Editorial Review

In the market for a single album consolidating most of the selling points of mainstream female teen- and dance-pop of the past few years? Try Mandy Moore's So Real. Various cuts here demonstrate her (and her writing and production teams') mastery of the styles of Britney Spears, the Spice Girls, Janet Jackson, and early Madonna. While projecting a playful sultriness much like that of Spears, the younger Moore takes pains to keep things chaste: not only does she promote "trust" on "What You Want," she rhymes it with "crush," not "lust." Complete with a hook that defies interpretation ("I'm missin' you like candy") on the breakthrough single "Candy," and a can't-miss Janet-style ballad in "Walk Me Home," So Real adds a welcome note of CD-length consistency to the current girl-pop formula. --Rickey Wright ... 5-0 out of 5 stars So Real
Don't you love it when some simpleton thinks he or she's got an argument that's really going to make you change your mind about animals? Don't get defensive or huffy-just put 'em in their place with these zingers.
"Humans can't survive without eating meat."

"Actually, it's the other way around! Vegetarians have stronger immune systems than meat-eaters, and meat-eaters are almost twice as likely to die of heart disease, 60 percent more likely to die of cancer, and 30 percent more likely to die of other diseases. Not only that, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the American Dietetic Association both endorse vegetarianism."

"Humans have always eaten meat."

"Humans also used to live in caves and speak in grunts. Supposedly, we've evolved since then."

"Eeeewww ... tofu!"

"Eeeewww ... a corpse for dinner!"

"Animals eat other animals, so why shouldn't humans?"

"Most animals who kill for food couldn't survive if they didn't. We can get along very nicely without killing animals. But hey, if we're going to take our cues from animals, why not start sniffing new acquaintances and licking in between our toes?"

"Animals aren't as smart as humans."

"If being smart were a requirement for not being eaten, some people would be in a lot of trouble!"

"Mmmmmmm ... hamburgers!"

"Mmmmmm ... ground-up eyeballs, intestines, and tongues!"

"Get a life!"

"Save a life! The average vegetarian saves six cows, 22 pigs, 30 sheep, 800 chickens, 50 turkeys, 15 ducks, seven rabbits, and half a ton of fish over a lifetime. (Not to mention saving your own life from heart disease, cancer, and strokes!)"

"Where do you get your protein?"

"In this country, our problem is too much protein, not too little. Most Americans get about seven times as much protein as they need. Almost every food contains protein-whole wheat bread, oatmeal, beans, corn, peas, mushrooms, and broccoli are all good sources. Unless all you eat is junk food, it's almost impossible to eat a normal amount of calories without getting enough protein. By contrast, too much animal protein can cause osteoporosis, kidney failure, and other diseases."

Go Veg, Harry Potter!

The young wizard hero of J.K. Rowling's best-selling Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban would never harm an animal. Harry is a kind-hearted guy who is always thoughtful of Hedwig, his owl messenger and companion at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. But that doesn't stop him from chowing down on the hunks of animal flesh served up in the school's dining hall. We think Harry Potter would have a better chance of defeating the dark powers if he dumped the corpses from his diet!

Join us in asking Ms. Rowling to let Harry stop eating dead animals in the remaining four books of the series. Write to:

Fighting animal cruelty can prevent school violence-and you can help

Springfield, Ore.; Jonesboro, Ark.; West Paducah, Ky.; Pearl, Miss.; and Columbine, Colo. What do all these school shootings have in common?

The shooters were cruel to animals first!

While these tragedies have recently grabbed headlines, this trend is nothing new. Experts know that a kid's attitude toward animals can predict future behavior. According to the FBI and police, people who hurt animals may also hurt humans. In fact, cruelty to animals is considered one of three symptoms that predict the development of a psychopath (a dangerously insane person).

Experts agree that young people hurt and kill because they have never learned empathy, the ability to understand what someone else feels or to "put themselves in someone else's shoes." When these kids hurt someone, they are unable to imagine the pain and suffering that they are causing. Learning kindness and respect for animals is an important step in learning empathy.

Teach Kindness by Example
* Listen to yourself. Don't yell "shut up," "stupid dog," or other mean things to animals or people.

* Never hit animals. That only demonstrates "might makes right," which it doesn't.

* Show that animals are important. Be patient with them, make sure they wear an ID tag, spay or neuter them, take them to the vet regularly, and give them fresh water and food.

* Make animals a part of your life. Let your dog or cat live indoors with you, and spend time with them daily, brushing, walking, and playing with them. Volunteer at your local animal shelter, walking the dogs or playing with the cats. Organize "pet" food and blanket drives at school to benefit the shelter.

* Watch out for wildlife. Plant trees and bushes for birds, bees, and butterflies. Pick up trash, especially plastic rings, bags, cans, bottles, and other things that can hurt animals.

Kids Count!
Kids in Port Jervis, N.Y., one of the few school districts to include humane education in its curriculum, wrote more than 500 postcards to their legislators, urging them to pass the "Buster Bill," making cruelty to animals a felony in New York state. They succeeded-the bill became a law!

* Always speak up for animals, even if your friends make fun of you. Once you make your feelings known, you'll be surprised how many people agree that being cruel isn't cool!
* If you see someone hurting an animal, intervene or ask an adult to.

* If you hear kids bragging about being cruel to animals, report it to authorities. Being a "tattle-tale" is better than being a murderer!

* Order PETA's "Stop the Violence" action pack. It includes brochures, posters, and tips on encouraging kindness at your school.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mandy Moore's Debut Album!! 1999-2000
I remember this album when I was 12 going on to 13. I fell in love with this album instantly.I kept playing it over and over.
Mandy Moore was 15 years old when she made this album. Her debut album is overproduced. I had always dreamt of owning this album and every time I look at this cover, it makes me want to buy this album. This album is not a Britney Spears replica.
This album reflects the diversity of her taste from the plaintive ballad "Quit Breaking My Heart" to the alluring "What You Want" to "So Real"which she describes having a rock edge. This album has been certified Platinum. Remember, this was 1999-2000.

