New Jersey Average Customer Review: Audio CD (09 February, 1999) list price: $9.98 -- our price: $9.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Thanks to Slippery When Wet, Bon Jovi procured the sort of world domination dreamt of by demented European dictators and Bond villains--at which point the band decided that they didn't really want to rule the planet. Though New Jersey contains several Jovi stadium anthems, including the single "Bad Medicine," and though the album's videos showed that the intricately layered and feathered coiffures were intact, this is where Bon Jovi began changing. The title offers a broad hint as to what Jon Bon Jovi in particular was trying to change into: short of renaming the album I Come from the Same Place as Bruce Springsteen, he could scarcely have been more obvious about his intentions. "Living in Sin," indeed, takes Bon Jovi's increasing obsession with Springsteen to the verge of pastiche. --Andrew Mueller ... Read more Features Reviews (44)
Funny thing about this disc, there were 5 top 10 singles, and not one of those is actually the best song on the album. A song buried on side 2 called "Wild Is The Wind" is not only the highlight of this disc, but quite possibly of any Bon Jovi album. "Slippery When Wet" will always be their trademark, but "New Jersey" was their true masterpiece. One of the very few albums that even people that say they don't like Bon Jovi will tap their feet to every tune on it. "New Jersey" is truly a testament to why Bon Jovi has been around for 20 years.

The first single, "Say It Isn't So", demonstrates the sound, John Spinks's guitar, which at times sounds like the Edge's, harmony vocals by Lewis and Spinks, and a catchy rhythm guitar that occasionally reminds me of the Police. It's a wonder why this song didn't make it on the charts. The hooks are worthwhile and that feeling of being dazed by some kind of girl works: "I'm staring into a space that was filled by your face" and "I'm walking in the midnight sun once again" Then comes "Your Love", a well-deserved Top Ten hit, which contains that memorable first line: "Josie's on a vacation far away..." Keeping an illicit affair going makes for the synonymous use of "lose" and "use", as in "I don't wanna lose your love tonight." The video for this song incorporated the painting of the album cover art. "I Don't Need Her" starts with that churning Edge-like guitar before telling of conflicting love. "I'm so glad I don't need her" he says, but then, it comes down to "But in the end I just can't leave her/Can't leave her tonight." The last single, "Everytime You Cry", is a swaying hold-those-lighter ballads, and one of my favourites on this album. A bittersweet ballad: "When you say goodbye, I die just a little bit-cry just a little bit more." "61 Seconds" seems to be on one hand the numbing sensation of being the clockwork 9 to 5 man and how the scheduled and timely office world is defined by numbers, in this case the hands on a clock. "There's a clock on the wall/a mirror reflecting it all/just an imageless photograph/There's a space in a frame/Can you imagine a man with no name" 61 seconds is "all it takes for the nine-to-five man to be more than one minute late" The catchy "Mystery Man" could've been another single, especially with that "In the middle of it all- However, "All The Love" became the third single, making the Top Twenty, and it's one of those "I should've..." songs of a dying relationship. The full title was "All The Love In The World" and when those words on the first night become the same words on that last day, they sound hollow. The chorus rhythm of "Talk To Me" has shades of "All I Have To Do Is Dream" by the Everlys "Taking My Chances" is a slower number that veers towards filler. "Nervous Alibi" is a languid "Where were you out last night?" interrogations to a girl. He tells her "Don't you know I hate those clothes you wear/For I've seen men undress you/And with their eyes caress you/Another nervous alibi." Yet another memorable group contributing to that unmistakable 80's sound on a debut album that succeeds despite the few filler tracks.

