Along the Road Average Customer Review: Audio CD (20 September, 1994) list price: $11.98 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (15)
I know that Susan Ashton, Christine Dente and Point of Grace also grouped together to bring out the wonderful album "Girls of Grace"... I am not at home at the moment as I am in the States taking care of my grandsons for their Summer vacations, so I cannot refer to it to see if Margaret Becker was also on this album. However, I truly wish that they would get together again and make another album.. They are just the best!! ... Read more Asin: B000005KWQ |

Worship Average Customer Review: Audio CD (11 September, 2001) list price: $17.98 -- our price: $13.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review An impressive thread of praise and worship runs through the career of Michael W. Smith. After all, he's penned two of today's finest modern praise songs ("Great Is the Lord" and "Agnus Dei"), and he was the creative genius behind Exodus, a brilliant collection of worship material. Yet that same artistic spirit seems sadly lacking on Worship, Smith's first solely praise and worship release. All parts are assembled, with Smith on vocals and keyboards, and an all-star choir of Amy Grant, Phillips, Craig & Dean, Chris Rice, Cindy Morgan, and others backing him on this live release. But outside of a few selected tracks ("Let It Rain" and "Draw Me Close"), Worship falls flat. Smith's decision to cover the day's most popular praise songs and not focus on new material of his own weakens the record's impact. In fact, "Purified," one of two studio tracks on the release, was cowritten by Smith and his wife, and it's the CD's brightest moment. While Worship is not a forgettable release, it is, unfortunately, predictable. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more Reviews (119)
Live recordings usually turn me off because there is an abundance of background noise, but that was not the case with this album. There was no problem hearing the music or the vocals. Smith makes a few comments between songs and there are times when the audience's cheers can be heard, but they are at the appropriate level so as to add to the music and not detract form it. Why 5 stars?:
The song line-up is a good one. Newer tracks like "The Heart Of Worship" and "Open the Eyes of My Heart" are sung right along side classic songs like "Awesome God" and "More Love, More Power." Smith has led worship at his church for years, and that experience shines through here as he proves to be most adept at taking the spotlight off of himself (and the "all-star" cast in the choir) and directing it towards the One who was being sung to. The album flows well and though it's not really a "modern" worship album (musically it is more traditional) it's got all the passion and genuine spirit associated with the modern worship movement. The studio tracks included as a bonus are also superb (and Smith writes with his wife, Debbie, on "Purified," for the first time in years), and sit well along side previous Smith classics like "Agnus Dei" and "Great Is the Lord." If you're a fan of Michael's you're going to pick this up automatically. Even if you're not, you should give it a listen. It doesn't rock and there's nothing particularly innovative here, but it's a real worship experience that brings you into the presence of God, and that's what it's really all about. WORSHIP is definitely one of the best of a growing number of worship album options. FIVE STARS.

Declaration Average Customer Review: Audio CD (25 September, 2001) list price: $17.98 -- our price: $13.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review With soaring strings and dramatic choruses and hooks, Steven Curtis Chapman knows how to write the Big Pop Song. He appears to have nearly perfected the art on Declaration, his most upbeat and polished effort to date. For example, songs like "Magnificent Obsession" and "God Is God" aren't just pop songs but sweeping mini-epics of faith that are carried along by Chapman's passionate vocals and crashing crescendos. He's also adept at sprinkling modern references to freshen his hard-rock motif, such as the lyrical tip of the hat to news events in 2000 on the opener, "Live Out Loud," and the Nintendo Game Boy sound effects on "See the Glory." Of course, Chapman has long known how to massage those melancholy hearts with such balladry as "Carry You to Jesus" and "Savior." Clearly, Declaration raises a bar that was already beyond reach for most of his contemporaries. Chapman is a brilliant songwriter with a finger on the pulse of what today's Christian music fans want to hear.--Michael Lyttle ... Read more Reviews (70)
DISC ONE: DECLARATION DISC TWO: BONUS DVD VIDEO
The song 'When Love Takes You In' was written by him for his adopted Korean daughter. There is just so much one could say about every one of these songs and the reason he wrote them and why they are special. "God is God" is so breath taking and 'God Follower' and 'Magnificent Obsession' are awesome. 'I will carry you to Jesus' brings tears to my eyes everytime I listen to it. Then there is SCCs 'Declaration of Independence'.. what a great song.... what great lyrics! and how wonderfully it is sung. I heard that SCC actually damaged his vocal chords during the production of this album and that is why there was no SCC release in 2002 and we had to wait an extra year for his next album 'All About Love'. I trust that Stephen Curtis Chapman will remain as young as he sounds because I look forward to every new release that comes out. BLESS YOU STEPHEN. ... Read more Asin: B00005OAH3 |

