candycoatedwaterdrops Average Customer Review: Audio CD (13 April, 1999) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $14.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review There shall be no sophomore slump here. Plumb's Candycoatedwaterdrops is one of the better modern-rock outings in the world of contemporary Christian music. As with their self-titled debut in 1997, Plumb embrace programming and loops on their second recording. However, this time singer-songwriter Tiffany Arbuckle steps up in the mix and takes center stage, making the band's sound all too human. "Late Great Planet Earth," "Here with Me," and "Solace" testify that Arbuckle and the band can certainly shake the walls. Songs like "Phobic" offer a counterpoint with a dreamy and lush backdrop. Producer Matt Bronleewe is another reason why Candycoatedwaterdrops stands tall, as he balances technology with pop sensibilities ("God-Shaped Hole" and "Worlds Collide: A Fairy Tale"), not to mention contributions from the London Symphony Orchestra. Well written, well produced, this one's a keeper. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more Reviews (99)

I remember hearing the work in progress version of Stranded (the first single off this disc) and I remember thinking "THIS is Plumb?!" Even though I was a little shocked, I DID fall in love with that song. So, I went to the record store, and listened to the disc. I was pleased with the opening song, "Late Great Planet Earth," because it somewhat resembled the Plumb of old. However, upon venturing further into the depths of these waterdrops, I found so much to like about it. My favorite song would have to be Damaged. It's a song about abuse, and was featured in the movie Brokedown Palace. It's very techno/electronica sounding, but without the heavy pulsating beats. I've also found that it's Ms. Arbuckle's favorite song to perform! And one more thing about her songs...the cd ends with a country dittie called Candycoatedwaterdrops (the album's namesake) and even though I absolutely despise country, Plumb makes it sound so wonderful. It's the kind of song that makes you linger between the state of total conciousness and sleep. It's like that moment, right before you drift away to dreamland. I would say that Plumb's debut comes off sounding a little bit like Garbage meets Suzanne Vega. (Her voice DOES sound a bit like Suzanne Vega) This one resembles a Suzanne Vega meets Dido combintation...and either way, she wins. Truly an amazing disc...
10. Drugstore Jesus - I like the chorus part of this song as well; it was nice. Asin: B00000IFVH |

Offerings: A Worship Album Average Customer Review: Audio CD (11 July, 2000) list price: $17.98 -- our price: $13.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review In the afterglow of capturing a Dove award for "Rock album of the year" with their southern-rock grinder Time, Third Day has now stepped in line with the worship movement and released Offerings: A Worship Album. Interspersed among five new songs, this album contains several live concert tracks, including the favorite "Your Love, Oh Lord."Even though the new songs demonstrate Third Day's superior creativity and talent, the live tracks are the forte of this project. The undulating dynamics exhibit the band's unity as they work together to create a singular response to the Savior. As well, some of the tracks incorporate the sound of the worshiping audience, adding a congregational feel to the album. The lyrical content is similar to that of songs from a typical Sunday morning service. But these traditional expressions of faith are given new life by the resonating fervor of Mac Powell's lead vocal style. Third Day is known for being uncompromisingly God-centered with their music. This project uncovers that quality to its most extreme degree. --Israel Button ... Read more Reviews (96)

Transform Average Customer Review: Audio CD (24 October, 2000) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $16.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Let's start with the adjectives: energetic, powerful, creative, refreshing, excellent. That pretty much captures the essence of "Transform," thelatest and--yes--greatest from Rebecca St. James, who never ceases to amaze. With more songwriting input than ever before, this blessed young Aussie gatherssounds from today's pop world and meshes them together oh-so-well. It would havebeen easy for RSJ to build on the groove that was established with her previousGrammy-winning release,Pray, but she's never oneto sit still. And she playfully reminds us, in the Euro-disco sounding "Reborn,"singing, "if you see a change in me and wonder." The riveting rocker "All AroundMe" takes a page or two from the Garbage catalog, yet RSJ gives enough mojo tomake it her own. The powerfully majestic "Stand" is another tour de force forRSJ, who showcases her mighty vocal talents in this pop masterpiece. ProducersMatt Bronlewee and Dan Huff also should be commended for blending a lot ofenergy into a tightly focused and great-sounding release. --MichaelLyttle ... Read more Reviews (69)

