with great musicians, how can you go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Natalie Does it Again
What can I say? Natalie has produced yet another extraordinary collection of tunes that will be heard for years to come. This is a Christmas CD that is completely different from her Holly and Ivy yet just as good if notbetter. She shows grace and elegance unsurpassed. You will not regret thechoices made with this CD.Natalie takes some old Christmas favorites andmakes them her own.Including Sleigh Bells which she does in a style thatis Unforgettably Natalie.Grab your copy! ... Editorial Review

Large enough to hold a massive turkey, two chickens, or a family-size primerib, this 16-1/2-inch roasting pan is clad in three layers of nonstick coating durableenough to withstand oven heat to 450 degrees F. It comes with a nonstick rack that liftsfood off the pan's bottom for uniform, all-around roasting while preventing a turkey'sback from boiling in pan juices. Because it's nonstick, the rack won't pull off pieces of thebird's browned skin. Made of anodized aluminum, the pan is harder than steel andconducts heat evenly whether it's baking lasagna or caramelizing a roast's pan juices. Thepan's riveted, cast-stainless-steel handles stand straight up for easy handling and are largeenough to accommodate oven mitts. The rack has its own set of large handles. 5-0 out of 5 stars A sturdy essential to any kitchen and easy to clean
Our former pan went AWOL during our move--we repurchased immediately for the holidays. This pan has a rack, an excellent feature, good high handles and non-stick finish on the rack. This is a sturdy standby -- a must in any kitchen.

The only negative about a non-stick roasting pan is that the carmelization process of drippings does not work on a non-stick surface as it does on a plain surface. The fat seems to bead up and prevent the formation of that lovely dark stuff on the bottom of the pan that you boil up with stock to make a rick, dark gravy. HOWEVER, my workaround is to roast the neck and gizzard in the pan next to the bird. If you use a fresh turkey and NOT one pre-basted, there will be enough juice to make a dark gravy that can be skimmed after cooling. The neck and gizzard add gelatin from the bones and cartilage and a dark color as they roast. (If you use prebasted turkeys, the oil will dilute the juice, and frozen birds often release a lot of water.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Throw out the Old and bring on the NEW!
It was with a little trepidation that I purchased the Calphalon Commercial Non-Stick 16 1/2" Roasting pan as I have been using a beat up old aluminum roaster since I was in the Catering business 15 years ago.But it was time for a change when I found myself, once again taking the old roaster outside and spraying it with a hose and using a heavyduty commercial SOS pad to clean away the gunk after a birthday party where I needed to roast 4 chickens and make gravy. And once again, like a bugle call to arms, the neighborhoods dogs came-a-running to lick the greasy water as it flowed down my driveway. I realized it was time for a change even without the neighborhood busy-bodies informing me that the greasy water would eventually flow into our town water source. Of course they were correct and not wanting to be arrested for pollution I bought the Calphalon roasting pan.I recently used my new roaster to cook a turkey and I have to say I was immensely pleased with it's performance especially in regards to the even heat distribution and especially the relative ease of cleanup. You can also use this pan to roast several chickens and most large cuts of beef like a standing rib or filet mignon roasts for example. Unfortunately, the neighborhood dogs pass by wimpering an awful lot lately and look forlornly at me while I'm watering the lawn or taking out the trash.

5-0 out of 5 stars Calphalon Nonstick Roaster and Rack--Great Buy
This Calphalon Commercial Nonstick Collector's Edition 16 1/2-Inch Roasting Pan with Nonstick Rack is a perfect set to add to your Calphalon collection. You can roast everything in it, except for a very large (25 lb.) turkey (for which you would need an 18-Inch roaster). The raised handles on this roaster are large enough to use with thick potholders, so it can be easily lifted out of the oven. The roasting rack is nonstick, too, so roasted meat, poultry, or game can be gently loosened from it without tearing the crisped skin. The roaster is heavy duty, with a hard anodized aluminum alloy exterior and Calphalon Commercial nonstick interior, so it does not buckle in a hot oven (up to 450 degrees). For making gravy, I put it across two burners on the stove top, making sure to keep the temperature at medium-high and using nylon or wooden utensils. I wash this nonstick roaster and rack by hand with care, and I store them by hanging them on my pot rack. This set is a great buy and would make a wonderful wedding gift for someone, too. ... The sides of this 10-inch nonstick griddle are low and slope gently, so your crêpes slide out without falling apart and your pancakes flip easily. No matter what you're cooking, you're guaranteed quick and even heat distribution, easy food release, and simple cleaning, thanks to the pan's three layers: an aluminum core, a hard-anodized exterior, and a reinforced nonstick surface. The aluminum core provides rapid heat conduction, while the hard-anodized exterior increases the griddle's durability. The nonstick surface allows you to cook low-fat meals without using any oil or butter. The griddle includes a collector's edition recipe card. As with all nonstick surfaces, you should not use metal utensils or abrasive cleaners with the griddle; doing so could void the lifetime warranty. --Laura Cuthbert ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Egg Pan
I bought this little Calphalon gem in November of last year, and it has quickly become the ONLY pan I'll use for frying eggs. It's hefty, but not heavy. The clean-up is an absolute dream.Worth every penny, and I didn't even have to use too many of those!