3-0 out of 5 stars what a cute debut album!
It's hard for singers to make a good debut album...but I think Mandy Moore's producers did a good job of picking songs for her. She's a wonderful singer and her talent is totaly underated. and nderappreciated. ... Read more

This "special edition" album follow-up to Mandy Moore's debut So Real is heavy on sighing ballads, both new and from the earlier disc. I Wanna Bewith You exists mainly to ride the success of its title single, which opens and closes the album in original and dance versions. Two inferiorWade Robson remixes (of "Candy" and "So Real") pad the CD, as do most of thepreviously unreleased tracks; the best cut here is So Real's sweet "Walk MeHome." Moore fans will be happy to own this, but her first album remains thebetter of her releases. --Rickey Wright ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good...
I wasn't really feeling the first 5 tracks, but as I soon as I got to the rest I started to get into it more. Maybe if I bought this album 5 years ago, it would have been different. Gosh, it's been a long time. Now when I look as those pictures with Many with blonde hair, she looks younger. Time flies so fast. Overall, I like the songs "I like It", "Candy", "Walk Me Home", "Lock your Heart", and "So Real".

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing C.D.!
Tennis greats Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova and other star athletes have long touted tofu and praised peas. They know that a vegetarian diet can provide all the nutrients you need to be an MVP.

Check out the new crop of athletes who fuel their strong bodies with veggies.

Sensational Snowboarder Tim J. Gargiulo
It's cold on the slopes, but snowboarding star Tim Gargiulo is always warm-hearted toward animals. As a kid, Tim saw photos of animals trapped for their fur-and he's been an animal defender ever since. He gave meat and dairy the boot years ago. With a bazillion animal-free options, this top snowboarder is never bored with his vegan diet.

BMX VIP Corey Coffey
Nineteen-year-old freestyling fave Corey Coffey switched gears seven years ago by going veggie. She knows her meatless ways give her an awesome advantage-she's rarely ever sick, which she credits to her healthy diet. Corey urges everyone to go veg: "It really makes a positive difference on your body."

Slammin' Street Skaters Jamie Thomas and Ed Templeton
These two dynamos jumped at the chance to pose for a vegetarian ad by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). These top street skaters know a smooth switchup to a vegetarian diet can help wannabe champs get to the top of the ramp.

BMX Biker Taj Mihelich
Taj is a vegetarian trailblazer-he rode away with first place at the World Championship. His healthy, meatless diet gives him all the energy and muscle-building protein he needs to pedal his way to the top. "It just doesn't make sense for something to be killed for my lunch when I'm perfectly healthy without it," says Taj.

Karate Champ Caitlin Beadle
This karate kid has won multiple events in dozens of tournaments-she's also an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) karate champion and Junior Olympic gold medalist who plans to try out for the Olympics. Caitlin's been a vegetarian almost all of her life-she and her parents kicked meat for good when she was 2 years old. She knows that her veggie diet keeps her strong and healthy. "It also helps my spirit knowing that I don't contribute to the suffering of animals in my diet," says Caitlin.

4-0 out of 5 stars If At First You Don't Succeed... Make A Second Version
Mandy Moore made her debut at the age of fifteen, in the same year that other pop singers like Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears made their debuts. Like Jessica, Mandy's debut was more innocent in nature then the other so-called "pop princesses" though the album, "So Real" did not get much attention. Because of this, Mandy released a "special edition" album, entitled "I Wanna Be With You" the year after. This album contained some new songs, some from her first album and a couple of remixes. Normally, a move like this would not work very well but the album is still great, especially if (like me) you have not heard the original debut. Mandy's vocals are more high-pitched and not as strong as other singers but they suit her style impeccably, for the most part anyway.

The album begins with a new song, the title track, "I Wanna Be With You". This is a sweet, breathy ballad that fits well with Mandy's voice. The song really doesn't have anything new to say but it is sung so sweetly that it really does not matter. The vocals during the bridge are not quite as strong as I would have liked but they sound nice nevertheless. Next up is another new song, "Everything My Heart Desires", an upbeat track that comes a little too close to overshadowing Mandy's vocals in the chorus. Lyrically it could use some work. Most would think that Mandy does not have a strong enough voice for this style of song but she actually manages to get through and does a great job. The last four lines appeal to me for some reason though I'm not sure why. ("The best thing underneath the stars, you're everything my heart desires. Don't change, stay the way you are, you're everything my heart desires").

"Want You Back" follows and begins beautifully, once again showcasing Mandy's breathy vocals. The vocals in the chorus sound a little off to me but that does not take away too much from the quality of the song. The part towards the end of the song, where Mandy sings the chorus but not quite as breathily (you'll understand when you hear the song) sounds particularly great. Up next is "The Way To My Heart" which is enjoyable but more forgettable then most of the rest of the material on this album. Mandy's vocals are actually a little stronger in this song, probably because it was not taken from her debut. The song is nice enough and pleasant to listen to but does not stand out. After that comes the first of three remixes. This time it is the remix of "So Real", a song I have never particularly been a fan of. However, the background music in this song makes it sound great. Mandy sounds particularly young in this song and the lyrics aren't great but it is still a quality remix.

Next comes two of my personal favourites, "Lock Me In Your Heart" and "Walk Me Home", both of which were on Mandy's first album. I actually found "Lock Me In Your Heart" quite irritating and cheesy at first but it quickly won me over. The way Mandy sang this song was extremely sweet and beautiful. The song borders on being too repetitive but never quite gets there. Instead, Mandy's breathy vocals are once again showcased wonderfully and the lyrics are not nearly as bad as I initially thought. I first heard "Walk Me Home" on an episode of Lizzie McGuire, without knowing that it was Mandy Moore. I loved the song but had no idea what it was called or who it was by. So, I of course was surprised when I bought this album and found it on here. This song is probably one of the best in terms of lyrical quality as well as showcasing Mandy's innocent vocals.

