4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good
I also came across GO MY WAY by accident though I am very familiar with the 70s stuff but lost interest after Davey Pattison joined. Other reviewers have complained about the Dylanesque vocals. I thought they suited quite well. As another reviewer mentionned, there is a feel to the earlier Trower CDs, and Richard Watts has that lazy cool deep voice that best suits Trower (Like Dewar) than Pattison. We must remember how much the Media went on in the early days about Trower being a White Hendrix, but now it is obvious that Trowers style is unique tho we do get Jimi overtones in part on this CD. The title track starts things off, and it is a perfect start to this CD.The only track I didnt like was breathless(Watts vocals). It was the 1st time I heard Trower on Vocals, and I was duly impressed when he sang Into Dust (Really atmospheric). I have sampled his vocals on Someday Blues (Via Amazon) and I can confirm with most reviewers on that CD that his vocals there were tired and boring, but when he shares vocals,it works. The guitar playing is top notch - Loads of Wah Wah and Wow Wow. I strongly recommend this CD

1-0 out of 5 stars Trower's Worst CD Yet by ten million miles!
I'm a guitarist and have been a big Trower fan since the very beginning. For the life of me, I can't understand how Robin has lost his ear for decent songs and vocals. For the life of me, I can't understand how any true Trower fan could even mention the title of this CD and "Bridge of Sighs" in the same sentence. This would make a decent Tom Petty album, but it makes a terrible Robin Trower album. It's tired, draggy, and monotonous, not even considering the "Bob Dylan's grandmother" vocals. Robin desperately needs a new vocalist and a decent songwriter. The only decent CD he's released in the last few years is 20th Century Blues.....and it's not that great....but a helluva lot better than this!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
As with so many, I had lost track of Robin over the years but stumbled onto Go My Way by accident.I was blown away to the point of goosebumps. The songs are refreshing and memorable. The complaints about the vocals are irrelevant (reminds me of Bob Dylan on a better day than he ever had). The guitar work is vintage Trower.Robin is one of the few guitarists who can keep you mesmorized all the way through a nine minute song.To me, a much better album than Living In time. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic rock guitar
fantastic performer.Classic rock , hendrix alike guitar.

4-0 out of 5 stars If You're Not All Ready A Trower Fan, You Will Be...
I've had this album since it was first released and consider myself lucky to have found it that soon, having been a Trower fan since the early '70's when they guest starred on a local late night Philadelphia television program as an "unknown" artist.
Up until that time, Bridge of Sighs was considered, by most, the definitive Trower album.Me, I've always been a fan of"live" albums, and this one is among the best of the era. For Trower fans, I'd put it right up there with The Allman Bros. "Live At The Fillmore East."
Sonically, from a production standpoint, the first track, Day of the Eagle, is not the best this album has to offer.Like many other British produced live albums, it seems to take the sound/recording people some warm up time to get everything right. This is no exception, but at least it's honest about it. No studio tricks were used to fix the thin, but clear sound on that first track.
And, this performance also let's us know why Robin Trower was not the lead vocalist in the band from the title track to the first album, Twice Removed From Yesterday.
You won't find a lot of jamming in this performance as the band plays it pretty straight.
In spite of these minor glitches, this is still a fantastic example of a '70's band, and Trower, at it's very best. All the Trower standards are here with a few not as often heard.
While "Day" and "Bridge" are still terrific selections, I found myself, and as a Blues fan, warming up to Gonna Be More Suspicious sliding into Fine Day. But this album, as the bands music in general, is mostly blues based material.
The mysterious and haunting Alethea is another good bit of lesser-known Trower.
The album culminates in a Trower version of B. B. King's Rock Me Baby.
Listening to "Live At BBC" makes me wish they would do a reunion tour/album and re-live the memories all over again.Maybe they would even create some new memories.
If you're a long time Trower fan, or just discovering how overlooked they were back then, and you don't have this in your collection, BUY IT, RENT IT, or STEAL IT, but listen to it!!! You won't be sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!Trower bends those strings and makes them sing!
I never knew who Robin Trower was, until a friend of mine had an extra ticket to an Aerosmith concert sometime in the mid-70s.Some band / person I had never heard of called "Robin Trower" opened for them thatFriday night in Houston, Texas.Well, to put it in simple terms... Trowerblew Aerosmith off the stage!End of story. This awesome collection isthe next best thing to being there again.Day Of The Eagle sets the stagewith some power riffs by Robin. He then breaks into a soulful rendition ofBridge Of Sighs, as he literally pours his emotions into the his Strat. Other classics like the the out of this world Twice Removed From Yesterdayand Daydream transport you back to the land of felt posters, incense, blacklights and lava lamps. This album has it all and is a must for anydiehard Trower fan! ... Editorial Review

