Love Liberty Disco Average Customer Review: Audio CD (16 November, 1999) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $16.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Those in the pursuit of happiness may well find it in Love Liberty Disco. Following the success of Step Up to the Microphone, Newsboys are spinning out pure pop gold, glamming up their rock with a delicious party vibe. Britpop flavor melds seamlessly with crunchy guitar, soaring string arrangements, and falsetto vocals on "Break" and the roots-pop of "Everyone's Someone." The title track, punctuated by elastic bass, hand claps, and feel-good lyrics, is about the most fun thing going in Christian rock music. Vocal harmonies glide, muscular rock riffs twist against orchestral melody, and the triumphant spirit of celebration courses through each jubilant groove. Love Liberty Disco is some of the best news of 1999. --Paige La Grone ... Read more Reviews (119)

Supernatural Average Customer Review: Audio CD (22 September, 1998) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $16.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review How did DC Talk follow up their epic Jesus Freak? Very carefully, if Supernatural is any indication. Where Jesus Freak broke through musical barriers in a genre known for playing it safe, Supernatural builds on the band's momentum with a familiar blend of power pop, beautiful ballads, and power-chord rockers. The opening "It's Killing Me" lays down a riveting foundation, while Toby McKeehan has never sounded more like Seal than on the soft ballads "Consume Me" and "Godsend." But McKeehan (who coproduces) also turns it around by belting out the R&B-tinged "Wanna Be Loved." Not to be outdone, Michael Tait, Kevin Max, and McKeehan team up wonderfully on the radio-ready "Into Jesus." Once again, producer Mark Heimermann blends fascinating vocal arrangements into DC Talk's magical wall of sound. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more Reviews (367)

Genuine Average Customer Review: Audio CD (29 August, 2000) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $16.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review At the tender age of 14, Stacie Orrico is poised to become aninfluential voice of her generation; her debut release Genuine not onlyunveils a dazzling voice, but it radiates her generation's slick, urban popcool. Discovered at a Christian artist seminar in 1998, Stacie was signed toForefront Records at age 12 and has been working with industry heads, fashioninga career since. The songs on this project speak honestly and practically toStacie's peer group about issues of Christian living, and its urban flair fitsright into the mix of mainstream radio. Competing side by side with the likes ofBritney Spears, Stacie's first single, the groove-heavy "Don't Look at Me,"points to Christ as the only true example of perfection and virtue. Thisinfusion of God's truth into today's urban pop brings a refreshing perspective.--Israel Button ... Read more Reviews (87)

Promise Average Customer Review: Audio CD (23 May, 2000) list price: $9.98 -- our price: $9.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Sure, there are more inventive or intense contemporary Christian acts out there. But as acts aspiring to boy-band fame in the CCM market go, Plus One are the best. Their harmonies are really solid and intricately woven together, their convictions undoubtedly heartfelt, their arrangements uplifting. The message is as pure as the golden melodies these boys let loose. --James Conde ... Read more Reviews (115)
Fortunately they turned out to be the reverse of my fears. "The Promise" was one of the best albums of 2000, vaulting Plus One to the tops of not only the Christian charts, but the secular charts as well. In addition to a concert tour that was a huge hit, Plus One also popped up in a few TV shows during 2000 and 2001. Nearly three years later, many of the songs on this album still receive a lot of radio play on both Christian and secular stations. Although the group was put together by an outsider (i.e., someone not in the group itself) and all the songs were written by other people, the message in this album is clear: God is not just out there, but He is a big part of your life. This message is made clear by the songs "Written On My Heart," "Soul Tattoo," and "Here In My Heart." Probably the most popular of the songs on this album, at least in the Christian circles, is "God Is In This Place," a reminder that God is here, there, and everywhere. The group has recently dropped from five members to three members with the departure of Jeremy Mhire and Jason Perry. The remaining three have decided, at least for now, to stay a trio. We'll have to wait and see what the future holds for them. In the meantime, get acquainted with this group through this album.

Best Ones Average Customer Review: Audio CD (23 March, 1999) list price: $17.98 -- our price: $17.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (13)
My personal favorites in the cd are:Where There is Faith, Measure of a Man, Lay It All on the Line, Couldn't We Stand, and For Future Generations.Regardless of what your personal favorites are, the cd is highly recommended! Buy and enjoy!
Even the casual listener to Christian radio during the 90's will recognize some of the classics collected here."Basics of Life," "Where There is Faith," "Why?," and "For Future Generations" are just some highlights of this CD stuffed full of great songs that will be familiar to everyone. Like any best of project, loyal fans (like me) will have some argument with the song selection. My biggest complaint here is that the song selection leans toward the newer recordings, with 9 of the 14 from their last three CD's.This leaves little room for their early hits."Basics of Life" is only represented by the title song, but there were lots of great songs on it.And how could they leave out "Man You Would Write About" from their second CD?Still, I do find myself listening to this CD more then enough times to justify the money I spent on it. 4 Him's balance of solid lyrics with great harmony earned them a legion of well deserved fans.Anyone interested in their music will love this CD, a collection of one of Christian music's classic acts.