Up next is the mildly annoying "I Like It". This song is quite weak vocally and does not suit Mandy at all. This song probably wouldn't have been so bad if the vocals had fit better with the beat. The lyrics are also quite repetitive, mostly in the chorus, and the song is at least a minute too long. The original version of "So Real" follows and while this version is pretty good, I actually prefer the remix that appeared earlier in the album. I do still like the way Mandy sings the line "I just can't let you go" during the chorus. After that comes a remix of Mandy's single, "Candy". I also disliked this song at first but it grew on me. Mandy sounds quite off in several places (when she sings "me", it sounds like "may") but the chorus sounds great and is what got me to like this song in the first place. A touching ballad, "Your Face" comes next and though Mandy's voice is not strong enough for this kind of song, she still manages to make it great. The lyrics are especially beautiful. Lastly there is a remix of the title track. This is a nice addition but probably could have been left off in favour of something more original.

Overall Mark: 4/5

Despite the lack of recognition Mandy got from her original debut, she manages to bounce back with this entertaining version. What Mandy lacks in vocal strength, she makes up for solely by choosing the right material to show off her voice. The major issue I have with this album is that there are only ten real songs, as two of them show up in duplicates ("So Real" and the title track). While the remixes aren't bad, it probably would have been better to include only one version of each of these as well a couple more new songs. Nevertheless, with this album, Mandy proves that she can provide a great album and can stand on her own against other pop singers. Mandy's second attempt at a debut proves to be consistent as well as great.

These days there are more pop tarts on the charts than on thegrocery shelves, and it's awfully hard to tell the kewpie pies apart.Granted Mandy Moore isn't exactly heading into Björk territory, but at least the 16-year-old is attempting to stake her own space. Jon Secada andEmilio Estefan Jr. supply Moore with percussive cuts like the single"In My Pocket" which is laced with a sinewy Middle Eastern sound. Moorealso offers up jangly, breathy cuts like the heartfelt "17" which suither cotton-candy vocals nicely. This isn't great art, but it isenjoyable, disposable pop, and that ain'tshabby. --Amy Linden ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mature Mandy
I remember this album when I was 14. I loved the album and played it constantly. The album is basically pop music. Some of the tracks are a little more rock-oriented,with live instruments. This album is about teenage girls to find out what is life's all about. This album has been certified Gold. Remember, this was 2001-2002. While Mandy has matured, she gained confidence in writing the songs on the album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD
My sis gave me this CD for my birthday a few years ago and I probably would have never gotten it if she never got it for me. I must say I love this CD! Here's a little review of each of the songs:

1)In My Pocket: This is a fun song with a funky beat. The music is very Asian-oriented and it has a very fast beat. I like the echos she does when she says "in my pocket."

2) You Remind Me: This song has a nice pace and is a bit slower than the previous song. It tooks me a couple of listens to warm up to this song.

3) Saturate Me: This has kinda of an Arabian sounding beat to it. I really like this song. The chorus is very catchy.

4) One Sided Love: I love the start of this song, with the exotic music. It took me a while to warm up to it, but now it's one of my favorite songs on the CD.

5) Seventeen: This is a nice song, but not really my favorite.

6) Cry: This is my favorite ballad on the cd. It's a very sweet song. My favorite verse is "It was late in September and I've seen you before. You were always the cold one, but I was never that sure."

7) Crush: This is such a cute song that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I call this song my Ron and Hermione song lol.(Harry Potter fans will get that - I'm a R/H shipper)

8) It Only Took a Minute: I'm not a big fan of this song, but I do like the chorus.

9) Turn the Clock Around: This is my favorite song on the CD. It's got a really catchy beat and chorus and I find myself singing along to it when I'm listening to it.

10) Yo-Yo: Cool song.

11) From Loving You: Nice ballad, but a little too slow for me.

12) Split Chick - This is a really fun song.

13) When I Talk To You: Not one of my favorite songs. Mandy did write this and it's much better than that crappy song Britney Spears wrote, "Dear Diary."

5-0 out of 5 stars Different from her first.....it's more appealing and sexy!
I like this album more than her previous album. I really love the Middle Eastern influences in this album. I could really tell that some of the songs were produced by Emilio Estefan because the songs has either that middle eastern music into. My favs are In My Pocket, You Remind Me, 17, Saturate Me, Crush, It Only took A Minute, and From Loving You. This is definately my favorite Mandy Moore album. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars "So Real" Is Very Spunky
Yes.I was disappointed when I discovered that the single, "So Real", was only going to be released in Australia. It's a good Pop song & is the title-track of Mandy's first CD.The lyrics are cute (even though they are corny at the same time) & are catchy to mainly pre-teens & younger teens. However, it's easy to tell they're written by adults.Even though Mandy's voice is full of youth in this song, it showed her explosive talent.Beautiful tune & amazing harmonies & adlibs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Damn Good Single
At The Time I Purchased This Single I Did Not Have Her Debut Album "So Real" Yet, SO When I Saw That "Not Too Young" (By far Her Best Song) Was On This, Not To Mention The Video For "SO Real" I HAD To Get It. But That Dosen't Mean That You Should, Here's Why: "So Real" Is On Both Of Her Albums (Thats If You Live In The US), "Not Too Young" Is On Her Debut, Both Wade Robson Remixes Are On Her "I Wanna Be With You Special Edition" Album, And The Video Is On Her DVD.