Slippery When Wet Average Customer Review: Audio CD (09 February, 1999) list price: $9.98 -- our price: $9.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Slippery When Wet transformed Bon Jovi from minor-league poodle rockers to global superstars on the back of hit singles "You Give Love a Bad Name," "Never Say Goodbye," and, of course, "Living on a Prayer." From the scantily clad car-wash girls on the inner sleeve to the "You lost more than that in my back seat / Yeah!" lyrics, the album is blissfully untouched by irony and subtlety, which actually adds to its charm. With guitarist Richie Sambora and songwriter Desmond Child, Jon Bon Jovi has produced a slew of consistently memorable tunes, and this album contains its fair share of them. Slippery When Wet won't change your world, but it will, undoubtedly, rock it. --Ronita Dutta ... Read more Features Reviews (74)
That superstardom is well-deserved. Listen to this album! The vocals are rough and yet melodic and soulful all at once. The hard rock guitars and drums are top-notch. When in the history of rock music has their ever been a catchier chorus than that to the all-time classic, also # 1 hit "Livin' On A Prayer"? "Wanted Dead Or Alive" is a fantastic "cowboy anthem". "Never Say Goodbye" is one of the best power ballads of a generation; it was even the theme song for my high school senior ball (as I'm sure it was for numerous others at that time). Those are just the biggest hits that everyone heard at that time. How about the heavy (if generic with the lyrics) leadoff track "Let It Rock", the beautiful power ballad "Without Love", or the anthemic, passionate "I'd Die For You" (which reminds me a bit of "Runaway" with its sound)? These are all great songs. Almost as good are the rockers "Raise Your Hands" and the closing "Wild In The Streets". The only song that to me doesn't stand up in quality is the silly "Social Disease", but it is still a fun song with a rocking sound. This album got so huge that I had to stop listening to it for a while after the fact. But now, all these years later, it still sounds great. For sure, it is a landmark '80s rock album, a defining album of that great decade of music. Everyone who grew up in the 1980s and listened to rock music should own this album. An all-time classic.
Jon Bon Jovi finds his voice on this album (after mixed results with his Springsteen-ish wail on his first two efforts) and while Richie Sambora hadn't shed his Eddie Van Halen tributes yet, he sounded more alive on this album than on most any other tracks he ever laid down. The rhythm section is really one of the more underlooked in rock but the production is top-notch, letting every musician have their moments. Every song has the typical 80's gloss and shine, yet the band pushes themselves to demonstrate that they have real, live talent. Every song on this album is a winner, as well, from the Pyromania-ish kickoff of 'Let It Rock' to the mega-hits Livin on a Prayer, Wanted Dead or Alive, You give love a Bad name, and Never Say Goodbye', right on down to the killer album tracks like Raise your Hands and especially 'I'd Die for You'. Slippery When Wet is Bon Jovi's most consistent, focused affair, and if you want a good case to make about how good the 80's could be, then look no further than this album.

Tantric Average Customer Review: Audio CD (13 February, 2001) list price: $13.98 -- our price: $13.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Days of the New hit with the singles "Touch, Peel and Stand" and "Shelf in the Room." But they were a band in name only, and when singer Travis Meeks dumped his bandmates, it was a blessing in disguise for the musicians. Now, ex-DOTN members Todd Whitener (guitar), Jesse Vest (bass), and Matt Taul (drums) have a stellar, if sometimes mumbling, singer in Hugo Ferreira, and as Tantric, carry on the heavy acoustic-rock tradition they started in DOTN. Overall, Tantric's dozen-song debut is rather linear, with many of the songs more vibe-y than distinctive, though there are a few standouts. While the disc's first single, "Breakdown," is spare, midtempo, heavy-mellow, and typical of the album as a whole, departures include "Frequency," with its faster, angrier approach, and "Paranoid," with a cool fuzzy bass tone and ominous vocal delivery. The classical guitar stylings and diverse and welcome vocal inflections make the lighter and dynamic "Hate Me" likeable, while the complexities of "Revillusion" also add interest. Ultimately akin to a less dour Alice in Chains meets Creed, Tantric's solid songs are certainly the radio sound du jour, and possibly of tomorrow as well. --Katherine Turman ... The rest of the album breezes by, a compact and yet lavish album, produced crisply and beautifully. "Mourning" adds a mix of piano and classical guitar with lead singer Hugo Ferreira's growl in the last verse to make up the finest song on a great CD. The former DOTN's picked up exactly where they should have. This isn't a concept album where the band thinks that they are a little bit bigger than the music. It's just good rock music, first and foremost, something that Meeks took out of DOTN when Whitener, Vest and Taul left the band. If you like DOTN's first CD, you'll like this CD. If you like good rock music, you'll like this CD. That's the bottom line.