Robin Trower left Procol Harum to pursue his own musical vision and, while Spinal Tap has made the efforts of those who pursued such "heaviness" seem positively ludicrous, one listen to side one of Bridge of Sighs should prove once and for all that such pursuits are not always in vain. Trower leads a power trio of unrestrained heaviness, anchored by his sublimely bloated lead guitar and bassist James Dewar's throaty vocals. The wind sounds that segue the title track into "In This Place" may be a bit too much mystical gobbledygook but Matthew Fisher's subtle production throughout makes this one of the finest introductions into early-'70s wasted drug rock. --Rob O'Connor ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Trower's masterpiece
Bridge Of Sighs (1974.) Robin Trower's second album.

When the British progressive rock act Procol Harum disbanded, its members went their own ways. One of the members was guitarist Robin Trower, who began his solo career. Recruiting bassist/vocalist James Dewar and percussionist Reg Isidore, Trower recorded and released his first solo album in 1973. Unfortunately, his first solo effort, entitled Twice Removed From Yesterday, wasn't a big commercial success despite its being a very good album. Trower's second solo album, Bridge Of Sighs, was released the following year. The second album is widely known as Trower's highest quality, most popular, and best-selling work. Are these claims valid, or are Trower's fans mistaken? To find out, read on.

Twice Removed From Yesterday was an awesome solo debut for Trower, but everything that album did good, Bridge Of Sighs does even better. Trower's guitar mastery is something that must be heard to be appreciated, and it's not surprising that so many fans have dubbed him the "Hendrix of the seventies." Credit is also due to Trower's band, bassist-vocalist James Dewar (who is one of the most underrated vocalist in classic rock, by the way), and drummer Reg Isidore. It's a shame these two musicians never get as much credit as Trower himself, because they do their jobs very well. The actual songs themselves flat-out rule, making this an undeniable five-star classic. Trower's "heavy blues rock" stylings never sounded this good. You've got four huge hits here - Day Of The Eagle, Too Rolling Stoned, the title track, and Lady Love - ALL OF WHICH RULE. And Trower doesn't stop at the hits. From slow, melodic numbers right up to the hard rockers that made him a classic rock legend, there isn't a single weak track on this album. Why do many of Trower's fans call this his best album? The answer's simple - BECAUSE IT IS. He never ceases to amaze me with his musical talents, and perhaps no LP demonstrated that as well as this one.

You've got two choices when it comes to buying this album - an American remaster with bonus tracks, or a British twofer that combines this album with its predecessor. I shouldn't have to tell you that the twofer is the better deal, and I recommend you get it. The live bonus tracks are good, but nothing too great. The twofer is better because you're getting two masterpieces of albums, not just one.

Is Bridge Of Sighs not a part of your classic rock CD library yet? If it isn't, you don't have a classic rock CD library. Trower never sounded this good before, and he'd never sound this good again. This, my friends, is REAL rock and roll - not that crap that's been flooding the mainstream. Buy this if you want to hear some real rock.

5-0 out of 5 stars Robin Trower "Bridge of Sighs"
Many consider this to be Trowers finest hour. As for myself I might enjoy Trowers first, "Twice Removed from Yesterday's" spacey strecthed out Hendrix inspired "Bold as Love" peroid explorations a hair more, but "Bridge of Sighs" is Trowers most focused album. It is hard to argue with the sonic explosion that is "Day of the Eagle," that starts this album. Just killer heavy duty blues/rock guitar turned up to eleven, then followed by one of Trowers finest heavy riffed spacey songs, the title song "Bridge of Sighs." WOW! I remember hearing these two songs in tandem back in the 70's & I was hooked for good. Trower is truely a master of his instrument, his thick tone, shimmering sustain, sense of melody, & passion really come off as some of the heaviest most melodic guitar playing known to rock. Pigeoned holed as a Hendrix clone, Trower is much more than that. He is Hendrix's ace disciple easly rivaling his mentor's inspiration with this album, & maybe even surpassing it.

The passionate singing of bassist Rob Dewar is an overlooked treasure on many of Trowers albums. Here on "Lady Love" Trower & Dewar crescend in a seamless whole of sincere delicate axemenship & impassioned singing to make it a listeners delight. On "Too Rolling Stoned" Dewar shows us he is able to thump the bass to Trowers rollicking leads & riffs. Trower shows some of his funk on "The Fool & Me." Really there is not a clinker in this whole album, it's is a collection of flawless work from a master of his instrument. For lovers of killer Rock guitar!!!