1.So Real - Good Song

2.Candy (Wade Robson Remix) - As I Said In My Review For Her "IWBWY Special Edition" Album, This Is The Best Wade Robson Remix

3.Not Too Young - This Song Is Like In Another Realm, No Doubt Her Best Song

4.So Real (Wade Robson Remix) - Not As Good As Wade's "Candy" Remix

Ok So If You Have Both Of Mandy Albums Then Don't Get This If Only For The Fact That It's A Single For The Song "So Real", And That It Has The Video For "So Real"; That's Unless You Have Her DVD That Has The Video Too, Then Once Again Recommendation Is Shaky.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantabulous!
When I first heard So Real (which was requested by a Mandy Moore fan) on the radio, I immediately went to my pc and bought this very spunky record. It stands out among all Mandy Moore songs and the video is absolutely great! (Don't think I'm crazy, there is a video for the song!) So Real is most definitely keepin' it real for Mandy! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars "I Wanna Be With You" Is A Great Love Ballad
The song, "I Wanna Be With You", was the first single from Moore's gold-selling special edition disc, "I Wanna Be With You" & it's one of the best love tracks I have ever heard of.When I was fifteen years-old & this song came on the radio, I was so blown away because as a whole, it's so beautiful & geneous. The chiming echoes, breathy vocals, & heart-felted lyrics; etc.Such a pretty sound/voice.Very angelic. All of that coming from a sixteen year-old girl that received tons of crud about her being a "Britney clone/Britney wanna-be" (Britney Spears).I can, I suppose, see why.Mandy was the fourth young blond female Pop Artist (also thin & really cute on top of it) to break the mold in '99.She made music history with this ballad. Was a Billboard smash in its own right & it was what so many music-lovers were waiting for.

I realize Mandy is now embarrassed by several of her first songs (particularly her debut CD, "So Real").Even by her first hit single, "Candy".However, I really hope she isn't shameful over "I Wanna Be With You".It touched so many people in such a positive way. It's her best song to date (in my opinion). And that's very difficult for me to say because she has loads & loads of great tracks/singles.

4-0 out of 5 stars She's a hit!
To be honest,it was not too long ago that I heard this love ballad,"I wanna be with you",that drew me to the Cd.Actually I haven't bought it yet,and that's the first song I'd ever heard her sing, also,"So real",and a few others,on the net though,(sample songs),just for a few seconds,She has an amazing voice though.I'm sure to buy her CD soon,or single,if there is one. I'll probably start tomorrow, by purchasing her CD at the closest Music store.Anyway, stay good and think smart.Peace out!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mandy Moore, "In My Pocket" [Australian CD Single]
I believe that this was the first single from Mandy Moore's 2001 album, "Crush"."In My Pocket" was never released in the US - only as an import in Australia. The album version of this track is a bit weird at first, I must admit, but after time, one adapts well to it.The second track is a live on MTV version of Mandy's touching ballad, "I Wanna Be With You".The third track, Hex Hector's Main 7" (Radio Mix) of "In My Pocket" is a little too predictable, but with time, it becomes catchier and nicer to listen to. It reminds me of LeAnn Rimes', "Can't Fight The Moonlight".I'd give Hex 3.5/5 stars on this one.The final track is the absolutely phenomenal Thunderpuss Club Mix of "In My Pocket", clocking in at just under 10 minutes. What can I say about this mix?It blows my mind! They did an awesome job.I would give this single 4.5 stars (due to the somewhat blandness of Hex's mix), but since I must round to a whole number of stars, I will round up.If you enjoy Thunderpuss remixes, or are a die hard Hex Hector/Thunderpuss fan, then pick this up.Track listing is:

01. In My Pocket [Album Version] 3:38
02. I Wanna Be With You [Live on MTV] 3:05
03. In My Pocket [Hex Hector Main 7" (Radio) Mix] 3:24
04. In My Pocket [Thunderpuss Club Mix] 9:56

Good job Mandy, great job Thunderpuss!!!(Good thinking Epic Records)

Mandy Moore came out with three great American singles ("Candy", "I Wanna Be With You", & "Walk Me Home") from her first CD, "So Real" (1999), & its special edition disc, "I Wanna Be With You" (2000).I never imagined them being followed up by such a different-sounding album & single ("Mandy Moore" & "In My Pocket")."In My Pocket" is an awesome, edgy Middle-Eastern-like hit. However, this CD single does not contain "In My Pocket" (Live on MTV).It's actually the acoustic version of "I Wanna Be With You" instead.I don't mind at all because I honestly love the track! There are two fantastic dance remixes of "In My Pocket" & I really feel that Pop lovers would enjoy them. They're full of zest & spunk & Mandy's voice sounds awesomely sexy & carries great tune.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mandy Moore + THUNDERPUSS = HOT Club Mix
What can I say, I love pop music, and I really love the direction that Mandy went with this song. It has a middle eastern sound to it that really works here. However, take this song and give it to THUNDERPUSS to remix you get one hot club mix. I my opinion the In My Pocket THUNDERPUSS Club Mix is one of their best mixes to date, I absolutely love it!! If you love pop music, if you love club music, and if you love THUNDERPUSS, you need this cd!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great CD Single
"Crush" was the second single from Mandy Moore's official second album...the gold-certified, "Mandy Moore" (which, by the way, is a good CD).I was lucky enough to purchase this CD single from this company & I do enjoy it quite well. There are four snippets of songs from the sophomore disc; including Moore's zesty & spiritual "Saturate Me" & the acoustic sensation "When I Talk To You" (which is an incredibly emotional track & co-written by Mandy).I do feel that the original version of "Crush" is okay. But, the radio remix of it is MUCH better if you'd ask me.You can find that on the "NOW...That's What I Call Music! (Volume 8).

