Sparkling Symphony Gym Average Customer Review: Toy list price: $24.99 -- our price: $19.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The Sparkling Symphony Gym surrounds kids--from cooing, curious babies to budding toddler maestros--with a stimulating, interactive environment that features the soothing classical music ofMozart, Beethoven, and others (five selections in all). For newborns, the gym can provide continuouslights, sound, and music, as your baby looks up at a twinkling display overhead. But as your baby grows, you can set the Symphony Gym to play whenever the colorful star, sun, and moon are touched by reachinghands, encouraging interactive play and stimulating visual skills. For toddlers, the top of the gym flips overto become a fun-to-play first piano, with sparkling keys that can be set to play either single notes ormelodies. --Paul Hughes ... Read more Reviews (280)
A Toy That Has Truly Grown with Our Baby Many toys promise they will grow with your child. The sparkling symphony gym really has done that for us. When our son was an infant, he would lie underneath while the 10 minutes of music and lights played. Then, he started pulling the swinging toys to make the music play. When he learned to stand, we flipped the keyboard to make an upright piano and leaned it against furniture - and he practiced standing while "leaning/banging" on the piano keyboard. Now that he is starting to walk, he still pulls himself up in front of the keyboard and plays the piano all the time. This has been absolutely his favorite toy for a year and a half (with a short break while he was working on walking). As a bonus, the music is pleasant enough to hear over and over again (for the adults). I highly recommend this toy.

Happy Crane Construction Average Customer Review: Toy US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Here's a construction site that's all smiles, from the dumptruck to the gas pump all the way up to grinning Mr. Crane, who sitsatop the 12-inch-tall rig. And toddlers will be smiling, too, once theyfigure out how to maneuver the rugged site's many swinging, spinning, and spiraling surprises. With the push of a lever, two tough 2-inch-wideplastic boulders roll through one of three chutes out to a crane bucketthat drops into a gravel pit. Then the boulders travel down two chutesand under a flip-up hazard sign and out to the waiting dump truck. Thetruck and gas pump both make happy noises: an electronic beep-beep whenthe truck's nose is pressed and a quick metallic ding when the pump ispushed. --Paul Hughes ... Read more Reviews (32)

Little Smart Sort 'n Go Car Average Customer Review: Toy US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The Sort 'n Go Car is three toys in one--a shape sorter, a music maker, and apull toy. This cartoonish car, vaguely reminiscent of a Volkswagen Beetle, is 9 incheslong, 6 inches high, and 5 inches wide. It sports windows in various shapes to accept theappropriate pieces. Turn it on in "voice mode" and you get engine noises and flashingheadlights; turn it on in song mode and you get a tune. In voice mode, as you pull the toyyou'll hear car noises, and as you push the pieces through the windows you'll hear thename of the piece. In song mode, a variety of tunes play as you roll the car or push piecesthrough. Open the trunk door and the shapes slide out. For parents, there is a loud/softvolume control. --Richard Farr ... Nesting Action Vehicles Average Customer Review: Toy list price: $12.99 -- our price: $11.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review This colorful car collection develops motor skills and hand-eye coordination while your child makes important discoveries about sorting and strategy. There are four vehicles, numbered 1 through 4, of graduatedsizes: a rattling green sports car, a blue police car with a revolving roof light, a yellow school bus with an opening sunroof, and a red fire truck with an adjustable clicking ladder. The vehicles can be rolledacross the floor, and then stacked--ever so carefully--atop each other, and finally all nested inside the fire truck. Vehicles only nest or stack completely when arranged in proper order of size and number. Made of sturdy plastic, these toys can be dipped in warm sudsy water for easy cleaning. --Kathryn Gustafson ... Read more Reviews (124)
I think that they lose some appeal for him, as they're not as realistic looking as other toy cars. My son gets a lot of enjoyment out of pointing out real cars and trucks, and other toy cars he has that are more realistic looking get more of his attention. I think what he most enjoys about the cars themselves are that each one has a different little feature that makes noise or does some action, or both. For example, the fire engine has a ladder on top of it that ratchets up and down, making a clicking noise in the process, and this is one of my sons favorite things about this toy. Your child's mileage may vary, of course, but overall these little cars are well designed, educational, and enjoyable toys.