Bounce Average Customer Review: Audio CD (08 October, 2002) list price: $13.98 -- our price: $13.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review One of the few lineups to make the leap from 1980s "hair band" into long-term semi-respectability, Bon Jovi's eighth studio album is somewhat true to the band's pop-metal roots, though Bounce is ultimately mellower and more theatrical than previous outings. "Undivided" might be a Tom Waits number, all gravelly vocals and booming drums hinting at a dark hipness before kicking into a commercial, lush chorus. Still, it's got a pleasing edginess, as does the toe-tapping, mechanized feel of "Everyday." Jon Bon Jovi's forays into film have clearly influenced Bounce. "You Had Me from Hello," the title nicked from Jerry Maguire, is spare, poignant, and gentle, while "The Right Side of Wrong" references Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and has a piano-heavy Springsteen-meets-Billy Joel feel. Typical ballads like "Joey" and "All About Loving You" also populate the album, which often feels like a singer-songwriter outing, or a movie soundtrack, rather than an album by a veteran rock band. Some of Bounce's bouncier tunes may still appeal to the now-middle-aged fans of the band's "Livin' on a Prayer" era, while the melodrama marking much of the album might lose those who prefer headbanging over Bon Jovi's more mellow and grandiose musical musings. --Katherine Turman ... Weathered Average Customer Review: Audio CD (20 November, 2001) list price: $18.98 -- our price: $9.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The multiplatinum kings of MOR nu metal have gotten a bit more aggressive and intense--to fine effect--on some of Weathered's 11 stellar, radio-friendly tracks. For those who prefer the soft side of singer/stud Scott Stapp and his cohorts, there are the melodic and soaring "Hide" and "Don't Stop Dancing." But more interesting is "Bullets," which finds Stapp raging before a surprisingly heavy and intense musical backdrop. Other highlights include the Seattle-sound throwback "Freedom Fighter," the Zeppelinesque "Who's Got My Back," and the disc's first single, "My Sacrifice." The effects-laden, passionate "Signs" contrasts nicely with the laid-back, world-weary title track and "Lullaby." Ultimately, Weathered gently expands the seemingly fail-proof formula. --Katherine Turman ... Read more Reviews (689)
Bullets - starts off this album kind-of strangely, being the most angry song the band has ever written. 7/10 Freedom Fighter - Yet another heavy-metal song, powerful, but good-sounding. 8/10 Who's Got my Back - VERY POWERFUL, a brilliant song, and its unexplainable how great it is live. 8 and a half minutes long, sends you through a journey, asking the question of what is there left to depend on. 9.5/10 Signs - Yet ANOTHER heavy song, a really metal-like riff, this one is also powerful and great live. 8/10 One Last Breath - Kind-of tiring after hearing it over and over on the radio, but its a nice song, fits the "pop-like" side of Creed. 7.5/10 My Sacrifice - My personal least favorite song on this album, overplayed... 6/10 Stand Here with Me - Excellent, my favorite song on the album. Very riff-driven, with an awesome guitar solo, this wonderful tune will get stuck in your head. 10/10 Weathered - The title track, has a very cool riff. Its heavy sounding, but has a nice groove to it. Nice song. 9/10 Hide - Very surprisingly is yet to be a single, but who knows what the future will hold. Very soft and has a good guitar part. 8.5/10 Dont Stop Dancing - Very uplifting and tells you never to give up hope for what you believe in or what you're struggling through. 8.5/10 Lullaby - Ends the album very well, yet not one of my favs. 7/10
Creed almost SUCKS LEGALLY. Those newborn christians wankers got in court because their dumbass singer (he is a horrible monster and I pray for his death, satanically of course) was too drunk to sing with his usual horrible voice at one show. The thing went in courts because fans (who must suck a lot too, if they had to go to a Creed concert to realise they sucked) felt ripped off. I bet obese people like Creed's music. Obese people should go to jail for being violently ugly. Asin: B00005OM4M |