4-0 out of 5 stars I've Got A Crush On You!
Following the moderately successful first single "In My Pocket" comes along "Crush". This track is thank god, much more mature than Aaron Carter's "Crush On You" but not as appealing as Jennifer Paige's "Crush" of a few years back. This "Crush" talks about new found teenage love with Mandy singing about having a secret crush on a guy who she is relatively close friends with. This is the Australian edition of the single and it contains four tracks and the track listing is as follows:
1. Crush (Remix) 3.58
2. Crush (Album Version) 3.44
3. In My Pocket (Brandnew Remix) 3.29
4. Album Medley (Turn The Clock Around / Cry / Saturate Me / When I Talk To You) 2.57
The first track is a more enhanced and edgier version of the song therefore having the album version on the single seems rather pointless because there is so little difference between the two but oh well, at least you can tell what the difference is when you have the album version around to compare the remix with. The Brandnew Remix of "In My Pocket" contains beats that sounds surprisingly similar to Christina Milan's recent hit "AM To PM", you'll know what I mean when you hear it because it's so similar and instantly recognizable. Lastly, the last track would probably be the most intriguing as it's a specially mixed album medley containing four album tracks. By I was slightly disappointed in the sense that there was no overlaying between the songs and that they weren't mixed in together. The change is very noticeable as one song stops as the next one starts. Technically speaking, there are only three songs but the last track makes this single a worth while purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Single
HI, I'm Brazilian fan of Mandy Moore. This single is great, but i didn't realized the difference between the album version and remix. The Brandnew remix of "In My Pocket" is great, i really liked! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD Single
Expensive perhaps...although several Mandy Moore fans would love to buy this if they had the money to do so."I Wanna Be With You" remains this female sensation's greatest single to this very day and it is the title track from her sophomore album, "I Wanna Be With You" (Special Edition)."I Wanna Be With You" (Soul Solution Remix) and "Candy" (Wade Robson Remix) are also from her second album. The soulful dance tune of "I Wanna Be With You" (Soul Solution Remix) will lift your spirit for sure.Neatly slick and up-beat most certainly describes "Candy" (Wade Robson Remix).Awesome-sounding remixes of the two hit singles."Let Me Be The One" is the eighth track from Mandy's debut album, "So Real".She does sound younger, but her voice is a natural talent representing young teens in difficult relationships. These four tracks are terrific and are recommended for pop music lovers.

I WANNA BE WITH YOU (CD SINGLE IMPORT)

1."I Wanna Be With You"---I WANNA BE WITH YOU
2."I Wanna Be With You" (Soul Solution Remix)---I WANNA BE WITH YOU
3."Candy" (Wade Robson Remix)---I WANNA BE WITH YOU

5-0 out of 5 stars Great buy, and not just cuz the music is great!!!
First off, I'm a BIG Mandy Moore fan, weird cuz I am almost twice her age, haha. No, she's great because she is not contrived or plastic, unlike most teen pop.Mandy is SINCERE, with real honesty, emotion, and innocence, which really rings true. Not only that, Mandy has EVOLVED as a singer and artist. This is true based on her followup/true 2nd album "Mandy Moore", the "A Walk To Remember" soundtrack, her other soundtrack cuts, her acting in movies, and later in September, her "Coverage" album, a true blue, powerpop, covers album, where she shows jaw-droppingly superb taste in songs (Todd Rundgren, Elton John, XTC, Waterboys, Joan Armatrading, Cat Stevens, Carole King, etc), and features Semisonic's Dan Wilson, the Rembrandts, and produced by powerpop knob twirler John Fields, who has worked with Bleu and many other cool bands.I am dropdead excited about "Coverage", like you don't KNOW!!!The clips are amazing.

Now, about this great Japanese version of "I Wanna Be With You".Not only is the music great pop in the best sense of the word, she transcends teen pop, and these songs all hold up.Why??I would say they remain fresh cuz they weren't killed by overexposure.I would say these 17 tunes have a timelessness about them which does not date the songs to a particular period of time. They're not overproduced, feel like plastic or fake.Mandy sings with a genuine soulfulness not inherent in her age then.Plus, she sings a ballad like the title track with a sweetness, purity and honesty her peers could never GET.The producers here must have let Mandy stretch or something, cuz she sounds great. So great, even Lesley Gore woulda stood up and taken notice of Mandy's talent!!

Sure, Mandy has evolved, but this was a swell starting point. Not only that, it's probably worked to her benefit she didn't break huge, because she wouldn't have been able to evolve as a singer and artist. She is not stuck, married to a particular song or style, made to record "Candy" or "Cry" parts 1, 2, + 3. She's even dabbling in songwriting; I'd love to hear a whole album of Mandy originals!!Maybe after "Coverage".

Now, why is this Japanese CD the best choice of purchase of her earlier stuff??Because, it takes 99% of the studio cuts from the US CDs of "So Real" and "I Wanna Be With You: Special Edition", and puts them all in 1 place, a convenient 17-track disc.HOWEVER, it drops the remixes from IWBWY-SE, and also leaves off, who knows why, "Love Shot".Now, that song is on the CD single of IWBWY-Pt 1, so no need to duplicate albums with the US CD of "So Real", just buy that CD single. And, the remixes, and then some, are also on CD singles.Plus, that IWBWY-SE disc is sequenced badly, with an odd track order, mixes that feel out of place, and duplicate songs from "So Real".This disc is much improved, it corrects the flaws of the US releases, the track order is much better, the sound quality is of higher Japanese standards, AND it includes a lyric booklet for ALL songs!!The Japanese rule when it comes to CDs!! ... Editorial Review