VeggieTunes: Songs From The Hit Video Series VeggieTales Average Customer Review: Audio CD (25 August, 1998) list price: $10.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The animated veggies' first collection of song is a must for anyone who has fallen in love with their videos. The only complaint is the length--or lack thereof (the disc clocks in at a scant 25 minutes). The 16 songs are from the first 3 VeggieTales videos: Where's God When I'm S-Scared?, Are You My Neighbor?, and God Wants Me to Forgive Them!?! The musical selections are not as solid as the second volume of tunes, but these songs put VeggieTales on the map: "God Is Bigger (Than the Boogie Man)," "Love Your Neighbor," and "The Hairbrush Song," among them. Cocreators Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki have a wonderful sense of musical diversity and certainly have more fun with their Christian-lite message than most. Take the lyrics from the counter-melody number "Oh No! What We Gonna Do," which finds the wise men plotting against Daniel: "We could throw him in the Tigris, let him float awhile / Then we'll all sit back and watch him meet a hungry crocodile." --Doug Thomas ... VeggieTunes 2 Average Customer Review: Audio CD (05 October, 1999) list price: $10.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The most consistently entertaining element of the computer-animated VeggieTales videos are the wide variety of songs. Picking up where the first volume of VeggieTunes ended, volume 2 gives us the songs from four VeggieTales videos: Rack, Shack & Benny, Dave and the Giant Pickle, Josh and the Big Wall, and Larry-Boy & the Fib from Outer Space. This grand collection (20 selections) shows the breadth of arranger Kurt Heinecke and the show's creators and songwriters, Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki. The wacky segment "Silly Songs with Larry" is amply represented here, including the two funniest: "Love My Lips" and "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything." There are lovely ballads ("Think of Me"), Argentinean folk ("Dance of the Cucumber"), and a funk-rock song about Larry-boy. So much fun, you might forget that the Christian-lite series is good for you. The liner notes have all the lyrics, although you may need glasses to read the small print. --Doug Thomas ... These songs are very hip...we can all identify with Bob the Tomato as he translates Dance of the Cucumber. That song alone is worth the price of the entire CD! Love My Lips is another side-stitcher. I would highly recommend that you purchase the video (same name). The animation (a tremendous job!) is priceless and just adds another comical dimension to the recordings. As funny as these songs are, the entire Veggie Tales collection expresses powerful morality issues in a most enteratining setting. Your kids will love it, and although you may not want to admit it, you will too! 5 Stars. It just doesn't get better than this. Be sure to check out the rest of the series as well.

The Singable Songs Collection Average Customer Review: Audio CD (15 October, 1996) list price: $25.98 -- our price: $23.49 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review In 1976 a young Toronto musician released a fun and lively record called Singable Songs for the Very Young. The artist was a fellow called Raffi, and in the liner notes he wrote at the time that "there are very few good children's records." True as that was in the '70s, Singable Songs became the No. 1 bestseller in its field and set the standard for today's greater volume of high-quality material. The Singable Songs Collection reissues the classic Singable Songs for the Very Young and its superlative successors, More Singable Songs and Corner Grocery Store, as a set. Raffi's exhilarating acoustic musicality and sense of humor shine brightly through. Single-digit-age kids and their parents will get a kick out of these silly, educational, and joyful songs, which range in subject matter and tone from shared peanut-butter sandwiches and instrumental ragtime to standards like "Goodnight, Irene." --Paige La Grone ... Read more Reviews (19)
With this collection, you get three of the five "must have" Raffi CD's. This collection, in my opinion, is the finest children's music ever recorded. Start listening early (age one). The first Raffi disc, Singable Songs for the Very Young, revolutionized the way artists approached children's music. It stands as a benchmark to compare all other children's recordings against, and other children's music grades very poorly compared to Raffi. Raffi is the Mr. Rogers of children's music, but funny. Also buy his concert video (pure magic!) or his concert CD, which older kids love too. Our family loves Raffi, and so will you!

Butterfly Kisses & Bedtime Prayers Average Customer Review: Audio CD (27 January, 1998) list price: $16.98 -- our price: $16.98 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review There is nothing subtle about Butterfly Kisses & Bedtime Prayers. Those given to sentimentality and open weeping at Hallmark commercials and episodes of Seventh Heaven are in for a treat from Bob Carlisle, along with several guest artists. The title cut, a ballad about Daddy's little girl on her wedding day, is sure to put a knot in your throat and a tear in your eye. The remainder of the album--a blend of modern and traditional lullabies--celebrates the joy and wonder of parenthood through pop-styled versions of "Mozart's Lullaby," "Jesus Loves Me," and "Edelweiss," along with a few Carlisle originals. Vocally, he often sounds moved nearly to tears himself, and while his mellow tones are deeper and more multifaceted, his pull-on-the-heartstrings approach is akin to that of consummate oversinger Michael Bolton. In other words, this is not a recording for everyone. But for those who believe more is more, this is perfect musical accompaniment to the overwhelming pride, love, and gratitude for one's child. --Paige La Grone ... Read more Reviews (21)