Ten Average Customer Review: Audio CD (27 August, 1991) list price: $13.98 -- our price: $13.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Part of the '90s Seattle grunge triumvirate completed by Nirvana and Soundgarden, Pearl Jam debuted with Ten, their most accessible, least self-conscious album. Over time, PJ's rep as a politically correct band just a little too above it all to prostitute its music on MTV has nearly superseded the music. But before that, they were a simply an in-your-face, in-your-head, loud, melodic rock band. And lead singer Eddie Vedder was known for his possessed stage presence and a primal growl that sounded like it required three vocal chords. The personal, narrative singles "Alive," "Jeremy," and "Even Flow" catapulted the reluctant band into the 10-million-plus-sales division. Subsequent albums are more intricate, subtle, thematically complex, and, in many ways, better than Ten. But the band may never repeat the stampede caused by this debut. --Beth Bessmer ... Read more Reviews (538)
What PJ and their debut album Ten are at heart is good rock. PJ are a throwback to the 60s when rock was supposed to send a message to the listener. Personally I've always found those types of recordings a bit preachy. But PJ does it in such a way that it's more of a release than a burden to listen to. Ten deals more with emotional letting go and dealing with things than in the actual rage that you bottle up because of these awful things. In this respect they are the exact opposite of Nirvana. It is the release of this rage and the catharsis that it brings on that makes Ten an emotionally charged album. Ten is easily PJ's most rock oriented album. There's little experimentation here. The songs are basic and they rock. Ten is not my personal PJ favorite, but it's a very close second to Vs.

Human Clay Average Customer Review: Audio CD (28 September, 1999) list price: $18.98 -- our price: $14.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Creed burst out of Florida with 1997's My Own Prison, a dark but commercial debut reminiscent of the early-'90s Seattle sound. Creed's moody guitar grunge and ardent lyrics, coupled with singer Scott Stapp's passionate vocals, helped My Own Prison sell millions. Human Clay demonstrates that this likable quartet hasn't messed with success; they turn in a sophomore outing rife with evocative moodiness, soaring guitars, and a dark, roiling, intense vibe. "Beautiful" is but one of the winners on this strong 11-song CD. Haunting and indeed beautiful, the track is more delicate and seductive than most heard here, as is another lilting and mysterious entry, "Never Die," which boasts some Middle Eastern accents. "Higher" is typical Creed--safe, emotive guitar rock for the masses, but with a slight edge. Memorable hooks, Soundgarden-like guitars, and Vedder-like vocals make Human Clay at once compelling and effectively redundant. --Katherine Turman ... Read more Reviews (743)
1. Are You Ready. 9/10 Great album opener. Sets the tone for the journey Creed is about to take us on. 2. What If. 10/10 Very angry song and very well done. Overall the best song on the album. 3. Beautiful. 9/10 About how beauty is skin deep, I really like the guitars on this one. 4. Say I. 9/10 Another stand out track. Everything is good about this one. 5. Wrong Way. 9/10 I like the drumming on this one. 6. Faceless Man. 9/10 Starts off softer than explosive chorus's take over. 7. Never Die. 10/10 One of the best songs. I love the lyrics, the guitars and drums really go well together. 8. With Arms Wide Open. 10/10 Big radio hit about Scott learning he will be a father. Perfection. 9. Higher. 10/10 Even bigger hit. Don't let it get to you that it was somewhat overplayed, it is a great song. 10. Wash Away Those Tears. 9/10 Another great song that masters the soft/hard dynamics wonderfully well. 11. This emotionally gripping, thought provoking and completely original piece of work absolutely blew me away, far away. Tori takes you on a journey of self discovery that will touch you at your deepest most hidden core and never lets go. As far as trying to pick a favorite track,it's almost impossible, because EVERY SONG IS GREAT in their own unique way. WINTER,MOTHER, and SILENT ALL THESE YEARS are 3 of the most touching ballads ever written, ethereal and gut wrenching, all tied together by amazing piano playing. CRUCIFY and ME AND A GUN are introspective and thought provoking. TEAR IN YOUR HAND is a quirky, yet very beautiful song. Suffice to say, if you like music, any music.....then you MUST OWN THIS CD,it's a must buy for anyone who has a human feeling or emotion of any kind. The best way I could summarize is just this; IF YOU LAY DOWN AND LISTEN TO THIS CD FROM START TO FINISH, I MEAN REALLY LISTEN, YOU WILL BE A DIFFERENT PERSON WHEN IT'S OVER THAN WHEN IT BEGAN.
but... i don't understand why a lot of tori fans are so obbsessed with this one oppose to her ABSOULUTLY AMAZING later works such as boys for pele, chiorgirl, to venus & back, strange little girls, & scarlets walk. i can understand why fans love under the pink so much (i do myself) because it is one of the most beautifully constructed records ever made. but little earthquakes falls kind of short is a lot of places although it's still amazing. don't think i'm bashing little earthquakes, because i'm not. its just that her later works are sooooooooooo good. ... The Best of Van Halen, Vol. 1 Average Customer Review: Audio CD (22 October, 1996) list price: $18.98 -- our price: $14.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (145)
In the mid-nineties, Van Halen finally released a "best of" compilation after nearly twenty years of being together. Vocalist Sammy Hagar had just left the masters of rock and roll, and they must have figured releasing such a compilation then would help sales. Originally it was planned to have one disc of all David Lee Roth material, and one of all Sammy Hagar material. But NO! They made the foolish choice of sticking songs from both eras onto one disc. Cramming two decades of music onto a single disc is NEVER a good idea, people. Look at all the hits this is MISSING! Look at all those missing tracks! How could they not stick to the original plan? And how could they separate Eruption from You Really Got Me? Sure, most of the hits from Roth's era are present, but THAT many omissions is simply inexcusable. I LOVE Van Halen, people, but I can't believe how much material this so-called best of deprives people of. It also seems like they couldn't decide whether or not to make this a best of or a greatest hits (the title says best of and there are a lot of non-hits from the Hagar era, but with Roth they stuck to nothing but hits.) People, if you want to get into Van Halen, get their albums, not this horrid collection. It's blasphemy to call this the best of Van Halen.