In the '60s, the comedy The Princess Diaries might have starred Walt Disney favorite Hayley Mills, who often found her characters in similarly farfetched situations. Forty years on, it's a Disney flick, but with a few crucial updates. Among them is this soundtrack album, which collects non-threatening tracks aimed as much at prepubescent kids as teenagers. (When Melissa Lefton chirps, "I love life, life loves me / Everything in the world makes me happy," it's a moment as far from Cobain-style angst as any in post-"Smells Like Teen Spirit" pop.) Even the biggest names here (Backstreet Boys, Diaries costar Mandy Moore) clock in with music hardly as interesting as their genuinely sweet hits; almost everyone else supplies producer-driven filler that seems barely able to rouse even the sunniest child listener. The cheerleading of B*Witched's "Hold On" and Lil' J's cover of Salt 'n' Pepa's "Ain't Nuthin' but a She Thing" are nothing to complain about, but the disc seems designed to go in one ear and out the other. --Rickey Wright ... 3-0 out of 5 stars sorry, only ONE good song
I actually heard this whole CD when I borrowed it from my sister, and I was disappointed. It's great if you're really into pop and stuff, but I'mtotally not. To me, the songs were too teeny-boppish. The one good song was "WAKE UP" by Hanson, which was awesome. Their music has matured so much; everyone really needs to give them a listen. They have a new album out, check it out! ... Read more

Editorial Review

With Britney Spears exploring her burgeoning sexuality, at least on record and stage, Mandy Moore makes her most wholesome offering yet with A Walk to Remember. The soundtrack to this chaste love story offers several Moore tracks along with contributions by guitar-driven Christian-popsters Switchfoot. (She and Switchfoot singer Jonathan Foreman meet on a cover of New Radicals' "Someday We'll Know.") Forgoing the dance-pop that first put her in the charts, Moore sticks mostly to safe ballads that make romance sound as exciting as cleaning one's room. 4-0 out of 5 stars Need help find a song
I loved the soundtrack of A walk to Remember but my only problem is that the one song that I really love isn't on the soundtrack or on the enhanced version either. If any one knows the song tiltle of the song when Landon(West)and Jamie(Moore)are talking on the school bus after they had tutured the children at the junior high school, please comment back. Its a rock song that (West)is listening to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!
This soundtrack is so beautiful, and it pefectly depicts the movie. Switchfoot would not be so popular today without their contribution to this soundtrack. Mandy Moore really showed she is more than just an actress or teen pop star. "Only Hope" is so pretty and reveals the passionate side of the movie and Mandy Moore's character. This is totally appropriate for all ages and is incredible! So worth the money!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Soundtrack to Remember
I am a huge addict of movie soundtracks and nearly everytime I have been overwhelmed by the fantastic music. "A Walk to Remember" is certainly no exception, by combining soothing mellow rock with pop music to create an immensly enjoyable and powerful hour of music. The songs reflect off the deep themes of the movie and listening to this soundtrack really transports me back to the scene - as every good soundtrack should do.

1) "Dare You to Move" by Switchfoot.
This song is played at one of the critical changing points in the film (without giving too much away!) I have become a serious Switchfoot fan because of this soundtrack. Dare you to Move is a gorgeous and emotional song with nice lyrics.
8/10

2) "Cry" by Mandy Moore
This soundtrack features some of the best song Mandy Moore has ever sung. Though her lyrics are in typical poppy fashion and arent particularly original, it is nevertheless one of my favourites. "Cry" has the most beautiful uplifting melody and nice harmonies. It is the song played in the closing credits of the movie.
9/10

3)"Someday We'll Know" by Mandy Moore and Jonathon Foreman
A duet with Mandy Moore and Switchfoot's frontman automatically hints this is a good song! Its a sweet song, although not my absolute favourite, but I love listening to it to reflect back to the part in the movie when Jamie and Landon dance on her porch! *sigh*
8/10

4)"Dancing in the Moonlight" by Toploader
This song was a radio hit when it was released, so it was really nice to finally own a great song of the past. The song is played when Jamie and Landon are bonding. I love the intros and the great rhythm! It's just a really good song to let loose to!
8/10

5)"Learning to Breathe" by Switchfoot
The second of four songs on this soundtrack by Switchfoot. I love this song, mostly because of its instrumentals and chorus. It is played when Jamie and Landon show up to school together and I thought it just flowed so harmonically with the scene. I love this song!
9/10

6)"Only Hope" by Mandy Moore
Definately Mandy Moore's best song to date, let alone my second favourite off the entire album. This song is simply electrifying, with eerie piano and Mandy's voice is haunting. The song gave me shivers with its stunningly beautiful lyrics and I absolutely adore it! Mandy actaully sings it in the movie as Jamie at the school play
10/10

7)"It's Gonna Be Love" by Mandy Moore
This is the last of Mandy Moore's songs on the album. I like its melody and backing music and Mandy's vocals a good. Again, the lyrics arent very imaginative, but I still like it, and its in a good part in the movie and Landon gives Jamie a tattoo!
9/10

8)"You" by Switchfoot
This song is my all-time favourite off the album, and is now one of my favourite songs ever. Switchfoot nailed this song to perfection. Its instrumentals feature a harmonic cello and adds so much depth and emotion. The lyrics are stunning and the message behind this song is beautiful! Its an electrifying song! It's played during a huge turning point in the movie (again, I wont give anything away!)
10/10!! (without question!)

9) "If You Believe" by Rachael Lampa
I didnt really like this song. Mostly because I dont particularly care for Rachael's voice. Its my least favourite off the album. The song doesnt really play a big part in the movie either. Its only heard for literally 2 seconds when Jamie and Landon are driving in the car.
5/10

10)"No One" by Cold
It is the most heavy metal off the album. Its not a favourite of mine, due to its melody, doesnt really get me.
6/10

11)"So What Does it all Mean?" by West, Gould and Fitzgerald
I congratualte Shane West for his writing of this song. Its a cool song and Wests vocals arent half bad.
7/10

12)"Mother, We Just can't get enough" by New radicals
Gotta like this song! I really like it. Its fun and lively. Cool lyrics... "Theres something about YOOOOU!" hehe!
8/10

13) "only Hope" by Switchfoot
This is Switchfoot's rendition of the same song Mandy Moore sings, and again its one of the gems off the album! Its arranged differently, but still just as effectively and the vocals are stunning! Its played in one of the best parts of the movie, but if i said which bit... it would kinda ruin the ENTIRE movie! hehe
10/10