Mark Schultz Average Customer Review: Audio CD (28 March, 2000) list price: $16.98 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Good music comes from the heart, and Mark Schultz's debut album has plenty of thatt. His original attempts to jump-start a musical career by moving to Nashville were to no avail, so instead he took a position as youth pastor in a local church. Inspired by his newfound ministry, he began writing songs about experiences he had with his youth group. A cloud of eager fans soon surrounded him. Only then did he receive the industry attention he had once sought out. Drawing on the producing talent of Monroe Jones, Schultz's musical journey has embarked on a new path. This self-titled project combines energized showmanship and heart-wrenching ballads. His voice is like the white-water crest of a wave. Its unique intensity is the force that leads the music onward. As well, his buoyant piano style brings a welcome flavor to the straight-up pop sound of this album. Drum loops, layered vocals, and soaring guitars add to the intrigue. His first single, "I Am the Way," was written as a theme song to kick off a new year of youth meetings. No doubt that year opened with a bang. --Israel Button ... Read more Reviews (61)
It was payday that day, and it's always been my treat to myself to buy a new Christian CD. Tired of buying follow-up albums of my favourite gospel singers, I suddenly thought of trying CDs of new artists. While browsing at the store racks, I finally saw Mark's CD. Good thing I was a regular ... visitor...that Mark's background was not new to me. Good previews convinced me to buy a copy...and boy...his album is cool! At first you would compare his songs with Steve Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith a bit similar but when you get used to it...you'll discover a different style that's uniquely Mark Schultz. He composed all the songs...inspired by his different and wonderful experiences during some of his missions. I can say, he's a real observant person. He can't ignore the beauty of God's presence around him. Among his eleven (11) songs, the following nine (9) songs are my favourites (in order): 1st "Fall In Love Again" - a beautiful, hopeful love song...I like how the duet and BGVs blend in...dudu da yeah! 2nd "When You Come Home" - a moving song about a mother's love to her child...a real tear-jerker. 3rd "When You Give" - let's you praise and dance all the way. 4th "I Am The Way" - very nice and cool...a good opening song; 5th "I Saw The Light" - I enjoy this song a lot...great beat; 6th "He's My Son" - A touching song about healing of a dying son. This is a real account of Mark's friend. 7th "Cloud Of Witnesses" - awesome message...about older people as guardians of youth today; 8th "Let's Go" - great piano! Message circles on decisions. 9th "Remember Me" - nice melody and duet with Ginny. In general, all songs are so moving...so touching. Mark shows his versatility on changing styles like from slow to upbeat songs...from worship to praise songs. Not bad for a debut album. To Mark...continue exploring and sharing God's love through your music. * Check the criteria on how I decide to select stars for albums at my profile. I hope my review helps you a lot. Thanks.

Plumb Average Customer Review: Audio CD (29 July, 1997) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $16.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (27)
As for this remarkable debut, I remember walking into the music store, and the guy who worked there said to me, "Hey! we just got a shipment of new cds...check this one out! It sounds a little like Garbage." (That's the BAND Garbage...) Anyways, I listened to it, and at first, I HATED it. Probably because I was expecting, well, Shirley Manson-esque vocals, with a techno/electronica flair. But after I listened to the entire cd, I ended up buying it. Plumb is not Garbage. such a comparison would be unfair. They're both genius in their own right. Plumb's debut comes off somewhat aggressive, but it's a UNIQUE aggressive. I don't think I've ever heard such power in such meek sounding vocals. While I DO love this debut from Plumb, there are a couple songs that seem...unpolished. For example, The Cure. In my own personal opinion, it's repetitive. This release is marked by trademark drum loops...and it's the same loop in like four songs. The Cure is also somewhat annoying. Also, Pennyless seems to drone on, never really allowing the listener's ear to quite adjust. But that's just me. Personally, I think Plumb does a kick butt job being aggressive. I think her best songs are Sobering, Concrete, Unforgivable, and Crazy. She's inspired me so much that's it's ubelievable. There you have it. My little rant on how great Plumbs debut is. Go out and get it!