4-0 out of 5 stars Can't beat the $13.99 Friday Sale price...
Much heavier than the Anolon 'Classic' crepe pan and cheaper as well.Probably one of the nicest of the Calphalon 'Commercial' line.I have found these to be all over the block in terms of 'heft' and quality. This does not appear to be another Chinese 'cheapo', even though manufactured there.Don't mistake this line as something commercially used, however.Even the warranty claims it is for home use only.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value!
Bought this pan a few months back for $17 and have never looked back! This pan is noticibly heavier than most pans. Don't expect to flip anything on it without the aide of a spatula. Food heats evenly and non-stick surface keeps the food you eat healthy.

This pan makes great dishes and cleanup is simple. Just do not use any brillo or any other harsh substance to clean it. If you soak the pan in hot water for 5 minutes, you can simply wipe it clean with a towel.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great , but not great forever
With all due respect to Amazon's editorial reviewer, I'd have to dispute the assertion that it is lugging heavy pots that has kept French women in such good shape. I'd also be nervous about running Le Creuset pots through the dishwasher, since I would think that dishwashing detergent would dull the interior (and probably the exterior) finish.

This nicely heavy pot, along with the others in the Le Creuset line, is beautiful and functional. It is also quite expensive. The enameled interior of the pot is more delicate than you might think. You must cool the pot down before plunging it in cold water (if a little something is burned onto the bottom and you want to let it soak) or washing it (when you're in a hurry.) Kitchen physics; the time it takes the cast iron to cool is unequal to the time it takes the enamel to cool, and "crazing" of the interior enamel will result. If you really have food that is at all stuck to the bottom, the washing-up process is dicey, since the enamel will scratch easily. The bottom line is that after a number of years, the costly but wonderful pot that seemed like a good investment is not something you want to cook with any longer. Other brands of European enamel-lined cast iron are subject to the same problems.

But it's beautiful to look at, the colors are terrific, and it is a great thing while it lasts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No Bulge!
I have ordered several sets of Spiegelau glasses from Amazon, and have always been pleased.I ordered these with some trepidation, based on reviews noting a "bulge."I am happy to say that the glasses contained no visible flaws.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not an anomaly
I'm just letting you know that if you order these glasses you can expect the "buldge". All other stemware I've purchased by Spiegelau has been beautiful but all 6 in my set also had slight imperfections, buldges, and an odd thickness where the stem meets the bowl. Maybe one could see this as "character".If you want these glasses to match a set, shop around....

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality control
All 6 of of the glasses in my set were at least slightly misshapen, one was positively a mutant! The stems were not centered, and there were, for lack of a better description, glass tumors where the bowls meet the stems. The glasses were also thicker than I expected from Spiegalau.Other Spiegalau items I've purchased have been superb, so this could very well be an anomaly.... ... Riedel Vinum Burgundy/Pinot Noir Wine Glasses, Set of 4
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Kitchen
list price: $100.00
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

Editorial Review

Austria's Riedel is the world's premier manufacturer of wine glasses. Made of 24-percent lead crystal, the Vinum series of glasses are the first machine-made wine glasses to be developed uniquely for each type of wine. Since their introduction in 1986, these wine glasses have had a large influence on the wine culture.

The glasses in this set of four were specifically shaped to highlight the fruit in full-bodied red wines with high acidity and moderate tannin, such as Barbaresco, Barolo, Barbera, Red Burgundy, Gamay, Nebbiolo, and Pinot Noir. The mouth of the Pinot Noir glasses draws wine to the areas of the tongue that perceive sweetness, highlighting the fruit and mellowing the acidity. The large bowl provides room for the wine's rich bouquet to unfold. Each glass stands 8-1/4 inches high and holds 24-3/4 ounces of wine. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars only for good wine
I am a firm believer in the use of this stemware for burgundies and pinots of distinction. But beware - this glass will make lesser wines unravel at the seams.

As an example, I recently discovered a $15 Oregon pinot that I found quite pleasant. After sampling this wine from Bordeaux/cabernet wine glasses at a friend's house, I found this wine quite nice and decided to buy several bottles. However, after trying it in the Burgundy glass, which has a wider bowl which allows more aromas to escape, as well as a more narrow lip that traps and concentrates the bouquet, the wine smelled alcoholic, acidic, and medicinal.