So in conclusion, "A Walk to Remember" Soundtrack is excellent! I never thought that pop music could be combined with rock and still make great listening but this soundtrack definately proved me wrong. Its an album i will look to for inspiration and comfort when I am not at my best. Beautiful! ... Read more

The Princess Diaries (Full Screen Edition)

Editorial Review

A thoroughly engaging fairy tale that's family friendly without being condescending, The Princess Diaries is your basic Cinderella makeover story given a fresh, affectionate twist courtesy of a game, energetic cast and a screenplay that skirts schmaltz in favor of gentle, effective comedy. Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) is a frizzy-haired, glasses-wearing 15-year-old girl whose two highest ambitions are to become invisible and to get a few smooches from the slickly attractive school heartthrob. As a girl who can't stand being the center of attention so much that she throws up during debate class, she's stunned and horrified when her coolly continental grandmother (Julie Andrews) shows up and informs her that she's the crown princess of the European principality Genovia. Soon enough, Mia has to undertake "princess lessons" (and a makeover) from her queenly grandmother, and eventually she blossoms into a confident, radiant girl--despite the worries and pressure that her newfound status brings. What makes The Princess Diaries work is director Garry Marshall's guileless, irony-free approach to the material (based on Meg Cabot's novel). In comparison to most snarky, ultra-hip teen comedies, The Princess Diaries is refreshingly and enjoyably square, content to win you over on charm alone and not a slick bag of tricks. Hathaway is a charismatic, appealing role model with a sharp sense of comic timing, and Andrews--who came to stardom as the object of a makeover supreme in My Fair Lady on Broadway--is at her regal best whether teaching Mia the proper royal wave or learning how to eat a corndog. Both leading ladies are complemented by a finely tuned cast, including Hector Elizondo as Genovia's head of security (and romantic counterpart to Andrews), Heather Matarazzo as Mia's best pal, and Robert Schwartzman as the good guy who ultimately wins Mia's heart. All in all, a royal pleasure. --Mark Englehart ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE ~*~PRINCESS DIARIES~*~!!!
I loved this movie from the very start. It has great acting, awesome plot, and is just plain funny!! Anne Hathaway sparkles as an awkward teenage girl just trying to fit in. I reccomend this movie for the entire family!! (unless you have a teenage/preteen son)It is incredible!!

3-0 out of 5 stars I love ugly duckling into swan movies
Why? Because I identify so much with them! Lets take Mia for example. Like me she has: bad hair, glasses, a bit geeky, and clumsy to boot. The only thing Anne Hathaway wasn't 'blessed' with during this movie was bad skin. Why not?!

I must admit I'm a sucker for a good Cinderella story, after all, what girl wouldn't want a hunk carrying her away from everything? (And doing stuff to her afterwards that Disney can't show?) This isn't that much of a Cinderella story, although it's loosely based around the idea. There is the fairy godmother, but there's no prince charming - the guys were not cute in this movie!

The only thing that stops this movie from becoming four stars, is the fact it's so slow!!! The first hour flies by, the second absolutely drags. It has a few funny moments, particularly when they're at the big fancy dinner, but that's about it.

I loved the fact that this movie was directed by Garry Marshall, the same guy who directed Pretty Woman. Even some of the same actors appear in this. Allan Kent who plays the waiter at state dinner says the words, "Happens all the time." He said the same words as the waiter in Pretty Woman. Patrick Richwood, who played elevator operator Dennis in Pretty Woman also appears as Mia's next door neighbour. Also, you may also spot Hector Elizonda, who was the hotel manager, Barney Thompson.

There's an underlying romance (since Mia wasn't getting any) going on between Hector & the fabulous Julie Andrews, which was hinted at during the movie, but never really brought forward. However, this relationship Queen Clarisse Renaldi and Joseph was not scripted. The dance scene and the underlying affection was added by the two actors. According to Hector Elizondo, "We felt that a romance after 50 was important to tell and it can be sensual and sexy while keeping your clothes on."

The scene where Mia trips and falls in the bleachers was real. Anne Hathaway had tripped while doing the scene, and director Garry Marshall thought it was funny, he inserted it in the final cut. Hector also played basketball several hours solo in the rain for the few seconds shown in the movie.

Two of my boyfriend's favourite women also appear in this, and they are Mandy Moore and Heather Matarazzo. Neither have really big parts, and Heather plays her usual role, of being a really little whine at times, and also a snob. Mandy played a blonde cheerleader, and once more, she sings a song during this. Why?! Why must she always sing in movies, to constantly remind she was a not-so-successful singer before this? Grrrrrr. She was a real cow in this movie, and thankfully, she got her come-uppance, cos I was about ready to strangle her!

The plot is predictable, and the extras are majorly fluffy, but what else do you expect from a Disney movie? Anne Hathaway held her own against the other bigger name stars, and really shone in this movie. And she did the ugly duckling/swan looks really well. It will be interesting to see how the sequel goes, as I don't really think they could have done much more with it than already done.

I don't think as some reviewers have mentioned this is a kiddie version of Pretty Woman. For starters, there's no handsome hunk to sweep the lead off her feet, in fact, the whole guy-lusting-after-girl-but-she-only-notices-the-popular-guy-at-school is really dumbed down, and hardly a major part of the movie. I think I prefer Pretty Woman though - Garry Marshall has never surpassed that movie.

This movie will never be considered a classic, and is pretty much forgettable a while after watching it. It's nothing special, although Anne Hathaway could do with a little nudge in the right direction, and she'll become a star.

4-0 out of 5 stars Anne Hathaway looks as beautiful as other Disney Princesses!