Yo hip-hoppa's, how ya'll be?? You know, just like everyone, when I turn on the radio, I wanna hear nu rock, nu metal and hip hopp!! Yet all I keep hearing is dumb old bands that have NO prupose now and have never had any purpose at any point in their careers actually!! Why is the airwaves clogged up with this junk anyway?? "Welcome To The Jungle" has a horrible riff, dumb lyrics, and is the theme song for the Cincinnati Bengals, the wrost football team ever!! "Sweet Child Ov Mine" is a cheesy toon about remembering childhood, "Mr. Brownstone" is about a cooky neighbor, and "Paradise City" goes on for about 6 minutes too long!! Enough with all the annoiyng guitar solos, their sooo annoying!! Axl also has the most whiny voice ever. Plus the bass playa sounds like he's just tapping his bottom string and not playing, listen to the intro of "It's So Easy" and ya'll see whut I be meanin'!!! For good music, look to bands like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Disturbed, KoRn, Bubba Sparxx, Eminem, Puff Daddy, Puddle Of Mudd, Seether, Saliva, Nickleback, Drowning Pool and the new talent like Clay Aiken and Smile Empty Soul :]!! Skip this WASTE of plastic!!! Peace out G'N R dudes.... First, DO NOT take this f*g seriously. He doesn't like guitar solos, and he listens to Eminem. Paradise City is the second best song on the album, and in no way is it to long. remember, most of the 2nd half is the outro solo, which, by teh way, is AMAZING. Second, if anyone's familiar with music here, you'll know that Bass is to support the band. To add bottom. Limp bIzkit and Linkin Parks bassists are 10 times worst than Duff (bassist for GNR) Plus, the intro to It's So Easy is played on the guitar you dumbass. it sounds like the bass, but it's not. Third, Mr. Brownstone is about the bands drug addictions, not some cooky neighbor.