The moral of the story: use this for your premier cru and grand gru burgundies and other well-crafted pinots, which have infinite layers of aroma and complexity to discover.Avoid the lesser burgundies and pinots out of this glass and try them in something that is more forgiving.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not exactly fine crystal
The shape of the glass does a very nice job of highlighting the wine.Yes, it really does make a difference. But what I found disappointing was the mass-manufacture finish. The base and stem have noticeable ridges from the manufacuring process. It's not exactly a throw-'em-away-in-disgust kind of deal, but I somehow expected a little more from Reidel.Face it, this is a snob item, and we snobs prefer a smooth stem in our hands while sipping our $100 bottles of burgundy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Glass Does Make a Difference
Ok, I'm wary of everyone that will read this and, like me in the past, think anyone who believes the glass wine is consumed from can have a bearing on it's taste and enjoyment...but IT DOES!Try them, you'll see.I especially love the thin almost flexible nature of the rim of each glass.Cheers. ... Editorial Review

When you're having a cocktail party, ice needs to be right at your elbow--there's no time to run off to the kitchen and wrestle with a plastic tray while the guests are waiting, holding empty glasses. WMF's stylish stainless-steel ice bucket looks great and will keep ice frozen throughout the evening, while a drainage disk in the bottom keeps ice from sticking to the base of the bucket. Grab by its square handle and the bucket becomes portable for picnics or tailgating parties. --Dana Van Nest ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Little Ice Bucket
I have been looking everywhere for a small, insulated ice bucket.
This ice bucket fits the bill.It is small (6in. high, 5 in. across), insulated, and made of a high quality stainless steel. It has a disk in the bottom to drain the water. It is the perfect size bucket for 2 people. If you enjoy martinis, this is a must have for serving ice on the side.

2-0 out of 5 stars 6 INCHES HIGH AND 5 INCH DIAMETER! TOO SMALL!
O.K. I hate saying/writing negative things... So I'll just write the facts. This beautiful ice bucket is less than 6 inches high (14.5 cms.)and has a diameter (not a radius, but a diameter), of 5 inches (12.5 cms.). My husband and I love buying stuff from WMF. When we go to Chile, we always get stuff there. But this ICE BUCKET... LET'S JUST SAY IT IS TOO SMALL!
P.S. My husband hasn't seen it yet!... ji, ji!

With the intense admiration most people have for martinis and other classic cocktails, you shouldn't be without a cocktail shaker if you really want to entertain--and this shaker is really cool. Running around the edge of the stainless steel cup are the names of 15 cocktails, ranging from a perfectly respectable Whisky Sour to a, ahem, Between the Sheets (brandy, curaçao, dry gin, lemon juice, and ice). Not your style? Turn the outer cup and peruse the ingredients for Gin Rickey, an Orange Blossom, or an Old-Fashioned. Whatever drink is called for, pour all the ingredients (including the fruit) into the shaker. After a few good shakes, remove the top knob to reveal a built-in strainer. Pour the drink into a chilled glass and enjoy. --Dana Van Nest ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars QUESTION.PLEASE ANSWER
Ok...so this isnt a review, but a question I have on this product. Where is the instruction manual to this thing? What do the lines above the alcohol names mean. There are two, three, even four lines above some of the alcohol names. Does it mean the amount of alcohol that is supposed to be put into that particular drink. Please answer...for it has left many of us flustered. thank you very much

1-0 out of 5 stars I've given up
Despite this being a wedding gift from my brother, I've given up on it.It has become nearly impossible to open!Several people have spilled drinks trying to pry it open.I like it, but it simply doesn't work, and it makes you look like a fool when guests are waiting for their drinks.

2-0 out of 5 stars Things fall apart
I hate to be the voice of disappointment, because I had high hopes for this critter. But I'm a little disappointed.

Out of the box, it was a little clumsy. The sheath with the holes cut in it fits pretty loosely, and is secured only near the base. That meant it wobbled a little in my hands when I was holding it, which was kinda annoying -- not criminally unpleasant, but irritating, and if I'd been using it all night, it might have led to spillage if you know what I mean.

But then I used this thing twice, maybe three times, before the metal sheath with the holes cut in it pulled free of the shaker body. That was irritating -- it looks kinda goofy like that, and it's difficult to make any use of the recipes at this point.

The capacity is great -- it's perfect for a bunch of guests. And the look is pretty good, even without the sheath, if you're not close enough to notice the writing. I continue to use it, but it doesn't sit on my countertop longer than it takes to get washed, and it's now a "behind the bar" toy.