    ***** Stars

5-0 out of 5 stars Like Hendrix on Downers (Not a Bad Thing)
This album was my first exposure to guitarist Robin Trower back in the 1970s. I was knocked out by it back then, and I still enjoy it today. Trower fronted a power rock trio with a very distinctive sound. He is often called a Hendrix clone, and there are superficial similarities. His harmonically sophisticated chord voicings, walking leads behind the vocals, and heavy use of sustain on his solos are all obviously influenced by Hendrix. But where Hendrix was always exuberant and sexual in his playing, Trower has a languid and introspective undertone. I think of him as Hendrix on downers, and I mean that in a positive way. Hendrix was a better and more versatile guitarist, but Trower has more emotional depth.

On slower songs like "Bridge of Sighs", "In This Place", and "About To Begin", Trower's guitar work is beautifully moody both in texture and melody. On the upbeat numbers, Trower proves he can rock, but there's still that little edge of emotion underneath. Trower is not super fast as a guitarist--I would put him in the same league as Eric "Slowhand" Clapton--but he is a master of the "sustain and bend" technique. He knows how to make the guitar sing like the human voice. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Robin Trower - 'Someday Blues' (V-12)
One thing you can say about Robin Trower is that his place in music is still as relevant now as it was thirty years ago.At least to his true followers.'Someday Blues' is obviously an all-out blues effort and for the first time Mr.Trowers is supplying the vocals.Yes,you read that right.Actually his singing is pretty decent.Fear not,shred-guitar fans, this CD doesn't suffer one bit.All ten cuts are well written and played, with the best being "Crossroads","Feel So Bad","Extermination Blues" and "Looking For A True Love".Longtime Trower fans should like this disc and who knows? It could easily draw some new fans.Give it a spin.Enjoy.

4-0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER SOLID TROWER CD
I've got all 23 TROWER CD's and could therefore be called biased.
I also own about 600 other guitar orientated CD's and this is one of the better blues CD's. It took at least a dozen listens
before the finer points came to the fore.If you listen only once or twice and are not familier with TROWER's style you may think this is just another formula blues CD. His vocals are adequate but his guitar playing shines as ever. It's subtle with beautiful
tone and every note has it's place, none are wasted. It is a bit understated compared to other TROWER CD's but develops a charm of it's own after a number of listens. This is definitely not one of his best CD's ( it's one of the few that only earns 4 stars in my book ) but if you like the blues and TROWER you will like this.
P.S. For more up to date TROWER sounds with better vocals ( sorry ROBIN ) check out 20th CENTURY BLUES. This CD features LIVINGSTONE BRAMBELL on bass and vocals and is a raucous blues outing that reminds me of his best output from his glory years.

3-0 out of 5 stars The whole is less than the sum of its parts
As both a big-time blues fan and a long-time Trower fan (more than 25 years), I was intrigued to see that Robin had done a straight-up blues album. While Robin's singing is okay and each of the tunes on this album is okay, none of the songs is especially memorable. In fact, the songs all seem to sound about the same, so much so that the repetition makes it fairly monotonous. For that reason, I would best describe the whole as being less than the sum of its parts. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Caroline
Here's my Passion of the Christ ex girlfriend Carol with her mother Lois. Great Lutheran song Robin. You qualify though for the Rainman line, as do some other people in the know, "You're answering a question from a half hour ago."

3-0 out of 5 stars passion
out of trowers many great albums, this is the least of em. the problem on this one lies with the singer, he actually sounds like cher on some cuts. i always prefer james dewars vocals to anyone trowers had since, but whatre ya gonna do?:night: is the best cut on the album,(instrumental)its just hard to keep remembering this is trower. overall, worth a listen, but this is the bad apple of the bunch.