Runnin' With the Devil - Although the solo is a little weak for Eddie's standards, it is made up for with thae awesome intro that this song holds. Pure Hard Rock. 10/10 Eruption - Eddie Van Halen is a true god. Hopefully, with all the hip hop garbage today, he won't be forgotten. Best on the album. 11/10 You Really Got Me - A milkion times better than the Kinks' original version. Great solo, great vocals. Very Cool. 10/10 Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love - cool riff, cool guitar lead. Alex Van Halen's shining moment. 9/10 I'm the One - It has two solos. Enough said. 10/10 Jamie's Cryin' - I used to hate it, but now I love it. Killer riff. 9/10 Atomic Punk - Eddie is so incredicle here. My second favorite song on the album. 10/10 Feel Your Love Tonight - Not really too fond of this song, as in I don't listen to it that often. It's still good, though. 8/10 Little Dreamer - Again, not too familiar. 8/10 Ice Cream Man - I LOVE this song! It is simply awesome! 10/10 On Fire - Michael Anthony really shines here. Good stuff. 10/10 Average - 9.5/10. If that doesn't answer your question as to whether you should buy this album, then you might as well just take a chance and buy it. Long live Van Halen. Peace everybody, and keep rocking.
Eddie Van Halen's blistering riffs are the highlight on the album, definitely, even when David Lee Roth's vocals border on annoying (like in the liast 2 songs), and he is credited for introducing the finger-tapping technique to the mainstream (though Genesis' Steve Hackett also used it in the early 1970s). His solos on "Eruption" are almost impossible to duplicate, and his solos on songs like "Ain't Talking About Love" only add to the adrenaline rush produced by the band's music. It only gets 4.5 stars because the last 2 songs are sub-par, but it's one of the most essential hard rock albums ever, and a good album to getif you're into excellent guitar playing. Also kudos to Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony for supplying an adequate rhythm section.

Hi Infidelity Average Customer Review: Audio CD (21 November, 2000) list price: $11.98 -- our price: $10.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (13)
"Keep On Loving You" was the consummate radio friendly power ballad (it was their first #1 song on the charts). It served as a precursor for their mainstream sound that was to follow them into the early half of the decade (They would top the charts one more time in 1984 with "Can't Fight This Feeling" from "Wheels Are Turning" album). In 2000, they assembled a collection of their greatest ballads. The band had been recording for about a decade when they reached the masses with this album. This album has it share of upbeat rockers. The album opens with the hard driving, "Don't Let Him Go" (#36) as well as the top five "Take It On The Run.(#5)" The track, "In Your Letter" has a retro 1950's feel to it. It also made the pop charts at the time (#14). "Tough Guys" is one of the most relentless tracks on the album. It rocks from start to finish and interestingly enough, begins with a vocal segment from the television program, "The Little Rascals." (Madonna would employ this technique in her song "White Heat," which included a spoken prologue from James Cagney in her tribute to him on her 1986 album "True Blue.") "Follow My Heart," "Out Of Season," and "Someone Tonight" also serve as competent, well-crafted tunes. The one track I tend to not enjoy as much is "Shakin' It Loose."(Don't get me wrong-it is not a bad track; it just sounds too generic. It could have been recorded by Styx or Journey or 38 Special!). Nevertheless, there is a continuity to the album and it is absolutely clear why this album graced the charts for well over one year. The album closes with the highly sentimental "I Wish You Were There," one of my favorite ballads on the collection. (This would be an excellent tune that could wind up on a soundtrack to a love story with a "coming of age" theme to it.) Digitally remastered, this 20th anniversary collection contains the original artwork (including the classic album cover), and the complete lyrics to all ten songs. "Hi Infidelity" includes a well-balanced mix of hard rocking and mid-tempto ballads. It is an absolute must in any music library whether one is a fan of classic rock or infectious, coherent, pop music.
REO Speedwagon had its glory days in the sun before going back into obscurity in the mid 1980's but for a couple of years they were Rock and Roll royalty and hearing this album (CD) it is not hard to see why. Highly recommended!