At 4.5 stars, I expected much better. ... Read more

Ooh la la! Le Creuset, famous for its beautiful enameled cast-iron cookware, offers this handsome, heavyweight fondue set that is wonderful for an intimate party or romantic dinner. Made in France, whose famous Alps are dotted with dozens of authentic fondue restaurants, it turns out a delicious meal with little fuss. The trick to fondue is keeping it evenly heated for the length of a party or dinner--cheese fondue in particular separates or burns onto the pot if the temperature varies or the pot has hot spots. This fondue set, with its even conductivity of cast iron, maintains a regular, gentle heat that keeps cheese, chocolate, or other sauces smooth and well-heated. The pot rests above a heavy, black cast-iron stand, which shelters an adjustable alcohol burner. Brightly colored, sturdy and charming, this is a set to be passed down through many generations of cooks. --Maria Dolan ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great set
The Le Creuset pot is great. I hardly can't believe that the person who wrote under the alias LeRippoff actually owns one of these sets.
The only thing that dissapointed me is the fact that the burner where the pan is on gets hot which makes it impossible to place the fondueset directly on the table or to pick it up without any precautions. For the rest just compliments for this set: heats evenly, easy to clean, functional on all heat-sources, heavy, looks just right.
Unfortunately these assets do not come for free. Think its quite pricy but worth its money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid fondue with class
The Le Creuset pot is great. It can cook cheese, broth and oil fondues equally well.Cheese fondues won't burn since the iron heats more evenly than thin stainless sets.It won't break if dropped like the ceramic bowls. You can start on the stove, unlike the ceramic pots, so you only have one to clean. The set is very heavy which keeps it from accidentally tippping (a good thing with a pot of boiling oil). The enamel interior cleans easily even with burned -on food.Looks smarter than the cheap sets too.If you're going to make fondue more than once, get a good product. ... The perfect set to kick off a Fiestaware collection, equip a college dorm room, or pair with other Fiestaware pieces for a larger set, this four-piece place setting from Fiestaware consists of a dinner plate, salad plate, bowl, and mug. Celebrated in the 1940s, '50s, and '60s for its streamlined art deco look and colorful glazes, Fiestaware is enjoying a remarkable comeback today. All pieces in this set have the signature Fiestaware rings and match Fiestaware pieces in cinnabar or other colors such as persimmon or yellow. With over 50 Fiestaware dinnerware and accessory pieces to choose from, you can build your collection over time starting with this one-person set. The 100 percent lead-free glaze is nonporous, so it won't absorb foods, and it's durable enough to withstand the microwave and dishwasher. Some stainless-steel flatware may leave marks on the plates, but these can be easily removed with a nonabrasive cleanser. --Emily Wolf

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great set of dishes!
Hi! We love these dishes. With each bonus from each quarter, I have been treating myself to a new color of the 4-piece sets. Previously, I had a "starter" set from Target that lasted 10 years. I wanted something fun that didn't cost a fortune for 4-5 pieces. Everything else I liked cost $45-$75 per setting.

My two kiddos love to choose the color of dinnerware to eat from. When I have guests over, we serve just about anything with this set, mixing and matching colors to make it fun. I truly have people arguing over what color they are sitting down to at the table! These are reasonable, intelligent adults...hence the mixing and matching.
Interestingly enough, people (and kiddos) go for the lighter and brighter colors. I have the plum and cobalt blue, but they are rarely requested.

I have one of those plate racks over my sink, and these plates display beautifully. I get compliments every time. You'd think it was a decorating scheme instead of convenience!

The smaller sized plate is perfect for sandwiches and small portions of a regular meal. My kids love eating from them. The bowls are great for soup, ice cream, salad, pasta...you name it. They stack perfectly fine too.

I was worried about putting these dishes into the dishwasher and diminishing the beautiful colors, but that was for nothing.

Above all, my husband, who is usually tighter with money than I am is getting actively involved in ordering the colors, and getting excited about getting some of the non-essentials.

On a side note, we have already bought a tea-pot and a pitcher. His sister loved the tea-pot so much, we bought one for her birthday last year. It was one of the few things she brought with her when she moved to Europe. She has some of the original fiesta-ware that was passed down from her grandmother. These pieces are keepers, which I hope to pass on down to my children as well!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fire Engine Red!
This is the most gorgeous color and it goes with all the other colors of fiesta so well.. It is a perfect gift idea to start someone off with a set of Fiesta.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple & solid. The food is the art instead of the plate.
Over time, I've come to appreciate simpler, less busy-looking dishes.I like letting the food be the art instead of the plate-pattern.My parents have had the yellow Fiestaware for at least 10 years. The yellow was discontinued in 2002, but the sunflower is close--a bit deeper and brighter while the yellow is more pastel. They are solid, sturdy, not prone to chipping or cracking, and I've been told they're forgiving when dropped. My parents' dishes still look as good as new.I've never noticed any knife scratches on the plates.(FWIW Most of the reviews complaining of this seem to be in the darker colors.)Just about all food looks good on this cheerful yellow plate, which of all the Fiestaware colors, is my favorite for serving food. However a friend has a wide variety of Fiestaware colors and I also enjoy being able to mix and match, and to select dishes according to my mood. ... The real mystery is why it took so long for Etta James to win a Grammy. But this great American vocalist claimed her first statue by paying tribute to another grand singer. James's versions of Billie Holiday-identified tunes like "Don't Explain," "You've Changed," "Lover Man," and "The Man I Love" are the best readings of Lady Day's signatures in a generation. Pianist Cedar Walton leads the seven-piece band in spare and graceful arrangements faithful to the mainstream jazz sound of the '40s and '50s, which gives James ample room to exercise her soaring range and deliver a dazzling, seductive, and warm tour de force. --Ted Drozdowski ... I was surprised that I would love this CD so much because I had heard of Etta James but I didn't know to much about her or her music (she was a little before my time).I have to say this CD is timeless.I love the words of the songs and the richness of her voice.Etta truly makes me wish I could have been around to hear Billie do the honors herself.