4-0 out of 5 stars Where'd this come from?
I just sort of stumbled accross this obscure Trower album. Some other reviewers are [mad] its not the 70s Trower self indulgent long psychelic solo stuff. Its not. The guitar solos are woven in 4 minute vocal song format, mostly. They are bluesy, haunting and beautiful especially on "Night" which is one of those songs you want to play over & over again. This is the r&b end of pop rock. If you think you're too good for pop rock, then go back in whatever bag you like. In the planning of Passion I can see Trower's agent/ record company pleading or demanding something commercial to get him back on the charts. Robin Trower's strong suit has always been his melancholic, sweetly lyrical side--with an ability to give it a blistering rock edge. Its here in spades. If Dylan could make Nashville Skyline, why can't Trower do this cool record? ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars A DIFFERENT ( BETTER ? ) TROWER
This CD proves that age doesn't weary them. This could have been recorded by a young / hotshot guitar slinger. The participants are young enough to be TROWERS off-spring. The raw energy flows freely from this CD and it sounds like rugged urban blues with an attitude. I would not havepicked this as a TROWER CD. His attack on the guitar is a few notches heavier than in the past and provides a welcome edge to this CD. His tone is still as georgous as ever and his ability to play unconventional leads shines throughout. LIVINSTONE BRAMBLE provides some gut wrenching vocals and the backing is superb. I have all TROWER CD's and this one has shot straight to the top of the list.
If you like BLUES / ROCK / GUITAR / TROWER , buy it. This is like a benchmark for this genre.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Slightly Different Trower!
20th Century Blues is a hard rockin' blues CD that was produced in 1994.The power trio on this CD consists of Robin Trower on guitar, Mayuyu on drums and Livingstone Brown on bass and vocals. Those familiar with Trower know that the vocal duties have primarily belonged to James Dewar and in his brief absence, a host of others including Trower, Davey Pattison and, as in this case, Livingstone Brown. The CD itself contains all Trower originals with the sole exception of Lowell Fulson's "Reconsider Baby".The music is vintage Trower with plenty of dark tone and heavy riffs pouring from his Fender Strat.Livingstone's vocals are somewhat reminiscent of ZZ Top or Gov't Mule and seem to fit the bill rather nicely. As an alternative, check out Trowers own noticeably lighter vocals on the CD "Someday Blues". Overall, not Trower's best work, but very good nonetheless.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must-Have" Trower Album
From all the carping about the vocals on this CD you'd think that the blues should only be sung by the golden-throated. By the same token, I'd be the first to admit that if William Shatner signs up as vocalist for Trower, it's one of the signs that the music world as we know it may soon be due to end.

I liked this CD so much when I first got it that I listened to the whole thing over and over again. After a while a few of the songs emerged as 'graters' - I can't listen to them on high volume or repetitively, or my skin crawls. Yet, there are also songs on this album that have NEVER worn thin. Like so many Trower CDs, there is a range of material here from ok-good to amazingly good.

20th Century Blues lives up to it's name - don't expect it to deviate much from a gritty, amplified Stratocaster blues. In that sense the vocals fit it perfectly. And, with over 20 years of devoted listening to Trower, this is one of my favorite of his works. If you like Trower and you like blues, you've gotta add this to your collection. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A master musician and band at work
I remember when these records came out--"Long Misty Days" was a dense wall of well-produced guitars, a lush record.Truly, this was Trower's arrival as an established musician/artist of note, his credibility and consistency by this time (1976), well established.

If anything, this was almost too polished a record; however, there was no arguing with the virtuosity of play and the song writing. It still sounds remarkable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very well worth picking up - consistent all the way through.
Boy, that combination of Robin Trower and Jimmy Dewar just grows on me more and more every time I listen to this stuff. They were made to play together, from the sound of it...

Some really good stuff on this Cd -I particularly liked "Some Rain falls", "Long Misty Days" and "I Can't Live Without You". I have LIVED that song... they hit that one out of the park. All in all, I can heartily recommend this CD to you.

Robin is absolutely one of the most talented, most underated guitarists in the world. Why he's not a household name is beyond me. Must be too talented???

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Days, Weak Dreams
Trower peaked on Long Misty Days title track. It is the epitome of the term "wall of sound." This song is for Trower what 'Let it be' is for McCartney : his last great inspiration which in turn inspires any who hear it. Never again would Dewar sing a song this powerful. Also from "Days" is the beautiful 'I can't live without you.' Unfortunately the style of this soulful ballad would repeat itself to lesser effect in "In City Dreams."
This is a soul album that could easily be mistaken for a tribute to Curtis Mayfield. Incredibly they even go disco on 'Smile.' 'Further on up the road' is the only track from "In City Dreams" that rocks! This is the album that sent Trower from arenas back to the club/theater circuit. "Long Misty Days" is a classic; "In City Dreams" is best taken in small doses. ... Read more

    BEST LIVE ROCK ALBUMS EVER

5-0 out of 5 stars This one kicks ...
Let me tell you what - Robin Trower and play, and dag nab can that boy Dewar sing a good blues song.

Robin is to Hendrix what air is to polyester. That is to say - absolutely NO comparison. Robin stands on his own, I hear NO "jimi knockoffs" on anything I own by him. The man stands, and stands TALL, on his own merits.

I was blown away by the new version of "Bridge Of Sighs", so I said "ok, I will go in and buy this one next.". VERY glad I did - this stuff is classic good straight-ahead rocking music. I love it - and you will too.