Music of Christmas Average Customer Review: Audio CD (26 September, 1995) list price: $9.99 -- our price: $9.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (20)
This CD consists mostly of new songs or new arrangements of classics. For example, "Angels We Have Heard on High" becomes a song of rejoicing, while "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" becomes a desperate cry for the Messiah with out changing one word of the classic carols. Among the new songs, "Our God is With Us" and "This Baby" are personal favorites. The first is a powerful anthem reminding us that Emmanuel is just as current a name for God today as it was at Jesus' birth. The second is a song of wonder at the incarnation of Jesus. This album doesn't feel "Christmassy" right from the start because Mr. Chapman doesn't change his usual style. Acoustic guitar is still a main feature. In fact, it's the star of an amazing rendition of "Carol of the Bells." But the songs are amazing and made it an instant favorite. Listening to it now always makes it feel like Christmas. If you're looking for good Christmas music that will focus your eyes on Jesus, this is the CD for you.
EVERYONE who loves music should own this album and celebrate. ... Read more Asin: B000000V4A |

God Average Customer Review: Audio CD (25 June, 1996) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $16.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Few have burst onto the Christian music scene with such raw honesty and edgy appeal as Rebecca St. James. With 1996's God, this young Australian went from unknown to spokesperson for a generation. The title track, along with the irresistible "Me Without You" and "Go and Sin No More," were all CCM No. 1 hits. And rightfully so! The title track uniquely alternates a pastoral melody with acoustic guitar and flute while St. James belts out the chorus with urgency and desire. Musically, the rest features moody atmospherics, hook-laden guitar riffs, and St. James's nontraditional yet strong vocals. An artist worth paying attention to, St. James could easily take her place among the Lilith Fair crowd with little apology for her message. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more Reviews (44)
Ms. St. James drew me in with the first song, "God" that is powerful and strong. But it's really the prayer-like quality of the song of "Hold Me Jesus" that stays with me long after the CD has been turned off--either because I've listened to it all or because I've had to get out of the car to do such things as buy groceries, etc. This song is such a powerful witness and is prayer-like in its simple beauty. Rebecca's voice on that track and all the others is wonderful and you can really hear an artist testing herself with not only her range but also the material she chooses to sing on the CD. There are some fun songs on here such as the catchy "You Then Me" but none is as powerful as "Hold Me Jesus." If you're looking for a powerful witness of the awesome love of God and his son, Jesus Christ, look no further than this CD. If you're like me, after listening to it a few times you'll be back, yearning for more of this young artist's powerful music and witness.