4-0 out of 5 stars The only woman to do Lady Day some justice...
'Ya heard?I'm'a make this as short as possible.Etta James has one'a the mos' passionate an' wrenching voices in all blues n' soul music an' when she takes on THESE numbers, you hear that an' them some.As a big fan'a Billie Holiday not many singer could give much credibility to performin' the songs that she made famous. But this jus' works.Ms. James, rather than adopting the ballads with her own style, jus' adopted a DIFFERENT style than she normally does so that she can sing 'The Man I Love', 'Embraceable You', an' 'The Very Thought of You' with all the relaxed subtlety that Lady Day did. With a nice jazz backing section, she lays the loveliness on thick.Strictly fans'a her work only may not be as enthralled by this set, but if your musical tastes cover the whole spectrum from blues to soul to this ol' traditional-style jazz, then definitely check this out. This is one'a the most earnest, sincere, an' well-done tribute albums of all time.Ms. Billie would be proud.

Etta james finally wonaGrammy for this album which is shocking cause hello she's etta james what in the world took the grammy's so long...

When you first hear of the philosophy behind Austrian glassmaker Riedel and its Vinum line of machine-made full-crystal stemware, you can be forgiven for raising your eyebrows higher than prices of white Burgundy. The tongue is divided into four zones, each recognizing either sweetness, bitterness, saltiness, or acidity and that by matching the size and shape of the glass to specific wines, their sensory attributes can be enhanced? Fortunately, with the Riedel Vinum series Chardonnay glass, the company has put its Montrachet where its mouth is and come up with a design to please not only Chardophiles, but also fans of Chenin, Viognier, the Pinot brothers--Gris and Blanc--even noble rotters from Sauternes. A Pacific Northwest Chard tasted in both the Riedel and what was previously thought to be "the good crystal" revealed a balanced acidic brightness in the former and a sort of boozy flabbiness in the latter. With its medium-height bowl and tapered opening, the Vinum Chardonnay glass almost forces you to purse your lips, directing the wine to the mid-tongue's acid receptors and thereby balancing the wine's fruit and oak. --Tony Mason ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful glasses
I am not an oenophile and actually prefer the sweet wines. However, these glasses have helped me appeciate the dryer whites better. The tastes seems to be more complex and I no longer focus on the dryness of the wine.
The glasses themselves are beautiful. They look very delicate but have thus far survived multiple dinners and hand-washings.I received many compliments on them.
These glasses have helped this novice appreciate a wider range of white wines. They are expensive and I feel my heart race whenever anyone brushes too close to them. But they are worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Wine Glass
This wine glass is great for several reasons.First of all, it is very light.Second, you know how much wine to pour (pour to the widest point in the bowl and that is a "glass" of wine). The balance of the glass is good.We also have the burgundy wine glass; however my wife prefers her red wine in the chardonnay glass because she doesn't like to hold the big burgundy glass. If you are only going to purchase one type of wine glass, I would recommend this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does Taste and Smell Different
It is clear to me that these glasses do make a real difference. They make a difference in smell, taste and touch. Seeing that much of wine tasting IS the smell (not just when smelling, but also when drinking), it is no surprise that a different smell leads to a different "taste".

As for taste, when drinking, this type of glass does flow the wine more directly on the tongue, which also leads to a different initial taste (which is one reason to move the wine around). However, the initial taste is more pronounced on the drinking experience.

The fine lip is nice -- not too thin so that you worry about chipping it and swallowing glass pieces, like some of our fine crystal, and not so wide that you think you are biting on a block of wood. The texture is nice, too.

However, I find it harder to swish the wine in these glasses. They seem a bit top-heavy when swishing (but are finely balanced for drinking). It has an advantage of rising on the glass walls and leaving tears for analysis, but I would rather have a more balanced swish so that I can smell it better.