    Rock on, Robin!

5-0 out of 5 stars No he does not sound like Jimi but he sounds like...........
ROBIN TROWER!! I can see where the influences can be (use of the Univibe, Fuzzface, etc) but he stands alone in his "quality of sound".And great tunes also! He always has a great sound, plays with great style, and gives 100% on everything he plays (Isn't that the three ingredients of any great musical artist?) I wore out my LP version of "Live" when I was a kid and still get the same hair raising feeling when I hear it today. The track order of this disc should be tracks 9-15 first then tracks 1-8. "Live" should have been first so if you buy this, listen to it in that order. He is a true virtuoso of the instrument with a unique vibrato. Any electric guitarist that uses effects will learn something from this recording. Check out also James Dewar's bass playing and vocals,(especially the last chorus of "I Can't Wait Much Longer"...Whew!) and Bill Lordan's drumming.(Solo at the end of "Alethea"!!!)
    Check it out!

4-0 out of 5 stars Superb "BLT" Along With So-So "Truce" - Still A Bargain!
The chemistry between the extraodinary electric blues-rock guitarist, Robin Trower and the remarkable clear tenor bluesy vocal of the legendary Jack Bruce combines fantastically on the first "album" on this digitally remastered "2-fer" CDas "BLT" is a classic, 5-star, 10-song collaboration. Drummer Bill Lordan (The "L" in "BLT") compliments both Trower and Bruce wonderfully as this trio provides an inspired, listener accessible, cohesive mix of rolling power-blues rockers and slower tempo, absolutely flowing catchy blues ballads as Bruce's flawless vocals and Trower's energetic licks are right on target throughout. "BLT" standouts although every track is enjoyable are my personal favorites "Life On Earth", "Into Money", Once The Bird Has Flown", "Carmen" and "End Game".

"Truce", the second "album" of this CD is on the other hand a disappointment in comparison. It is an uninspired overall effort and lacks consistent staying power. To sum it up, this is a 2-star effort (a 3-star for devoted Bruce and Trower fans who still can get a feel for the music and musicianship - it's not all so bad).

Overall, the good news is that the sound is super with the digital remastering throughout both albums and since it is a "2-fer" it is a nice bargain to have. Besides, I have yet to see "BLT" on CD by itself here readily in the USA to date. Do yourself a favor and grab this.

    Overall rating: "BLT">5 stars "Truce"> 2-3 stars

4-0 out of 5 stars BLT soars, TRUCE wilts
It was a good experiment; get Cream's vocal and bass powerhouse teamed up with one of the most sonic guitarists since some guy named Hendrix and sparks, well, sparks mostly fly. Except when they don't, which is the case with the second Trower/Bruce team-up, TRUCE. That one sorta lays down and rolls over. But the first album, BLT, is a smoker! From the opening riff of "Into Money," through the power blues of "No Island Lost" and the balladry of "Won't Let You Down" and "Carmen," heck, throughout the entire ten tracks, B(ruce) L(ordan) and T(rower) restore the good name to "power trio." Dunno what happened the second time out, but, to be fair, TRUCE is a relatively pleasant if sleepy album. If you can find BLT by its' lonesome on CD without taking out a second mortgage, snap it up! Otherwise, this is still a good purchase to make. I might even grow to like TRUCE as much as BLT with a few more spins.

I bought this ALBUM when it first came out.Later that year,(1981)
B.L.T. made a surprise drop at the Royal Oak Music theater and played front to back of this album and blew away a very stunned Detroit crowd away.'nuff said. ... Read more

Personaly I thought this a great work.I spent many an evening enjoying it. I also liked BLT with Jack Bruce on bass. Although the style was somewhat more reserved it was a compliment to the collection of the works of Robbin Trower.

4-0 out of 5 stars Robin Trower!!
I've always enjoyed these albums but I prefer the out of print cd's of one album per disc. Simply because on the two per cd they leave out 'the shout' one of the best rockin tracks. But that being said it's better to have these than nothing.

Robin Trower does soft rock and disco on CtM. What was he thinking? Too much pressure from record execs to be hip? Ive had this album for +15 years and Ive only listened to it 3 or 4 times. Cant bring myself to do more.
Victims is one of his best, blusey , hard rock, unmistakably vintage Trower sound and tone. Just compare `Birthday Boy' to
`THe Ring' and you'll understand what Im talking about.
i am dissapointd with the hatchet job on the song selection and with a tune From `Back It Up' makes no sense, but I still have the LP to fall back on.
5 stars for Victims (in its original format) -1 for Caravan ... Read more