Lead Me On Average Customer Review: Audio CD (25 October, 1990) list price: $9.98 -- our price: $9.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (39)
After tasting secular pop sucess with her album 'Unguarded', Amy then proceeded to produce her finest effort to date, and probably the best album she will ever record. The pop flash of 'Heart In Motion' is missing here. The narcissistic depression of 'Behind The Eyes' is missing also. This is the mature expression of a Christian woman immersed both in the world and in Christ. Honest lyrics, great music and Amys best vocals make this CD stand out from the masses. There is a reason that this CD is on many 'deserted island' CD lists, my own included.
A more different sound, it may take listeners some time to get used to this CD but after several listening sessions, this album shines as one of Amy's best albums for its mature lyrics and complicated arrangements. Some of my favorites: "1974", "Lead Me On", "Saved By Love", "Faithless Heart" (one of the most beautiful songs ever written), "All Right" and "Say Once More". Let's talk about "Say Once More." This is not the same song that is on "Never Alone", an earlier album. This is a completely different song. This has become one of my most favorite songs. What a beautiful song! I think this song is the one that is the clincher for all buyers! The overlaying vocals at the end of the song really bring me to a deeper spiritual place. I have to be careful when I drive when I listen to this song in the car.
What was not expected was the follow up album, released a couple of years later. With great anticipation I purchased the CD, drove home and slammed into the Panasonic. What greeted me was a dry, unhappy-sounding album... I was profoundly dissapointed and considered returning it to the store for credit (maybe for A-Ha's latest?). But before I did that, I gave it one more spin. Then another, and another. Soon it was clear that I had come to "Lead Me On" with all of the wrong expectations. Amy had actually grown, and was showing us her darker, human side, as it were (her lyrics almost insinuated she was a sinner!). Soon the honesty of the album soaked in, and I was transfixed. The track that really hit me was "Lead Me On," and to this day I cannot play that song without a tear forming. But that is just one sublime moment from this amazing set... it just gets better and better, from the soaring, airy intro track to the sizzling electric fiddle solo to the ethereal ending vocal. Amy has never reached the depth of personal revelation quite as effectively as she did with "Lead Me On." However, moments of the new "Simple Things" are every bit as phenomenal, like the track "Out in the Open." She definitely still has the skills, but "Lead Me On" was the first and best showcase of her deep and abiding talents in the context of a tested faith. I give it an A+. ... Supernatural Average Customer Review: Audio CD (22 September, 1998) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $13.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review How did DC Talk follow up their epic Jesus Freak? Very carefully, if Supernatural is any indication. Where Jesus Freak broke through musical barriers in a genre known for playing it safe, Supernatural builds on the band's momentum with a familiar blend of power pop, beautiful ballads, and power-chord rockers. The opening "It's Killing Me" lays down a riveting foundation, while Toby McKeehan has never sounded more like Seal than on the soft ballads "Consume Me" and "Godsend." But McKeehan (who coproduces) also turns it around by belting out the R&B-tinged "Wanna Be Loved." Not to be outdone, Michael Tait, Kevin Max, and McKeehan team up wonderfully on the radio-ready "Into Jesus." Once again, producer Mark Heimermann blends fascinating vocal arrangements into DC Talk's magical wall of sound. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more Reviews (360)
1. Supernatural Intro - a three-word song that sets the stage for the real songs 2. It's Killin' Me 4. You Consume Me 5. My Friend (So Long) - Another personal favorite 6. Fearless 7. Godsent 8. Wanna Be Loved 9. Truth 10. Since I Met You 11. Into Jesus 12. Supernatural - The main song on the album, an awesome song that contains a message about supernatural events. 13. Red Letters 14. There is a Treason at Sea Although I have pointed out some of my favorites, I actually love all the songs. There actually is not a song that is better than or worse than another. This album is definitely worth your money, and I can reccomend this CD wholeheartedly. I can't wait to buy every single album from dc Talk!

Jesus Freak Average Customer Review: Audio CD (21 November, 1995) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $13.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Jesus Freak, like the 1970s phrase that it's culled from, is an oddity. Who could have ever imagined such a wonderful blend of grunge rock, rap, melodic pop, and funk? "So Help Me God" sets the tone with a wicked guitar riff that draws boundaries for the trio's magic harmonies. "What If I Stumble?" and the vastly underrated "Between You and Me" allow Michael Tait to showcase his silky smooth vocals, while "Jesus Freak" and "Mind's Eye" prove the band can change speeds and rock as hard as anyone. For good measure, they even improve upon Charlie Peacock's "In the Light." One of the best Christian CDs of the '90s. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more Reviews (228)
As mentioned before the harmonies are awesome. Their vocals compliment each other wonderfully and are truly a perfect blend. As for those critical of this group or this recording I am in total amazement. How anyone could find fault in such a gripping faith filled praise of God is beyond my comprehension. All i can say to those close minded critics....listen to the first 14 seconds of "What If I Stumble"...enough said!
Their unique blend of R&B vocals with rhythm and rap all fused together with driving electric guitars is unparralleled in the entire music world. Their lyrics are a whole other story. They tapped into loads of raw emotion, when they analyzed and brought into light all the fears and self doubt that everyone goes through. Especially in high school. Captivating an entire generation of frustrated, scared, timid boys and girls and motivating them into on fire Christians totally sold out for Jesus. If you have heard the album and are not a Christian, all you can do is sit back and wonder in amazement. Who is this Jesus, really? Why not try then and find out who he says that he is in his written word in the Gospels in the Bible? God is standing at the door of your heart and knocking. If you will let him in, he will totally