Steven Curtis Chapman: Greatest Hits Average Customer Review: Audio CD (21 October, 1997) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $13.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review In 10 years, Steven Curtis Chapman has charted 26 No. 1 hits, three Grammy Awards, and 32 Dove Awards (Christian music's equivalent of the Grammys). This release offers some of Chapman's best work in addition to two newer singles, "Not Home Yet" and "I Am Found in You," and rerecordings of "Lord of the Dance" and "The Walk," from the brilliant Signs of Life release. The latter two, labeled "Abbey Road versions," sound live, with soulful harmonica and additional guitar work not heard on the originals. Chapman's catalog of hits traces a developing and masterful artist who gains confidence and quality with each new release. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more Reviews (32)

WOW 2001 Average Customer Review: Audio CD (31 October, 2000) list price: $21.98 -- our price: $21.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The folks at Sparrow Records give us the most diverse collection yet in this increasingly popular Wow series. The 30-plus tracks (there are three bonus tracks) testify that contemporary Christian music (CCM) in the first year of the new millennium was worthy. Mainstream acts like Steven Curtis Chapman ("Dive"), Michael W. Smith ("This Is Your Time"), and DC Talk("Red Letters") are represented, but so are developing singer-songwriters like Nichole Nordeman ("Every Season"), Ginny Owens ("Free"), and Jennifer Knapp ("Into You"). The praise-and-worship contingent is also covered with Passion's live version of "America," Third Day's "King of Glory," and Delirious's "God You Are My God." You've even got an old-time gospel testimonial in CeCe Winans's moving "Alabaster Box." P.O.D.'s delightful "Set Your Eyes to Zion" and Avalon's pop masterpiece "Always Have, Always Will" never made it to the top of mainstream CCM radio but get their rightful listing on Wow 2001, truly a wonderful collection of music and a reason to remain hopeful for the future of CCM. --Michael Lyttle ... Wow 1999: The Year's 30 Top Christian Artists & Songs Average Customer Review: Audio CD (20 October, 1998) list price: $19.98 -- our price: $19.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The newest in the Wow series of contemporary Christian music is asslick-sounding and solid as its successful predecessors. The two-disc set begins with asolid alterna-anthem (DC Talk'splaintively overwrought but super-catchy "Into Jesus") and ends with a kiss (Fernando Ortega's inspiring,Nashville-tinged "Lord of the Eternity"). The compilation's 33 tracks really do run thegamut: the polished, pure pop ofAvalon andPoint of Grace; Christian swing music; the atmospheric, spiritual sounds of MaireBrennan and JaciVelasquez; the spirited belting of rockerJennifer Knapp; a dance-pop act from the U.K.; the veteranconfessional singer-songwriter folk ofAmy Grant; Christian ska; and the late Rich Mullins's moving, visionarygospel-folk. CCM stalwarts and newcomers alike will be pleased by this release. --Mike McGonigal ... Read more Reviews (94)
However, the album is terrific regardless. It features one song that I am surprised didn't get more airplay "Strollin' on the Water".A very unique sound, that really resonates the longing to take those leaps of faith with Christ. To be fearless for God. ... Read more Asin: B00000DCEO |

WOW Gold Average Customer Review: Audio CD (20 June, 2000) list price: $21.98 -- our price: $19.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Aptly titled Gold, this CD features the crème de la crème of the songs that have shaped the face of Christian music since the 1970s. The compilation pulls together many of the original recordings that spent time in the spotlight, providing a snapshot of what is imbedded within the hearts and minds of any seasoned Christian-music fan. Featuring artists from all genres, Gold presents a perfect cross section of the industry's most respected talent. With a flavor to satisfy every appetite, acoustic rock, gospel, heavy metal, worship, vocal, and contemporary sounds fashion a wild ride that leaves no moment mundane. Nowhere else would Stryper's "To Hell with the Devil" and Twila Paris's "He Is Exalted" share time on the same project. Wow! This is a true wonder indeed, bringing nostalgic memories and renewed inspiration to any Christian-music enthusiast. --Israel Button ... Read more Reviews (12)
From Larry Norman's original 1972 Christian rock rallying cry "Why Should The Devil Have All The Good Music?" to Dallas Holm & Praise's two-year chart topping song "Rise Again" to the absolutely delicious 1997 gospel-rock (there is no other way to classify this song) collaboration song "Stomp" by God's Property and Kirk Franklin, just about every CCM style out there is represented by the best of the best here. In the mood for some good, old nostalgia? You're covered here with 1974's "Easter Song" by 2nd Chapter of Acts, and 1985's "Undivided" by First Call, as well as Keith Green's "You Put This Love In My Heart" and Russ Taft's first number one hit "We Will Stand." There are many, many more songs on this compilation worth reliving. From the older "Phil Keaggy" to the newer "dc Talk," there is something for everyone. Make sure your collection contains these best of the best.
This is the album that answered my questions.WOW!Maybe that's why they entitled these collections that. How ecclectic the collection of songs it on this 2-CD set. It's wonderful! Jars of Clay opens the collection with "Flood" which received much airplay on secular stations. As the songs continue, the pop tunes really makes it easy to transition into Christian music.Music with a message!Great songs on every track! Highlights: Awesome God, For the Sake of the Call, Thy Word, He is Exalted, Friends, Easter Song, Rise Again, Praise the Lord, My Tribute, Thank You.So many more great songs on this set. If you want to ease a friend into Christian music, this is the CD for him/her.Maybe you have been curious.Take it from me, buy it.I did and listen to it all the time.