The albums's opener, "City Boy Blues," is a Crue classic and deserves an A+ all the way. The lyrics are great, Tommy's drum beats are phenomenal and the rhythms by Nikki and Mick are out of the world with some excellent lead guitar solos. The next track, the remake of "Smokin' In The Boys Room" is just outstanding and is definitly one of the Crue's best songs to date and is outstanding live. The ballad "Home Sweet Home" is the Crue's best ballad to date hands down. They have some great ballads but this one is so much more better. The opening sequence is a piano playing and Vince's vocals are so passionate and the guitar work is undoubtably fascinating. This was the Crue's hit single of the album along with "Smokin' In The Boys Room." The last two tracks, "Raise Your Hands To Rock" and "Fight For Your Rights" are great closers to a great album. The first one in an anthem just in the title itself. Any rock finatic will love this one. Then last track "Fight For Your Rights" is a great tune although I think the order of the last two songs should have been switched. This is the album of 1985. It's loud, head-banging and is pure Motley Crue. I already had two Motley Crue albums but after I bought this and listened to it once I became a Crue finatic. This album is sure to do the same to anyone who buys it. Step inside Motley Crue's "Theatre of Pain" and enjoy the show! ... Read more Asin: B00008OLIN |

1984 Average Customer Review: Audio CD (19 September, 2000) list price: $11.98 -- our price: $10.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (127)
After years of nagging, Eddie Van Halen convinced David Lee Roth that it was okay to include keyboards on an album. Not only did Roth give in, they ended up writing one of Van Halen's greatest songs, "Jump", on the very instrument that Roth loathed. There isn't a bad song on this album, although, if "I'll Wait" had been left off the album, I would have never missed it. "Panama" and "Hot For Teacher" are the type of songs that other bands spend their whole career trying to write, and often never can. Van Halen has two of these songs on one album. The pinnacle of Van Halen's career, "1984" remains one of the greatest rock albums of all time.

Fumbling Towards Ecstasy Average Customer Review: Audio CD (15 February, 1994) list price: $18.98 -- our price: $13.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (301)
It's impossible to choose favorites on a disk like this, because all of the songs are unique and beautiful in their own way. Still, certain songs are so hauntingly lovely that they deserve a special mention: "Hold On", "Elsewhere", "Ice", "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy", "Fear", and the hidden track, a piano version of "Possession", stick out in my mind as masterpieces by this wonderful artist. The last two tracks I mentioned in particular have an elusive quality of lucid, haunting beauty that strikes me to the core each time I hear them. They are truly stirring in a way that can only be experienced, not described. This is no ordinary album, and it's one that you simply can't afford to miss. If you don't own it, what the heck are you waiting for! Get it right away... no CD collection should overlook this priceless gem.
Though not the most 'up' album in thematic terms - but who cares? 'Solace' seemed to have a water theme running through most of the songs. 'Fumbling...' seems to have a theme of fear that dominates the record. Each song conveys McLachlan's emotions - and to get that across is pretty substantial, regardless of musical style. Stand-out cuts include (in no particular order): "Fear", "Elsewhere", "Possession", "Ice" and "Good Enough". "Ice Cream" seems a bit too lightweight for this disk - considering the other material. I highly recommend this disk. 'Solace', 'Surfacing' and 'Rarities, B-Sides and Other Stuff' are good purchases too.

Collective Soul Average Customer Review: Audio CD (14 March, 1995) list price: $11.98 -- our price: $10.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (89)
Need I rave about such hit tracks as the rockers "Gel" and "Smashing Young Man" or the slower tracks "December" and the absolutely stunning "The World I Know"? These tracks are all modern classics in my book. However, I also have to rave about such tracks as the rocking opener "Simple" (one listen to that when I first played this CD and I knew I was in for a special treat). Another fav is the second to last track "Bleed", a slightly above mid-tempo track with a killer bass line. Another reviewer referred to this album as progressive rock with an edge. I couldn't agree more. For sure this album stands up as one of the classics of the 1990s decade. Both commercially and musically, this album is a winner.