A Maze of Grace Average Customer Review: Audio CD (13 January, 1998) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $16.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review At first glimpse, Avalon may seem like one more nice-boy-nice-girl quartet who looks angelic and sings with a similar sanctity. And hey, that's what they are. But what makes A Maze of Grace different is the underlying streetwise pop edge that pervades this 1997 release, which yielded three top contemporary Christian music singles. The opening "Testify to Love" is a great track that features solid harmonies, trademark guitar power chords, and a rock-solid backbeat. "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" contains an irresistible urgency, as does "Speed of Light," yet the group can slow it down masterfully, as with the ballad "Adonai." Comparisons to First Call are merited here and much credit should go to producer Charlie Peacock, who makes Avalon's second release something more than the usual fare. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more Reviews (68)
After bouncing joyfully through the danceable first four tracks ("Testify to Love," "A World Away," "A Maze of Grace," and "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"), it almost seems to be a bummer when "Adonai" starts. However, "Adonai" may prove to be the most powerful song on the CD. There is a reason why it was one of the top inspirational songs of 1998. The next five songs consist of two more ballads ("Reason Enough" and "Dreams I Dream for You") and three faster songs ("Speed of Light," "The Move," "Forgive + Forget"). With all of these songs clocking in close to the four-minute range, this CD paces through quickly. Once again, the showcasing of powerful vocals, good song selection, and slick production make this a stand-out pop CD in any genre. Avalon further endears themselves to our hearts and to our ears.
Enjoy!!! -Dana =)
I was incredible blessed by all the songs on this album. Their upbeat music and the harmony of their voices are great. If I must choose a favourite then it would definitely be "Adonai". I have heard this song sung by Michael Card and it has always been a great blessing to me to worship our 'Adonai'. 'Testify to Love' and 'A Maze of Grace' are amazing as well and the beat to these songs are good enough to dance to. It is difficult to comment on every song because each one has a beauty of it's own and is uplifting to listen to. This album has convinced me that I need to add more of their albums to my Christian music collection. This is a must for all collectors of good Christian music!! ... Read more Asin: B000000V63 |

Listen Average Customer Review: Audio CD (19 November, 1996) list price: $15.98 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Lauded earlier in her career with numerous Dove awards, Cindy Morgan's Listen, her fourth release, demonstrates a songwriting maturity worthy of recognition above and beyond any chart success. This 1996 effort is full of songs that aren't aimed at being chart toppers. Certainly "They Say It's Love" and the opening "The Master's Hand" contain enough zest and appeal to sound good on the radio, but like Tori Amos, another brilliant songwriter and pianist who focuses more on the art rather than the chart, Morgan's story-songs spotlight endearing characters struggling to balance humanity with spirituality. The silky-smooth "Jamie" reveals a woman unable to recognize happiness as she walks through people and relationships; the poignant "The Promise" introduces a woman full of grief over a failed marriage; "Gravity" pulls us down to the painful realities of life as we look upward. But within each struggle, Morgan shows us a higher power who is willing and able to help us transcend the hurdles. This is an honest and uplifting release and one that, with time, grows with the listener. --Michael Lyttle ... Read more Reviews (7)
What stands out after hearing the CD is just how beautifully each song flows into the next. Clearly, a conscious effort was made to craft a cohesive album, for every song is a natural, perfect progression to the next. So instead of a CD full of 12 singles, LISTEN is more like a 12 part oratorio. Many times you don't even realize the track has changed, the transition is so pure. While Cindy has always been noted for her songwriting, the departure of long-time collaborator Mark Hammond has seemed to provide the push that has taken her writing to the next level. Never have her lyrics been more engaging. Un-content to spout rhetoric or pat answers, Cindy instead deals honestly with problems and life in a manner that is both revealing and poetic. And it is in large part because of her writing that LISTEN stands out as Cindy's finest work, and one of the best Christian albums of the 90's. She'd have to dig far and deep to someday top this record. Five+ stars.