We use a mix of glass types and, depending on the approach (e.g., simple enjoyment or more analytical), will choose the glass accordingly. Still, there is no argument that these glasses make a real difference. ... Read more

Martha Stewart's Hors d'Oeuvres is classic Martha--it's all about food, glorious food. Not just any food, either--it's about hors d'oeuvres. And you know how much Martha loves these tasty little nibbles. This book presents more than 150 recipes organized into 13 sample menus tailored to a wide variety of events. There's a Christmas cocktail party, with a Savory Wreath and Skewered Tortellini with Roasted Garlic Garnish; Seafood at the Beach featuring Goujonettes of Sole and Grilled Scallops with Chervil and Fennel; and Oriental Cocktails in the Parlor with Chinese Pearl Balls and Tea-Smoked Eggs. The recipes are garnished with plenty of advice--from useful tips on make-ahead dishes to the "I wish" advice like "it is difficult to ensure perfect service with fewer than four [servers] for 24 to 36 guests." The book is also useful for picking and choosing hors d'oeuvres for your own events. Even if you aren't planning a "grand and elegant" party for hundreds, you may well enjoy the recipe for Clams with Golden Caviar and Italian Parsley, Saucisson en Croûte, or Corn Muffins with Smoked Turkey. The book is, predictably, full of beautiful photographs--so whether you're really planning a "valentines and champagne" party for 50, an intimate tea party in the kitchen, or just indulging in a little gastronomy, Martha Stewart's Hors d'Oeuvres will please Marthaphiles and general readers alike. --C.B. A piece of engineering wizardry created by James Dyson, inventor of thecyclonic vacuum, the 12-amp Dyson DC07 upright with floor tool combines unparalleledpower with structural advances. At the center of the machine's innovation is the Cycloneair path design, an eight-section chamber that creates powerful, consistent suction. Theconical chambers generate 100,000 g of centrifugal force, pushing dust and dirt out of theairflow into the vacuum's 1-gallon collection cup. With no bag to clog, the vacuum's 270air watts of suction remain steady. The large, transparent collection cup is easy to checkand empties tidily--pop it off, hold it over a trash bin, and pull the trigger to release dirtwithout having to touch it. The DC07 also comes equipped with a multipart filtrationsystem to improve overall air quality in the home. The HEPA filter, measuring 412square inches in surface area, traps microscopic particulates and allergens. Expertly built, the filter is designedto last the lifetime of the machine.

Suitable for bare floors and carpets, the Dyson upright features a 14-inch cleaning pathand edge-cleaning bristles. A simple foot pedal switches off the brush roll for bare floors, and the nozzle automatically adjusts for changes in carpet height. The floor tool featuredon this model makes for straightforward nozzle vacuuming where you usually strugglewith a hose. Its ultralow profile needs only 3-1/2 inches of clearance, so it reaches easilyunder sofas, beds, and low chairs. For above-floor cleaning, the vacuum comes with acleverly stowed, 17-foot quick-release hose. The hose's handle reverses to an extensionwand, and onboard accessories include a crevice tool, a dusting brush, and an upholsteryattachment. Made from the same material used in crash helmets, the vacuum isunquestionably durable. Plus, the design only puts 4 pounds of weight on the handle, sopushing and turning is easy. This model comes with a 35-foot power cord and a limitedtwo-year household warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

I have owned my Dyson DC07 for over a week now and I am still amazed at how much gunk it continues to pull out of my carpet.I have two large hairy dogs and two cats that shed so much I can't believe they are not bald. The Dyson DC07 has performed beyond my expectations in cleaning up pet hair and dander as well as the miscellaneous other stuff that gets tracked in my house.I have used it on carpet, bare floor and on my car's interior. The suction is awesome and the vacuum is relatively easy to maneuver around furniture. Emptying the dirt receptacle is simply a matter of detaching it from the body of the vacuum and pulling a trigger device, which releases the dirt into the trash. It is much nicer than fooling around with bags. I also like the position of the on-board tools. They are handy but not obtrusive.

Other reviews have complained about Dyson vacuums being loud.I find the air sucking noise (you have to hear one to understand what I am talking about) that it makes in the upright position to be annoying but when I am using it, I don't think it is any louder than any other vacuum. It is a vacuum, not a broom; you have to expect some noise.

As much as I like this vacuum, it does have some shortcomings.First, it doesn't edge very well and using the wand and hose is a multi-step process. You can't just detach the hose and such up dirt along the baseboard. Let just say that it is more of a pain in the butt to convert the vacuum from an upright to a canister set up than it should be.It doesn't take that long to convert it once you get a handle on how to do it, but I wish the designers had realized that not everyone is a mechanical engineer. The second problem I have with the Dyson DC07 is that it is just an ugly color combination.Sparkly purple and tomato red...yuck!Everyone that I have shown this vacuum to comments about the colors and that it looks like an overgrown kid toy. Finally, the vacuum has not made cleaning my stairs any easier.I did not buy the turbo tool and I regret it.The hose is awkward and the vacuum on the landing seems to want to tip over when you get to the top step.

I absolutely recommend that you pony up the money to buy a Dyson vacuum if you are looking for a machine that can handle high traffic dirt, animal hair and dander, and little kid toys without clogging up or losing suction. The positives of the Dyson far out way the complaints as far as I am concerned.

5-0 out of 5 stars Haven't had one in the US yet....
...but we'll have to get one soon due to a move to a bigger apartment.