Kirk Franklin Presents 1NC Average Customer Review: Audio CD (15 August, 2000) list price: $17.98 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Although KirkFranklin's career already has shaped the faces of gospel, R&B, andcontemporary Christian music irreversibly, his relentless drive to bring gloryto God has not slowed. Similar to 1998's monumental Nu Nation Project, 1NC(One Nation Crew) is an extraordinary design of unity and praise. Comprising10 culturally diverse vocalists, 1NC both bridges gaps and breaksboundaries by fusing South African and Latin American sounds with R&B,gospel, praise, and pop influences. With each song a new adventure, this projecttakes the musical scenic route, visiting heated urban grooves and intimate vocalshowstoppers. While all but one of the 13 tracks were written by Franklinhimself, the fervor and honesty displayed by the vocalists unquestionablydemonstrates ownership in heart and soul. Including spoken-word interludesbetween some of the cuts, the Christ-centered vision of 1NC visitsspiritual and social issues with sincerity and jubilation. --IsraelButton ... Read more Reviews (26)
1NC is a complete package that includes many styles of worship, praise and celebration. And I LOVE the way the cd ends... with an altar call (this is the ultimate goal of ALL gospel music any- way! ). I like to groove; so my favorite selections are: Movin' On, Unconditional, Nobody, and Could've Been Me. The best jam on this CD is "Hands Up" (the Devil tried to run up on me and got his neck broke)! What a powerful reminder of what all believers can do in Christ through the Holy Spirit! So when I make my driving and excersize "mix" tape, I will be adding those songs to "Revolution", "Lovely Day", "Praise Joint", "If You've Been Delivered", "My Desire", "Stomp", "Whatcha Lookin' For", and "Speak to Me". He deals with the issues that "really" matter to all of us,when we are all alone, late at night... (we've all been there). We are reminded of His faithfulness to us no matter what we are faced with. I hope this continues in gospel music, I hope to see 1NC in concert sometime later this year or early next year. Maybe this time a Grammy will be realized. A Dove award is practically assured. But no matter what, you will be blessed by this cd and I highly recommend this recording to all who love gospel music, who love to groove and who enjoy being encouraged in these often troubled times that we live in. A five star rating is a "no brainer" here!
And just one word to those who practically h8 Kirk for his change in his music. a) There is nothing wrong with R+B or rap or rock or hardcore or ska or whatever type of music you can think of, just as long as the Lord is being lifted up and praised above all. Not all Christian music MUST be strictly praise and worship. A lot of people have been calling Kirk's music "worldly music". Well, personally, I LIKE worldly MUSIC. Just not the lyrics. A lot of people have been led away from Christian music because some poeple (no one in particular) tell them that the majority of Christian is just praise and worship, when it's not (either because those people don't know about the other music (which I can easily see), or they don't approve of the other types of music). Look at my other reviews and you'll see a small window showing a small part of a much bigger worl in Christian music. b) Kirk praises no one but God. I don't know where people can get off saying that he's become self-obsessed and all about his own personal gain as opposed to spreading God's kingdom. c) one other thing, slightly related to point "a". A lot of people trapped in the secular world of music have been either saved or have opened their minds to Christian music through Kirk Franklin which have created some controversy among believers saying that he's become a secular artist since his music is more appealing to secular audiences. This is not true. Kirk could simply be trying to reach out to secular listeners more than Christian, which is a GOOD thing. Really, those people in the secular world need to hear this more than those already with a ground and strong faith in Christ. So, I say, way to go Kirk. Continue to spread the word to those who have little or no knowledge of it. God Bless.

Let My Words Be Few Average Customer Review: Audio CD (03 July, 2001) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $13.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Celebrating 10 years together, Phillips, Craig, and Dean jointhe rapidly increasing numbers of contemporary Christian artists whoare releasing praise-and-worship collections. While there are a coupleof self-penned tunes here--including Dan Dean's humble and reverent"Pour My Love on You"--the trio pulls material mostly from today's toppraise-and-worship writers like Matt Redman and Paul Baloche. Thegroup's classic three-part harmonies soar on the choruses of "Come, NowIs the Time to Worship" and Baloche's "Open the Eyes of My Heart."You'll also enjoy the pulsating rhythms of "Let Everything That HasBreath," punctuated by a nifty horn section. Otherwise, listeners willfind the trio offering standard and steady readings of worshipfuldevotions done in the quality style so typical of Phillips, Craig, andDean. --Michael Lyttle ... On the well known side, this CD includes modern worship classics "Heart of Worship," "Open the Eyes of My Heart," and "You are my King." These songs get the full treatment with wonderful harmonies. The guys get into the writing act on such songs as "Pour My Love On You," "How Great You Are," (a personal favorite from the disc) and "Your Grace Still Amazes Me." It's hard to listen to this CD and not have your focus shifted fully to God. Every time I stick it in, I find myself praising God for all He has done for us. While a few of the songs stand out above the others, I love every song in this collection. If you're looking for a great praise and worship CD, you'll be hard pressed to find something better then this.