This movie was just as dreamlike and beautiful as Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty. When I saw Mia Thermopolis in the first scene, with curly hair and glasses, I knew they were trying to make her seem like an unattractive, unimpressive girl with no looks. But it really was hard to believe so! Even with those heavy glasses and thick hair she looked pretty! Julie Andrews as Queen Clarisse fitted the role like a key in a lock. Mia's relationship with her mother and her reactions to the biggest and most unexpected information about her own life were totally realistic. Her neighbour, the man who wrote plays all day, was so so funny!! I liked Hector Elizondo in the movie too. Another person whose role completely suited him. And the ending was almost touching. Mia makes her decision, whether or not to accept the throne of Genovia, based on her father's letter to her! Another thing that makes the movie an amazing fairy tale is Mia's wish of popping her leg up while kissing! It reminds me of those Disney cartoons where they talk of the 'kiss of true love' solving all problems forever!
Princess Diaries is for anyone in the family even remotely interested in dreamy fairy tales and queens and beautiful princesses!! Can't wait to watch part 2! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars what a gal!
I'm sure most people will agree with me, Mandy Moore isn't your typical pop star. First of all, she's too articulate, preternaturally articulate, in fact. Second, she seems grounded, unaffected by all the hullabaloo surrounding most celebrities. Most celebs invite attention to themselves and then later complain of lack of privacy. Mandy just moves around like she's just happy being where she is. And that shows in this video. If I had a daughter, I'd encourage her to make Mandy a role model.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!A Definate For Everyone!
Okay, so do you wanna know Mandy Moore?Well, this is the DVD.It shows the very down-to-earth Mandy when she was very young, to 2000.It is great. It features:

"I Wanna Be With You" video
"So Real" video
Mandy Clips when she was a younger child & performing, TRL, Hot
Zone, End Of Summer 2000 Countdown, House Of Blues, & more
Mandy interviews about her first 2 albums
A Trivia Game (If you win, you get to see a "Candy" tour
rehearsel performance)-Very fun game!
10 Photos
A small biography
& much more!!

This came out before her huge multi-platinum "Mandy Moore" & is basically all about her up until about January/February 2001.It is a great DVD for all, and its the T.R.U.T.H.!!!!!!!!!!

Love ya!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Positive Performer
Mandy Moore is a performer who makes people happy and feel better about themselves. This DVD reveals why.Without question she is bursting with musical, singing and acting talent. But underpinning these qualities is a rare human condition-a positive outlook.Mandy likes herself, her work, her future, her family, her co-workers, her friends, her audiences, and life in general.I doubt she speaks badly of anyone or anything. You can see this attitude in her live performances, interactions with co-workers and audiences, and music videos. They are uplifting. There is a long documentary, narrated by Mandy, that shows how she got into show business and how she made her music videos. Its fun to see such wisdom, focus, and spirit in a young person.I especially enjoy the section of the DVD where her first four music videos are shown in sequence so that you can see how she progressed from gyrating young teen to suave mid-teen crooner of love songs. These videos are very well made and clearly a cut above most. They are fantacy skits that make good combined use of her singing and acting talents.I like the fact that they never employ the common crutches of anger, ugly faces, profanity, nudity, or overt sexual innuendo.Mandy is a performer that kids to oldsters can enjoy. And all this before she even began to star in films. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars mandyrocks.com
This book feels like being backstage with Mandy. It has a review of the songs on her "So Real" album. There are a few mistakes in the book, oh well, everyone makes mistake. It has her favorites and her birthdate in it. If you are a Mandy Moore fan. This book is a must.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Mandy Moore book I've ever seen
This was the best Mandy Moore book I've ever seen! Not only were the photographs absolutely stupendous (I saw sides of Mandy that I never knew existed), but the text was amazing as well. After reading this book I feel like I've actually been backstage with Mandy (almost like we are best friends)! I can't wait to see what books Amanda Pennychurch andMora Lorrain come out with next!

3-0 out of 5 stars good book for its price
Good information on mandy! Most pictures were very nice, but there were some not so great pictures and there were also mispellings in the book. If you had more money to spend, I'd buy other books on her. ... Read more

Editorial Review

In the prologue to his latest novel, Nicholas Sparks makes the rather presumptuous pledge "first you will smile, and then you will cry," but sure enough, he delivers the goods. With his calculated ability to throw your heart around like a yo-yo (try out his earlier Message in the Bottle or The Notebook if you really want to stick it to yourself), Sparks pulls us back to the perfect innocence of a first love.

In 1958 Landon Carter is a shallow but well-meaning teenager who spends most of his time hanging out with his friends and trying hard to ignore the impending responsibilities of adulthood. Then Landon gets roped into acting the lead in the Christmas play opposite the most renowned goody two-shoes intown: Jamie Sullivan. Against his best intentions and the taunts of his buddies, Landon finds himself falling for Jamie and learning some central lessons in life.

Like John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany, Sparks maintains a delicate and rarely seen balance of humor and sentiment. While the plot may not be the most original, this boy-makes-good tearjerker will certainly reel in the fans. Look for a movie starring beautiful people or, better yet, snuggle under the covers with your tissues nearby and let your inner sap run wild. --Nancy R.E. O'Brien ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars an amazing book
i have read the book "a walk to remember a few times because it was so amazing for me. The story is very emotional. The relationship between Landon and Jamie is very sad because she is ill. I have also seen the movie but I like the book more because it is not exactly the same.
I understand the feeling of the young people better while reading than while watching.
Read it by yourself because it is one of the best books, which I have ever read.

5-0 out of 5 stars I cried myself to sleep!
A touching story of young love growing up.

I highly recommend this story to anyone who likes to cry. This story will make you weep like you were at your own mother's funeral. It will make you feel like you witnessed the death of a loved one all over again! Two thumbs up!

Compared to the Notebook, also by Nicholas Sparks, this creates tears at a much greater velocity. The Notebook only resembles the emotions of a great grandmother's funeral or maybe the funeral of a grandmother. The Notebook is nowhere near the level of a parent's last rites!