I did have the "animal" vacuum when I lived with my wife in the UK.it was about $30 dollars cheaper than it is in this country, though.

We had a 3-bedroom, two story house with a mix of tile, hardwoods and very cheap carpet that grabbed cat hair.

We had been using a very cheap, ineffective cannistor vacuum prior to our purchase. It had only been a couple of days since I had used that vacuum, but after I went over just the area rug in thee living room with the Dyson a couple of times, the cannister was half full. There were colours in the carpet that I hadn't seen before. It's a proper turkish carpet and it looked so much more vivid after that.

As for the people having trouble with the vacuum moving around as you use the wand and hose:it was designed more for use on stairs. The box over there talks about the hose being long enough for you to vacuum all the way to the top of the stairs. If you need to use the wand for more than that, then you'll just have to deal with it.

If you have animals and you don't get one with the "turbo tool" I would definitely recommend getting one seperate.with two cats it was definitely worth it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Better to trust Consumer Reports
The Dyson is very heavy and is a strain to carry up/down stairs (and I am young and physically fit), even though it is called "light and easy to maneuver."

It is cumbersome to change attachments or to pull out the extending wand, even though it is called the "quick draw hose." I also would think that for an older person or someone with limited dexterity, it would be difficult to find and be able to push in the release/lock button on the extending hose and other attachments.

It's not possible to get the full reach of the hose because the machine will tip over or roll toward the hose and into whatever is in its path.

The crevice tool on the front of the wand/hose is positioned so that it is in the way and can easily nick furniture if you're reaching behind something, such as a table leg.

It is difficult to move from one surface to another: we have a modest threshold of less than half an inch between rooms, and I have to pick up the machine because the vacuum won't roll over it.

The motor housing/body is so high that the machine will not allow getting even a few inches under many pieces of furniture-and the prospect of changing to the low-reach tool is not appealing because it's a hassle and doesn't work well anyway.

I received the Dyson DC07 low reach as a gift so I must use it, but I would never buy another. Yes, it is kind of neat to see all the dirt that it collects in the bagless canister, but you can get the same thrill with any other good bagless style. Yes, it's funky and glitzy, but aside from its touted suction power, it's a terribly designed, expensive product. Trust Consumer Reports.

4-0 out of 5 stars A voice that is aging, but still so warm and comfortable
This is for Etta James' real fans, the ones who have listened to her through her career and still want to hear more from her, even realizing that she is past her prime. Her voice still has that warm quality and she still has the style that gives one the feeling that she is singing particularly for the individual listener.

Of course, this is of the jazz genre. But Etta is so respectful of both the secular and the serious Christmas music. Her opening number, "Christmas Wonderland", is very inviting, and features great work from bass, piano, guitar, and trumpet. This is one of Etta's charms, the way she gives plenty of space to the jazz musicians working with her.

"Merry Christmas, Baby" is given a properly bluesy interpretation and besides her wonderful interpretation of the song, features solos from Red Halloway on Tenor Saxophone and Cedar Walton on piano.

She gives lots of spirit to "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town", helped again by Cedar Walton's piano and also George Bohanon's trombone. This is followed with a transition...possibly the two greatest sentimental secular Christmas songs, before she goes into the more serious "The Little Drummer Boy", and then the traditional carols.

Her "Silent Night" is indeed very moving and while there's a little improvisation in her performance and performances by Sametto James on Electric Bass and Red Halloway on Tenor Saxophone, there is respectful reverence here.

The greatest surprise to me, and the song that I needed to listen to several times in order to appreciate the unusual presentation, was her slow paced rendition of "Joy To The World".I like to think that she was expressing an idea to us, that the type of joy experienced during these holidays need not be the wild, loud, hilarious kind, but rather a very deep inner joy which expresses itself in a soulful way.Again, great accompaniment maintaining the quiet yet joyful mood from Cedar Walton's Piano and Red Holloway's tenor sax.

And then the effective closing cut is "O Holy Night".If you have any appreciation for jazz, I believe you will experience , while listening to this CD, how jazz can be used when in the hands of sincere artists to create a loving Christmas atmosphere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tradition with a tough and sassy edge.
Most of the songs on this album are the same old Christmas carols youÕve heard a million times, but I promise you have never heard them sound quite like this. Etta James has always been a tough, earthy belter with as much soul as Aretha Franklin or Otis Redding. And a brave singer too, willing to let her voice range off into all kinds of moans and groans and astonishing scatting. But as sheÕs gotten older (sheÕs in her sixties now Ñ although youÕd never guess it from the strength of her voice), sheÕs developed a depth and subtlety, a jazz singerÕs phrasing, that makes her unbeatable. Cross Billie Holiday with Janis Joplin and you end up somewhere in the neighborhood of the mature Etta James.