Lay It Down Average Customer Review: Audio CD (29 February, 2000) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $14.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Wow. Twenty-six-year-old Jennifer Knapp has done far more than rest on her laurels for her much-anticipated follow-up to 1998's Kansas--the record is a subtle, yet stellar, leap forward. The songs have pop hooks that stick in your brain for hours; the music is tightly woven and expert, yet rarely too slick. Expertly produced by pal Toby McKeehan, layers of complimentary, warm sound surround Knapp's folk-bluesy, expressive voice like the foam atop a perfect latte. The lyrics are introspective and spiritual but they have this real-life quality to them, and that is her true gift. One has to struggle not to identify with Knapp when she sings, on "A Little More," of the struggle to live a Christian life: "A little more than I can give / A little more than I deserve / Unearth this holiness I can't earn." The only justifiable quibble is that, at 36 minutes, Lay It Down is way too short. --Mike McGonigal ... Read more Reviews (84)

Pray Average Customer Review: Audio CD (20 October, 1998) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $16.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review There's a beauty to the rawness of Rebecca St. James. While her contemporaries in the Christian market ply their formulaic-sounding wares, St. James continues to go where few artists, if any, have gone before. On Pray, her fourth album, the young Australian singer meshes Euro-industrial with charismatic Christian for a mind-bending (if not soul-bending) experience. Producer Tedd T. offers the right blend of programming, melodic rock, and St. James's powerful vocals on the opening title track as well as the brilliant "Come Quickly Lord" and "Peace." While the covers of Rich Mullins's "Hold Me Jesus" and Keith Green's "Lord You're Beautiful" provide new treatments to old standards, it is the numbers penned by St. James and Tedd T. that stand out. Don't miss the haunting final number, "Omega," or the mystery track beyond. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more Reviews (73)
Not only did she play a long and brilliant set, there were many times when she'd take time-outs for chats with the audience and made it a really enjoyable experience. She was signing autographs after the show and not having any Rebecca merchandise myself, bought Pray and got her to sign it. She was friendly and endearing and I really enjoyed meeting her. Years after purchasing Pray (and not having listened to it in a while), my respect and general like for Rebecca and her music are still there entirely, if not more. It's one of those albums that you still ENJOY after years passing. Rebecca has an interesting way of incorporating worship with catchy lyrics and her diverse euro-pop sound. Her voice is strong and inviting and always leaves the ears wanting more and the rare thing is, you feel that way after each song. I always feel that everything with turn out okay in the end after I'm finished listening to Pray and it's an album that really makes me feel hopeful about the future. It's hard to inspire people that much through music and Rebecca is someone that definitely inspires through Pray and I'm sure she will through whatever else she has done or will do. It's an album that at least deserves a listen to whether you're a religious person or not, because her lyrics still inspire the non-believers.

Crystal Clear Average Customer Review: Audio CD (05 September, 2000) list price: $17.98 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Jaci Velasquez already has traveled a road decorated with Dove awards,record-breaking sales, and millions of fans. This Mystery Average Customer Review: Audio CD (23 May, 2000) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $13.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Don't look for the patented sophomore slump on This Mystery, Nichole Nordeman's second studio release, because the bright young songwriter builds on the momentum she established with her pleasing 1998 debut, Wide Eyed. Mystery contains a basketful of midtempo, self-reflective songs, painting the portrait of a young artist struggling with faith. At times the lines of both are blurred, and Nordeman deals with this frankly in tunes such as "Fool for You" and the title track. The moving, contemplative "Small Enough" is one of the release's finest songwriting moments, while the uptempo "Home" also shines brightly. Like her Heaven & Earth colleagues Michelle Tumes and Jennifer Knapp, Nordeman is part of a growing group of female songwriters in contemporary Christian music who have a lot to say and know just how to say it. --Michael Lyttle ...