She brings all those gifts to this Christmas album. She sings every song as if it is coming from the depths of her soul. Her Silent Night brings tears to my eyes. Jingle Bells is one of the happiest and most playful versions IÕve ever heard. And she sings Santa Claus Is Coming To Town in such a sly, sexy way, youÕll never be able to hear the song the same way again ( What DID Santa Claus bring you, girl?).

And as if Etta James at her best were not enough, she brings along a perfect band, including Cedar Walton, who also accompanied her on Mystery Lady, her Billie Holiday tribute album. Christmas music doesnÕt get much better than this

4-0 out of 5 stars Something Different for Christmas
This album is wonderful for those of you who are sick of Mannheim Steamroller, Bing Crosby, and the like.Etta James' unique voice makes this a CD for those who want something different to listen to during the holidays. This album is great to listen to because it has some wonderful, tight, playing by some seasoned jazz musicians, along with fresh arrangements of Christmas standards. The CD has been done quite tastefully, yet still has a nice edge to it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This sleek appliance demonstrates why KitchenAid food processors enjoyan unsurpassed reputation. It's big: the main bowl holds 11 cups. It's powerful:a 670-watt motor guided by an electronic sensor provides smooth, consistentspeed. It's remarkably easy to use: precisely fitted parts assemble anddisassemble quickly, the flick of a fingertip controls the on/off and pulseswitches, and a two-piece food pusher makes it easy to process herbs and othersmall items. It's flexible: a 9-cup chef's bowl nearly doubles the processor'scapacity while permitting a second ingredient to be processed without cleaningthe main bowl, and a 3-cup minibowl with its own blade fits inside the big bowlfor smaller jobs.

Operating the processor is a thrill--like driving a luxury car. It weighs 10-1/2 pounds and measures 14-1/2 inches high, 8-3/4 inches wide, and 10-1/2 inches deep. There are no seams to trap food, making cleanup a simple matter of wiping the base and placing all the parts in the dishwasher.

Included with this model is a citrus press for quickly extracting juice; a whipfor egg whites and cream; a dough blade; a thin (2 millimeters), reversible discfor slicing and shredding; and medium (4 millimeters) shredding and slicingdiscs. All store in a transparent plastic case (10-1/2 by 7-1/2 by 7 inches). The instruction booklet is exceptionally easy to follow and includes dozens ofrecipes. Should the processor fail during its first year, KitchenAid's totalreplacement warranty guarantees delivery of another machine. Other than thatunlikely eventuality, no cook would part with this processor. --FredBrack ... Read more

We haveno complaints about this processor. I have used probably all the attachments except the egg whip- no, wait, we used that too! It all works great! No problems since everything works as promised. Good to see some things still are made mostly like they used to be.

3-0 out of 5 stars Difficult cleanup, components not hardy enough
I bought this KitchenAid food processor about three or four years ago after doing extensive research between this and Cuisinart. It functions as promised and I've used it to grate cheese and mix/puree various items. It's a nice-looking and weighty appliance.I've had no problems with the blades gouging plastic as other reviewers have said, and there's been no problem with the motor dragging.

However, I've started making homemade pet food and it seems that the 11-cup bowl is not nearly large enough.Furthermore, the bowl and lid are fragile:I've already had to buy a replacement bowl because one of the safety teeth in the bottom broke off, rendering the machine inoperable.Additionally, the lid has a crack in it; although it still functions, it's only a matter of time before that needs replacing too (and the replacement lid is sold separately from the bowl). You'd think I'm an ogre who treats my belongings harshly, but that's not the case.

Another thing that sorely irks me is that there are many crevices in the lid where ingredients get jammed, and it does not clean up easily. From what I can gather by looking at product photos, they've upgraded the design of the lid (to include a much-needed larger chute), so I don't know if this is still a problem.

Tip:If you're going to grate cheese, stick the cheese in the freezer first to harden it.Soft cheese will definitely be gummed up in the shredder blade and won't make for an easy clean-up.

Fortunately for me, I recently got a good deal on a Cuisinart 14-cup food processor. Here's to hoping it will be more durable and easier to clean than my KitchenAid.

5-0 out of 5 stars Making the switch from Cuisinart to KichenAid
When I wrecked by decade-old Cuisinart, I was all set to buy a newer model Cusinart to replace it. That is until I looked at various consumer reviews and decided to switch to KitchenAid (I have the KitchenAid large mixer, which has been reliable for many years). I'm thrilled with this model KitchenAid food processor and glad I made the switch. I ordered the black model to match all of my other appliances. The old Cuisinart looks like a toy compared to this model KitchenAid (to be fair, a comparable new Cusinart might be just as large and powerful.) The juicer is a plus; I'll be putting away two other electric juicers. The KitchenAid is fast, heavy (an asset) and quiet. Great new toy. I appreciated all the other comments, which helped me make my decision. Best yet...I ordered it from Amazon (free shipping plus a rebate) and it was delivered in LESS than two days! Could not believe it! Wonderful service. Thank you!! ... Read more
